Morning, in for a break, thought I'd stop in with a 'hi'. Here's hoping you all have a sunshine day. Most gorgeous of days today, sunshine, light breeze and working in the gardens...birdies chirping, hummers feeding, now tell me can it get any better than this?
Break is over, gab later
۞Sweet Interruptions # 242۞
Who has the ark? Please send it home as it is beginning to appear that I will need it!!!! LOL It has rained every day since Kim left...I had so planned to get some yard work while she was gone.
Oh well, we needed the rain so I will make the most of it by doing things inside.
Enjoyed the coffee LK.
Good afternoon Sistahs!
Woke up late and missed church this morning. I popped a dvd "Eat, Pray, Love" last night and it put me to sleep within a few minutes!! Didn't even need anything else.
Hi Betty, it's getting pretty close to the Big Gathering!! I'm still sad that I can't be there, but on the other hand, I'm glad that some sistahs think enough of me that they'd be hugging you for me :D
Love you Betty, and maybe next year I'll get to hug you in person.
I don't plan on dying too soon, so you never know.. I might one day just knock on your doorsteps and take that tour of your beautiful garden.
Marion, you can have the Ark as soon as I fumigate it. Think there are some unwanted stoways, like mosquitoes!
Kim, will be a world traveller for life!! Good for her, the best education one could receive.
That's one of Kel's favorite kind of cakes. If there's an array of sophisticated cakes at a buffet bar, he's certain to pick the one yellow with chocolate icing. Haven't tried the cream cheese variety. He may like that.
More sewing today.. yes it's drizzling. Unlikely to go anywhere else later unless Kel doesn't feel like going to the store for a loaf of bread and eggs.
LK, wonderful coffee! Corpus Christi! You'd be taking the ferry too!
Enjoy your b'day sistah.
If we go to the north end of the island we have to take the ferry, but if we go to the south end, we can drive across the bridge.
sorry been MIA the last few days. will catch up soon.
just crazy busy. i know this speed of light is not the best for mourning my DD but i guess i m in denial to a degree ? just tired of mourning and t rying to find other things to keep me busy ... not good as i know i will come crashing down sooner or later.
hope all is well with eveyone
take care and God Bless you all
hugs to everyone
sue
(((((((((((Sue))))))))))) everyone mourns in a different fashion, and what's best for one is not right for another. You will know what "works" for you better than any of us here can. Just know that whatever you're going through at whatever "stage" you're at, we're HERE for you, m'lady! For me, when I've been mourning, I've Thrown Myself into working, and lose track of time. People let me go, cuz there's no explaining differently to me. It doesn't hurt anyone, and sure helps my paycheque LOL
(((((((Sue)))))))) Love you, lady!!!
Marion, we just saw all the flooding in your area on the weather channel! Hope our doing OK?
Well said Susan. Sending lots of ((((((((((HUGS))))))))) to you Sue!
I am high and dry but yes, there are some really low spots around. I sure do need the ark sent to me!!! LOL
ok......... THINK we're finished with the Ark. Not finished with some rain, but the massive downpours are done, I think.
Nothing like what Marilyn got, with flooded homes and unable to get out of their own driveways, for pete's sake!!
I think all of ours went Straight Off The Hill. surely can't soak into the clay we have LOL
D'ya think the border crossing will accept the Ark without Noah? lol
Good Morning Ladies,
Coffee is on!!!!
It was so windy over the weekend I spent the whole time inside. With my bad ears I can not handle high winds, I get very dizzy and bounce off the walls. My poor Angel Trumpet took a beating too. I needto figure out a shelter of some sort. We get these winds a lot, ugh.
(((((Sue))))) all you can do is take one day at a time. Stay strong, Sistah!!!
I have to take Amy to the vet this morning. She has a lump above her right eye. Doug is really worried, he's afraid it's going to mess with her eye sight. Plus she is getting "fixed" Yup we don't need any puppies.
I am a very PROUD grandma ^_^ A picture of my grandson's report card.
Have a good day Ladies
Congrats on the good report card! Hope we hear a good report about Amy!
Morning everyone! Are you all sleeping in?
That's wonderful, Cindy!! What a great report card!!!!!
Hopefully Amy will be fine - maybe it's just a simple lump of fat and can be removed easily.......
I'm not sleeping in - been busy updating my profile on an employment agency site...... I was mid-update when they phoned me. I had to tell her I was already coming in for an interview on Wed. That's why I was updating my profile. Boy, they're sure on-the-ball today!!
Sounds like they are looking for someone to hire! Praying it is you Susan!
The agencies are "hopping" with jobs.......... I found one I could do, but I think they want a bit more experience.
Would you believe, $375 to $500 PER DAY?!?! They want a project assistant to go out onsite about 2 weeks at a time (sometimes in the office, too), and do this for one year!!!!!!!
When I told Bob, he said he thought it was a typo. I told him No, it's not - oilfields pay alot right now, and if it's only a year contract, they're likely looking to pay extra so I could pay for my own benefits!
Quite the pay rate though, eh? LOL anyone want to move to Alberta now? lol
Hey Sistahs !!!
Sue, that's right... one day at a time... and also, only you know how you need to grieve... there's really no rules about that.
Susan, crossing my fingers about the job interview... hope you get a good job with big bucks soon.
Cindy, what a proud g'ma you are... really good report card. Hope Amy is alright.
LK, enjoy your b'day weekend in Corpus... I know you will.
Gawd, I know I missed a bunch of you, but I just don't have time to read pages & pages of info... sorry.
I've been up since 3am... just couldn't go back to sleep. Of course, I went to bed at 8 last night... might have something to do with it. Bet I sleep good tonight.
Well, I've got my second appointment with the dentist tomorrow. Took impressions last week, and this week, and next we get to make decisions about what my new teeth will look like. I get the oral surgery and new dentures on July 12th. Then, about 6 months of adjustments and re alignments. Never really wanted a long term relationship with a dentist, but I guess I always figured this would come to pass.
We got the craft room all cleared out, and now Don is busy tearing up the floor. He's already got the paneling all tore out, and some of the sheet rock. We even found mold on some of the inside walls... and plumbing where there shouldn't be any... go figure. LOL, he asked me if I wanted a sink in the closet in there... I think not. When we go to put it all back together, we're going to rethink the arrangement of the work tables. I am going to love the bigger window, so I want a work table right smack dab in front of it.
I have a bumper crop of tomatoes this week. Happens every year. I had decided not to make my sauces this year, but I've already filled all my neighbors fridges, and I think they lock the door when they see me coming now. So, I guess I'll break down and make some pizza sauce with the rest.
Don goes back to work tomorrow... so I should get a little rest... but probably not.
That's all happening in my kingdom... Well, not ALL, but some of the highlights at least.
Bj, how are your grapes doing?
(((((Sue)))))) good to see you posting!!
BJ - sure could use some of those tomatoes here!!!!
Decided not to do a veggie garden this year - buying veggie plants costs a lot of $$, and I don't have the room to plant seedlings in Feb and keep them in the porch for 5 months........ tiny porch and small one story mobile home.
Ah well, I bought some herbs and will plant them today!! Love cooking with fresh herbs! Go into my homemade soups really well!!
LK... the grapes got a fungus this year, and I didn't catch it in time... so they all dried up before they matured... look like little raisins on the vine. Bet I spray them earlier next year.
siiiiiiiigh my daughter suggested I use a website to track how I eat and exercise, so I go to myfittnesspal.com
I "added" her as a friend, so she can check how I'm doing. If I forget, I get an email from her, via the site lol
I just finished entering 2 1/2 days worth of food LOL
I wish I could afford the $300 to put training wheels on my bike, so I could learn to ride LOL
Sorry Bj, hope they do good for you next year!
Susan, $300.00 for training wheels?
So good to see you post BJ. Can relate to the dentist situation...although not dentures, am having some major work done and crowns put in. I can only the imagine what all you and Don are doing to the house. Before long it will occupy the same space but look nothing like the original. Change is good. I am facing the process with the mold where the pipe broke under my kitchen sink causing such a mess. While Kim is away has been a good time for me to go through all the cupboards and do some more downsizing!! After all just how many 1 qt. saucepans do 2 people really need.
I am so "down" about not being able to get the the get together this year...again. Seems like life has really put a blockade in from of me the past few that have been organized. Oh well, there is always next year.
Need to go get cleaned up.....picking up my DIL and the girls for a trip to Costco. Fun!!! Seriously, it really is with them.
I wrote for half an hour and it went POOF!!! The darn page moved to another site!!!!!
Woke up late sistahs. Now I'm playing catch up!! So a short reply to all, and if I miss anyone.. sorry.
BJ, my blueberries shrivelled before they ripened. Must be a fungus too? Haven't seen any grapes, but good chances of picking Japanese persimmons and figs this year.
Marion, me think we need to build an extra ark! This old one is starting to leak.
How's Kim's diet in Barcelona. She'll be tasting good pasta and pizza for sure.
Cindy, I hope you got a good vet for Amy that charges reasonably.
Of course, responsible pet owners neuter or spay their kids. I must be the irresponsible one. Still haven't neuter Hambone :(
But at least he gets his monthly heartworm meds.
Yes Susan, oil field work always pay well.
My ex worked for 20 years with an oil company (Mc Dermott Int'l) and that's the reason why I had been fortunate enough to travel overseas.
When we lived overseas, he's also getting a monthly housing and expatriate living allowance stipend. The good thing was we didn't pay any taxes if we live out of the c'try for 11 months. Don't know the law now.
Besides nice wages, he also will get bonuses once a project is completed!
Hope you snag a job with the oil field. That will sure gives you the financial security.
Kel will have to bring his parents along if he chose to move to Alberta. That will be great for me as long as he send me money!! Kidding.
Sue, sorry sistah, nothing you do or don't do will make us stop loving you. There's no such thing as one common guide to bereavement. You are you, and we are not walking in your shoes. We will all be here if you need to vent, cry, laugh or just put a smiley on the page.
LK, I've learnt a HUGE lesson yesterday. All evening I sewed, and ripped and sewed and ripped again.
I was too STUBBORN to stop, knowing I was too stressed to be relaxed at the sewing machine.
So, if my brain waves are sending me signals it's gonna be a bad day for any crafts that require perfection, I'm not going to ignore them!!
From the messages I am getting she is doing okay. The only downfall is the pan Chocolait (no clue how to spell it) for breakfast .....but she a tleast is careful with quanity. Said she had some stuffed tomatoes that were really good but what stuffed with is anyone's guess. I will have to wait until she gets home for more details.
Jaye - YOU stubborn? perish the thought!! lol
The only Oil & Gas company I'm being considered for is a 1 year term, but they pay $30/hr. Hope to hear from the agency that's thinking to set me up with them IF the company agrees.. I Know I would not get the $375-$500/day job. Not enough engineering terminology for that one, either......
yes LK - $300 for adult training wheels..... more durable, and more material they say. Don't know if that includes installation.......... siiiiiiiiiigh tried kijiji.ca and they only have links to company sites......... $200 USD f'instance.
Wow, I had no idea that two wheels would cost so much!
Marion, the foods in Europe are sooooo good, as they us fresh ingredients like pure butter.
Oh how well I remember LK. can't you see I am green with envy for her.
Hi Ladies,
Amy is fine, sleeping right now. The lump above her eye was nothing serious. Dr. Fritz explained it, but dang it can't remember what it was called.
Jaye, I have Pet insurance (Thank the Lord). It's like a credit card, make monthly payments. The heart worm pills I get for the girls are mailed to me. So much cheaper than buying those soft chews from the vet.
Ok heading to RW&B to post my goodies ^_^
Glad to hear that Amy is fine!
Really hot here the past few days! Anyone have any extra rain they can ship this way?
Mon 115° | 81°
Tue 109° | 77°
Wed 109° | 73
Thursday 108° | 72°
Friday 106° | 75°
Saturday 102° | 70
woo hoo, LK - that IS hot.......... we're having a high of 75 tomorrow.....!!
Your high temp, is our low!
Morning sistahs.
Yes I'm up early. Was in bed too early, and I know my day today will be another strange one!! Lord, give me some dry weather today, just send LK some of the wetness!
Our high here is supposedly 85.
Marion, Pain au Chocolat is very rich!! Like a croissant but stuffed with dark chocolate! Goodness, the calories Kim must watched, and like LK said, those Europeans use real butter.
After Barcelona, will her group cross into Italy? Those Italians express themselves with frequent and sometimes surprising hand gestures. Kim will be exercising her 'flying' hands on you when she returns!!
Wish that kind of convenience is available for me Cindy. No such thing as a Pets Insurance. All cash.
Since I'm up this early, might as well do some housework :( Woohoo... maybe I'd get tired enough to take a nap later :))
Chicory coffee is ready with Louisiana's specialty, sugar dusted beignets.
Good Morning Ladies,
ACK!! LK that is just too HOT!!!! Our high for the week is going to be today 98, then cool down a bit with some delta breezes, then back up to 98. The outside of this house is stucco and of course no insulation, it gets like an oven in here. The a/c is running non-stop!!!!! I have two fans blowing on me all night long. My grandmother couldn't handle the heat so grandpa would take her to Fort Bragg every summer, spent many summers there. Now my mom is the same way and I think I'm starting to get that way. I can't handle being in the sun without getting into some water, I'm thinking a trip to the coast sounds really good ^_^. I used to be able to work all day long outside doing all kinds of things, not anymore.
Yesterday did some planting of herbs and a few flowers in pots. Today will be a bit of grocery shopping - saw Dr Oz yesterday and got some ideas of things that are healthy to buy/eat....... never had jicama f'instance.... or black garlic! Saw it on a cooking challenge show - black garlic that is - and want to try it. Love the idea that your breath doesn't smell like garlic after eating it and it can be used for anything you'd normally use garlic for........
Jaye - rest, m'dear!
Cindy - paint your house in cool colours and it will actually lower your temperature a few degrees (2-5F)............ like cool ocean blue, and pale green.........
Sounds like our house Cindy! Small concrete cinder block house with stucco on the outside, and no insulation! AC running all the time now!
Thanks for the breakfast Jaye. I thought I posted that earlier, but I don't see it now!
Hope you get a good nap in today!
Oh thank you for the very special breakfast Jaye. Love it.
Yes, it is very rich which Kim is aware of....but can't be in Spain and not allow for at least one with coffee con leche...now can you? One of the students on the trip grandmother was born in France and still has a large group of family there. One meet Kim and Taylor last night while they were in Nice and took them out to dinner. What a great gesture that was...can't wait to hear about that evening. Today they are at the French Riviera , Monaco and then to Italy I think.
Looking like we are about to have yet another day of rain. I know the water table is low but it is getting so I need a day to dry out some...it is starting to smell sour outside. Had it when it is like that....besides I am having gardening withdrawal pains. LOL
LK, GAWD it's hot there... our highs have been in the upper 90's lately, and we've been complaining about that... and the humidity is awfully high too. Can't be outside long, for sure.
I'm working frantically trying to get everything done before the trip to Betty's. I bet I don't get half done what I intend to do... but we'll see.
Jaye... take a nap, sistah.
Susan, what herbs did you plant? I started planting Basil a couple years ago, and just can't get enough of it. I'm making my own Pesto now.. and we're eating it on (get this) homemade chiabatta bread. Easiest bread I've ever made, and delicious with a little pesto spread on it, and some roasted cherry tomatoes. A piece of heaven in your mouth.
I also make pesto up in large batches, and freeze it... it never goes to waste.
Cindy, What kind of dry wall do you have inside the house? Not much you can do about the stucco outside... but you might be able to blow in some insulation between the studs. They just drill a hole in the top of the wall, blow in the insulation, then patch the hole. You can even rent the equipment at the big box hardware stores, and do it yourself.
Well, this isn't getting anything done... So, better get off here to get started on another project.
Oh, yea... I also wanted to ask if anyone has ever used one of those OFF Clip On mosquito repellent things...
It's suppose to create a barrier around you using an insert and a fan blows the repellent to keep mosquitoes away from the area around you. Do they work?
Mosquitoes don't usually bother me, but they might have a different stain of them pests in Costa Rica that will make my trip miserable. It sure would be easier to take the clip on on the flight, with some refills... rather than a bunch of spray or cream stuffs.
Herbs I have - English Thyme, Rosemary, Oregano, Garlic Chives (come up every year, in a hanging planter), Basil (Spicy Globe & Sweet Italian), Curly parsley, and I have planted a bit of lettuce in a planter.
For my other planters I got some lobelia, marigolds, tiny pansies, and a couple of geraniums (1 pink and one red) to go in one large planter. Hope they fill out cuz right now they look rather small in the huge planter lol
Let us know how the clip-on Off works for anyone - a friend of mine is quite allergic to mosquitoes and hasn't tried the clip-on.
I have tried those clips, and several friends as well, and those clips are a waste of money!
Bj, that pesto sounds really good. I did not know you could freeze it.
