DH asked what I want for my birthday....so I told him.

A gazebo with screens, a waterfall.....and a firepit.

hehehe we wasn't impressed.

Oh BJ, now that you have done that, going zip lining in Costa Rica will be a breeze!!! Yes, you can do it--if I did, so can you. LOL Ross used to go to Denver for meetings but I was never lucky enough to get to join him.....kids in school. Oh well, he did take me to Palestine with him so won't complain.

Send us some cooler weather please...miserable here. Kim (DD) and I were trying to stain and finish our new shelves in the kitchen but it was just so hot....took long for the stain and finish to dry not to mention our discomfort.

Off to the dentist this morning.

Sheesh... this hotel is confusing... lobby is on 1st floor, restaurant is on 2, coffee shop on 3...
Believe me, anything involving heights is not my thing... but Don kept telling me "it'll be ok"... and I kept gripping all the hand rails, and walls around me. AND, yes... in spite of the cool temps up there, and the gusts of wind... I did break out into a sweet a time or two.

LK, we did drive through Canon City to get to the gorge... but we didn't stop... and we didn't go into any of the restaurants at the gorge. Small world indeed.

LOL, Debbie... NUTS, maybe... but it was an adventure.
I'd love to have any kind of a water feature at my house... oh, wait... I live on a lake, guess that's a water feature. That's why Don keeps saying NO to building a pond. I would love to have a fire pit too... maybe someday. That was so nice sitting around Betty's fire pit with all of you after Judy's prayer fire.

BJ, since you already have "the pond" aka Lake...tell him you want a water wheel or fountain in it. Your saving him money by not having to put in a
pond!

Yes, sitting around that fire and being with friends...thats what brought it all together.

Absolutely NOT, Marion... no way... you will not ever catch me suspended from a wire, free falling to gawd knows where, above the trees. My sister and BIL, and Don want to go Zip Lining while there... And I told them to go right ahead... I'm sure I can entertain myself while they're gone.
Only two things I will do in Costa Rica that I've never done before is White Water Rafting, and sailing in the Pacific (never even been on a sail boat... so that's a first too)

While driving down I-25 yesterday toward Co City, we did see some of the burned mountain side. Off to our right, at a distance we saw the scorched trees, and the parts they bull dozed down to dirt to stop the fire before it reached heavily populated communities. It was a devastating site for miles and miles. I know what we could see from the highway was only a piddling of what all burned...

Betty, most of the buildings at Nottoway have been refurbished over the years, but the House, overseer's cottage and other parts are original. The "cottages" across the back are all refurbished slave quarters. Here is some info on the others.

Mary...oh golly, sure do love hearing those "ghost" stories. Good heavens, Breenies BF, came running up the stairs, I mean Zooming, lol...said he saw someone down there!! Asked him if he told it to finish the laundry, lol.
But really, it could have been Bear, I've smelled her down there before...We used to hang out at the bar, playing scrabble!! And there is an indelible scrabble marked into the bar, have no idea how it got there!! will see if I can get a picture of it for you.

Well, i have been working and i am working today!! You guys would just roll...Before we left, i had been yanking weeds from the front beds...Told DH, it's not going to do any good unless we get the weed cloth down and some mulch...said your going to be paying me to yank them out again and again. So when he got back he says, I don't get why these weeds keep growing!! LOL...Anyway, yesterday he goes to get weed cloth and mulch, yippy. Spent about t 2 hours pulling the weeds again..then laid down the cloth and the much, ohh how pretty it looks already!! Today I am planting two trees. And laying down the cloth/mulch on the other side... ok well time for our toast and then have to scoot!

Fire and Water ban on in town, with no signs of rain for the next week or two imagine they will not take it off.

This morning I was up and at it, found a few boxes and picked up the plastic/burnt containers that Judy and Joanna so kindly cleared from the fire pit..now at roadside for pick up. You know, think it's only 2nd or 3rd times since I dig the pit that I've actually had a fire with people sitting around it..never anyone late at night to have a fire with..must do again. If I do I'll make sure NOT to buy toilet paper roll size marshmallows!!! You all should have been eating them, I'm almost through the bag and it's not good for my waist..maybe that's why you all left them with me lol

Debbie, some weekend I'll come and we can make a little pond, doesn't have to be big, just something to hear the water fall..at the Garden Center some times they have the rubber liner for almost nothing seeing as they cut for clients and then have piece left over..I'll keep a lookout. Now is a great time to buy a gazebo, they are almost giving them away just so they do not have to store them for the winter..so, you might just be in luck, put your birthday wants on the refrigerator or drop hints, surely between all the kids a gazebo could be in your back yard...or the girls could chip in on gas and bring you to the Elvis Convention..gas wouldn't cost more than $100 for all to come..lol I know, you want a gazebo!!! hope you get one. Would you sit in it though???

B.J. doesn't White Water Rafting have some drops that are quite high? Kudos to you for trying such things, they say Lord hates a coward so you must be high on his list of likes..

Betty, Paul said no pond. He wants to move...put house up for sale, AND he said he will at the new house. Too much he has to "dig up and move with us" as it is.

Hairdresser #1 is booked. Horrible when I make up my mind I want it NOW or I change mind yet again. lol

Perhaps I should just buy some more hairclips until I make up my mind. lol

Todd's hearing is about the same, we are always asking each other, what did you say??? Guess my hearing is getting bad too, I think I inherited it from my Dad!

Betty, I am southeast of Baton Rouge, just a short distance across the parish line in the northeastern part of Ascension parish, just under an hour from New Orleans and about 30 minutes from downtown Baton Rouge.

Come on BJ----I did it and so can you...zipline that is. Loads of fun and besides the guides that assist happen to be exceptional "eye candy" and ever so nice! LOL

Seeing the effects of the fires must have been awful! I can only imagine what it looks like and what those people are dealing with now. Yes, Betty the group "in the other house" stays very busy with projects. I have enjoy doing some of them.

To funny Debbie, now just why shouldn't everyone be ready when we get the urge to do something different? I have never understood that myself.

I live on a lake also and frequently find myself wanting a pond but nope...not to be! To many restrictions about features around the lake so I have to settle with my dock. The current dock was built using post into the water for support; however, if it goes then we have to have the next one done cantilever. Curious how much that will cost...oh well, for the future I hope.

Think I will go rest awhile as my mouth is now getting feeling in it and it hurts. Dentist had some trouble getting temp crown off ...yuck!

Packing my bags and going to Costa Rica to zip line with eye candy. Yeah baby! Just make sure my feet don't leave the ground. O:)

Debbie that would be some feat---feet not to leave the ground. When are you ready to leave? My daughter and I are always ready...besides she is an excellent translator is needed. Not often but has come in handy in the past. LOL

45 minutes left to the work day..been a long one. Sorry girls, I like eye candy with the best of them but NOT enough to get me anywhere higher than 5ft but a the Costa Rica trip sounds wonderful!!

Marion, Suzanne and I both bored checking on the map, almost decided it would be worth an extra 5 - 6 hour drive to go across panhandle spend a night on our way home then take I75..been looking at hotels on Gulf Breeze..who knows where we two will end up..laughing away likely we'll be back for 9am on the Monday morning and coming directly to the office..fun dreaming and planning regardless what plans we actually do make..

LOL, Marion... then you and Kim and Debbie just come on ahead and you can take my place on the high wire... I'll just look at the eye candy, and leave to look at the sights... the ones on the ground.

Betty... you can always detour your way into Texas... we're just 3 hours from Shreveport, then a good day's drive down to New Orleans. You're always welcome at my house... and would love to have you... even just a night, if that's all you can spare.

I heard something disturbing today... I'm not real sure what I think about it yet.
Year before last, one employee didn't come to the get together because he had company at his house, and wouldn't change his plans. Before the year was out, he didn't work for the company any more. Last year, 2 of the wives didn't come, just because they didn't want to. Neither of those men work for the company any longer. All that is said is that "they are working for another company now"... I had no idea how important this trip is to Don... even though I really enjoy making this trip with him every year... it sounds like a lot of pressure to me.

Don's meeting was over 1 1/2 hours ago... guess I need to go find him... better check out the bar... (hahaha)
Party is in an hour, and he has to change...

Betty - don't stay in Gulf Breeze ! Too many area beachside spots you could stop at... probably 4 hours from New Orleans to Ft Walton / Destin and stay somewhere you can watch the beach from your balcony. That's a drive I know like the back of my hand ! LOL.... it's 300 miles / 5 1/2 hours from Baton Rouge

Yes the Ghosts are so interesting ! The Myrtles story is fascinating.

Grandma and grandson doing fine..dropped in at 6:30pm, got my onstar working, sinked my cel phone (Jeff will be happy) then registered the onstar phone, bought me 300 minutes just incase, registered satelite radio, all to technical for me. He stayed while Ann and I played bingo, no winnings, was down to one number though, when Ann left told him to take me for a drive, holly wahhh 45 minute drive..did well..think I'd best check tomorrow to see if he's covered under my policy..am sure he is but best I check to make sure.

B.J. Surely that is just a coincidence that in this day and age a company could dismiss staff because of. Not attending yearly meeting? Bet you are and Don are dancing up a storm, know you like dancing lol. Hope no hangover tomorrow!

Mary, in some ways it is easier, in others, not. She never can handle finances on own, needs help with that aka the bank of mom and dad. She can't keep a job, has had four jobs in the last six months. It is not easy....but when I think of it I do have some peace with her being at her apartment. As I say that...my text message on phone just went off....and I know it is her needing something. More than anything, she is just lonely

Debbie - s'ok if your Child is lonely......... we all go through those times. It's only sad when she feels she needs to Get something in order to stop the loneliness.......

Yes, a bit of a routine, but still want to learn more about the job. Darla's saying that my work is good, and that I do everything that is asked of me (as of day 5 working there........). That's After I left after evacuation lol
People are stopping me to say "hi - how are you doing". Just wish someone would have lunch with me - it's kinda lonely, BUT I did walk down and then up the stairs at lunch - great exercise for 8 floors....... Going UP was tough - could only do 4 flights, then 2, then 1.......... until I got to the 8th floor where I work (penthouse floor LOL)

Susan, yes I ziplined when I was in Costa Rica in 2007...and did the Trazan swing..no biggie...just fun!

Party's over... And, I had to have the bartenders cut Don off.. he is so embarrassing to me when he's drunk.
He get's very animated with his arms, and gets louder with every drink. ugh. I drove back to the hotel and he fussed the whole way.. not at me, but at the traffic. I finally had to tell him to "take a pill and settle down"... So now he's down at the bar, overwhelming all his cronies... and I escaped up to the room. We go through this every year... but tomorrow, he'll be so sweet and loving toward me.. he'll be dripping with honey. LOL and I'll be using it for all it's worth.
He doesn't drink like this usually... only when he gets together with all these guys.

Was really good to meet up with all the wives I haven't seen since last year. And was good to meet the wives of some of the new employees.
I think maybe it's a coincidence too... because I did hear tonight of some employees that have left the company who were here last year. So, probably not a concern at all.

Well, guess I better get down there and rescue the others by dragging Don upstairs. I'm really glad this only happens once a year.

BJ - you're a really good wife to Don - I'm sure I'd be a little more sarcastic than you obviously are.........

B.J. Lol men have to unwind some time, this is Dawn's tme! Would mage all the men at the get away are dong the same. Roger would get so loving when he had a few drinks, as long as he would stay away from the 'rum'. Rum and he didn't do well, he'd be argumentative. Grrrr. So as the years went by and he realized this he would never drink rum, thank goodness! All and all, you are having a great time, soon time to head back?

Marion, it is a big think..I'm adventurous in many ways but nothing such as being a daredevil!

Susan, do the girls go home for lunch or on errands? Surely they do not all head out together and not ask you to join them...If they do this then it means they've done it and are doing it to the last girl before you, she might like being asked to lunch as she understands the loneliness of being the 'new' employee.

As for ear wax, as Rec coordinator I arranged a wellsome clinic and ear waxing was one of the cubicles..I was asked to be a participant, as far as I knew NO wax in my ear but Lordy talk about wax she removed , I could not believe it..did hear much better afterwards..you don't hear of that service much anymore..will have to research who does it in my area!

I'm here Betty. And I'm doing the very happy happy happy dance. My surgery is one week from tomorrow!!!!!!!! The 19th!!!!!!! Of July!!!!!! I am so thrilled to know that it will soon be done. I'm not going to post much today as I have a list of stuff I want done before then. I've waited so long and put things off and now I don't have much time left at all!!!! I had a choice of next Thursday or sometime the end of August! No more waiting for me........

What fantastic news Barb, no wonder you are doing the happy dance..will let Ann know as she's been asking! Then back to the land of the living for you (and Norm)!

how Long did they say you would be hospitalized?? guess that doesn't matter at this point, you just want it behind you..almost a full year..

You have that right Betty!!! I don't know how long I'll be in the hospital. If they can do it with lapriscopy, I will stay in overnight so they can keep a watch on my breathing. If they have to cut, then I don't know how long I will be there. And I won't know what they did till it is over!!!!!! Rushing now to get things done here......

So, i have been crazy busy since we've returned. If not home working on general house stuff, im at Huber working the landscape. Oh but it is finally looking like something!! Yesterday decided to mulch the other side of walkway. Thought it would sorta tie the whole front enterance together. Wow what a differance! Lol the neighbor came out and complimented my work. Awe she said she has never seen the front look so good, also that i worm with such enthuziasm! Told her, i just love to landscape and garden. Lol said could tell. Ah but not only am i filthy dirty but so exhausted by time i shower & eat faall right to sleep @ 9 930!! So its back at it right after my egg salad for breakfast...

Lol betty forgot about my eggs boiling!
