Oh Dear! Such a sweet little tough guy. Hugs from me too! :(
Coffee Break # 80
Thanks for the prayers, all. I had picked 2 nursing homes close by that are really good, but they don't have any beds available. Will have to look at one in Middleboro. Has kind of a low rating, but it's close. A friend told me her aunt was in there, and they had her over-medicated and she was not given the freedom to walk freely about the place, even though it's a locked down Alzheimer's unit. Will have to make sure they know I don't want Dad over-medicated, and he should be given some freedom, within reason. He is walking around well now, and he doesn't like to sit in a chair all day. Not only that, but it's just not good for him.
Marylin, that's good to hear your DH's niece is being so well taken care of. I like to hear that. I worked with a lady with Down's Syndrome and Alzheimer's before. That was about 10 years ago. I found out that people with DS will always get Alzheimer's, and it usually will start early. Such a shame.
Celeste, so sorry to hear about baby Adam's troubles. I will continue to pray. About all we can do these days. Prayer and more prayer. Hopefully the surgery will be successful. Hang in there.
Louise, that new garden is gonna look great. I love when I get to put in new beds, however, I can't even keep up with what I have. I'll have to stick with renovating old beds.
Ronnie, good news on those polyps being benign!
Allison, sorry to hear about your fraudulent charges on your CC. You hear about that more and more these days.
Victor, those annoying commercials get the potential customers attention, and they will remember what they saw, therefore making more sales. The more annoying, the more memorable.
Karen
Karen, you're right about DS & Alzheimer's going together...that's what my niece was told at Dartmouth-Hitchcock...hope Ted will do fine....
interesting...love that one guy's comment...he's going to be a truck driver in England now to even it out
I have my doubts about that pic.
The aging of the skin must also relate to skin type....when my DH died, he was 88......very few wrinkles, & he spent a lot of time in the sun and on his boat with no sunscreen.......
I agree Robin, skin type and nationality, and region...lots of different variables...maybe that's what side the diesel smoke exhaust stack was on on his truck?
Smoking really does a number on skin too.
This baby is one tough cookie!!! Even if baby Adam doesn't survive, I feel like I've already witnessed several little miracles in watching him battle this evil sickness.
ADAM UPDATE: This was yesterday...the kids(his parents) made a difficult decision:
Adam is going in for surgery today at noon to have a ventriculostomy (temporary drainage systems in his head) and when he has better blood counts they will do an adjustment on the shunt that is in now. We are hoping that after the pressure in his head is controlled he will come out of the semi coma state that he is in now and show these doctors that it is not time to give up. We had a very difficult conversation about the very low chances of the chemo actually curing his cancer with out radiation therapy or even at all and the importance of his quality of life. They dident even really want to risk the surgery because of how his blood counts are so low and the risks of infection and bleeding out are greater than ever, they also said they don't know if he will ever really have the mental compacity that he had last week because of the pressure issues and his semi coma state. We told them that we cherish every moment with our son and if they can prolong his life for an hour a day or a week with this surgery it is worth all the risks and they reluctantly agreed to try. Please pray for our little boy and that the surgery will go well and he will wake up and show them that this fight isent over yet.
LAST NIGHT:
Surgery went well we are waiting for them to get him stable and then we can get him awake and get the breathing tube out they still haven't let us see him yet. Try to post again tonight but I'm exhausted so we'll see what happens.
LATER ON:
They decided to leave the breathing tube in overnight I can't wait to see him with out it tomorrow and tell him I love him when he is awake
TODAY:
The breathing tube is out!! Adam seems more awake then yesterday. His mouth is still a little sore but he's looking at us, focusing better with his pressure in his head under control now! Thank god the surgeons agreed to put the ventrix in because if they hadn't he would have died.
60 MINUTES AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
White blood cell counts are up a little today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Praise God for answering prayers !!!!
WOW!!! Adam is one tough cookie for sure. Continued prayers. Thank you for the update.
poor kid.. keep fighting Adam!!!
Such courage. May God bless you all.

Another miracle for Adam....
Interesting....
I understand all that you said, Celeste, and will continue to be there with you, in thought and prayer.
Karen, you are doing the best you can in a very challenging situation. Please tell your Dad that Hank and I send him our best!
Thanks everyone! Had a great day with Allison & Randy then I just checked ANGELS FOR ADAM UPDATES and im on cloud 9 tonight. It''s been a GREAT DAY!!!
Update from his Mom:
Angels for Adam
Baby Adam looks GREAT today he has been very alert this morning and has proven the doctors wrong again!!! And to think that they were reluctant to try the surgery on Thursday just blows my mind, he has bounced back again and has recovered for the second time from a coma!! What a strong little boy he is!!! He truelly is the strongest person I have ever met or ever will meet, he never ceases to amaze us and the doctors.
Adam K. Chambers my handsome and wonderfull son you are my HERO. Dada and mama love you sooo much and will never give up on you we will be here with you every step of the way.
Thank you everyone for your support and prayers
Good news! Adam has so much to live for. I pray for his and your family's continued strength.
Thank you Rosemary, it is much appreciated!
Celeste, the photos you posted before just brimmed with this boy's sweetness. All the best to your your family.
So happy Celeste!
so happy to hear it Celeste!!!.. and we had a great day too... it's sooooo nice here!!!
Great news indeed!
Just putting it out there now, that next May 18, 2013 there will be an RU here. The Saturday after Mother's Day. Save the date!!! If I commit then it will have to happen, by hook or by crook. I know it is far for most of you, but it will open up a new area. Obviously it will be a long time before we start the planning, but thought i'd let you know.
Oh, man, Victor! I did not need to see that article of the effect of the sun on premature aging of the skin. I drive a lot for work. Did 6 years as a taxi driver, then over a year driving cars for a rental car agency and delivering auto parts. I do a lot of driving for my current job. Sometimes I feel like I'm a taxi driver. I'm gonna look like that someday. Oh, I pray not!
What great news on baby Adam, Celeste! I will continue to pray. He's a strong little boy.
Jan, I will come to your RU if I can. That will be a good time, as you guys are ahead of us by a bit. Would be nice to make a trip over there.
Went to visit Dad today. Had a nice visit, but when I went to leave, he tried to follow me out. They had to hold him back, and he was fighting them. Don't know if he tried to hit them. I felt so bad. He so wants to come home, and I sure hope it will work out when he does. I'm so worried that his disease is progressing more. As long as he doesn't need a lot of physical care, then I think we can manage. We need to make it work. I don't want to put him in a home until we really need to. I just can't do that to him. On a lighter note, I went to check out a nursing home in Wareham, which is about 30 minutes from us. It's rated 5 stars, and I was really impressed with it. It's set up really nicely, with a huge outside courtyard in the Alzheimer's unit, and lots of scheduled activities. I think for the most part he will like it there, and I have a friend who's aunt is in there, and they say she is happy there. She was the one who was in that one in Middleboro that I mentioned before where they over-medicated her. I have decided not even to check that one out. I'm hoping he'll get into the place in Wareham. Please pray for us that he they will have a bed available.
Karen
Tough decisions, Karen. Best to all of you.
Thanks, Victor. It really is tough for sure.
Karen
you know I will be there Jan!!... sorry Karen that is hard
:(
hey Victor or Louise.. what is the app that you can upload photos to DG?... forgot I couldn't from the iphone.. had to email them to myself and then upload them when we got back to the hotel on my laptop.. what a pain
Jan...im going to be there too!!!
So sorry Karen, such hard choices.
Jan I'm saving the date for that one!
Karen prayers for the best decision, I know how hard that is (((♥)))
Karen, hard choices. All the best.
I still don't upload from the phone or iPad, Allison. It was Louise and Jan who had it.
It's icab that I use for the iPad.
Woohoo!!!! It's only a year away, but it will be here before you know it.
((HUGS))) Karen. Tough decisions for sure. Praying for you all.
Count me and Hank in, Jan! It's already on my calendar!
Allison, it is icab mobile, but it has lots of limitations, like distorted photos and limited uploads at one time. The network times out and you lose your whole post if I try to post more than two photos at once.
Wonderful post about Adam! Don't ever tell me prayers don't work! That is one little boy whom I'd like to see become our President one day! I could really get behind him with the spunk and vigor and courage he has!
You put it perfectly, Louise....I think of Adam daily, and many prayers are being sent his way.....Jan, I'll circle the date...would love to come if I'm able.....
Woohoo again and again!!!!
I'd vote for him, too. Lots of spunk!!!
