What are you eating from your garden right now?

Thomaston, CT

Wow...amazing cantaloupes! Must be that good Maine manure!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ooohh yum!!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Well... We would have had a cantelope from the compost heap, but someone who mowed the yard of the vacant house next door(it was a different person)decided to help himself to it and then weed whacked behind our garage which wasn't where he was supposed to mow. Jeff had been watching it grow and waiting for the right moment. He was very put out when he saw that I hadn't brought it inside.

Paw-paw.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that stinks Jan

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Heehee. Guess he needed it more than we did.

Thomaston, CT

Just greedy! Memory, how large does your paw-paw get?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

nice haul there celeste - we have a ton of butternut here - canned my first 4 jars of t's yesterday - finally

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Marilyn - the tree or the fruit?

Thomaston, CT

The fruit, Memory....can you eat one in a sitting, or do you have a lot left over? Can it be preserved or made into jelly?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The fruit I get (and this year it was only TWO) is about the size of two eggs and I can eat one by myself - no problem. I have never had enough to look into doing anything with them other than eating. I think that Victor has Paw-Paws - maybe he knows if they make into anything or freeze.

Thanks, Memory.....

Alpo Prime Cuts, thanks its gonna be my last year. Hopefully.

Why cant I do a pic on this page now?
Now its asking me if I want to say on this page or leave this page. WHAT?????

Thomaston, CT

Mmmmm....

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Eating the last cucumber today. :( Something has found the fig tree - a big bird or possum so there won't be too many more figs.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Sad, AYC.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I'm still getting some strawberries

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I am jealous!

Thomaston, CT

Beets, carrots, & really green tomatoes....sorry about the figs.....

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I did get one fig this morning. :) I would start a new thread since this one is soooo long - but does anyone thing it is worth it considering it is Fall?

Thomaston, CT

Probably not.....glad you got a taste of the figs......

Monson, MA

Just picked last of cukes, had a freeze last night...do like the looong bearing cukes.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Pulled up a basil plant Thursday night ans will make pesto today. I discovered that I like pesto if it is made with dry roasted pine nuts. Hoping that my Asian persimmons on the tree survived - the leaves are not looking good - but I think the fruit is OK. NOW I find out that Fuyus ripen in November! *slapping forehead* What was I thinking when I planted them?

Thomaston, CT

Ladyslipper, my cukes were done more than a month ago! Memory, you are close to the shore, so maybe it will be mild enough to ripen them......

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I hope so - this is the first year they have set.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Picking saffron.

Thomaston, CT

How long will it be good?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I have no idea - I can't taste it in food anyway. I think, kept in an air tight container - it ought to be good for a couple of years. It is just nice to have fall blooming crocus in the yard.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

can't taste it??.. ooohhh so sad.. I love it in rice / risotto .. so yummy

Thomaston, CT

I can't remember using it for anything....pretty color, though....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Don't they use saffron in Paella, too?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

They do.

Thomaston, CT

Yuck....if it's made with fish & squid....
