Coffee Break # 87 A Time for Thanks

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Rocky Ctr tree gets cut today. Comes from Morris County, NJ. 80 ft Norway spruce.

Glad your MIL is doing better Victor...hard habit to break for anyone especially someone older. I thought my sister was a lifer when it came to smoking until she was diagnosed with OV cancer, doc told her right out quit or die!
My MIL's heart is real bad, fat all around it, doc said she needs to lose weight, she's 77 never going to happen. I quit when my mom died 27 years ago...didn't want to put my kids through the grief I felt.

South Hamilton, MA

Never smoked & my brother quite about age 70+ So glad as he will be 86 at the end of the month. Weight loss when you are older if difficult, especially if you have arthrithis. I am speaking from experience. DH loses weight on my diet, not fair.

Thomaston, CT

Jen, my late DH is in the local cemetery here in town.....our son used to work there summers.....made sure we purchased a 'nice plot'! That coming from a 17 year old at the time was funny! Victor, not surprised about your MIL....it's an addiction....and when folks get older, their world pretty much shrinks, hence the 'selfishness'...I see it in my Mom....on a happier note I heard from Louise & she's doing well...not cleared yet to go to FL....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Nice that the Marines did a plaque, wasn't sure if they marked former military at a regular cemetery

When they picked the family plot where my grandparents and aunt and uncles are buried my grandmother told my grandfather she didn't want the one closest to the creek cause she didn't want to get her feet wet

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

But in my MIL's case, she went months without while in the hospital! At that point, it is no longer a physical addiction. All mental. She is weak in general. Also wastes money on gambling. I set up a supplementary retirement act for her years ago with Vanguard. Even with the downturns it was worth over 30K. It is now worth zero. Atlantic City.

Oh man

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I heard that the National Guard were going out with some crews.

Thomaston, CT

Wow...that's the height of stupidity.....sorry about your MIL, Victor.....we can't always help what we become.....maybe something in her past that feeds addiction...or weakness....she obviously didn't pass it on to her daughter, & that's the important thing!

what the heck is wrong with people? All those horror stories will come out and no one will want to come help

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Someone tweeted that even NYC outside of upper Manhattan is treated like 'flyover country' by the media. No coverage at all about the horrible neglect. Doesn't fit heir narrative about certain pols being heroes.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Elmo's accuser has reportedly recanted. That tells me they paid him a tidy sum.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Has anyone tried those five toe shoe things??

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

no way

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

My niece loves hers.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

they are weird looking

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes they are.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cannot believe people run on hard surfaces with them. I would hit a nail or glass.

I know a few people that have them, they love them

South Hamilton, MA

My foot Dr. wouldn't like them. My 'dress' shoes are black Rockports. Not stylish, but comfortable. Have not worn heel for yrs & never overly high ones. Hated it when the pointed toes were stylish--quite uncomfortable but you couldn't get any other style.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I do think the type of running they allow - like barefoot - is naturally better than landing on the heel.

Thomaston, CT

Don't take away my sneakers!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Don't make me run!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i saw a guy trying them on and he loved them for the gym and water sports - i do believe he voted yes for medicinal marijuana here as well.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Iris I think your foot doctor would actually like them

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

So are you saying that only stoners want to see their own toes when they run?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

:)

no just an observation - and the print design on his t-shirt

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Whoa, wait a minute on the shirt design.....I own several "hippie" t-shirts. ^_^
Bought my son Joshua a hat with a pot leaf on it that said "Hi, My Name is Pothead!". He doesn't wear it out of course but we laugh like heck...it's an family joke.
Then Justin, my special needs son has a shirt that says "Keep staring and I might do a trick."
This family has a sick sense of humor sometimes.

Thomaston, CT

It all helps! Our resident strange person was out walking along Main St. today....barefoot as usual...I think he only puts sandals on when it snows.....

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Heehee, pixie. I could just picture my great niece wearing a shirt like that. What a character she is! Her mom posted on FB yesterday that as she and Emma were playing poker, Emma layed down her cards and said "read 'em and weep". Emma is 11.

We saw workmen in Japan wearing shoes like that. Wondered to myself if they were steel-toed.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Daddy used to tell me that people stare because they are...
A) afraid of the unknown
B) don't dare ask
C) ignorant

So I had a shirt that said
"Are you staring at my child? If so then are you are A), B)or C) ??
If your A just ask,
If it's B, dont be afraid to ask I'd rather tell you than have you stare.
If C).....I'll pray for YOU!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL, that's great

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Love it

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Don't know if I ever told you about the shirt my brothers bought? I have 6 bros all older, the oldest one was almost 18 when I was born, the youngest 6, so they hid alot from me as I was the "baby" and a girl. Naturally I complained about it as any sister would so they bought me this shirt when I was 25 it was black and had a big mushroom on it. The caption said.....
"I feel like a mushroom because they always keep me in the dark and feed me bull s^*#!"
They thought that was hysterical!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Hahaha. Brothers. Mine are 8 and 10 yrs older. I was never included in what they did. Really can't say as I blame them. Once they hung me up on a hook from the suspenders of my winter overalls. don't know how long I was there. I always knew they had my back though.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Hee hee he!! They tied my braids to the bedpost while I was sleeping. I had whiplash for a month!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL

I was so much younger than my siblings, but I know I drove my sister crazy....she thought she was going to be the baby of the family when she was 12 along I came...hee hee
My mom used to send me on her dates!

Thomaston, CT

My brother is 11 years older than I am...he always treated me better then anyone else in the family....my sister, 8 years older, was a huge pain...still is, but she's stepping up to the plate to care for Mom, so she earned some good marks this week!
