Sorry for the disappearing act yesterday. Did talk to Sis Kathy while on the road, told her that if she's deep in alligators, make alligator shoes. She's a rough and tough country gal, I'm sure she can handle them gators!!

There were intermittent thunderstorms, with one that lasted 45 minutes, causing havoc to anything turned on!! My garden is singing this morning! Don't have to water for at least a week, unless we return to triple digit heat.

Barb, I sure hope that it won't take 2 - 3 months for recuperation time, as the doctors had told you. I'm praying for 6 weeks for you, and may the weather too in August be not too hot as it would be here.
I have the utmost faith that you won't need a bell, as Norm is such a sweet DH and will see to it that you'd be comfortable while healing.

Thank you for posting those pics, Sue. 2014 at your place? WOW!!! Then I truly have to do a double savings plan!!
Why oh why can't we just live closer and airfare wouldn't be so atrocious!!
You enjoy your visit with Cookie and Bertie! Give them armwraps from us please!

Marion, how's the cruds?

Guten morgan sistahs. Don't know if that's German for good morning, just guessing!! Lolol.
It's vege omelettes this morning. I grilled the mushrooms, onions and peppers first before folding them in the omelette.

Think today, I'll be dusting off the sewing machine!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, glorious day in my neighborhood, high 70's, breeze, perfect!!!

Loved the photo's Sue, pretty young woman!!!

Ooooh hope Joyce remembers your Memorial Garden piece...ahhhh you are only a days ride from me, easy peasy to drive..2014 on my calendar..how will you survice the gathering when you got so excited just talking about it and couldn't sleep..lol

Shouting out to my girls from a wet and cool Denver, CO.
Don drove me up to the top of a mountain yesterday, so we could walk across the highest suspension bridge in the world and look down at Royal Gorge. I was really brave, given my fear of heights. I even got on the aerial tram that suspended us on only a wire and took across the gorge... that's as close to zip lining as I ever want to come. I even got on the incline railway with him that took us down to the bottom of the gorge... 1550 feet, at a 45 degree angle. I must love him a lot... or he must really love to torcher me. Either way... I did enjoy the afternoon, and I did survive it.
Was dead tired when we got to the hotel last night, and was asleep by 8pm... up at 5am... and here it is 7:00 and Don's still asleep. He has a 1pm meeting today, so I suppose I'll hook up with some of the wives and see what they have planned for the rest of our stay. The big company party is tonight... so, I suppose I will need a nap sometime.
Will try to check in from time to time... love you all.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Thanks for the breakfast Jaye!
Not too bad here this morning, 79 degree's with 87% humidity, and 50% chance of showers. Sure hope they make it this far, and not come in then split and go around us!
I will be sewing also, getting a charity box ready for the fire victims in Colorado. A lady is collecting any and all fabric and batting to make as much as she can for over 300 homes that were destroyed in the fires in Colorado ...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

BJ, you were so close to my Brother, he lives in Canyon City. It is a beautiful place. We drove down and saw it from the car only, I refused to cross it! Love the mountain views too, so pretty! Enjoy your visit, will be waiting to see what you ladies do today!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the omelette ..my favorite kind. Crud is much better thank goodness. Off to the dentist this morning to have the permanent crown put in...will be so glad to get this temp out!!

Kim and I stained the new shelves in the kitchen yesterday. Still have more to do as it was just to hot to work outside and it took forever for them to dry. Looking good I must say......funny how something so simple as more shelves can make a kitchen more workable!!!

Plan to go south tomorrow to see Mom. She was hospitalized over the weekend with another blood issue....but was told to stay put by my sister. Seems it is a sinus infection and irritation from the oxygen tube. Moved her back to the nursing home yesterday and according to Sue, she was resting comfortably. It is home to here now. I haven't told them we are coming as both of them are such worry warts and I don't need the constantly calling while on the road.

Back later...off for fun?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Drive safely Marion!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Waving here Betty! Still walking the rooms and missing your sistahs' voices? That's what good friends do to you. Make you wish they're easily accessible!

BJ, you just got back from Betty's and now you're off to Denver!! Goodness, I think it's your love for Don that makes you willing to face your fear!! Have more fun!

Let Kim drive please, Marion. Wise of you to surprise your sister. Sending prayers here for your mum. Hope Sue will be very nice to you and not try to lay on the guilt, thick.

LK, I see that she's getting more than 29!!! If you have her addy, can you dmail me please. Maybe I can help.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LK... I posted my response on the wrong thread... this can get confusing.
We did drive through Canon City, but didn't stop... and we didn't go into any of the restaurants. If I had known before hand, I would have made an effort to stop and give hugs for you.

Jaye... I know, right? I sit home most of my life... and now, all of a sudden... two trips in the same month. I will need to rest up after this though. I'm feeling my age about now. But, only the trip to Betty's house was added extra... we do come to Denver every July for this company get together... can't pass up a paid vacation, ya know.

Woo Hoo... Sue's house in 2014... yippie.
Looking forward to Marions next year too...

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I recall one year, when in Denver... you posted a pic of you and another lady, standing close to the edge of a cliff!! Looks like you keep going back for more fun or just making sure that bravery was real!!
Do you have a bucket list that includes Mt. Everest by the way?

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Jaye... that pic was taken about 50 yards from the edge... we were standing on a big boulder... it just looked like a cliff in the pic... but it did make me look brave, huh?
NO.. on the Mt Everest... that would just be so wrong for me, and several levels.

BTW... I did get in touch with my dentist yesterday while on the mountain... surgery is rescheduled to accommodate MIL visit. Am really afraid that if the cooking were left to Don while she's here, she might go home with food poisoning. Wouldn't want that to happen. I love my MIL, and haven't seen her in a long time, and I want to enjoy her visit too... so surgery is now scheduled for the 24th.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

so glad you'll be able to enjoy your MIL's visit, BJ!! Nice that they rescheduled the surgery for you!

Got to 89F here today........ sweat dripping down my face..... just not used to the heat anymore, I guess. Used to get up to 102F in Wpg....... wonder if I could handle that anymore.....?! Glad it's cooler than it's been - supposed to possibly rain tonight?!?!

Marion - I agree - good idea not to let them know you're coming. Hopefully it will be a nice surprise all round. I also agree that Kim should drive. You'll be on pins and needles.........

Believe it or not, our Mayor went Zip Lining at the Stampede today!! He's the youngest mayor we've had in Calgary, I think...... So, BJ - if our mayor can do it....... lol

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning ladies, the forecast for today is more thunderstorms and a definitely agreeable temp of 80.

It's such a welcome break from the heat, that for this morning's fare, it's Chinese breakfast of fried rice with ham and eggs. If it's good enough for my family, it's good enough for my sistahs! Hope you can handle eating with chopsticks.
Beverage will be cold soy bean milk :D

Need prayers for Kel's friend who got into a bad accident. His name is Justin Franks, a firefighter, and is lucky to survive the accident, but broke his limbs.
We had to be at the beach yesterday, and each turn we make, there were first response units. Many careless drivers who don't respect the rains.
Each time, we see an ambulance, we said prayers for the 'passengers'.

Have a wonderful day sistahs. I'll be heading for town!

BJ, we know better than that!! Don is smart enough to follow good recipes, moreover, there are lots of liquid sustenance in your special pantry!! Lol!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone!
Saying prayers for Frank, as well as Sue as she goes to court today!
Thanks for the breakfast Jaye!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Prayers for Frank and Sue

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm so glad the Sistah Shawl made it to Sue in time. Now she will truly know that we are with her and that we are holding her close. Prayers for her peace of mind....

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Prayers said for Frank & Sue........

Our internet provider is also our phone provider, and they had a fire in one of their transformers this afternoon - causing us to lose internet & phone for a bit. Then the internet came back (that's when I last posted) but our phone didn't - Bob was under the desk trying to get it sorted......... Well, we have our phone back, and the cables are all sorted again - drives him nuts, but I think we have cable gremlins!! I don't do anything with the cables, but everytime he has to get the phone or 'net back up, they're all tangled again!!

it was 93F / 34c today........... hot hot hot hot hot........

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone..
breakfast is ready. Juice and fresh fruits this morning. Blueberries, melon and whip cream on top.

Was in bed after Kel left for work yesterday evening, woke up at 1 and then right to bed after feeding my stomach. Thought that maybe the tiredness is from previous days' heat.
This morning, I started throwing up. Just hope it's not a virus.

Have a better day than me ladies.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry your not feeling well Jaye! Get some rest.
Susan, glad to hear you got your Internet and phone working again.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Hello Ladies,

Been busy here with family. Had a b-day party for Taylor last night. Took her shopping, let her pick out clothes and sandals.

We have a huge fire going on, started yesterday afternoon, some one playing with fireworks. Fireworks are banned in this county so you know whoever it was is going to be paying big time for this. When I got up at 6 this morning to take Harlee out potty the smoke was so thick all around us.

Started sewing on my blouse Tuesday, got the back sewed together but haven't touched it since been too busy with other things, might be able to get back to it today.

Susan you think it's hot where you are..............102 here yesterday and again today...................Marysville where I live 107 yesterday 105 today. It has been in the triple digits since Monday, suppose to start going down by Saturday.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I though Northern California was a lot cooler then down here in So. Ca., but not according to Cindy. We haven't hit the triple digits yet, and hoping we never do. Some places are extra hot like Palm Springs and of course the dessert.

Had to stop in the Habitat for Humanity again and look around. It is partly a thrift store, which are some of my favorite places. But then thrift stores are becoming expensive too. At my favorite one I see the prices going up too.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Same here Pegi, thrift shops in San Antonio are very pricey!
Cindy, what kind of blouse are you making?
Happy Birthday to Taylor!
Sure hope they find the one responsible for playing with fireworks!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

We are close to the valley and it gets really warm here a lot. But it is suppose to start cooling down to about the mid 90's but it changes everyday so we will see.

Yes Pegi, thrift stores are getting pricey. Stopped at Goodwill to look for more vases to make totem bird bath. HOLY COW $10 for a vase with 3 cracks on the base and a chip off the rim. I wanted it sooooo bad too it was perfect but not for that price. Will stop in 2morrow see if it's still there then haggle with the manager. I use to be asst. Manager at this Goodwill back in "97-98" and I always gave my regular customers good deals. What the heck Goodwill got it free in the first place. I did find another vase that was in good condition for $4 and a tea pot for $5.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

LK, it is a sleeveless stretchy knit, snags really easy too :( so far ok. This fabric was used on Project Runway (the show which I never watch) and was 60% off. Will post a pic when I'm done. Putting the facing in the neck now, but need to take a break my neck is hurting. Can't sit and sew as long as I used too. So it takes me a few days to make one blouse, lol.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Sorry for all those suffering from the heat........ but the good thing of it is, we're not Freezing! AND we can grow stuff (we are DG'ers after all LOL)

$10!!!!!!!! Highway robbery....... yes, some stores are charging "an arm and a leg". Those are the ones I don't frequent, cuz they're usually paying the high overhead with most of the $$ and very little actually going to the charity they support.........

Did I ever tell you I work near "another" MacKenzie at the company?
NOW - mentioning that "other' MacKenzie - here's a funny for ya! 1. She & I spell our last name the same (NOT McKenzie - don't forget, we need the "a" eh?! lol) 2. She lived in Winnipeg same time as I, 3. Is a MacKenzie by marriage. 4. Works about 10 ft from me and is also an EA (Executive Assistant) 5. born in the same decade. Here's the "kicker" - 6. her middle name is Joan, same as mine!! Talk about coincidences!!! She & I are both flabbergasted by this!! Dare I say we're both brunettes? LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That is a lot of coincidences.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

funny, eh? lol

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

We got a little rain this evening, what a surprise!. It wasn't much rain, but I did set some house plants on top of the fence for a little shower. Don't know if we will get more or not, but sure hope so. My plants will be so happy.

I often wonder what is wrong with the gals who put prices on items in thrift stores. If something is broken or chipped I think it is destined for the trash. Then I do find some items that are priced low like a One-Touch can opener. It was marked $1.91 and the cutting wheel looked so clean that I don't believe it was ever used. The batteries were still in it and when I got home I found out they were still good. I bought one at Wal-Mart a few years ago and believe I paid $18.00. Also bought a brand new toaster, wide enough for bagels too, for $9.09, I'm sure it was never used. I also got 20% off my purchases.

Well, I thought Big Brother came on at 8 PM, but not till nine so that gives me a little time on the computer.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Just popping in to say I'm home again. Been feeling a bit poorly all day, but I usually do after being gone. I really need to feel better tomorrow, because MIL coming for a visit on Sunday... and I really need to get some cleaning done.

Night Night, folks.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning sistahs.
Feeling poorly here too but somewhat an improved poorly.
Ground's wet, plants are happy, another day of expected rains.

The Salvation Army/Goodwill stores over here have very slim selections.
We saw a collectible lamp in a box, in the foyer of a store, that one donor had mistakenly dropped off.
When we asked a worker how much it would cost, he said that the manager had to go through them and she'll decide whether to keep it for the store or send it off. I wonder what sending it off meant.. he won't say :D
But I found out from a friend who's a thrift store addict that the good ones are auctioned off online or advertised on Craigslist.
Like this here

I'm off to the doctor's in a couple hours. Hate to hear what he'd say this time.

Breakfast for this morning is nothing fancy. Plain scrambled eggs, sausage and toasts.

Have a restful and cool Friday sistahs.

ETA: It's Friday the 13th!!
Definitely wishing all NO bad luck!!!

Good Morning Ladies,

Fire still really bad here. Some friend's are on alert to evac. Not too much smoke around us but other areas it's really smoky. Temps are down to high 90's a relief after 4 days of triples. Will be going home tonight, hope Doug has the house cool, lol.

Happy Friday 13th....................... I never let them bother me

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Friday the 13th is luck for both of us, as Todd and I were both born on the 13th!
Sorry your not feeling well Jaye, get some rest, and hope your feeling better soon!
Todd is diabetic, and had to go for an eye exam this morning, $366.00 just for the exam, and $256.00 for new glasses! Very pricey morning for us!!!

Sue, how did court go on Wed.?

Bj, are you rested and feeling better? How was your trip? Pictures?
