Drats, wrote a novel, responded to all, must have touched something on screen and zap all gone.

Went in and on about the decorations Liz, as for the fins, told Kenny to paint sea green and you would look like a mermaid in the pool..glad you are sticking at it..

LindaKay great idea about the gloves and micro..know when I use the wax pot and dip my hands it feels so nice, heat doesn't stay long but the mitts would

Listening o how the storm is moving up he cost, sure hope fiends can somehow check in

Debbie, roof fixed??

Katie, glad you got to visit with Dana and Sandy..Dana must have been in awe of all you accomplished this summer, even with being away for surgery..remember, get checked out!

Prayers for all in line of the storm

Madison, AL

Bettypauze - I keep seeing on these threads people say they lost long posts they were writing. So I just write a post in Word (or any other word processing program) and copy over to DG when finished. If you get interrupted, you can save the document or just let it go without saving after copying to DG. That way you would never lose "an essay" that you worked so hard to create. This is obviously not an original idea, but it really works for me.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well thank uou kindly..doesnt happen when I use computer but the iPad is so touchy, least pressures on the the screen and it opens another link.

Are you seeing signs of the storm?

Madison, AL

Yes, definitely an issue with the IPad - nothing is ever simple - with technology one step forward and two back. We have had lots of wind today, but no rain. Here in the Raleigh area we are not expecing anything too bad - just very cloudy and windy. Hope it holds. It looks bad for the folks further north.

Lyndonville, NY

Roof is fixed and holding so far.

Not really making a costume Betty.....but sort of...... I am making Waylon a pair of those "lounge" pants. Like pajama pants. He will however wear them for Halloween. one of his good friends has three kids, Waylon is like an uncle to them, he babysits sometimes......anyways the family is all dressing as pirates! one of the kids is going to be the captain.!!

I am making pants, a sash and a headband for Waylon., and Pants for his friend Joe. He is going to wear a shirt I made for hubs a few years ago, it is similar to a pirate shirt / frontiersman shirt.

I got a bunch of Christmas fabric on sale !! 50% off. the fabrics Waylon picked out were 60% off. Had a coupon for one item 50% off, I got a new 12.5'' square, mine was looking pretty rough. had a coupon for 25% off entire order including sale items!! we spent just under $100. and savings listed at bottom of receipt.....$ 161.68 ^_^ whhoooo hoooo !!! Waylon will pay for his fabrics, and Joe is paying me to make his pants !!! it was a very good shopping trip with my darlin baby boy!!!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello All !

Thunder - shopping success ! Friends went as pirates last year and will again this year....last year the baby boy was the parrot! But not for this year.... I'm looking for some gold coins to give when they come by the house...
Debbie how was the bday ? what's going on this week?

Hmm... Betty - I've gone to a few Ipad classes....there are programs associated with Microsoft Word, Excel powerpoint etc... The Word one is called "Pages". Stillword's idea may work if you buy that app...

lizrainey those are super halloween dec! We used to put up a lot... but with girls gone... and kids older... we've not done anything this year. It's more Hubs fav holiday than mine...

Talked with Dad (lives near Marion) and his wife tonight. Drats had bought them Outback certs for his bday and when they tried to use them they were not activated. I called and all is set straight with the restaurant. I realized I had not been charged for them either. If you buy from them you may want to be sure charges go through before giving them away.

Also found out he has a faulty heart valve. They will watch this. BIL and FIL had this surgery. I sensed when we visited in Sept... that something was awry.... Dad asked me to be executor and they showed me their plots. I'm glad we are going to see them soon... possibly December.

Other than Hubs sick (Thanks for best wishes Susan!) it has been a good weekend. Still cleaning a LOT. You know when you are pregnant and get the "Nesting" Bug? It's like that but opposite because the kids are LEAVING the nest... maybe I'm re-claiming it ?

LOL HUGS
Mary

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hello Stillwood, nice to have you here.
Mary, sure hope hubby is feeling better soon!
Thunder that is a great savings on the fabric! Nice going!

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, no plans really. Getting the house ready for this storm and shopping for that. Shane now has the crud along with Shannon. I might just get the lysol out and
get crazy! lol Three of us on antibiotics. Depending on the storm, DH is supposed to go to Iowa for work Thursday....will see.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Hope all of you on the East coast has your supplies stocked up, and ready for that storm, they just said it is heading for New York City.

There is a Christmas swap open if anyone is interested.

Morning all

Raining and blowing, damp and cold brrrr

No sooner got in that Paul called and had me e-mail the 3 office to say 'close up at 2:00pm' as he doesn't want us on the road just incase the high winds expected tonight of 80-100kl do happen. Also called Jim but he isn't in yet to tell him 'do what you have to do' and get home...Toronto is suppose to be worse so as Jim takes public transportation he wants him home.

Nice to have a considerate boss

Greg just called and said he'd be at my house at 4:45pm to take down gazebo top, should have been done over the weekend but he was a busy man with both work and winterizing his pool/hot tub area. Will be once less thing for me to worry about if the winds do come up.

LindaKay, looked at that Christmas swap thread twice over the weekend, almost put my name down but then I know a lot of DG members do not like to send to Canada so didn't sign my John Henry..

Debbie, sorry to hear that there are 3 of you under the weather, makes for a quiet household. Let's hope Paul still get to go to his meeting..does he like travelling? Jeff does a lot of travelling, had to hire someone new, said he'd make sure whoever he hires can travel, he hates it with a passion..could always hire his mom to do the travelling/meetings lol

Mary, can just imagine how worried you are about the news of your dad..any idea why they wouldn't operate immediately? Funny how one can sense things about their loved ones. Guess all the talk about 'if I were to die' might have been his way of letting you know.

Riley was anxious to get outside this morning, she's the traveller, never wants to be in, 5 minutes later and she wanted in again..now comfy for the day!

Good Morning to you all.

Good advice Stillwood. Hope all goes well for you storm-wise.

Mary, Dollar General had little bags of gold foil wrapped chocolate coins for Halloween last year, perhaps those would work....or Mardi Gras doubloons?

Good thoughts across the Continent today....Be Safe and Be Well.

Jean

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, put your name on the list, it will be fun!

Lyndonville, NY

Stay safe everyone! Dark and dreary here. I am heading to Walmart with DS to get some supplies for "just in case".

Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thought you would all like to see Dylan in his first Halloween costume, he is a little pirate! He is also learning to pull himself up, and loves to stand at things!

Can't believe how much he's grown..lordy, before you know it he'll be in school..
Don't you just love seeing them dressed for 'halloween'?

LindaKay, you are with me today, drinking from your Bronners mug..lol snowmen smilling at me as I drink.

Wish I could figure out how to get a pdf file on here..it's about Cindy Desjardins, remember the girl in the building that had flesh eating disease just after giving birth to her son, all about how brave and how she's coping with no hands..
beautiful photo of her and the family

Jean I so remember getting those gold pieces when I was younger, went from having chocolate in them to chewing gum..would be nice to give them out.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - I'm on the Christmas Swap (Santa Warren's and Jaye's), and as we know, I'm in CANADA too!
I sent a nightgown in the PJ swap, and it got there within a week!
Looks like your furry roommate is back for the cold weather.....

LK - Dylan is just kissable in his Johnny Depp pirate costume - in fact I venture to say he's Cuter than Johnny Depp!!

Mary - glad the Outback certs got straightened out!! It's amazing how seniors will know about things with their health, and sometimes they transmit them to us, and other times not. You're obviously in tune with your Dad and his health. I'll pray for him and all the family.

Debbie - heard on news that Obama is asking people in NY to evacuate....... would guess that would be you, too!! Be extra careful and don't take chances, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - we could always Google about Cindy Desjardins and the disease.
I thought maybe you could save the pdf as a jpg, but no........ could maybe do a PrtScrn, and open it in Paint, paste it, then save it as a jpg.........

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Susan, think it is just New York city has to evacuate??

a few more sips of coffeee, and I am off to sew some pants...

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You should be able to copy the address for the pdf and send it as a link, Betty.

Dylan is such a cutie...big healthy fella...grin

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm not sure, Thunder, however if the prez comes to town, I imagine it IS the "Big Apple"
I'm not sure how far Lyndonville is, so figured to hedge my bets and hope she's safe too.
After all, these storms don't pay attention to whether it's rural or suburban.......

Lyndonville, NY

No no, not me. HOWEVER, they just raised our State of Emergency to the nearby counties. I had to run to Walmart and it is just as packed as it was Saturday.

Nothing is closed here yet, schools are open but looks like colleges are closing now at 4:00. No unnecessary travel for this evening. Wind is just now starting to pick up a bit.

I am WAY in Upstate NY. Right between Buffalo and Rochester...but on Lake Ontario. NYCity is about 7 hour drive for us. We have lake warnings.....with the wind "swirling" from the north east....saying 20 to 24 foot waves on the Great lakes!!! Unheard of. I am 3 miles from the lake...so should be OK.

Here is our weather http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/new-york/weather-radar If it doesn't come up with Lyndonville, just type that in or 14098.

mulege, Mexico

Watched hurricane Sandy coverage alone, then with Tony, then with neighbor Dana as their computer and TV aren't up yet. Hard to imangine what is happening and how unlikely efforts like sandbags are to be of much help.

Tony and I went to town. Two hardware stores and two groceries. Got the first fresh orange juice of the season. Spotted some shelves outside a third grocery and we may be able to buy them to have shelves on which to start seeds. Wood is very expensive here. That, plus Tony's time building, makes buying a better option.

It seems strange to be here thinking about shelves and crafts while so much of the USA and Canada are being threatened by Sandy.

God help us.

hugs, katie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Debbie - this is what I found:
http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/lyndonville-ny/14098/weather-forecast/5477_pc
It says you have Lakeshore Flood Warning in effect for Lyndonville area.
It also says you will feel it tonight with wind and rain., then have Tropical Rainstorm Sandy tomorrow with "A little rain and wind from Tropical Rainstorm Sandy".
It doesn't sound all that bad, but glad you're stocking up. Do you have an emergency kit with non-perishable foods, etc?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi everyone!!! I'm just going to stop working for a minute and tell you all that I miss you!! I hope everyone stays safe, this is another perfect storm, maybe more perfect than the last perfect storm.

YAY GIANTS WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Crissy, so glad to took a few minutes to pop in and say hello! Hope all is going well for you!

Betty, yes, I am drinking hot cider in my cup!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Waving big time Crissy, we sure do miss you as well..hope your life is starting to be less stressful and that you get a few laughs in each day!! Big hugs

went to buy (on my lunch hour) a few more cases of pop, had enough chocolate bars and chips for 125 but was short 2 cases of pop to even out the Halloween bags and picked up pizza for Suzanne and I..quick stop at fabricland, got to the office and Paul had called to say, leave at 1:00 so by the time I organized myself it was 1:30. Listened to Mayor of Toronto warning everyone to secure everything outside, gave emergency numbers should there be flooding, hydro lines down etc. doubtful they shall need it but always better safe than sorry. Here in the north we will likely ny have the w dswas thinking maybe I will sleep in back bedroom just ncase those giant tree n front come down.

Now home and comfy, l did a walkabout, few things should be better secured but pretty well everything put away . I'll go help Greg with the gazebo when he comes then can settle in for the night.

I was short of green Christmas fabric for a project I was doing soooo likely I'll play in the craftroom for a few hours.

As for the write up on Cindy, what a courageous woman, somehow I'll get it posted, if not the photo's at least the write up.

Katie, wire shelving will be lighter as well, good for you..we're they in garbage or did you have to purchase?? If free then what a deal..

Am watching weather and know where about all my dg friends live and anxious that all are ok..

Here is hoping those who can post do so we don't fret

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Barb checking in from NH> I have been sewing all day and tried NOT to look outside often. The rain has been pounding most of the day and the winds now are really picking up. As I live next to a state forest, we tend to keep a close eye on them but so far we are fine. There are power outages everywhere here now but so far we have not lost ours. Brandon came yesterday and helped Norm get everything inside. I'm sure we will fare just fine so don't worry about us. I'm most concerned with Robin and those in New Jersey , Delaware and Pennsylvania. And then there is Ohio and West virginia that the weather is showing as getting snow!!!!
Well, off to see about some laundry...Waving to all.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to see you checked in Barb, and to hear your OK! But don't take any chances, if it looks like it is going to get bad, please get to a safe place!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the concern LK. I'm amazed at the size of this storm!! It covers a HUGE area and affects millions of people. I'm just really glad I don't live in New York City!!!! The subways are all flooded!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Barb I am so glad you popped in for a minute, I was worried too. I was watching on the news last night that they were afraid of that happening! Guess that's never happened before? This is a massive and very dangerous storm.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Barb, can't tell you how glad I am you checked in today. I can't even fathom the destruction that will be caused when the 3 front collide. Betty, you to be safe and smart idea to sleep away from the large tree area. Funny as it may seem, we have been having really high gusty winds all day today as well as yesterday. The news said it was a side effect of this storm. The barometric pressure being so low and continuing to drop got my attention really fast.

Stay safe everyone........thinking and sending prayers for all.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

good to see you, Crissy - really MISS you!

Barb - so glad you checked in...... I worry for you, girl!
So many on the east coast and inland are in danger or, at the very least, frightened of what might happen....
Time to "batten down the hatches" and secure everything. Hope no one has floods in their homes....... Keep Safe, please

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Unfortunately it isn't just the east coast involved now. The area is so large it will be effecting a large portion of Canada also. Unbelievable.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I don't htink I have heard of any storm this big before now. It is HUGE!!! And so strange as well. I live in the north and my brother in NC is getting snow!!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I think this one will definitely make the record books. Just so sad so many people will be effected by this mess.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

This is what I found re: Sandy

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb, really glad you dropped in, you know how worried we all get. wouldn't it help having the forest around you, bit more protection? Let's hope you don't lose your power. Haven't watched the weather report, guess I should.

Chilled to the bones

Kept asking Greg to come help take the gazebo cover/screens off, kept saying as soon as I can, spoke with him this morning, was coming right after work, by 5:00 I thought before it gets dark I'll go out and at least start..no sooner went out the sky opened, wind is up..got it done, wasn't fussy having to be on the highest rung of the ladder but you got to do what you got to do..it's times like this when you think come spring I'm getting an apartment, to heck with all this work, then you get it done and I'm all happy again..know the kids are busy but sheeesshh it took me an hour, would have been all of 10 minutes for them.. I was sopping wet, looked like a drowned rat.

Fingers still numb..had hot bath, in my Jammie's ..I had been sewing up till 5:00 now I have to decide if I want to go put all my mess away because the girls come tomorrow or if I will finish what I started..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

siiiiiiiiiiiigh.......... went to meeting at church to plan the Remembrance Day service Nov 11
