As it's the City that's hiring, they have two groups they're hiring in - Age 35 to 64 (Bob & I fall in that range lol) and "younger". This hiring fair is sponsored by 2 radio stations - one is for the "older groups" and one for the "young folks".
Here's hoping.......
Gee - Kel's just a Youngun!!
۞Sweet Interruptions # 240۞
I didn't ask for youth, I asked the Lord for a Christian man, but I didn't know he has 'family' baggage.
Susan, there are no job fairs here, nor in the nearest 'city'. Word by mouth or nepotism, if there's any job vacancy in the local govt.
Crissy, may all your bills be met and you are represented by the best atty. If you're still going through with the big "D".
Pegi, this first shift gal is ready for bed!! I hope Darwin's having a good day today.
See you all in the morning sistahs.
Darwin did more today than he has all week. Took an old wooden table that was falling apart and chair that was beyond repair and put them in the trash, took the barrels out to the curb. Now if he would feel like doing something every day we may manage to get our yard back to looking like a yard and NOT a junk yard. So glad it turns cooler in late afternoon so you aren't fighting the heat.
Time to jump in the shower, I cleaned the ceiling fans and boy were they dirty. That's what I get for living so close to a very busy street. Or, maybe I should clean them more often and I wouldn't be sneezing all the time.
well Jaye - compared to Bob & I, Kel's a youngun lol
Thank you for your good wishes, Jaye - hopefully the Good Lord and the City of Calgary will see fit to get us jobs with the City - they're a "fair hiring" company........... and I may just throw my epilepsy their way....... that, and my "old man" of a DH may get us Both jobs....... one for medical, and the other to combat "age discrimination" LOL
well so many things to do here and not enough of Tim and Sue to go around
Tim got a job so he will leave on sunday . so we are craming in tons of projects. first is to find a used truck for tim. second is get a shade clothe on the GH way to hot ! and my shade stuff is dying.
kids have cavy shows and also we had to cancel farmers market
having a mothers day special but the supplier screwed me on some plants . got to run to wally and get some sheesh the shame of it all
so we are off and running
happy mothers day to you moms
Morning everyone!
Glad to hear Tim got a job, but sounds like he is on the road again? Hopefully not too long. Sorry you had to cancel farmers market because of the bad plant supplier!
Don't work too hard!
Morning ladies.
Big, big headache here.
Can't think much. But will return when it leaves.
Have a wonderful day everyone!
yaaaaaaaaaay Tim got a job!! Sorry he has to be away, but now you'll be better financialy!
Jaye - hope you headache Goes Away!!
Jaye, make sure you are eating properly, and taking your meds! Hope your feeling better soon!
Ladies, wishing you all a wonderful Mothers day for Sunday! We are leaving to go back to San Antonio for more hearing test for Todd. We are leaving here Sunday morning, and will be back Monday afternoon. I think we are having dinner at T.G.I. Fridays for Mothers day, then fabric shopping!
have a great trip, LK!!!
siiiiiiiigh - y'know what it's like when it's said "if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all"??
Well, a friend asked me to help her with taking some stuff down to a thrift shop, and when she was driving me home Bob called to say he was stuck in the Meridian just as he was going to turn into our park........ his truck "died".......
Good thing my car was fixed on Friday........
However (and here's the bad part) he is helping a friend in the same park and has been picking up supplies (lumber, etc) to work on her home & flower berm & yard. We can't haul lumber in my small car....... darn, darn, darn.
Another person from the park happened to need to turn at the same spot into the park. He has a truck with a tow chain so he got Bob into the park, but at the main office, so there Bob's truck sits, until we can get in touch with our neighbour/mechanic to see if he can fix it. I hope it's not a computer chip thing, cuz Richard knows Nothing about computerized parts in a vehicle.
Hope it is an easy fix Susan!
It'll probably be another 2 1/2 hours before Richard's home and I can ask him to take a look at the truck........
LK, I know you'll be having some fun. Make sure the a/c works!
Sorry Susan, another $ issue you're facing. I do hope it's something Richard could fix.
Sue, I am so glad that you have a bunch of friends at the ORVG site that cares for you. All those wise words said, I'm sure you'll take to heed.
I'm sure like me, the rest of the sistahs are wishing we could be there for the Jessica Memorial Garden/RU.
It would be so awesome to see what Cookie has made for you and the additional plants that are also part of the gifts from ORVG. You are so loved, Sue, don't you forget that!
May you always have someone, if Tim's unavailable, to give you moral support for the court hearings to come.
Us sistahs here, will always be with you in spirit.
The work truck is fixed. Tune up, replace the distributor cap and rotor, plus towing charge, cost $300.
The Chevrolet dealer had given an estimate of $500 for labor, saying it might be the carburetor that would cost another $250. For the first time, Kel listened to me, and called on a local licensed mechanic.
LK, you are right. I haven't been eating right. Lately, I don't have any appetite to eat a full meal.
But the headache I think is because I didn't have coffee today!
I had stayed away for a while, and now back to it. Molasses in tea somehow doesn't taste good!
Pegi, did Darwin cleaned up more today? Does he do crafts like you do? Hmm.. I suddenly remember you like to turn trash into treasure. So, who's the pack rat? Lol!!
Good night sistahs.
Sue - you have a Jessica Memorial Garden RU??? bear with me, my memory is terrible....... Does this have anything to do with a group going to Betty's the end of June?
Jaye - apparently it may be an easy/cheap fix - something to do with the fuel pump or another part (can't remember which one - Bob DID tell me.....). Richard's going to "get a deal" on some parts and try one, and if that's not the one, then he'll get the other part and that should fix it.
Bob sprayed some ether on the motor (?) and tried to see if that would give a spark, and it came close......but not enough. Then he tried boosting it (2 batteries) using my car on one, and Richard's gf's car on the other one. No go..... ah well, we'll see what Richard can do. They don't think it's a computer chip..........
Good morning, definitely coffee is on this morning.
No headaches yet, and I hope it stays that way.
If it's the fuel pump, it won't be that costly, Susan. You're lucky to have a mechanic friend.
Susan, it's not Betty's Sistah Gathering, it's the Ohio River Valley Group.
Certainly there's love for our Sue there in her own 'home'.
No exchanging of plants at Betty's for sure! The border officers frown on that.
Have a restful Saturday, sistahs, if you're not on the road.
Here's a page of pics of my late mother.
She started singing in public when she's 11.
In the first pic, she's 14 I think.
My dad's the one standing behind, third on the right, with his hand under his armpit. (top picture)
Grandad chaperoned her to every venue. She quit when she got married.
The newspaper clipping was written in Arabic, about her radio singing career.
It's a shame, there's no recording of her voice. We never thought of doing so, not knowing she'd leave so soon.
Second picture had dad playing his guitar, the one on the right.
Undoubtedly us kids inherited their musical genes. Yet, Dad tried to surpress our music interests. Us kids had to lie when going for band or choir practices.
Since they passed away, two sisters teach music, a brother's recognised for his musical contribution by the country's president, while another moonlights.
Good Morning Ladies,
Boy those of you with car troubles, I feel for you. My 4runner was due for 5000 mile check up and oil change. I don't do a lot of highway mile so the oil really doesn't get that hot. Well I wasn't going to take it in before mom and I left for Carson City but then I thought yea get it over with. WELL!!! it's a good thing I did. They found a leak in the water pump. I would of never made it to Carson City. Luckily I had bought an extended warranty, and only had to pay a $50 deductible, otherwise I would of had to pay $525 of which I did not have!!! I bought this 4runner 7 years ago, with monies I received from my husbands death. After losing every thing else we owned I figured I deserved a new car. So this thing has to last me the rest of my life.
Yes dealer ships charge way too much for repairs and parts. They said I need a cabin air filter.....$69.......Riebe's.......$17, my son in law is going to install if for me.
My mom has been very sick. Monday night she went to a baseball game, it was windy and really smoky (people burning up yard clippings before the cut off date). Later that night she had a sore throat. Tuesday morning she woke up, and could hardly talk. By that evening she had a temp 100. She stayed with my daughter that night then Wednesday morning had a doc appt. All her doc said was she had a virus and gave her a scrip. What kind of virus??? No blood work done, nothing. GRRRRRRR I hate that doctor of hers!!!!! Thursday mom felt really bad, but then I talked to her yesterday and she was feeling better.
Well, it's going to be really warm today so I am getting a head start on yard work, then making an Angel Delight for Sunday, yum yum ^_^
Have a good day Ladies!!!
These are pictures of my Mom, she is probably in her early 20's in the first one?
Second group of pictures, Mom and Dad are on the ladders in an apple orchard. Picking apples as migrant workers as they were in their late teens. That is where they met.
Cindy, glad you had the extended warranty!
LK, thank you for sharing.
That's so interesting. Migrant workers from where? Or they follow the harvest all over America?
Your mum's a lovely lady and she's tall too.
You do resemble her. Your dad was soooo young then!
How many kids to they have?
My mum first laid eyes on my dad when she joined the band.
I recalled her telling us that the band needed a singer and had heard her sang. Grandad was so against it, but he relented when they told him that they'd arrange some musical pieces to include his banjo playing.
Grandad ended up being their photographer, and that banjo was never played!!
Cindy, your mum might have a cold virus that affected her throat bad.
Good thing you had that 4 wheeler brought in, if not you'd be on foot.
My parents were migrant workers from the US. They were a poor family, and followed the crops all over the US. Mom is originally from Michigan, and Dad from Tennessee. They met in Michigan at the apple orchards, and fell in love! Mom was sexually abused by her father for many years, so when she met my Dad, she told her parents she had to get married. She was not pregnant, but had my oldest Sister 9 months and 9 days after the wedding. There are 4 kids in the family, 2 girls and two boys. It was a rough life growing up, but we learned the true value of working for a living. Guess that is where I learned to sew and craft!
You're giving me the chills, LK.
Nothing I hate worse than fathers that molested their own daughters. Seems God gave dad to your mum for a way out. Bless him for loving her.
Any man that molest any child needs to be hung up by his you know what, and whipped!!!! At the prison where my brother is, child molesters and women beaters do survive!!
They were married for 54 years when she passed away! She passed day after Mother day in 2006! it is still a hard day to get through! She is missed dearly!
Cindy, rapists and molesters are castrated while child rapists are hung to death. Such is the law in Singapore.
((((LK)))) such a bittersweet day each Mother's Day for you.
Just a few days ago, my sister posted on FB how she misses our mama. She's been gone for more than a dozen years, and still the hurt is there.
We can only cling to sweet memories.
And they are sweet memories!
Wish the laws in the US were more harsh for people like that! Maybe then they would think about what they are doing!
Memorial held for our friend, Helen - day before Mother's Day too - her son & daughter are going to find it hard, I'm sure....
The memorial was lovely - all old favourites sung (Bob & I were in the choir today). Her DD, DSIL, and DGD all got up and told stories about her - touching, and funny ones. Our pastor knew her well, so he spoke about her too.
She was one very amazing woman, and never complained.........
Quite a looker when she was young!
Happy Mama's Day mothers!
May you cherish another day of good memories!!
Happy Mother's Day!!!!! Have a great day y'all!!
Very, very nice poem LK. Thanks for posting that.
My nephew did a wonderful thing yesterday. He posted a long letter to my sister, on FB, telling of his love and gratitude. Not too shabby for an 18 year old.
Good morning sistahs!
Hope your Mother's Day was a good one. So, this morning it's simple breakfast of coffee and bagels with cream cheese. Enjoy.
Good luck at the job fair, Susan and Bob.
Didn't have to water the plants as it rained yesterday. Mercy me, I don't think I'd have the energy to do so this morning.
Housework can wait. And Kel can have ham sandwich!
Anyone of you here follow Survivor? What do you think of the winner? I don't think I can be conniving enough to play the game. I still prefer Amazing Race where winning depends on team's effort, and not having to convince the other contestants to vote you out.
Have an awesome Monday, sistahs.
Thank you, Jaye - I'm printing up my resume (5 copies) now, to take with us to the job fair - Bob already has his :-)
We have a tow truck company coming to bring Bob's truck 400 ft to our place so Richard can look at it and determine what's wrong.
Cya all later.
Morning Ladies,
Here at my mom's, tons of weeds to mow down. The flowers beds look awful. I think I need to dig every thing up and redo the flower gardens. I know for sure I need to dig up lilies and transplant they have multiplied by the 1000's. A lot of my Iris bloomed and I missed getting pictures. But did manage a pic of "Big Apple". I have two Voo Doo Lilies that are going to bloom. I have one in a pot I am taking it home with me the other is in the ground behind one of the fish ponds. Will be cleaning the ponds out too. Have a very pregnant gold fish.
I watch Survivors, I was kind of hoping they would of picked Sabrina, but Kim did play the game well and that is what Survivors is about.
Cindy, I was rooting for Sabrina too.
But this year, the girls are smart for sticking together. I didn't watch the reunion, wonder if Colton had apologised for being so nasty towards Christina and that comedian fella.
I still have long ways to go to get rid of all the weeds. Thought I had killed most of the daylilies when they failed to rebloom, but some of the 'descendants' showed up!
Sorry Jaye, we don't watch survivor here.
Cindy, I wish I could grow iris here! I have received several fans from different girls from D G, and all I get are green long leaves, never a bloom! Same with lilies! Guess it does not get cold enough here?
If that's the case, LK - then we should REALLY get blooming irises and lilies, and we DO!!
I have both in our garden, and hope the irises bloom better. I got a very dark purple one from our Iris Lady (Inanda) but it's taking 3 years to really show more than 2 blooms.
Guess what?!?!?! I planted a Saskatoon bush 4 years ago, and This Year is the first time I've seen BUDS!! There are 6 buds at the end of one branch - nowhere else that I can see. I expect the birdies will eat them all, as there's a bird's nest right under the overhand of our shed, and that's exactly there the bush is planted........ lol Baby birds would love them......
I didn't know there was a bird's nest right above it or I wouldn't have planted it there.
