Quick report here. Final college choices are Oberlin and UMass Amherst Commonwealth College. Every MD I talked to this year told me DD2 would be crazy not to go to UMass Amherst, so i guess she is not crazy, just a little bit reckless with cars, and now a little sore tonight.
DD1 heard lots of advice including from some retired college English professors that she'd be crazy to go anywhere but Oberlin to study humanities, so she's disregarding worries about the people who wear ears on their caps as well as the hipsters. It's starting to become apparant that everyone in a college doesn't drop acid, and she'll find her element. If it's terrible, she can still apply to UMass Commonwealth college next year , but it might be hard to equal the deal Oberlin offered her in a subsequent year.
Coffee Break # 78
Cool. Biochem majors drop acid and bases...
Oberlin is a good school + their music school a combination which is tough to beat. Every school has nuts who are stupid enough to do drugs. That includes many high schools. The girls should form their own opinions when they get there.
People from Ohio including my family members are just as sophisticated as anywhere else.
bio-chem is a tough course anywhere.
I think the girls did get through their biases pretty well. Only 7% of Oberlin's students are from Ohio, though. Dozens there from Massachusetts. College population is about 3,000, and about 600 of them are in the conservatory. There's a Steinway piano in every dorm, for everyone to use though. I thought the place was amazing, and the gardens were also quite beautiful.
I'll have to tell DD2 that she will drop acid and bases in Amherst the next time hipsters become their topic of conversation :)
I expect that she will miss her sister.
It was really hard for my two daughters to decide not to go to the same school, but they couldn't admit it. DD1 is the true emotional owner of our dog too, and he doesn't skype very well. It is an 11 hour drive to Oberlin (and just about as long on planes now that there's security) compared to two hours to UMass Amherst. Her nearest friend from HS will be studying three hours away in Pittsburg.
Sounds like the girls chose the colleges that they both need....if it doesn't work out, they could always transfer....
Oberlin isn't too far from me.
Congrats Rosemary, good luck to your daughters!
Leah is doing great, she is off IVs, started nursing today, and got to wear her first clothes today! She is up to 2.5 lbs!
Glad to hear about little Leah!!!
Good to hear Leah is doing so well!!

so good to hear about Leah!!!
She probably wonder what these things are. Glad that she is improving.
Thanks everyone. I'm so happy.
How is Lindsey??
She is good too, she even sent me a picture of Leah nursing! She still can't drive and doesn't like being dependent, and has a hard time leaving the hospital, but she is good. Thanks!
