Good for your son, Jen......hope he had fun!
Hurray for all victories, including math olympiad!
So sad here. DD2 cracked up the car (again). Likely too bad to repair ourselves this time. Problem with new drivers is if you don't let them drive then they don't learn anything, and then its back to being a parent taxi service too. I am really hoping she is understanding more about how to drive defensively after this.I do think she's starting to learn the value of money. She's been wanting a car for college too, but I think for freshman year its very easy to say no. If it's repairable, she has to do it!
Rosemary, thankfully she wasn't hurt! Cars can be replaced...but I agree about no car freshman year...too easy to take loooong road trips! Sherrie.....that's a riot!
UPDATE ON BABY ADAM ~
I'm feeling really bad that they have to face this. From Megan his Mom's FB post this morning.
"Baby Adam is not feeling well again today. We just found out that he has a fungal infection in his blood and no immune system to fight it... Hopefully the new antibiotics and anti fungal medicines will work by themselves. The x-ray showed the air bubble in his belly has gone down, but now he has the new problems with the blood infection, Poor baby cant catch a break. Oh and we had the 3rd doctor tell us (very unproffessionally) She doesent "THINK" he will survive in the long run. Keep your thoughts to yourself and give us the facts about whats going on. Take your survival rates and numbers and shove them.... to us his chances of recovery are 100%!!!!!! Sorry everyone I am very stressed out today. PLEASE KEEP PRAYING"
I'm with you all the way on that one, Celeste! I've seen enough miracles to know that percentages and doctors don't have all the answers. Signing off right now tonadd some more prayers for Adam and all of you. Hugs!
I don't understand some doctors, we had one say to us that there was "no hope" for my son and his seizures when we were looking for a what I felt like was the hundredth opinion, I felt like someone stabbed me in the heart. Going back to his original doc who was and still is a sweetheart told us NEVER to stop hoping, every day someone somewhere was looking for a cure. A few months later he got into a trial medicine program and he was helped immensely, never would have found it had we given up. Wouldn't have my grandson Domenic to this day had we stopped hoping and looking. I know it isn't cancer or a brain tumor but Celeste please tell them never to give up their hope♥♥♥ Adam is in my thoughts everyday.

Oh Celeste, the doctors don't know everything, and some just don't know how to keep their own depression or sense of personal powerfulness in check. Baby Adam comes to my mind as a little fighter, so I am praying that all of you will keep your strength and focus. Bless you all.
On my front, DD2 seems to be understanding what her responsibilities are about always being able to handle unexpected events on the road. DH got back from a long plane flight and declared the car worth trying to fix. This may have been the answer to my worried prayers for two years since she got a license. Some kids just don't learn defensive driving right away, so we hope she gets it now.
Daughters also must make their decisions about college this weekend.
I understand how upsetting that must be to hear and there are doctors who are much more tactful. However, it is a no-win situation for them. My wife knows this first-hand. When someone is paralyzed, the surgeons and acute care docs are notorious for never telling the patient how bad it is. That is left to my wife when she gets them in rehab. Then the family is totally shocked and very angry at her. It's irresponsible not to be honest and leave it to someone else. You just have to be tactful and always leave hope.
They have read up on this rare cancer, they know what they are up against, they just didn't need it said like that. I do realize there are lots of people in denial and I'm sure that is what that doctor was thinking. They are very spiritual people, they choose to pray than to face the ugly possibility and I can't say I blame them.
I agree. Doc should have been more sensitive/tactful.
A man who is in my Bible study told a story about his Dad....10 years ago, he went in for a triple bypass....he was bleeding internally, & twice more the surgeon opened him up to try to patch things...he finally told Bob that his father had 24 hours or less to live....that in 2,000 cases like his, there was no one who survived....Bob's Dad did, and was written up in the medical journal....never stop praying for a miracle......I will ask for prayers in church tomorrow for Adam.....
yes indeed. We have never stopped praying for Adam, all of us & Leah as well.
Hope the college discisions go well. Grandaughter from MN has let Wheaton college in MA know that she is coming last week.
Been away overnight and just saw this. Very tactless of that doctor. Will continue to pray here.
rosemary, thankful, DD2 wasn't hurt. Hopefully a good lesson was learned. Also, praying for their college decisions.
Sherrie, love that necklace! LOL! I would wear it, and everyone who knows me would understand.
Rosemary, sorry to hear about DD2 crashing the car. Good thing she wasn't hurt. They have to make mistakes to learn. I always learned things the hard way. Couldn't learn from others' mistakes. That would have been too easy. Now that I'm older and wiser, I learn a lot from others' mistakes.
Celeste, sorry to hear about the bad news on baby Adam. Will continue to keep him in thoughts and prayers. I can understand the frustration of having the doctor mention what he thought about his survival rate. That's like the docs telling us our sister will never get any better. We refuse to accept that. Wanda is a fighter, and I believe she will get better.
Karen
Prayers from Connecticut every night for Adam and Wanda from now until they are home and healed.
Thanks for the update on your sister, Karen. There are so many who need prayers and support, and i hope to contribute as best i can. It is nice that the Northeast DG community is so thoughtful, and for whatever differences there are among us, this is indeed a commuity.
It certainly is....lots of caring folks.....my stepson's wife was in stroke rehab from last June to this March....but she's home, and took a few steps on the sidewalk by Kennebunk Beach....a real miracle....
Found my grandparents (Mom's side) and all the family on the 1940 census online! How cool! Lists their rent too - $38.50.
Wow...that is cool!
very cool
