As the old saying goes, Hope springs eternal in the heart and eyes of a gardener. grin Usually October and November, March and April are our best months for being outside.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - Missy is surely missing Sailor, and hope she can "get past it". I know furries grieve, but it's so hard on you.....

Debbie - eating disorders are not fun for furry or owner........

Jean - yes, hope springs eternal, for all things human lol We all know that one!!

Heading out to Bible Study this am - chat later.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jean you still have Lord's of gardening ahead of you then..oh me gosh, I was just about to type that we've been known to have snow end of October and it hit me, that is next month..wow, not good!

poor Izzy, guess its a matter of doggy proofing everything and that wouldn't be easy..does she spend most of the day outside? Debbie, are there hotels near Darien Lake and can you tell me which ones..all the places, cabins/rv's they rent out you have to book 2 nights..guess I could and just stay over till early early Monday morning with the boys.. A thought I guess..but then the hotel I normally stay at is less than 1 hr drive isn't it

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

No snow...... sunset at 8:15pm, and sunrise is later and later.
Will be having 24c temps tomorrow, Sat & Sun.
Bob's home for part of the day today, and will be working on overhang from rooftop to 4ft beyond........ over the entrance to deck, doorway and BBQ area.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, Izzy is inside most of the day glued to my side or feet. When I get up and move...kitchen, bathroom wherever...she follows me. I go out to get the mail, she barks at me til I get back. Separation anxiety ya might say. She is my girl...and thats it. AND...I think her being in the kennel last time without DH or myself...flared this latest episode since July.

NOW...you ask about hotels. The first one on this list is the closest. I would say check out the second one on the list in Batavia. Not far, 11 miles away...but has a new water park inside it. It is pretty cool looking from the outside as the slide goes OUT the building and back in....totally encased. We can see it from the Thurway. Makes fun incase of bad weather.

Victoria Harbour, ON

A tremendous amount of work..good for him to continue his project without a lot of ^>#% lol

You know Susan, like it or not the snow is coming

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, booked a suite at the Clarion with indoor water park For Sat night, now I'll see about staying ober on the Sunday night as well with their parents

Tks

Lyndonville, NY

No problem And....there is a Bob Evans just near by, and my favorite restaurant with Ribs called Alex's which has the BEST. AND...if you take the drive in front of the hotel into batavia....there is a Joanns!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well you can't ask for better than that..is there a Debbie?? Lol
Great price for hotel, also you can but park entry tickets for $34.95 each, they said that is a savings of $10 each, each day, then a $10 per person charge for their watermark so the Darien Lake discount pays for indoor water park..I'm thrilled with that.

I will check with their parents if I have to stay with them ALL day seeing their age or if I can get away for an hour or so..think it's about $15 each for the Halloween screem shack/field ride..just once a year so grandma doesn't mind going broke..it's the feeding this crew all weekend that akes bucks lol

Ponderosa on Niagara Falls blvd has an all you can eat breakfast buffet so I'll fill them up as soon as we cross over...

Sure do feel better knowing its a rain or shine situation thanks to you

Lyndonville, NY

There is a Debbie! And she was thinking of meeting for dinner maybe?

Betty, there are a LOT of restaurants in Batavia. It is a college town (where DD goes) and I believe a Ponderosa. Also a Chinese buffet that is pretty good.

Walmart and Target right down road from Hotel also.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yep, as always I'm excited to get to meet up with you..that is a for sure

Wouldn't be a trip without doing a meet up

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Waving!!! I'm still alive!

Happy Birthday Barb! Hope it's a grand one!

Had 12 for our garden club meeting the other night and everyone was raving about how good the garden looks....geez....I think it looks awful! They said theirs are all brown and if it's not brown, it has bug holes in it! I was tsked, tsked because I didn't enter anything in the county fair from the garden. So maybe next year I will. They didn't have any hosta leaves and they said the variagated obedient plant would have been awesome as well as any of the elephant ear leaves. I don't live in that county, but the garden judging is open to all abutting counties.

Trying to think of all I read.....good to see you Shirley, and Katie. Yay on your fun trip, Mary. Susan, congrats on the new toy! :o) Debbie I thought you fit in perfectly with all the sistahs! Betty, sounds like you'll be having a ball with the boys and now a dinner with our dear Deb. PLUS a Joann's!!! Wow..... LK, what adorable little ones. We're glad you made it safely back. Jean, glad things are getting back to normal for you. Marion, thinking of you and the kids and your Mom as usual. Hope all is going well,. especially for Kim in the new school year.

Of the 4-6 inches of rain they thought we'd get from Isaak, we got about 3/4 inch. Sigh....
All around us getting 2 and 3 inches. What's wrong with that??? EVERYTHING!

Okay, out to make some mushrooms. Have to go sieve my peat moss. :o( That used to be Dad's job. Several of the girls said they wanted to buy mushrooms the other night, but no one said which ones they wanted! So I'll make a variety, plus another jumbo for the set I'm doing for you, Betty!

One of the ladies really wants the little white girl kitten. We'll see. She's the mother of our club president and she has had some SERIOUS health problems recently. I'm afraid if I let her have the kitten, her daughter will be mad at me. I told her that Jordyn may have already given that one away. (That's true, too!) They are eating well, but most don't have the hang of the litter box yet....dang....

Okay, must get moving!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - snow will be coming, of course, but we don't get it Near as bad as you do in Ontario!!

Joyce - glad to hear your garden party was a success - we're always harder on our own gardens than others.

On Saturday our Heritage Village is having a 100th birthday. In recognition of it, they're selling veggies and fruit at 100 years ago prices. $5 for 50 lbs of potatoes, etc..... Will cost $20 to get into the gate, but suppose that's ok. I'll "weigh" the cost plust savings and give a good "think" about it. I have a little hand cart I can use..... We surely couldn't pay for both of us ($40!!!!) to go.

Hello To All !

Happy Birthday Dear Barb ♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫
Betty - no I'm taking Friday off. No more coward to witchy poo if I can help it... I stood up to her today and she backed down.
I need to be more confident and sure of myself.
That is what keeps her at bay.

DS picked me up at the shop so I am vehicle-less as of now. I will run errands with him tomorrow morning, then try to get some things done around the house.
Susan what a great toy... you'll keep it in tip top shape I know. For some reason I thought it would snow more where youare than Betty

Debbie I wonder if there aren't any sedatives that poor Izzy can take ? I still like the ambien.
Jean I LOVE that hope saying. Do you know the author?

(HUGS) all,
Mary

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Goodness no, thank you........ it snows much more in Edmonton than here, cuz they don't have Chinooks which, for us, melts the snow away. We sometimes only have enough to sweep...... We usually have about 2 weeks of really bad weather, and we may get snow any time of the year, but we're a temperate zone for Canada. Not as warm as BC, or parts of the Niagara Belt where they grow fruit and have vineyards, and not as cold as Manitoba, or the eastern provinces.. We pay for it by having mild and not hot summers.
Although I gotta tell ya - we've been having hotter summers lately........

Victoria Harbour, ON

That's my girl Mary..stand tall and don't back down , as you see it sends her for a loop and she doesn't know what to do or say..that is what is needed with her kind. Enjoy you one on one time with DS this mornimg!

We are in what they called the snowbelt of Ontario but like most of you the last few years Mother Nature has changed her mode of operation and we just don't know what to expect. Even the boys these past few years head north trailering their snowmobiles to get better snow conditions, unheard of.

Morning,
Hope everyone has a good Friday.

Mary, I have no idea on the author....It was carved into a garden rock some one gave me years ago. Grin

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will be a good Friday Jean, already been not town for groceries, sitting here with coffee and cheese Danish, Missy is finally laying on couch back just over my head and purrrr'ing!

Omg I had such a laugh this morning, last night I put a hanging basket in the pond to give it a good soak, this morning took it out to hang, several dozen frogs leaped out and Missy beside me trying to catch one or two. Lol

Got a call to go into the fabric shop yesterday to pick up my quilt kaleidoscope, think they just want to tempt me into a machine..will keep eyes open more towards Xmas.. So with cutting out the wallets at work yesterday I shall attempt to sew today as Fridays are always quiet/phones..it's a patter I did 1/4 century ago (wow double wow) I'm old, lol. I can be a dutz when it comes to following a pattern so we will see.

Going to rain at any minute , good time to see.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone!
Enjoy your sewing day Betty!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Are you still resting after your trip LindaKay or will you be sewing as well? Are you having grandchildren withdrawals yet? Lol

Imagine, just shut all the wi does and have fireplace on to take away the damp chill..tempted to go put socks on...c h i l l e d

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes, I am rested after the trip, and yes, I miss those kids so much! I really enjoyed my time with them! No sewing yet, I need to get my machine out and make some heart blocks for the other room. We are making a charity quilt, with all the blocks being heart themed.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Great project..

Yes, it hurts like the dickens when you can give to the grandkids of yourself that live nearby and you don't get to see the other but 5-6 times a year! That is why I try to hard to get the 4 together with just me..our time, just wish it could be more often

Might have to stop 1/2 way through my wallets, guess who forgot to purchase zippers

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh, I hate it when I don't have what I need on hand! maybe you can go and get some during lunch?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Not you Betty? LOL Sounds like something I would do.

Funny, my only grandchildren live 6 miles from me but sometimes it is 2 -3 weeks between visits. They are so busy in school with their activities (of course, if it is a performance I am expected to be there!) and my son and DIL are extremely disciplined regarding doing their homework. Not complaining as I am thrilled to finally see that my son realizes how important it was to do. His dad and I used to "bat our heads against a wall" trying to get him to do his work.

There is a feeling of fall in the air here this morning but still dealing with the humidity and most likely high temps today.

Need to run, have a chocolate kahlua cake in the oven for our vet. Can't let it burn..has way to much Costa Rica kahlua in it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Piece of cake please, need to get a buzz on..sure does taste yummy! Don't remember my kids being as busy with life as these grandchildren seem to be.different times now, also hopefully keeps them out of mischief..

Had all of about 30 drops if that of rain and now sun is out so it's open windows again and turn off the fireplace.

Can't go at lunch LindaKay seeng I am working from home..don't take a lunch seeing I can do what I want all day..shift ends at 3pm so will take a quick run into town then.

Took out that Kaleidescope, kind of Mickey mouse, it's plexiglass with glued on to look like mirror..screwed it up already..you had to pull backing off, guess what? I pulled 1/4 of backing off before I realized it was the long one..the important part of the unit was the stand for different angles..not beat yet, will order 2 pieces of real mirror to pick up when I go to town, quick fix. Lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Omg please tell me I'm not the only one..had my whole morning planned and now within an hour am totally geared to do something else..how did I get so off track? Read an old thread that showed up re cleaning and declutter, organization..and it came to mind that I hadn't been following FlyLady for awhile..a MUST is having a spotless shinny sink at all times, so off I went and shinned the sinc..why not do the stove at same time..ahh the stained glass lamp shades need a clean..now that it's done I'm preparing my weekly cleaning schedule, always feel better when I see the mission I'm doing..always used to get up on tv commercials and clean, wether simply dusting a piece or several.. Amazing how easy once you follow your program how clean and organized you can be..

Left over Kentucky fried chicken, need to snack

Victoria Harbour, ON

Meant to say, called Cathy and invite her for Chinese..no answer but will keep trying!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hope Cathy gets back to you - isn't she still out of town? I think her mom said something about her going out most nights?!?!

Victoria Harbour, ON

That is just a few miles down the road..she rides her bike to town and back later same day..maybe they are all gone out. Aline just dropped in for tea..always nice seeing her.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

glad Aline dropped in - it's nice to have unexpected company!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

issac just dropped in as well. Had my stops planned, made a list and it was get into town and back ..just coming out of my last store when winds, lightning, hail and torrential rains started..had just met up with Robert BIL said to his girlfriend aha betty can upholsters the cushions we need done?? Okkkk then sky broke open..could barely see to get home..soaked so I shall have hot bath and get into jammies

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

oh Betty - time to have a hot toddy!! Don't want you getting chilled! I forget...... did you need the rain?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not really, but certainly not torrential rain..100% rain for tomorrow, play day for Betty. Ann just called, she drove in same storm coming from the city..

Sharon (DS) called, had realtor come in today, said likely she could get 950 for her house, now onthe lookout for house or land between Bernie and I but because of her breeding showdogs the property must be able to have kennel and some municipalities donor allow so she'll have to do legwork to find out.will be nice to have her nearby.

On my trip to town I picked up real mirror they cut for me as i screwed up the one that came with the quilt Kaleidescope which was only silver coated on prexy glass, now works like a charm.

Must have run out of energy since my hot bath because here I am laying on the couch watching tv..only energy I found was enough to cut all the fruit I bought for a fruit cocktail.

So what did you get up to today

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I sewed!!! Working on the mystery quilt again....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Did you get to a fabric store for your birthday Barb? You and LindaKay are so committed to your quilting..how far are you in the mystery quilt? Guess if I didnt have so many craft interests I'd do better..lol

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I cleared some of the den, of stuff we moved when Bob started working on the wall/ceiling. Then I went to the church to clear some of Nami's stuff out of the Nursery and clean the sanctuary (needed sweeping). I got asked/roped into watching a travelogue movie on train travel from Egypt to Australia. It was interesting, but really should have been cleaning. Now I'll go back tonight to do it.....
I brought back some of the rugs (new shag) that she'd left behind and hasn't sold. I can't leave it there in the Nursery for ever - we have a Fall Supper on the 29th, and a Fall Cleaning on the 22nd so the room needs to be emptied of
non-Nursery stuff. The Christmas Tree she left behind is a table top one, and the previous one the church had disappeared, so they're happy to get one. They will use it at their Poinsettia Tea in November to hang decorations for sale on it.
Bob's still working on the overhang and roof (almost done the roof!!), then will start on the inside. Still can't put out my sewing table because it's so cluttered in here and Bob will want it out of the way so he can work.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Good day today! Gave plasma at 10:30 then off to lunch with Bertie and we both got manicures. Then a hop to Sam's Club. Bill called and said we're about to get pounded with rain. I said oh, good! He said you have mushrooms sitting out...shoot! Took Bertie home and them came home and got all 26 mushrooms and stems into the shed before the rain hit. We had a HARD rain. I checked the rain gauge after it passed and we got an inch. YAY! Still supposed to get more after midnight.

I distressed 26 mushrooms and stems and now I'm about to hit the couch for Wheel of Fortune!

Tomorrow afternoon Bryn and Emma are coming over and spending the night. Have to see what kind of trouble we can get into!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Bob & I are going for pizza dinner and a tour of a brewery tonight - I was given a coupon for free, for the two of us. It's a Micro Brewery - Minhaus. First pizza, then 3/4 of an hour tour at 7pm. 2 free beer mugs, and 2x 3 samples of their beer!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Almost bedtime isn't it.

Joyce omg would all the mushrooms have been ruined, are they not set enough to have survived sitting out. We all must be sharing Isaac tonight! Has stopped raining for now, not sure how much we got but a substantial amount for sure.

You will soon get called the "mushroom lady" say hi to Bertie for me..haven't lit that gorgeous candle she sent, much too pretty, besides want my ashes in the container..

Susan, you are making great headway, you sure both deserve pizza. Don't come home with a hangover or Bob will never get the project worked on tomorrow..lol

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All ;

Susan - is a chinook like a warm wind ?

Yes Betty LOL got to stand up to a Bully I am learning. Thought about you as always today. DS mowed the whole lawn... first time mowed since Isaac and it was bad. I soaked those coolers in ice water in the outside frig... and brought him one. He LOVED it ! Can I wash in laundry? or do I just need to soak it in woolite ?

Marion - would like a piece of Kahlua cake please !

Hugs,
Mary
