What are you eating from your garden right now?

Thomaston, CT

I'm pickling today....picked 2 more red toms from the 4th of July plant...much smaller than the 1st one picked....also, skins are tough!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Lack of water making the skins tough? I am still waiting for them to turn, still green. :(

The garden July 3rd, & July 22, and last 2 are side views from yesterday. Excuse the lawn, not mowing much with the lack of rain. After watching my BIL mow every other day and fry his lawn...I refuse to.

Guess what i'll be doing today? Would anyone like to help me pick? :)
My pinky finger for comparison in regards to the blueberry size.

The blueberries are wonderful this year......I haven't made anything from them, just eating them plain......

I still say I am 2 weeks behind on time, due to the warm/cold/warm and lack of water.

Bit into my first tomato and it was rotted inside.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

sorry to hear that memory - we have 30+ t plants although i do not think there are 30 t's on them - very slow coming this year, have heard similar from others in the area.

only think really growing is the squash patch - lots of blooms and have some early Cinderella pumpkin's - the only trouble with the patch is my "friendly" eastern water snake has moved in - snake is huge!

oh man can't show that to Randy... he loves the pumpkins!!!

Thomaston, CT

Oh, no! I've seen that snake! They love to hide under the large leaves.....my garter snake used to love the cucumber patch.....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Very weird year

Thomaston, CT

My plants are loaded, Bill....I've only had 3 ripe ones so far.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

feel free to rub it in marilyn :) might have been the weather this spring - even started them early this year from seed. same with eggplant, had large plants and only a couple so far have started - hoping for a big August.

Thomaston, CT

LOL....usually I'm the one with only a couple of tomatoes...also getting quite a few peppers this summer, & I never get very many....

My opinion the weather is not like it was last year. Too hot & humid for many days. A lot of tomatoes will not produce when it hot & humid. For the most part they do not get pollinated by bee's & bugs, its the dry wind.

Unlike most, I have 68 plants and I have to get in and work them, at least a couple times a week. I shake them and that helps to produce a better yeild.

Cherries are taking off like crazy & getting red. The others 1 here, 2 there, but they are coming.

Peppers? Green Bells are short and the peppers are tiny. Jalapeno's are producing fine.

Salsa is starting to call my name :-)

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

DH is harvesting peppers

Thomaston, CT

What kind of cherries do you grow, Sherrie?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Beets - OH YUM!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Cute pumpkins Bill. Didn't plant any this year, was supposed to and forgot or got sidetracked....Grandchildren are gonna kill me!
Have eaten tons of chard and cukes so far, had one cabbage, gave 2 away and have picked 4 G. Peppers so far.

Burpee Sweet 100 and American Seed Large Red Cherry. American seed tomatoes are much bigger then sweet 100

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

picked a bunch of cukes, squash and green beans today - it will be a big pickling day come sunday for the cukes

Thomaston, CT

Sweet, dill, or both?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

hot dill - did some bread and butter a couple years ago and still have a few jars - the dill's go fast - hoping to do a couple dozen before the end of the season

Thomaston, CT

Mmmm....sounds good.....While babysitting at the farm this morning, I picked a bunch of rainbow chard.....blanched it, then sauteed with onions, bacon, & cherry tomatoes.....surprise for my son's dinner tonight....

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

YUM!

Thomaston, CT

Yeah, it was good...best part was HayHay was my sous chef......she really helped me..... she also prepared lunch for all 3 of them....thought that was good for a 7 year old......

Picke green beans, enuff for 1 meal.

Pick green beans, outta the garden and cook them. Buy Delminoco steaks and do both, baked potatoes on the grill. What do you get? I am not hungry. Well guys I am not freaking cooking no more. I will deal with a sandwhich. U have screwed me too many times. So sorry people that dont know me but I am at my wits end.

Cant do it no more.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yum!!!... looking good Celeste!!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks! Thats swiss chard at my knees. :)

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I love Swiss Chard! I planted corn from seeds that my DBIL saved from last year and I have tall cornstalks with only a few ears showing - like 3 for 12 stalks. Guess that hybrid thing isn't always working in the gardeners favor!

Eating a few grapes and asian pears. Looking forward to making jelly again from Aronia berries. This year I am going to freeze them and may jelly when the weather is cooler!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

cooler full of cukes on ice right now - lots of squash - it finally looks like the t's and eggplants are starting to take off - lots of blooms

Thomaston, CT

Hang in there, Sherrie.....we've all been there......nice looking corn, Pixie.....picked a Cherokee Purple tomato.....almost ready for my sandwich....

3/4 of a gallon of Cherry Tomatoes. Another week it will be a gallon a day - Plus

nice!!!!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I'm from the NW, but couldn't resist this thread! We're eating tomatoes, daily, and peppers as well. I brought some tomatoes over to my neighbor and he said "you know, Karrie, it is against the law around here to have tomatoes this early"......... hehehe - we use Wall of Waters and get them in the ground early.
