Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Bill is having his Caladium sale again. Biggest bullbs I've ever seen in past years.

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1265034/

I'd like to choose at least 4 varieties, but I don't need 10 of each. Anyone want to split an order? I'll either bring them to a swap or have a little get together here again in spring.

A guy in Rockland was selling some bonsai because he is moving to Florida. Got a Pinus parviflora (cultivar unknown) and a hornbeam (species unknown). Pretty happy to get these!

Nice! Keep saying I want to start with Bonsai but never do.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

really nice!!

I assume rockland, ME

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Love #3

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Love that primula!

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Jen, will it be too late to order them in June when Bluestone has their 50 percent off sale?

Norridgewock, ME(Zone 5a)

Primula is beautiful, the bergenia I had never heard of, looks very useful.

Bill, Rockland ME is almost two hours from here--it seems like everywhere I want to go is almost two hours...

Victor, don't wait until you are in your 60's like I did to get started--this hobby takes time! Despite reading dozens of books on it, I feel like I have no clue what to do, but so far I've at least managed not to kill any of my bonsai trees.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nice find, really like Pinus

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Other years Bluestone had a winter sale on spring plants, but I don't see any discounts yet. I want every one of their hellebores, and I did plant Amber Gem two years ago. It is a pretty big one. Maybe later I can post its photo.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

So far these are their only specials:

http://www.bluestoneperennials.com/specials.html

But in late spring they have their 50 percent off everything.

(Santa Rosa is really the best place for discount plants. They have sales all spring and summer and send wonderfully healthy packaged plants)

Thomaston, CT

Would like to see the hornbeam when it has leaves, GG....I'm not a good indoor plant person, I would neglect my bonsai....Jen, I had that bergenia circled in my catalog....loved the hydrangeas, but I'm very bummed after freezing fog killled all the buds on my 5 hydrangeas last spring.....I also loved the apricot primula, but I bought a lot at WFF's 70% off sale in June.....want to see what colors they are.....

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

I'll be watching for the WFF sale in June, Robin. Thanks for the heads up.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Robin any problems with WFF? I haven't heard many favorable things about them

Bluestone did email me some coupons
$2 off holiday bulbs
free surprise plant order over $50
$2.50 off a shrub
$2 off a proven winner
$2 off a new variety
$1.50 hellebores

if you want coupon codes dmail me

Thomaston, CT

I think the coupon code is in the catalog.....I may get some. No problems with WFF, because I go right to the nursery....the big 60-70% off sale is the Friday after Father's Day.....it was so mobbed in June, I had to park in the back pasture! Beefers were looking at me! But, the plants were amazing....the elephant ears were huge, I got a wonderful quince, clem, primulas, lily bulbs that were very cheap....I believe the sale is at the nursery only, not online, but worth the trip....most of the folks line up at 8, even though they open at 9, & go for the expensive stuff, like the huge terra cotta pots, & the trellises.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have never had a problem with WFF - they are just pricey without sales.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Jen, since you mention the Bluestone discounts, I have gone back and found the codes too.

Fingers are itching...so I did go check out American Meadows 50% off sale first for a small savings on a few garden stalwarts.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

www.rarefind.com

Rarefind nursery has free shipping until Dec 15!

I bought Edgeworthia chrysantha 'Akabana,' and also 'Snow Cream,' a culver's root, and evergreen azalea 'Ben Morrison'

I am also buying terrarium materials to make terrariums for gifts.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cool gift idea!

Thomaston, CT

Love that idea, Rosemary!

Norridgewock, ME(Zone 5a)

That link goes to a software company. You meant www.rarefindnursery.com I imagine

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Oops. Thanks for the correction.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Started shopping already...been wanting to buy some wind/noise breaking tree's for privacy line between this house, BIL house and our new one. :)

"Vanderwolf Pyramid Pine
"Variegated Black Spruce
"Oriental Spruce Gowdy
2 "Golden Oriental Spruce
"Japanese Snowbell"

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

All sound great.I love a natural divider.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I intend to add a Colorado Blue Spruce to that list. ^_^

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

love blue spuce - especially if they are trimmed back a bit to keep them full.

sound like you will need some fast growers there celeste.

need to look up your choices.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

back from my quick search.

Not a Pine fan although Vanderwolf with its blue/green color looks nice.

Variegated Black Spruce - or Picea Mariana Aureovariegata I have had for a few years in a container as it was a little guy at purchase - finally planted it out last year so hoping for some faster growth - another with blue/green coloring which I am a sucker for - real nice choice!

Oriental Spruce Gowdy looks a lot like my Picea Orientalis Aurea Spicata, the difference being how large they grow Gowdy gets big and Aurea Spicata only 6' tall - excellent choice its new growth is very bright yellow in spring and a very deep green the rest of the year, really stands out - my was a 4" at purchase and is now only 12" tall although planted out last year so it should grow faster.

Is the Golden Oriental Spruce the same as Skylands? Always wanted that one.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

My spree so far is a RosyDawn order in a "saved" cart because I am sure I'm not done.

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

I have a huge saved order at Bluestone, need to edit heavily before spring. Some will depend on how my perennial seeds come along. There are always at least a few surprises, some happy, some not so...

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I dont see anything out of the ordinary there Pat

Thomaston, CT

I'm still looking through catalogs....I know I'll order some dahlias, maybe a few lilies.....Pixie's evergreens sound really nice....
