1st Annual 'Christmas Friendship Gift Exchange' in Memory of Santa Warren
We were all thrilled last year when Dianne and Santa Warren brought up having a Gift Exchange amongst we friends, often thought of more as family.
"I guess we should decided on an upper limit cost wise, I would hate to see anyone withdraw because they were afraid the couldn't keep up with the Joneses (old Welsh expression). So I guess we should consider a guide for the cost factor, it doesn't have to be hand made"
No amount will be set.. gifts either handmade or bought will be within each others budget !!!
Deadline to participate is October 15th
names given on the 16th
mailing by November 10th as to be ahead of the Christmas rush
Thank you Dianne for hosting this Christmas Exchange and we will look forward to our names..

Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chat with friends
Drats, I'll just be sick if Joann's when I visit in 2 weeks doesn't have my background fabric..I've run out for all of about 3" x 16"..got to set my project aside, here I hoped to have it quilted this weekend seeing as it will rain next 3 days now in a corner it will go..
that little bottom right hand corner, all that is missing!
Debbie, cheer up, my daughter will be celebrating the 29th anniversary of her 21st birthday on the 19th of November. Yes, I started young....roflol!!! Hope she is feeling much better.
Betty, please stay in touch about the dates as Ft. Myers is about 20 miles from where I stay when south. Not a huge distance..........maybe you could come here with us and fly home from Tally? Not sure of connections flight wise.
Judy keep up the good work with the cigs!!!! So proud of you.
How much do you need Betty? I have some in my stash....let me ASAP as I will be going to PO later.
To be on safe side about 4" width wise..sure would appreciate it..not that I can't wait. Till buffalo but afraid they will run out
Have a kitty giving me a problem, might be mad I leave them alone inside on weekends, some one pee'd in a corner and one on some important sewing aids..drats
Think it's Missy
Just washed the floor in craftroom, now going to organize fabrics, please Lord, let's hope she hasn't done it on the tote bags I've made and Xmas fabric stash. Grrr
Still acting up since we loss Sailor!
Betty, could be an infection also. My cat does that when she has one. ROFLOL every time you mention Missy I double check. That is what my family calls me.
Consider your fabric on it's way!!! I have it and will send. BTW, have you received the 5" swap packet yet?
Congrats to Sharon for more wins at the dog show Betty. She must be so proud of them!
Yeah, Marion to the rescue!
What good is a stash if you can't help a friend out in need. :-) Who knows there will come a day I need something ...........
Marion, big hugs for the fabric, sure is appreciated..nope, not as yet have I received the squares but then I haven't been to post office since Wednesday..perhaps I'll drop in when I go to Foodland this afternoon
busy busy, need some vinegar to wash down areas of craft room so waiting for that 3pm..
Dianne just came, Lordy, brought 3 big boxes of books for watercolors, acrylics and oils..also had a gorgeous set of shaker boxes, think 5 in total, she thought I could put them somewhere, possibly paint them
She no sooner left a grey car pulled in, thought she had forgotten something but it was Darlene, bringing me a smaller tarp for the gathering of leaves...took her downstairs, showed her what Dianne dropped off, told her on Tuesday for them to go through the books take what they want then the rest of them have to be thrown away..my craft room is the catch all for books, materials and supplies, hardly room for working.
Darlene saw the quackery boxes, she liked the largest of them, said she could paint something on it for her dad's ashes, so it went home with her.
Her mom was being transferred to Penetanguishene, Darlene went home exhausted..
Spitting a bit, could it not wait till tomorrow..off to wash my hands, smell terrible
Hope I have it when you do Marion!
Just went to the shed and got a tote, not taking chances with the quilting projects I have sitting out in the craft room which are done, best I put them away so there is no danger than Missy likes them..
Have spray 9, will see if that helps clean her hiding spots..some fabrics going byebye
forgot to show you the books to go through..I'll keep the rest of these shaker boxes, will look through the books tonight..there is a caligraphy set, I'll put it with my things, rest likely in the dump..great books / patterns though but most I have as Dianne did painting together.
one tote she pee'd on..about 4 years of fusible pelon..I'm not a happy camper
Betty, been having the same cat issue here. Took Axl to the vet yesterday and he has crystals in his urine. Cystitis and spasms. Put him on a bladder calming anti- inflamatory for a few days. AND....needs soft food with more moisture. Might want to take her for a check up.
Thanks Debbie..I'm sure it was because both cats were locked in over the past weekend and they do not like each other, just showing me who is boss that I'd best do things differently..all cleaned, just washed floors again , 3rd time, and everything smells clean.
didn't even get to washroom, closest thing was getting the steamer out, tomorrow's another day right?
Said I'd do raking at days end (3pm) when does rain start pouring ?? 3:02pm so its inside
Tired anyway, playing with the dresden plate table cloth I'm doing for Melanie, won't be at it long, nice hot bath and watch tv is what is in store for tonight
Betty, if you have any craft books left, put some in a flat rate box and send them this way please, next time you're across the border. I will send you postage. Big flat rate box is about $15.00. Who know's, I may learn a new craft or two!
Amiga gave my nose a friendly nip - no blood drawn.
I've been low energy all week. If I'm not better by next week we'll go to Santa Rosalia where I can see a doctor and have a urine test done to see if I have some kind of infection. Meanwhile I'm drinking lots of cranberry juice.
It's nice to have neighbor Dana back and I'm hoping we can do some craft stuff together. She brought some packages for me including instructions on how to turn a mann's tie into a fabric rose.
hugs, katie
Painting LindaKay, will do though if you want
Going over in 2 weeks
What I can send is what I call a painting bible..explains in detail..I have one, extra one in boxes
Glad to hear you will see a doctor Katie..how far is Santa Rosalia from you? Sounds like a fun thing to learn, interesting. Has Dana done them before...always old ties laying around.
Ohhh. In the heat of the night with Sidney Poitier (?) on, haven't seen that in decades..must watch
Got the tub and zinc cleaned, don't want to work anymore anyway..any excuse to be lazy. Lol
Betty you are not coming up for the craft show next weekend? I know you love that. Probably best with the weather expected mid week also.
Fixed some country ribs for dinner and fried potatoes. Neither Shannon nor I felt like eating them, then burned my arm on the oven. Good grief!!
DH has been on the roof last two days patching a leak around the base of the chimney that is going straight through to DSs room. Next will be to replace
part of his ceiling!!! DH is trying to get it done as we are expecting rain from tonight until next Thursday!!! Saying two inches tonight....and an inch a day
thereafter.
Doubtful Debbie, I'm in need of rest and the 3 ladies I travel with the next weekend in Buffalo shop till they drop, even look for stores that are open all night.
I vowed this weekend I'd not get out of my Jammie's..actually I forgot to get tickets for tonight's lottery draw. 50 million and 50 -1 million draws, going to throw a jacket on and go next door just as I am.
Sure hope Paul can do a makeshift patch job till the rain stops, don't need more damage and the mold, that is what would worry me.
No hurry on the box Betty, 2 weeks will be fine, and that bible of painting sounds nice.
Watching Anderson Cooper, Lordy few states have issued state of emergency and storm hasn't it even hit yet?? Think NY did that when Irene hit and it ended up not as bad as predicted. Let's hope the torment does not become stronger as they think..worry about you all
LK, I have a couple of boxes of quilting mags if you are interested. Well anyone for that matter...a few other craft books thrown in but not sure what they are. So if any here are wanting any of these...give me a holler.
I is here Betty - reading all posts... just alurking as of late I guess... too tired to post....
But I am following along... (HUGS) all
Mary
Hi - lost you for a day........
Katie - glad she just nipped you! btw - low energy......could it be that you're low on iron? Stress and everything else your body has been going through will "eat up" the iron in your system.
Betty - jammie weekend is not a bad thing at all!
I was thinking about getting a ticket for the lottery, but then Bob has one with his boss & 2 co-workers, and after all, it just takes one ticket to win, right?
I also did the Cash & Cars lottery with Alberta Health a couple of months ago. Not that many tickets printed, so I have a better chance of winning something........
Forgot to give y'all a link - very cool instrument! Think about the tuning lol
http://www.youtube.com/embed/XlyCLbt3Thk?rel=0
Betty, we already have a State of Emergency in place here. They are more worried about the "battle" when these two storms hit over NY....the cold front and the hurricane. I will go tomorrow and stock up on things.
Mary, how are you doing? You have been running non-stop!!
I told DH I wanted to spend the weekend in PJs and he reminded me tomorrow is Jeanna's birthday and we are going for dinner.
Shannon has to go back to work at 12:00 tomorrow til 9:00. Me thinks she will cough on them and get sent home!!! BUT as said she is on probation and
can't call in.
We have rain here. They said rain for us until probably Thursday! Yikes!!!
Debbie - Please stay safe my sis! Worrying about you all... sounds rough... haven't had a chance to look at weather...
Yes - I haven't stopped lately. It's all I can do to keep up with folks on here...
But I am keeping up and I'm on your side with the Battles... and Hugs for the bad times...
and a Cheer for the good times...
Maybe tomorrow I can post more... my first day in a long time with no alarm....
HUGS
Mary
Debbie - so have my prayers and thoughts with you, and all in the area of the two storms..... what a battle, eh? Please stay safe..... I can understand you not being able to get online when they're at their worst......
Morning all,
Just checked our weather forecast, rain for the entire week..poor little ghosts/goblins will be fighting cold and rainy weather..we have been known to have snow the odd year..let's hope they get a reprieve during trick or treat.
Mary, you just sit with us, no need to catch up, just knowing you are ok is fine with us.
Debbie, let's cross our fingers that the work Paul is doing on the room fixes the problem with all this rain expected. Know you have quite a slanted roof line, worried about that!
happy birthday to Jeanna! Sure she wouldn't mind seeing you in Jammie's.
Shannon is right, at least if she shows up and is still coughing they may send her home and it won't be held against her.
Off to turn up the heat, dark out there, know it rained during the night but not at present so just might go and rake a bit more when daybreak comes..in the meantime coffee, apple turnover and put a plan together for what will keep me busy today.
work today, early shift....I feel like I just went to bed !! well it was only 4 1/2 hours ago !! gonna be a looong day.
going to Joann's after work, Waylon wants me to make him some of those lounge pants, sew we are going to go pick him out some fabrics.....I am seeing some Halloween sewing in my very near future.....skeletons, spiders....probably some "biker" type designs....
hope Y'all have a good one.
It's 5am and I'm up and awake. Woke up at four and couldn't get back to sleep.
My right side is still a little sore. That and being tired are my main symptoms. Don't know if it's liver or kidney. If it was appendix I'd have had a crisis.
Dana went to town yesterday and took the tomato seeds I had sorted out for Manuel to him.
Around the time of the tropical storm I planted a bunch of seeds. With all the rain I think they all germinated. I have to find people who want some sprouted seeds. Lots of beans, broccoli and brussel sprouts. Two perennial sachi inca plants that I started in Ca. are doing well in their permanent home. I got the seeds from my new friend in Costa Rica. They are called the Inca peanut. A nut-like plant that is supposed to be very nutritious. I have more seeds getting started and more seeds to share.
There's a small storm in the Pacific south of Manzanilla. Doesn't look threatening for us but we'll keep watching. Doesn't look like Sandy has moved since yesterday. Let's hope the two storms meet way out in the Atlantic.
I have one "velvet apple" tree going from five seeds I got from Costa Rica. And one cherimoya from a bunch of seeds I planted a year ago. I have two types of cherimoya seeds to get planted.
Stay safe everyone.
hugs, katie
Daybreak, not raining yet, wondering how heavy wet leaves are. Lol
Ohhh Thunder, you will have so much fun picking fabrics for Waylon's costume..this will be my first year not making them, although it took a lot of energy to make them I'll miss it! Will want to see your finished project.
Speaking making things for young ones DIL Melanie's sister had twins last month, she asked if we (meaning ME) could make a measure stick for height for the baby boy/girl for Christmas..told her she would have to come and look through my pattern books for the one I'm thinking of..I can see the cover, turquoise blue..think the measuring stick had elephant on the top?? Hmmm might be easier for me to find, perhaps on one of my breaks.
Katie, you must be a fantastic gardener..it's always so interesting to hear what you have planted and the success of your endeavors..you will over the next years when they have matured have more veggies and fruit than you will know what to do with..if you think it could be kidney infection please make that appointment, nothing to play with, can be deadly. Guess you can rest a bit today in the sunshine? I'm so envious of you, leading such a life!! Here is hoping you and Dana will get a day to craft soon..
Good morning, we have had a steady rain since about 7:00 last night. Very dark and dreary
Thanks for the birthday wishes for my girl, will pass them on to her. I look back to 29 years ago and just shudder, pure miracle we are both here.
Katie, have you ever had problems eating things with seeds before? You could have a form of diverticulitis. Seeds (even corn or tiny strawberry) get stuck
in the intestinal pockets and get infected. Although the pain is usually on the lower left...you never know what can set things off. I thinks a visit to the doctor is in order as this has been going on for some time, and with your meds....and recent surgery, you shouldn't take a chance. HUGS!!!
Ok, going for coffee....waving to all. Stay warm and dry and safe!!!!
Debbie
Good Morning!
Betty, Betty...Thought you were going to take it easy and get some rest!!
Um, lol Raking is not exactly resting, lol, again...Didn't you get one of those leaf eaters??
...Hahah, about clearing your fire pit!!, So giggling away, I seem to remember Sunshine volunteering to help...So keep a spade handy for when she comes to teach about the mushrooms, R O F L O L!!!
Speaking of fire pit, have you heard from BJ?
Oh my gosh, those puppies are adorable, Sharon must be just thrilled to pieces.
Mary, Sending you some Big armwraps, I hope the weekend gives you some time to yourself to unwind.
Katie, awe geeze sure hope the nip on nose heals up...LOL, on me, I had to re-read the dogs escape a couple time before i figured out what was up? So I hope you were able to figure out how to enclose it so they don't get away on you. How grand you were able to harvest and share some seeds. Nice to have your neighbor to do crafts with!! Have you all decided what you want to do? What kind of crafts do you enjoy?
Debbie, How are you feeling today? I hope better and the new meds are taking effect...Hope Paul gets the Chimney leak fixed up. Tell him to please be careful up there. Steve has to fix a leak on the new Harport, lol that's what he's calling his new addition for the Harley, cute huh? So whats your plans for the day?
Marion, So sorry to hear Mom has taken a turn, have you heard from your Sister? Keeping you all in thoughts and Prayers...And how are you feeling? Sending some gentle armwraps your way to.
Thunder!! Waiving hiya, So cool you'll make comfy pant for Waylan!! Meant to tell you too, Saw your works, as always wonderful job...Did you finish your sunflowers to go with Mommas art? Well, early shift for you, hope it goes quickly.
Hey, Sunshine, OH NO! sure hope the pond water line is an easy fix, what a big bummer it happened...but I sure hope the elephant ear is ok. Also, wanted to say..I was really glad you had a nice fire. Awe, I'm sure the kittens will go to good homes...Man, that is awful about black cats and Halloween, People are just nuts, but at least the shelters keep them safe., Oh and how cool, your son will take one and you get to keep one!! Sure wish my honey would fall in love with a puppy...Were not cat people, but man I would just love to get a puppy, sigh, he is adamant about No dogs, pffft, while pouting.
Linda kay, LOL yep, craft table is still full of stuff, haha...have to use the couch and chair for laundry folding!! Thats just bad!! But getting to it slow but sure...So have you been able to work on your Granny squares? Thanks for posting your pictures from the Michigan gathering, just love them!
Dianne...Not sure if I said, But OH my gosh i was just smiling away about having Diesel pick the names, just adorable while "training" him at the same time...awe, poor thing, so glad the neutering has bothered him!
And i sure hope your feeling better from the Dental, Hope those infection are healing up for you...
Susan, wow, you had snow!! Glad you got all your running done safely. Bummer about the job(can't remember if I posted about ) Well lets hope if something comes about for, if you still want to work...So sweet Bob has said you "didn't" really have to...I know, you want to be able to help and i think just knowing that probably helps sooth things.
Hi Barb!! Well, I figure we'll connect via phone soon...Hope you don't get hit with the storms.
I'll d-mail you my phone number next!
So, Last night i had the most awful Anxiety attack...Haven't had one in ages. Thank goodness Steve was home. He helped to calm me down...Then i ended up falling asleep on the couch at 9:15!!
Well, I was up very early today...made a list, which is quite long, of todo's today...Going to be very busy!
First things, first...got tarted on my first piece for exchange, big happy smile!! Now going to take advantage of another nice sunny day, hope to finish with the wood stacking!
So, I hope you all enjoy your day too, Wink and a smile.
Morning everyone!
Judy, sounds like your off and running as usual! I have about 200 granny squares crocheted, and I need about 100 more. They should be done by next week, then I can start sewing them together. I do about 1 skien a day, and that makes about 23 squares. I am also making those placemats for my sister, from the fabric I got in Frankenmuth.
Here is the block, I still need to put the green borders on it, then sandwich and quilt it!
Judy, weather did not cooperate for the raking...not sure if I should smile or not seeng I can play in the craft room now..no sooner got dressed, went outside that it started to rain heavily, sign from above saying no work for you today!
Seeing I was dressed decided to take a run into town..I had a call from the snowmobile/sport outlet that the snowmobile passes had finally come in..I had dropped in a few weeks ago and told them to call and put 2 trail permits aside..can't believe they went up again..
They had all the information needed to fill in the two passes, salesman told me they had gone up because of the price of gas, gave him a REALLY hard time, wanted to know seeing as we've had little snow the past 3 years why the $200 each permit didn't go down??? He tried to explain but I wouldn't go for his answers, finally he said I'd have to call the ontario Federation of Snowmobilers and express my concerns..who was the salesman at the counter?? My Kyle, seems 2 front staff were out sick, step throat, so he had to deal with customers.
No big surprise at Christmas, always buy he and Greg the same..didn't even walk out with the stickers, said he'd keep them and put them on their snow machines..bought a snowmobile shirt for Greg and there went $500 and only came out with a little bag.good part is they both are done...
Then off to purchase pop/chocolate bars and chips for tricker treaters..bought enough for 100..if it rains I'll have more than enough and will have treats for me, which I do not need.
As I was leaving grocery store my cousin was selling poppies, her hubby was at the post office doing same...they looked so cold..she asked me if I'd been to the Legion for the craft sale so off I went..sad to say when you do so many different crafts there isn't much to 'wow' you and buy something..now home and will get back into my Jammie's..got sidetracked a bit but few things needed done.
Debbie, you were much like Stacey and myself, very I'll during your pregnancy..brings back memories..loss of two baby girls for me..aren't we glad those days are behind us..am sure had they not made sure I couldn't try for more I'd still have been trying..look what angels we have because of it.
Judy, any idea what brought on your panic attack? Could it be due to withdrawal?
any news on the house sale..did Steve/partner and the young couple come to a compromise? Sure hooe so, would be nice having that behind you. Where is Steve working now?
did I tell you Judy that Bertie might look into getting her passport so she can come with Joyce?
Well, off to get comfy, drink my Timmies coffee and work on Melanie's table cloth..I'm actually loving it..I better had because I am making one for Julie, can't give to one and not the other..I'd love on but likely no time to make one unless I want to do that no sleep for a few weeks like I did last year..won't go there!
What are the rest of you up to?
You talk about me taking it easy, look what is on your list young lady.
Gorgeous LindaKay..fabrics look elegant! How many will you make??
Last two years I enjoyed doing granny squares at work, gave all those afghans to the seniors home at Christmas, then think I gave everyone one so I've nobody to make them for..senseless making them just for sake of something to do..what design will you make ? Quilt like?
When I cleaned the craft room last night found an easy strip pattern to make placematts and thought of making sets to go with the tablecloths, mindless kind of pattern, we'll see
Was just thinking, don't have any of my fall/Halloween decorations out this year, that is a first, even Matilda Noseworthy, Witch is in/witch is out are hanging in the back shed..bet your witch is hanging Judy? Almost too late for to put the effort not decorating.
I'm rambling, that means I ought to get busy
