Thanks everyone, Paul just called, have some errands to run for him..

Madison, AL

katiebear - it has been very interesting reading your adventures and experiences. Do you deal with so many seeds as a hobby (major gardening) or is it a business for you? If it is a hobby, you sound very dedicated!

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, I am very sorry for the families loss.

I will say, from the time you lost your dear Roger all through the years, you can hold your head high for all you have done for your DMIL. You have been a Saint in that aspect. I know you have always gone above and beyond for her as Rogers DM, even though she wasn't so kind & loving to you. So do not fret over that.
She lived a good long life....and as Barb said, she didn't suffer.

BIG hugs,

Debbie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

(((Betty))) - Barb Did say it best. I'm sure, when she meets up with Roger her anger will dissolve.
You are a blessed person to have all the love in your life, and I know with a certainty that you are deserving of it all.
Nora has passed on to be with the Lord. I hope the family rests easy in the knowledge that she is in no pain. Still, I am sorry for the family's loss.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Sorry to hear your MIL Nora has passed. Condolences to those that loved her and will miss her. I am sure Roger will set her straight now. Hugs to you for taking the High Road, Betty.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I can't help but think of all the caring and class that you showed her and all of that family. You are one special woman Betty.......

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Just got an email from my sister Alice. My Mom is not able to go into assisted living, as she's too frail.
If the main door (a heavy one, to be sure) is closing on her, she couldn't stop it and go through. She'd get hurt by it. The assisted living home also has long hallways, and Mom would get tired. They said she's a lovely person, but too frail and couldn't accept her.
Mom is upset of course. My brother says he can take care of her, but my 3 sisters disagree. They want her to have 5 days of Home Care (Tues & Fri she's picked up for a "day outing" from 8am to 3pm so doesn't need Home Care then). He doesn't want Home Care when he's there, but none of us care about his feelings........ He doesn't work on Sunday/Monday when they'd come, but he's able to go out with friends, etc on those days anyway. It would give him his life back. I think guilt about her care, and the fact that he's too "close" to her as they're in the same house, is his problem.
He tried to tell 2 of my sisters, Alice & Ruth, that it was none of their business. Ruth said "No..... it IS our business." and she was so adamant that he finally shut up.

The 4 of them (Stan & 3 sisters) are having a meeting at Stan & Mom's house on Sunday, and Alice asked for my input on the Home Care issue and I also want them to look into the banking.
Mom gets $1600/month in pension, etc, and apparently Stan is transferring it into a high interest account, and if Mom writes a cheque for $50 it's bounced. She wrote one for her SIL's birthday, and it bounced. It's possible Stan has the pension $$ going directly into the High Interest account, and that's why there's no $$ in her regular chequing account.
I wish I were in Winnipeg during this time especially. It's distressing to not be there when the rest of the family is, with Mom.

Glenview, IL

Betty,

I am sorry for the loss of MIL.
...I agree with Barb, Debbie and all the ladies.
I'm glad she went quickly.

Sending warm thoughts and prayers for You and the Family.
Yes, you did the very best you could and continue to do so, with offering accommodations.
You are such a loving thoughtful person, even when waters are rough...you continue to offer your support.
God Bless You too.

(((((Susan))))

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Thanks Judy
I'm just beside myself.......

Ladies in Ontario - are you familiar with Bullfrog Power? I just got an email from AirMiles suggesting I could get 400 Airmiles if I sign up with my electricity and gas with them. It's a green alternative for energy in Ontario & Alberta.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry you are going through such a difficult time Susan, wish you could be with your family when the meeting is held..how about skype?? even if they were to hear your voice on the phone to know what is being discussed..something is better than not having your input into conversation.

I would not change Susan, lots of cons..in fact Suzanne is trying to get out of a contract, costing her almost double I pay..their figures show great savings but NOT!!!

Thank you all, working the phones till 3..off to get hair cut at 4:00 and do groceries..Paul paid for 3 hotel room for anyone who needed them..between Roger's mom's place and the rooms they will be fine.
Imagine Jeff and the boys will stay here Sunday night so after I get hair cut I'd better buy groceries

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear the problems with your Mom Susan. It is so hard not being close when you need to be! Sending you more ((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I asked my sister about conferencing me in to be part of the meeting and she said not.
I don't know if my mom has speaker phone on her landline, but I don't pay for long distance so could phone. Maybe Alice wasn't thinking about this.
My mom doesn't have a computer or internet of any kind, so would not be able to Skype.

Adding my prayers for everyone. Betty, you need a break. It's a quick end to a painful relationship. Time to let go and let God.

And Susan, heartfelt prayers for you and your family. This situation was the final fracture for my family of origin. I wish you more success with your sibs than I had with mine.

I took my first walk off my property (except for going to see neighbor Dana) and walked to the beach to visit my friends Yolanda and Lily, sisters who have a restaurant there. It's about a quarter mile. I had a nice visit, walked a bit on the beach and came back home. I'm tired but not exhausted and not in pain. Yea.

Read that Steven Tyler split with his fiancee. Guess he heard I might be interested.

Tony brought the shelves home today. Tomorrow we will get them moved to their permanent home (we have tomove part of a fence to do this). We also plan to get the shredder going and shred seaweed and palm logs. I've invited Dana to come play King Kong with us as we tear the palm logs apart. Dana, by the way, has given me lots of compliments on my weight loss and has been very supportive of my need to recover and not beat myself up for not getting more done. She thinks the exercise bike in front of the computer is a great idea. I have been using it at least once a day. Hard to make excuses with the bike right here.

I'm feeling good about getting out and visiting with friends. And walking.

I collect seeds about the way I collect fabric. Most of us know how that is. With the new shelves I'll have a lot of room to start seeds where they are safe from the dogs and cats who tend to hang out wherever it's least convenient. It also tend to be either a few starts or dozens. We will be situated to hand extras off to passing neighbors with the shelves in the new garden which is by the road.

Amma will be in San Ramon late this month. I'm still not sure if I'll be going. It would be nice to make the trip see her, see the doctor and get a big box of candy to pass out on Christmas. We'll see.

For tonight, I'm happy about walking without pain.

hugs, katie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hi Mary - seems like ever-so-long since I've seen you I've missed you, and your caring self.
Thank you, and I will talk to my family about "being there" via phone, for the family meeting.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

lol well Katie - step into Steven Tyler's life quickly girl!!

My 3 sisters and I are good with having the same opinion on our Mom's Home Care. It's just my brother that's the "sticking point" so with 4 out of 5 on the same page, he's going to have to give in!
Once before there was an issue with Mom's care and that was 11 years ago when she broke her hip. My sister Alice wanted to treat her more like an invalid then and others in our family didn't agree. Then, when Mom had some strokes from a blood clot from the injury going to her brain, Mom had to take warfarin (a blood thinner). The family was split on my mom's wish to be able to drink. Alcohol is a diuretic, and thins the blood too. Two of my sisters (long time friends with kids same age) had a terrible argument and wouldn't speak to each other for years. That cleared up a couple of years ago, and now they're "good" again, but it was very difficult. They would be civil to each other during family gatherings, but would not be otherwise. They managed to hide it from Mom for years.
Now it's good to know they are on more than civil terms, just not as close as they used to be.
I don't think this will do the damage done before, because we women of the family are in sync with out decisions. I think that Mom is also. When she was told she couldn't live in Assisted Living, I think it must have scared her a little, and she just wanted to know where she was going to live. Now she knows she can stay home, with Home Care, I know she's relieved.

(HUGS) Susan ! Awe Thanks my sweet friend.... Yes just popping on and off lately... just slammed and missing my DG Friends tremendously....

Betty, I agree with everyone else...Barb said it perfect. big big hugs to you my dear.

and Susan, just call at the time of the meeting....and hugs to you too.....

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Thanks for the thoughts and words. Not sure what time they're meeting, but I'll find out. Hope it's not while I'm at church service..... they are 1 hour later than me (they're Central, and I'm Mountain time).

Bob isn't going on Sunday, because he's qualifying for the Provincial Bowling Tourney

Victoria Harbour, ON

morning all,

Still dark out there, can hear the wind, likely an inside day.

Once Greg got the boat winterized and shrink wrapped Melanie and the boys came over and spent the evening..then Suzanne called and asked if I could give her some of the photo"s I took over all our recent gatherings, got them ready for her to put into albums for funeral home tomorrow.

Was going to go through boxes of photo"s when I took them to Florida for several winters but not going to go through memory lane, just no can do!

Susan, hugs..am sure your siblings have nothing but the best of intentions with regards to your mom's needs. here is hoping Bob bowls the bet he has ever bowled come Sunday.

Katie, hurrah on your outing adventure yesterday..nice to get out and visit with friends. don't overwork today, you be the overseer and let Tony do most of the work

Debbie, you off to Hamburg this morning?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Norm and I are off to a big quilt show in Manchester NH today and we hope to meet up with Cher... I'll try to get a lot of pictures.....

Lyndonville, NY

Good morning,

No Betty, no craft show. Paul is working, as is Jeanna and she has a birthday party this afternoon for an "old" college roommate and will be at that. Carrie is kind of
fizzled out on craft shows. I have an appointment at 12:30 to take Isabelle over to get groomed, poor girl needs a bath and haircut! lol

Dark and drizzle here also, wind doesn't seem too bad so far but its not looking friendly out there.

Barb, travel safe and have a good time.

Coffee is ready.....

Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Thanks for coffee Debbie. Sounds like everyone is busy!
Katie, so glad to hear your doing better.

Happy Birthday Crissy! Hope you have a wonderful day!

I posted on her FB page for the birthday wishes....but most likely she won't see them til Monday. I don't know if she can access on DG by
her phone, she doesn't have a computer/internet at the apartment.

Happy Birthday Crissy....
Sending birthday wishes and hugs, for a wonderful day!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Happy Birthdday wishes Crissy. Make it a good one!!!!

mulege, Mexico

Happy birthday, crissy. Wish you the best every day.

I woke up at 4am and couldn't get back to sleep. Finally got up at 5:30 and was ready to work when Tony got here. We've been pulling apart dry palm trees, getting them ready to go through the shredder. We need to go to town and get gas for the shredder. Then we suit up with masks, goggles and glovees and make a dust storm.

The little plants from seeds planted when we had the storm are growing well. I've moved some of them so they are less crowded and will take some to Manuel and Araley when we go to town. We have hundreds (at least) small papaya trees. I hope to get them growing all over.

Dana visited friends across the river yesterday. They are on river level and all have flood damage. Many are talking about leaving for good. We've had about fifty years' worth of storms and floods in ten years. Dana and I congratulate each other for "buying high."

hugs, katie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like your going into the plant nursery business Katie. Glad to hear your on higher ground. What re you doing with the shredded tree's? Will it be mulch?

Crissy, the very best on this your special day..may it be filled with sunshine..

Lol Lindakay, soon Katie will not have land left to work but will have few trips for fresh fruit..you've certainly got yourself a work day planned..remember to take time for you

Debbie, sorry to hear you will miss Hamburg Craft show..know you enjoy it! Next year we'll meet and I'll take you, better still, there is one in Markham, actually next weekend, we should plan for you to come, know next weekend is too soon but perhaps next year.

In writing this I got a call from Suzanne asking if I knew who could do a luncheon at church basement after funeral services Monday as there is no ladies auxiliary, called a few people I know, no go sooo am off to Barrie to get supplies for eats for about 150 , put out the call to friends to see if they can help re making it etc so where I was to be in Jammie's all day off I go

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Happy Birthday, Crissy!! Even if you don't see this until Monday, know that we're "with you" today!!!

Betty - Suzanne really knows who to depend upon - Bless you :-)

Katie - sounds like you're going to have a Papaya farm!
I know that some shredded trees can't be used as mulch (too toxic, such as pine trees), but I suppose palm trees are ok?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Susan, pine trees make excellent mulch...I have used it almost exclusively for years with no problems. The ones you need to watch out for are mulches that contain walnut shells/bark/wood as they may contain Juglone...a growth deterrent and mulches labelled "Wood Mulch" as those may contain old pallets, landscape timbers, etc and could have arsenic or creosote in them.

Hope all goes well with getting your Mom settled and you are able to add your voice to the discussion.

Hope you have a lovely birthday, Crissy.

Good thoughts to you all.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Here I is, relaxing..

got a grocery list ready, planned on spending afternoon shopping in Barrie for food/supplies and just as I was going out the door Suzanne called..few of them spoke and didn't think it was a fair thing to ask..seeing as there are 10 children left, a something 80 grandchildren they felt they could put out an s.o.s. and everyone bring something so that suits me fine..kudo's to my girlfriends though who were willing to help me make everything..they have offered to set out the luncheon, lucky to have them

Now trying to decide if I've enough energy to go shopping for an outfit..could use one or two...really, should be out raking and here all I've done is sit and sew..

3 quilt tops ready to machine quilt

Lots Jean to consider when purchasing mulch..best I be more alert to what is in it rather than just buying.

Barb, sure hope you meet up with Cher and above all, have wonderful ideas to share.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

actually Jean - maybe I was thinking of pine needles, and cottonwood mulch. I was told that pine needles are very toxic to growth, and a neighbour that had a cottonwood limb break on their shed (metal) said when the City came to chop the tree down and mulch it - the City said this mulch was not good for growth either. I put it in my back yard where I wanted no grass (path) and not even quack grass grows there now. I did not use any other type of chemical, so it was all mulch.

Lyndonville, NY

I sent a message to Crissy via her phone/text. Told her there were lots of birthday wishes waiting her for her Monday.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Well, just got a call from Bob - his truck broke down yesterday, and today a neighbour who has a tow truck company picked him up, and together they towed Bob's truck to a service station.
The tow truck broke an axle, so I need to pick Bob up at the service station. The fellow's family will pick him up, but there's no room for Bob too..... (the whole family?!?!)
Anyway, it's not far, so I need to get dressed and go.......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Susan, hope the repairs on Bob's truck aren't high..you will have to share your vehicle if it is.

Barb, any good ideas at the show today?

Debbie, how does Isabelle look after her day of pampering.

Went shopping this afternoon, just love it when you walk in a store and see exactly what you want..bought 2 suits, 2 tops and jewelery to match both..was just on my way out and me Suzanne and Marguerite coming in to buy an outfit..within minutes they knew exactly what they wanted.

Had taken the 4 crosses with me, dropped them off to be engraved..said I could pick them up tomorrow if I wanted.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

The service co will look at his truck on Monday.
What are the crosses for?
