Best/Worse/What did I learn today? chat with friends....

Lyndonville, NY

((((LIz)))))) We are going to have words woman! OOOHHHH steamed.....but I love you. Take care of yourself....so you can keep Kenny out of trouble

I did not know that Carol/FancyVan was ill...that breaks my heart. She has been so wonderful to me as a friend in the past.

We are watching the Wallenda walk.....and I am about to have a panic attack!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

She's had cancer for several years. In the fall she had a reocurrence and it grew very quickly.
Now she's resting comfortably, they said about 4 hours ago. They do not expect her to last the night however.
She's gone down very quickly over the past 2 weeks. 4 weeks ago she was only getting homecare once a week, then every day shortly after. She fell, and they've just admitted her to the Hospice. The nurse told me she's been falling alot. She's still with us, and I will call in the am to see how she is.....

Here's a picture of her with her prize winning peonies - last summer

betty, we told granny she said really then forgot the whole conversation
tomorrow i plan to sit in the sun for a while and finish reading the book mob daughter

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hi Liz - sorry I hadn't commented before on your post - Good For You, Girl! Give up the noxious weed (I did, 12 years ago, and feel so much "cleaner"!)
Reading takes your mind off things like (for me) binge eating, and smoking, so go for it!
If you find yourself craving, just come on here, and vent or something. We'll Be Here for you, anytime.
So glad you're back home! I'm sure your clogged arteries are why you had no energy. Great that you've gotten a 2nd chance too - it's a blessing in disguise, but so happy you're taking it seriously :-)

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

So many thoughts for everyone, I don't know where to begin....so....(((hugs))) for everyone!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, how is Carol doing?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Liz, so very glad you are well and safe. Heck of a wake-up call for sure. I know Judy was nearly beside herself...and that's an interesting picture...grin. Take care...one battle at a time...continued good thoughts to you.

Betty, hope Ann is recuperating from her accident as well as the fellow involved.

Dianne...hope you aren't hanging from the roof anymore and steering clear of those poles...hope Streak is continuing to do well.

Yup Mary...the toes will be webbed by the end of summer if this keeps up. So glad you had a good trip.

Grins and good thoughts to you all.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jean Ann was here for the afternoon and supper, she is sore in the hip , likely the airbag..she is quiet but was a chatter bug today, likely nerves!

I had my day all planned and didn't get any of it done except spaghetti sauce made and in the freezer for our gathering..you ask why, because normally I stick to a plan but not today.

Started to cut grass, Lordy it was hot so in my mind I figured out 8 sections, my goal was to do one section then sit for awhile, did one section, sat for 1/2 hr. did 2nd section and sat for awhile, made myself a sandwich, got some lemonade and made myself comfortable...no sooner did I sit did DIL Melanie drop in with a bag of foam and material..it's big object pickup and she found a bewaitiful heavy duty wicker settee but with no cushions..she had been to Fabricland and bought enough fabric except for pillows...

Ahhh you are making cushions? Going to try she said!!not quite sure where to start?? So before you knew it she was off to Barrie to look for coordinating fabric for pillows, decided that one should have cording..she had wonderful ideas when she got back. Lol

She, Ann and I chatted then Ann left for home, Melanie took the pads home. Thought early night for me until she said, I'm coming back seeing as your machine is out, besides while I try to figure the pillows out I'll have you should I need help..well there goes my early night.

She just left and the entire project turned out great, think it coast her $125 and for that she has footstool pad, chair pad, settee pad and 4 fair sized pillows all done with good quality outdoor fabric and mildew foam.

And me, I'm tired and sore back end...working around the table, got up to go around to the cutting table, Sailor was laying there, I fell trying not to hurt her..drats I'm sore..that's 2 falls in 3 days..one of these days broken hip for sure.

Took some photo's but too tired to post them today! Was just thinking, am I ever glad I bought Melanie a sewing machine for Christmas a few years back ...lol

Then as she is leaving she says, I sure would like a piece of panted linoleum for the front door...hint, hint. Christmas is coming I said.

Pardon if I don't chat, will read posts and respnd in the am

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

re: Carol
I just called the Hospice where Carol is, and she didn't have a good day today.
She's requiring more pain meds, and she isn't breathing very well.
If she's still with us tomorrow and up to having visitors, I will go and visit. When I said that to the nurse, she said "it's up to you". Well, of course it is.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, it was the most glorious of sunrises, the reddest I've ever seen..been to the graveyard, put the floral arrangement on Roger's grave, trimmed the grass and home I am.

Will try to get the chores I had planned for yesterday done today.

For those of you with Father's..enjoy and those of you whose father has passed on, relive the good memories!

Those turned out very nice, are they for her house or for yours?

Susan, please pass my hugs and prayers onto Carol if you do go....she is such a sweetheart.

On the meds for me today, look like a water balloon.

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not for me, she called this mornimg to say she put the pads and pillows on the settee and they are striking..happy with her MIL.

Out to cut grass, would have been done yesterday had I not been interrupted lol

Ann called, gong to her house for supper...her girls aren't up this weekend and with it being Father's Day she thought having company would help.

Debbie, are the water pills not working? I know you have little to no salt..been like that since you and I did our road trip..

Lyndonville, NY

I have been on the run for several days, so not able to take the water pills. Today I am planted at home....sending DH to his Dads alone as he looked at my legs and said "you need to stay home" and I was NOT going to argue!

I am being so good, staying off added salt and no fried foods....but I do need to push water and clear fluids more. So hard to drink when you have to travel and only "trees" between here and there for restrooms!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Carol:
much the same, waking/sleeping, breathing not good, and pain meds not being increased anymore. She's having "her drink" one sip at a time.
She said, should anyone call, she's welcoming visitors so I will go this afternoon after Church.
Please say prayers for her.

I'm off to have a shower, then to Church.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yep, you would surely get picked up for indecent exposure!! You had much the same when we went on our road trip, is it as bad as it was then?

You will just have to tell everyone NO so you can stay off your feet, take meds and rest.

Ann said on Friday she was at the little frames market they are trying to get going in town and ran into Cathy...Ann said she was shocked to see how swollen her leg is and here she's rid g her bike, working and always on the run. hate to say that one day that clot just might move, she isn't taking this as serious as she should.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Give her our best Susan!

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, when I had my clots...they made me move and do things. If you don't, it will get bigger....so she is doing the right thing. BUT she should elevate it when she is resting.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Omg I thought she was doing damage to herself! It just seems so frightening when seeing size of her leg that something could such as a clot could move..

Got the back yard done, time to start the side, lordy, by the time I finish cutting grass it will be time to start again.

Overcast, but still nice for the fathers!

Lyndonville, NY

The first four days on my warfarin/heparin...I had to stay planted. Very little movement. After that initial start up...they wanted me moving. I wasn't able to move my right leg at all that time....so had to use stretchy bands to loop around my foot and do a "pumping" motion, much the same as pushing on the accelerator in the car....to keep blood flow good and things moving.

Is her clot below the knee do you know?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, right below the knee is the swelling, right leg. Why the doctor took her off blood thinners after 5 years is beyond me?

Just after my last post, cut another area of the grass, came in for a drink sat and fell asleep, Noah came at 2pm and I was sleeping, guess I needed it.

usually he drops in while long boarding then off he goes but today he wanted to chat. Wonderful except I wanted to go outside but grandkids come first..I could feel myself almost dozing off. Greg, Melanie and the boys are on their way to Mel's mom and dad for supper.. Was going to cut front grass but it started to spit..working outside this weekend just isn't meant to me! Having a warm bath, getting dressed and off to Ann's for supper. Will not be a late night as she is leaving for the city early am and I'm just too tired to socialize. Think it's the meds that are tiring me out. Tomorrow I of for cat scan re kidneys..doubtful anything is wrong or I'd be feeling it

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Good luck on the tests...we'll be praying.

Bill's uncle passed away yesterday. He was to have knee surgery tomorrow and they took him off his warfarin for the surgery. He had a stroke and died in his sleep. That's the way I want to go. His daughters went to make breakfast for him yesterday and found him in bed. Surely would hate to be alone and find my dad....

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Goodness, Cookie - I would have thought they would have put him on another med for his heart, not taken him totally off something.......
I feel the same way about finding someone's passed away, and being the only one to do so. My sister went to visit my dad at the hospital (29 1/2 years ago) and found him passed. She had to go tell the nurse about it. He went peacefully in his sleep, with a lot of morphine to deaden the pain.......

Verona, ON

Betty please pass on Debbie's advice to Cathy and encourage her to move about as much as she can.One of the things even when my guy had trouble getting to his feet the docs wanted him to move about. Is Cathy having her clot meds by injection? Really weird about taking her off of the blood thinners. I too would really like to know the logic behind the decision.

Nope no more pole dancing or ladder climbing ...... have to keep my pact with Katie so she doesn't go and do something silly and hurt herself. lol, great logic eh?

Streak is doing really well. Chatting away, not as much as when his man was here but I think he will talk more as the days go by.

Lake water is like bath water. Nice and warm! Bass fishermen are getting anxious, Opening Day is soon.

I am so angry at myself tonight I could spit. I very carefully filled in the forms for Service Ontario for the benefits I am eligible for since Santa Warren's death.... DO YOU THINK I CAN FIND IT???? Can you tell I am upset? It would be nice to have some money coming in ...... I am usually so organized it is sickening, there is no explanation for this other than I feel like all the balls I am trying to keep in the air are starting to fall. I think I will put off searching any more until the morning. Maybe fresh eyes will help.

Hope everyone had a super weekend. Outstanding weather here, my idea of winter.

Verona, ON

Oh Susan that was my greatest fear with Santa Warren. I was going to step out of the room and he would pass then. I got that I would tell him I was leaving for an hour and he had better be breathing when I get back. While it sounds silly I am sure he heard me.

So sorry to read about Bill's uncle passing. Here one is taken off of w coumadin for a few days before the surgery and then immediately put back on it the day after the surgery. Some doctors here use aspirin instead of warafin/coumadin however there have been a few deaths after replacement surgery with those on aspirin.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Dianne - on Friday when I went to visit Carol in Hospice, I was sure that she was going to pass away while I was sitting there, and it kinda spooked me. I know better, because I used to work for Memorial Gardens, and I'm pretty pragmatic about these things (it happens to All of us.......), but still, it would be a "first" for me, and it isn't the sort of thing you wish on anyone. Now that I've had a chance to really "visit" with her I'm not spooked, but sill don't plan on visiting too much because there are so many who have been coming that I don't want to "hog" the time. Only 10 min / 2 people at a time. I have a feeling she's more likely to pass away during the night-time, but maybe that's wishful thinking for her - passing peacefully in the night would be the easiest way to go.

Dianne - also, you're likely to find the paperwork when you're not looking so - rest on it awhile (tomorrow am is good!)
Hopefully you can pass some of those balls you have in the air on to someone else to juggle. I'm sure you need a "mental break" from your mental stress.....

Verona, ON

Can you visit Carol in 'off hours' when others are busy..... not that I am saying you have nothing going on in your life because heavens girl you too have a lot of balls to keep bouncing in the air.But you know sometimes later in the evening or early in the morning like 7 am ish. Just gives yoou a chance to visit and not feel rushed.

Going to take my new meds and be quiet for a bit. The doc gave me new sleep meds plus she wants me to lay down for at least an hour every afternoon and even if I do not sleep I am not to read, watch TV even listen to music. I am supposed to chill. Tried it today and I was like a kid with ants in her pants.

LK your birthday celebration sounded and looked wonderful. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Mary what is up with you these days? Any work get done on your car this weekend?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I was thinking about that, Dianne - "off hours", and actually planned to contact the Hospice to see. Tomorrow being a work day for some, may be the optimal day, too.......

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, love those pillow and cushions, glad you took the time to help her out!
Sorry to hear you fell and hurt your backside, hope it is not too sore today?

Dianne, sure hope you find those papers soon! I have done that, tucked them in a safe place, and I would get back to them later, but could not find them, so had to go get more forms, and fill them out.

Susan, glad you got the chance to visit Carol. Did she know you were there?

Cookie, sorry to hear about Bills Uncle passing in his sleep! Sending prayers for the family!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Betty - perhaps get a couple of the DGK's to finish your yard work? Take a break or two ?

More prayers being said for Carol...

Dianne.. THANK YOU For giving up the pole dancing... I won't have to worry so much now. I agree with Susan... ignore the paperwork and it will come back to you where they were left.
Easy for me to say huh!
The Model A Tune up day is this Saturday so we are still cleaning and stuff. DS and I made my famous Cheeseball in advance...they are better if they sit a few days... I'll order pulled pork and buns and chicken nuggets.

If I can't fix my own car at least I can feed those who can ! LOL... We did wallyworld today and such.

I asked Hubs where I should take Betty when she comes to town and we talked about that a bit...

What do you think on that one Jean? Boutins? Tin Lizzies? Nottaway? were all thrown out there....

Hugs,
Mary

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yes, Carol knew I was there - she's totally aware. Not always able to talk clearly because of her breathing, and not able to sit up, but she loved hearing that everyone on DG miss her and wish her well.
Mind you, she tires easily and drifts off to sleep (they have her on morphine for the pain).
She agrees that I should go see her garden this year, as friends and neighbours did so much work for her, and she bought new plants too - Fern Leaf Peony I have to see!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, rained most of the night, everything is lush green, don't like all the pretty flowers laying on the ground though..made up my mind not to worry that the gathering will between flower blooms, what to heck, I'm not God after all, can't plan everything!

Working half day today, had Suzanne been in the office today I'd have answered telephones from home but I have to go into office to switch them to Jim for the afternoon.

Mary, you are always up to something exciting, I'm envious. How is your MIL? Ohhh you will so enjoy having your Model A group visit. Will they bring along spouses as well, bet there will be some oooh' and ahhh's when they see your gardens.

You mentioned having young ones come and help with the gardens..there is nothing to do but normal picking of weeds and grass cutting so I'll manage...

LindaKay, are you missing the beach and the little ones?

I was with my Aunt and dad when they passed on, very serene..what a remember most is for the next hour of sitting while waiting for family they looked years younger, perhaps it was more that no pain existed..

Joyce, my condolences to you and your family. Susan, Carol worked so hard in her gardens, they and the time she spent with Sheltie Rescue were the sunlight of her life. I so wanted a leaf peonie, we were all on a hunt for one and I was excited that she was able to find one..imagine paying $100-$150 for a baby leaf peony.Going to miss her posts for sure

Dianne, would you have set it in the car for when you made your trip to Service Canada so you were sure not to forget it?? Prayers to St Anthony that you find them this morning. Sure wish I still lived on Little Lake, was so nice to go for early morning/late night swims.

Wow, where did the time go, must run

Guten Morgen everyone!!!
Yep...I am still alive and kicking!! Had a rough few weeks with some health issues but I am slowly and surely getting better! Thank God for Family and quilting to keep me sane...lol
Been busy playing catch-up with my garden and it is getting there...one day at the time.

You all have been in my T&P and I hope that you all are doing great.

Dianne...if you are up to it...I would LOVE to have your company!! Maybe you can go on a little road trip up my way, because I have tons of hugs to give you.

Well I have to get going...Doc appointment once more.
Wishing you all a sunshine day and lots of love and hugs for everyone.
Thea

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thrilled to log on and see you posting Thea..must have been horrific feeling the way you were!
Can imagine you weren't totally up to sewing either. One of these days I'm also going to take a roadtrip your way..have a cousin (more like a brother) who bought a cottage other side of Trenton and wants me to visit..perhaps early fall..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Thea, so glad to see you posting!

Betty, yes I do miss the beach and the kids! We had a great time there, and did not want to leave!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'll be going to see Carol this morning - she had a better night last night the nurse said. Breathing easier, and therefore less panic when her breathing got worse.

I'm going to create a thread so those who know FancyVan / Carol will know what's going on. Must be too early in the am, I can't find where I make new threads........

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Good morning Thea. It's great to open this and see a post from you. You have been sorely missed!!! I'm so happy to know you are feeling better. What have you been quilting????

Lyndonville, NY

susan, there are already several threads for Carol....

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1260821/

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Yes, they lead back to the same "Canadian Gardening: Summer....." thread, which is where everyone has been posting.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb, waving..how is your day going?

Debbie, you behaving, drinking lots, feet up ??
