Coffee Break # 82

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Sorry, Harper, I'm to far away. Besides, I'm having a daylily sale and open gardens on the 7th and my RU on the 8th. I'll be busy.

Oh, that sounds awful, Allison! Glad you have the boot for this one and that you sleep better tonight.

I think the key for our lonnng trip last year on the road was to be flexible, not having a set itinerary, having an iPad to check motel availability when we were thinking of stopping, not feeling the need to fill every moment with conversation. We did stay 3 weeks in Oregon with our son and a week in Michigan. Oh, and seeing DGers in the PNW which was cool. Oh and switching driving every 150 miles or so. That way I didn't get cranky from driving all day. I really do like to drive, but sometimes I get stubborn and don't like to give up the wheel. Heehee. Then no one is happy. So, I decided to 'share' the driving and it made for a nicer trip. Can you imagine I get cranky?

Thankfully the girls are good travelers. This country is quite spectacular!

I hope he likes camping. I notice that the stones are clear.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

no choice but to like camping if you're a Marine

Clear stones?

South Hamilton, MA

some are set to the side in the photo. Bertter than sleeping on them.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow. Hope he comes home soon.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Bummer of a bed, Jen! Has he come across any camel spiders? Don't know if they have those in Afghanistan. I know they have them in Iraq. They are really creepy looking. Not true spiders, but in the same family. They have 10 legs, big jaws and 2 eyes (spiders have 8 eyes). The 2 legs in front are not true legs but rather feelers.

Horrible local story. West Pt. grad from '10 landed in Afghanistan this past Sunday. On Wed he was killed by an IED.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Very sad, Victor. I saw a military man tonight surprise his girlfriend, who works at a local DQ. I was there with Gretchen and my Dad. She was so happy to see him. He had a big bouquet of roses and such.

Jen, sounds like that person from Clearwater, FL in the poll thread is a very unhappy person. She's quite rude. She sounds like she's very unhappy with her life.

I know!...just because she ended up with rotten neighbors don't go dissing the whole state of NJ

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Sad story Victor I hate to read that.
We found out last night my niece/God-daughter who lives in Tennessee is expecting, her second!! I'm so happy for her and my sister who just got done her chemo treatments. My nephew in law is in the special forces so hopefully he will be home for the birth.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Does everyone get teary when you hear/sing the Star Spangled Banner and all of the wonderful patriotic songs? I embarrass myself and then can't stop sniffling. :)

Thomaston, CT

Hope & pray that these soldiers will be home soon....awful conditions there.....very interesting obit, Victor, I enjoyed reading it....should be made into a book! Good luck with the sale, Harper....Louise, have fun with those grandies, Jan, a safe & happy trip for your family...Allison, am thinking about how painful that ankle must be...take care! Heading to my cousin Jim's today for the annual 4th picnic...will be very hot & humid, but the house has a/c, so I'll probably hang out in there with my Mom.....Yes, Louise, gets worse with age!

Yes, wishing they all come home real soon.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

will do Celeste
I thought he was supposed to be home in June but guess not
Yes Louise, even at ball games when they play the national anthem I get teary eyed and at all troop home comings and, of course, deployments
I was reading a mystery book that was talking about a battalion coming home and I was teary eyed just reading the fictional account

Our town is having a parade on the 4th honoring all the homecoming troops

Great news Ronnie

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thank you, RD

I get teary very easily and appreciate the effort of all our military.

South Hamilton, MA

I dislike the anthem at ballgaames. You know why? People don't respect it. Listen when it starts
'In the land of the free' yells & screams So you don't hear
'and the home of the brave'. I had to get after a guy banging a cowbell at a high school football game. 'I'm cheering the team' he said. I told him to cheer the team after the anthem has finished. He had no idea of the anthem. Many people at ballparks are the same.

The menu was set, the parrot was ready for his nap, my nephew was churning out margaritas, the kids were having fun in the kiddy pools & with bubbles, when.......ouch! Last photos of my cousins & family members happy there wasn't more damage.....all the cars were dinged, one had a cracked windshield, but it wasn't mine!

wow - off line a couple days and lot's going on!

only one i can comment on is what time do you want us to be there Celeste?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Want to carpool, Bill? :)

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, freaky camel spiders! Yikes! I think I would freak out if I saw anything like that in my house or gardens.

Wow! Sorry to hear about the damaging hail, Marilyn. I would have been worried not just about my car, but about my daylilies and hostas, etc.

Karen

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow that's crazy RD

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Looks like a great time at your cousin's party, Marilyn. That hale can do a lot of damage. Glad nothing was destroyed. The photos are really nice!

We are sitting out on the front porch now, and it is so lovely to listen to the birds and look at the flowers bursting into bloom. Daylilies, Lord Cornwallis, Red Rum and Wayside Royale (both from Celeste...thank you very much!) and Blackeyed Stella and Little Wine Cups are the first to bloom besides the Stellas and orange guys. Wayside has about 15 blooms on it, but only one has opened. The astilbe are going crazy this year. Allison, Randy's pink one is about to pop too. Thanks formthat lovely one as well. This is the first year my Fama Blue Scabiosa has done much. I LOVE the shade of blue.

Hope you are all enjoying your summer evening!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Sounds nice at your place, Marilyn. My place is bursting with blooms as well. There's so much going on out there.

I don't know what it was like at the rest of you guys places, but here it was just so hot and humid, I could barely stand it. I got nothing done in the gardens. Went out to take pics, and we got a thunderstorm. Rain chased me in. Clear out there now.

I need to spray Liquid Fence, which I just picked up today. $45!!!!! Yikes! I deer was spotted in my gardens this morning. Need to make sure it doesn't go munching on my daylily buffet. I was going to spray after I got home from running around this today, but the rain came, so I couldn't. Now I don't have time to spray before going to work tonight. I hope you guys will pray for me that the deer doesn't come in and eat up all the buds. So far it's only been dining on weeds. It can have all the weeds it wants.

louise we are in:)

Looks like a great time, Robin...well except for the hail

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Love the menu Robin but not the hail!!

Today is DD's Tiffany's Birthday, she's 33. :)

Your DD's birthdays are close...good for parties! Happy, happy for Tiffany.....the storm caused a lot of damage, many trees were down....one pine landed on my brother's roof...don't know if there's any structural damage, the tree is being removed this morning...he was out of power until midnight....my SIL's twin owned the car with the cracked windshield, & when they got home, the west facing screens were all ripped on their house.....the local tv stations said Watertown was the area hardest hit, and I believe it....still cannot get over the sound & sight of that hail pounding just everything in sight!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

geez

Happy b-day Tiffany!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Wow Marylin that stinks ): Hope there isn't too much damage.
I haven't seen hail in quite a while.

Happy Birthday to Tiffany!

Thomaston, CT

No, no damage here in my town, Ronnie.....

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Happy Birthday to Tiffany, Celeste!

Sounds like it was a really bad storm, Marilyn. Good no one got hurt, though.

My daylilies have remained safe from the deer so far. Still praying that it (or they) will leave them alone. I've noticed plenty of weeds munched. That's fine. Tomorrow morning I will get all my gardens sprayed with that Liquid Fence. Didn't have time today.

This morning I went to a meeting at the nursing home. We have decided Dad will be staying there. It will just be too much for us to take care of him, as he needs 24 hour supervision. He seems to like it there now, though, and really doesn't ask about going home anymore.

Karen

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

hope all goes well for you and Dad, Karen.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Good luck with your dad Karen I know that's a hard decision to have to make :(

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Good luck Karen, rest easy knowing he's happy there. :)
