The Mayflower Inn served Baby Arugla Salad with candied fresh figs, hazelnuts, thin slices of beef & cheese, Daube of Beef......fancy name for beef stew with wild mushrooms, vermouth, bacon, & onions over pureed potatoes, and chestnut baked Alaska.....It was delish, no cooking, no clean up, I thanked my cousin & nephew profusely for treating 16 family members....my niece & her DH couldn't come...Laurie had to work at the hospital.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Everything sounds so yummy!
Last night we had shrimp, corn salsa dip, pepperoni and cheese and spinach dip, then homemade hoagies, potato and macaroni salad. My mom's cottage cheese pie for dessert.
Today was dinner at my DIL's sisters'...lasagna and all the fixins...apple cake and chocolate moose cake with vanilla ice cream.

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

Roasted chicken with preserved lemons (from NY Times recipe). Ok, but not much lemon taste. Sweet potatoes and broccoli. I contributed a chocolate bundt cake.

Thomaston, CT

Can you buy preserved lemons, Don, or do you have to make your own? I'm making chicken for Sunday dinner, might want to try that recipe.....

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

Couldn't find them at Stop&Shop so she made her own using kosher salt, but due to the press of time, could not do it for a week, as recommended:

Thanks, Don..didn't realize lemons were so easy to preserve.....guess I'll have to try them when I have more time.....guess I'll just slice lemons thinly & put under the skin with rosemary & Kalamata olives....Jan, my grandkids would love you.....

Thomaston, CT

Mmm...love pulled pork.....and hummingbird cake sounds way delicious!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Someone brought a Cole slaw that was deeelightful! She is bringing me a copy of the recipe tomorrow. It had apples in it. Very tasty

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

cake came out good.. the bananas looked a lot drier than normal.. and stringy looking.. but the cake came out fine.. I just read you can freeze the bananas ..put some citrus on them .. mash em.. put them in ice cube trays and keep up to 6 months in a freezer bag.. will do that when the going gets good from now on

Thomaston, CT

Jan, please post the recipe....I'm always looking for new slaws....Allison, thanks for the tip, I didn't know you could do that....glad the cake was yummy.

Sounds good

Had hubby's family over finally, had the stuffed cabbage I had frozen on Christmas day and fresh keilbasi, potatoes and pickled beets

Thomaston, CT

Yum, Jen! Thanks, Jan, got it down, like the idea of horseradish in there....

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I am not a fan of horseradish and was surprised that it is one of the ingredients. It was not overpowering, but a hint of it. Tweak it to your liking.

Leftovers today.

Thomaston, CT

Leftover pizza today....am cooking tomorrow......

He's a good kid! How is Leah?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Leah has grown so much lately, really playing with some toys last night. She is better from her recent illness. It'll go fast now!

Thomaston, CT

You are so right, Debi.....they are not babies long! Went out to lunch, had a Cobb salad....

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

DW had a lot of leftover cilantro, and found an asian recipe for Shredded Chicken With Ginger and Cilantro from the Gourmet website(june2007) her eyes lit up. We didn't happen to have any chicken in the freezer, so she went with some leftover pork shoulder. Turned out pretty good, but she made too much for the two of us. After 3 days of a cold salad, I'm volunteering for a hot meal tonight.

Added later: Had roasted salmon with Quinoa Upma, Szechuan Veggies!
Mission accomplished.
