Guess you look at it, it could have been worse...eh that's all I got, LOL
NE Pets Forum #24
Aww poor pups!!
They do get used to having you home! I was gone about 6 hours today...Suey put her head on my knee & wouldn't let me get up!
:)
Got bloodwork back from the vet and all 3 of my cats have extremely low thyroid! I'm about to make an appointment and get MY thyroid checked. Sampson's liver numbers were up even though he had a second round of antibiotics. I will pick up another round tomorrow night.
best wishes Memory!!
I had a puppy once that chewed up all the bark from the bottom of a sapling apple tree in my backyard at the time. I thought it was down for, but it came back from the below where he chewed it. And he was still a little thing, too!
The worst was went that dog was grown up. I had moved to a new place and had him in the house with a new puppy (well, not really new, but fairly new). Anyhow, he was used to being able to be loose in a fenced back yard, and I no longer had one. My hubby and I came home from work and found not only the wall to wall carpet in front of the slider door all torn up, but the slider was off the track and sofa was moved away from the wall. Talk about a mess! Oh, man, I was so pissed!
Good luck, Memory. Praying for those kitties.
Karen
Thank you, Karen. Everyone seems healthy - that is part of the puzzle.
Weird that all the cats would have low thyroid
Stupid dog just got sprayed by a skunk again right by the corner of the house so the family room stinks to high heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Lord, it stinks in here!
Maybe that's what happened to the odorous, ampulating brown lump that keeps sticking to my leg. He has a digging project under our shed to rival anything I have done in the garden. We are planning to make a dog shower where the sump drain is in the basement, but we just can't seem to get to it. I think the smell is knocking us out of our senses.
long ago we had to give thyroid pills to my childhood cocker spaniel.. Never had the problem with cats.
Several of my dales had low thyroid....Robin's was so low, the vet wondered how he was functioning....he said any other breed would not have been....wondering what is causing all these thyroid problems!
I just made an appointment for myself to go to the people doctor and get my thyroid checked. A year ago the two without HyperThyroid were in the normal range for Thyroid. I am at a loss for what might be causing it as really nothing has changed at my house.
I have candles going everywhere(even in the garage), my house(and car) stinks!
Did you wash him in peroxide?
yes, can't tomato juice the car & house.
A box of baking soda absorbs smells, maybe use it in a solution to wash the car?
I sprayed him down with peroxide, and he actually sat there and took it, guess he knew I was trying to get rid of the smell
I'll try the baking soda as an air freshener too
Where do you take him to spray peroxide, Jen? That might be our next step too. We still have to deep clean the floors and his sleeping area too. DH and I woke up with headaches, so maybe the odor we're also dealing with is why. Course it could be the weather. It's too cold today to use anything outside on a dog.
Just outside, I put peroxide in a spray bottle and just spritzed him, Have to do it again today, he still smells a little
My lungs hurt the next morning from breathing in that stink all night....finally smell is gone from the house and garage today
FlowAJen I recommend that you get some one else like a close friend or relative to check to see if the smell is really gone. Smells are something me become less sensitive to the longer that we are around them.
Got word that the Veterinary Endocrinologist that did the RadioIodine treatment for Sampson is going to pay for all 3 of my cats to have thyroid tests for a study he is doing. Probably won't resolve anything - but they are little pioneer kitties now.
Edited to correct spelling errors.

Hope the kits are all OK....glad they're doing a study. After Robs died, I received an email from a group studying genetic diseases in airedales....I hope the study helps.....Jen & Rosemary, the skunk cleaning recipe I have said to mix a cup of peroxide with a 1/4 cup of baking soda, a gallon of water & some dog shampoo....
I have a super sensitive nose so don't think that will be problem, the dog was never in the house with the skunk smell, so was easier to get rid of the smell
YC tell your cats that they were brave volunteers.
I'm glad you are finally conquering the smell. I'm glad we have a limited number of skunks near us. I can see Bear deciding it was something he wanted to try playing with.
Thanks for the dog-cleaning suggestions. I am afraid peroxide will bleach Cliffie's lovely chocolate coat, and I am at work all day when there is the most sun for treating him outside. I learned that people around here take their dogs to swim in ocean water when they can because the salt water seems to neutralize the skunk smell. We're dealing with smells from probably rolling in something a skunk sprayed. Plus the sulphur smell from swamps and rotting leaves.
I was told another idea--those sprays to hide odors from deer that are used by hunters supposedly also reduce skunk odors. I would have to find a hunting store to stop by during work hours. There's a Camper's World in Foxboro that I sometimes pass in my daily travels
No, that cutie looks wonderful! Rosemary, will be meeting with my Foxboro friend in Sturbridge next week.....
I love Wall-e's color.
There was only 3 of the litter that color, he has the best eyebrows, my friend has his brother
Wall-e is a very handsome dog! He sure isn't blond.
We're concentrating today on putting boulders in front of Cliffie's excavations, because then for a while he just entertains himself with moving rocks, and then he doesn't smell as bad. Power's been going on and off all day, which scares Cliffie, so we're not traumatizing him with smells too at the moment.
Robin, I love going to Sturbridge too. We always stop at the Travelers restaurant when we are on the road, and Publik House is a bigger treat for a fancier meal.
Are we talking about Sturbridge Village or the Antiques Sale?
Is there a big antiques sale in Sturbridge or just called that? Sturbridge village is a very large historical park in Sturbridge, MA.
I love Sturbridge Village and I can get in for free because I am a teacher.
Haven't been to S. Village in years, but enjoyed it when I was there.....my friends & I usually meet in a small restaurant in town.....used to be the Black Swan, but the name's been changed......
If you give us a positive review for the restaurant, i can try it next time I'm driving to the mid-Atlantic along route 84.
I think teachers get good rates in motels too. I get a break by showing a government ID and they don't care if the travel is not for government work.
I find the admission to Sturbridge Village to be rather expensive, especially if its only for a short rest stop, so we seldom go. The way they show the designs of the water wheels that powered the mills is very detailed, and still interesting for a non-engineer.
Healthcare reform taxes to hit vet care too, raising prices. No end to this.
No, money seems to be going everywhere except into my pockets! Rosemary, the place that took over the Black Swan is good, ate there in Aug. May try a new place on Tues.
i am interested in your restaurant review.
