Shopping spree #12
Great haul!!!
I think crimson butterflies is the guara I have.. I think .. love lucifer!!.. and if I am there again this year.. I am stealing a cutting of your cotton candy AGA.. LOL
How are the crapes? Which ones?
You can limp up here any time you want to.
Cross posted, Victor. So far I have gotten 2 Natchez, 2 Hopi, 2 Catawba, 2 White Chocolate, 2 Dynamite, and 2 Cedar Lane. The Hopi, Natchez, Catawba and Cedar Lane I will keep here (Zone 6) and the White Chocolate and Dynamite I gave to my daughter in Zone 7.
Have Hopi and it has done very well. Lost my White Chocolate (only crape I lost), but it did not get nearly enough sun.
Sounds like a nice group of plants, Terri.....I lost the only Crape I tried...now I have a lilac planted there.....
Victor, other than the Hopi, which of the Crape Myrtles are growing OK in zone 6. Most of them are marked for 7 and above, but that's not always the case.
Tuscarora, Sarah's Favorite are large ones doing well. Will have to check the names of the smaller ones.
Everyone get this email???
OWNERSHIP CHANGE
Dear Customers and Friends,
We are excited to announce that RareFind Nursery has been purchased! After Hank Schannen's death in 2009, it was his heirs desire to sell the nursery and property. It was important that we find a new owner who would share our vision and commitment to making RareFind Nursery better than ever.
Effective today, the new owner is Oliver LaFarge Hamill of Lawrenceville, NJ. Oliver is a long-standing customer of RareFind and is a self-described 'plant nut'. He's was a Landscape Architect and is a co-owner of Cherry Grove Farm of Lawrenceville, NJ. Cherry Grove Farm is a 400 acre certified organic, sustainable and diversified farm that produces handcrafted cheese, whey-fed pork, pasture raised chickens and grass-fed beef and lamb. (www.cherrygrovefarm.com)
We hope to make some changes that have been on hold since Hank's death, but do not anticipate changes in staff, products or service, except where improvement is needed!
Your past support has been critical to our survival during a difficult time and your future support is equally vital. Your comments and feedback are important to us- please let us know how we can improve!
Sincerely,
The Employees of RareFind Nursery

Yes.
got it too....thinking about applying to the new owner :)
Gotta say, Hank was a great guy. Very entertaining and informative.
Oh, I'm happy.....hope they prosper!
I need to go check out that cherry grove farm, you know I'm all about organic, some of their cheeses some wonderful!
Will try to support Rare Find because of all the great feedback. Just bought a bunch of pretty orange miniature roses to add to my new garden space. I had some reward points on my Amazon Card, to naturally they went into the garden.

Pretty color, RRR
Glad to hear it was bought by someone who loves gardening.
pretty Teri!!
I like that color....would look nice next to white & purple annuals.....
ooooo, pretty!!!!
Any suggestions for a fairly fast-growing evergreen for a slightly damp, partial shaded area? Zone 6.
Want something between David's bedroom window and the neighbors.
rhody?
How tall? Thugas grow like crazy but grow pretty tall.
How high do you need the screen? How much room will it have? Norway spruce grows pretty fast but gets big.
I did get him a rhody. It's probably only a 10 foot wide area, and there are some full grown trees nearby. So not too big, I should take a picture of the area.
Too small for Norway. A deodar cedar is a possibility. Mine have grown moderately fast. Pines in general grow pretty fast, but the are MUST be well drained and get at least half day sun.
saw that rarefind email - good news - have always been happy with them!
I'm so glad I'm close enough to visit them
Don't forget today (July 2) last day to take advantage of Brent and Becky's early order discount
I ordered
Lilium Forever Susan
Lilium Netty's Pride
Iris-Dwarf - histrioides 'George'
Tulipa - humilis 'Persian Pearl'
Narcissus - obvallaris
Narcissus - Curly Lace
Narcissus - Erlicheer
Narcissus - Saint Keverne
I shouldn't look!
Do they charge you now? I assume so.
Brent and Becky is extended to 7/3.
I was over at David's today, and it would be definitely shady and something less than 10 ft tall. Maybe not even evergreen, they can keep shades pulled in winter. There is a spruce tree in the front side yard, then about a 10 - 15 ft open area and then more trees and woods behind the house getting wider as they go back. Couple maples in the neighbors yard shade most of the area.
10% off to be charged now 5% charged later
lots of jm's would fit there debi
Yes, provided they buy a mature one. If you buy a small one that finally reached 10 ft, they will be waiting for years.
Thanks, Jen. (and Cathy!)
If Hollies don't need full sun, that could work too. Not sure about their sun needs tho.
Think I'll just take a look at Brent and Becky's.
Deciduous hollies, or winter berries, grow faster than evergreen varieties. Viburnum dentatum grow rather quickly and take part shade.
