I've been piecing a lap quilt - quite pleased with the patterning. I've made it up as I went, but def Not crazy quilt.
I watched a movie this am - Finding A Family. Sad story about a 10 yo whose mother was in a car crash and it affected her mental state. Before the crash she instilled in him a love of learning (she became a PhD before crash) and he determined he'd go to Harvard. Movie took him through until he was 18 and graduated HS.
Lots of sad stuff he, and she, went through before the ending. Recommended to watch - bring your hankies!

Susan does Kim Delaney play in it? If so it will be on the Hallmark channel here on April 5. I love Hallmark movies, they are almost always a tear jerker sad or .

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

When Kel sees that I'm tuned to the HM channel.. he runs to the other tv!! Lolol!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Yes, it's an HM movie. I didn't realize that until you asked.....
and yes, it has Kim Delaney in it.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Hugs go out to you, Sue. Lord knows you don't need more financial problems.
Iowa? Wow!! my BFF's DH had to be interviewed in Tn., and they were living in La. for that truck driver job. Guess it's where the main office is at.
Good luck Tim!

Rained this morning and everywhere is wet as far as these eyes can see.
Pretty surprise to see an iris bloom, standing tall and erect in my primary asiatic lily bed. Hmm.. a rhizome might have been thrown in there :D

Susan, can you please share a picture of the lap quilt once it's done? Your friend is so lucky!

Good Morning Ladies,

Going to be an inside day today. Rain coming in, suppose to be real heavy here too. Then rain all day tomorrow. Good day for the races ^_^ Doug's dad and gf came over yesterday, brought us a box of food. OMG!! we have got sooo much as it is. I don't know why they think we need food???? Anyhooooooo I've got 15 pkgs spaghetti, 12 cans of off brand tomatoe soup, 4 bags of rice, pinto beans, white beans, lentils, oh man just too much to mention. A couple of months ago they came over with TONS of stuff and we have not even used half of it. They get this food free from churches. I am going to take a bunch of it to the homeless shelter. We have told Art several times we do NOT need it!!! and he just won't listen, so yesterday while the guys were gone getting hay bales, Judy and I had a long talk. So now hopefully they won't bring us a lot of food again.

I am still cleaning out the middle bedroom. I have some big boxes now so I can really get things out of here. Starting to get bored with trying to get this done ugh :(

Hello everyone! I am home! I will go back later and read what your all up to. Dylan is doing fine, he is back in the hospital, under a special light, as he has Jaundice, but will be back home tomorrow!

Dylan got so many smooches and cuddles for all of us!

Here's a pic of the lap quilt top!
I'm making a turquoise one for his wife Laura and have the top about 1/3 done (the blocks, that is - easy to assemble once they're done though!)

sisters, PLEASE PLEASE PRAY FOR MY SAMMY. HE IS IN THE HOSPITAL WITH KIDNEY FAILURE

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

((((((((Kitty)))))))))) Praying right now for Sammy!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Dear Lord, please calm Kathy's fears, heal Sammy of his kidney failure, and hold them both, lovingly, in Your Hands.
Guide the hands of those who are caring for him, in the hospital, and help them to find a solution for Sammy that will see him safely home in Kathy's arms. Lord, I ask this in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who died that we may live in glory of Your Name. Amen.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Amen.

Sis Kathy.
Whatever happens, just remember you and Mike do the best for Sammy.
Plus you have a personal relationship with a wonderful vet that will go above and beyond for him.

Susan, did you paper piece? Like that irregular pattern.

Welcome back LK!!

sending lots of prayer for sammy. sending hugs too.
well we ate out tonight and i m so full , even a picture of food made me want to toss my cookies ..oh why do i do that.
so i m sitting and digesting .
bbl

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

sammy's vet is out of town. he i at another vet. i talked with my vet and he said its 50/50. and he is sorry he isn;t here. i am so scared. thanks for the prayers

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

No, no paper piecing - much, much simpler than that!! Just place the center block in, right side up, onto a piece of muslin (whatever you want your unfinished block size to be).
Then pick a 2nd piece that's at least as long as one of the sides of the center piece. Place it Wrong Side Down on the center block, matching edges (now they're right side facing). Sew 1/4" seam. Turn the 2nd piece, and iron.
Take the next piece and place it wrong side down, matching another side. Sew 1/4" seam, turn the 3rd piece and iron. Keep on building out to the sides this way. You can mix/match patterns, or whatever you want to do.
I chose all blues, cuz that's Leland's favourite colour.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I chose the center (1st) piece to be a trapezoid.
In the 2nd picture, I already have the 2nd piece down/sewn/flipped and ironed, and am putting the 3rd piece in place ready to be sewn down.
The lap quilt I'm doing now is based on a center square, and it's much quicker. I cut strips of 1 1/2" to 2" and make most of the strips matching. Doing it this way it only takes me approx 10 minutes to do one block.

Doing it with an odd shaped center (trapezoid) means each block takes about 1/2 hour, using scraps and trying to find one that will fit. When I don't find one that will fit, I sewed several scraps together to make a piece long enough to put on the block. Some of the tiny scraps I used were only 1 1/2" and I needed a strip about 5".

Susan, I'm gonna reread the instructions later.
Biggest headache going on, that I can't absorb much. But I love the idea of using up all the odd scraps.

Cindy, didn't mean to ignore you earlier, but if Art's name is on some churches lists of 'needy' senior citizens, he'll get those donations. You're doing the right thing sistah, there are the homeless shelters that can use them.
At one time, the Rotary Club in Breaux Bridge were giving my late in-laws food every other month. I was at their home when they came with this huge box. I asked them why were they doing it. They said that they drove by the parish' seniors houses, see the condition of the house they're living in, and based their selection from there.
Were they shocked when my late MIL told them to stop doing it, as she didn't need help and instead she wrote them a check of $200 right there and then. Proud of her!
Poor guys, thinking that since they're living in an old wooden home... little did they know that they were receiving oil royalties!!

Sis Kathy, I feel your fears. Hope Sammy will be with you for a few more years.

Sue, now were you gorging yourself? Got to be stress that made you overeat.

Sistah Judy called and she's in Florida. Said she missed us all and still without a pc. Poor lady is bored!!
Anyway, she'll be seeing Thunder tomorrow, and will also make the trip to Cordele to see Sis Deborah!! Yayyy!!!
Of course I told her to give them hugs for us :D

LK, Judy congratulates you on the birth of Dylan. She would have given you a call, but she didn't have your number.
She also expressed sympathy over the loss of Karoosh.
Giant armwraps sistah!

good morning
Jaye hope your head feelsbetter today.
With tim gone i can get back on my eating again. Gorged myself since it was a prime rib LOL
rain and fog here today. not much i can get done in my garden. :(
hope everyone has a great day

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Coffee is ready!

Kathy, praying for your Sammy, hoping to hear good news soon.

Thanks for the messages from Judy, hope she gives Thunder hugs from all of us.

Susan, love that lap quilt!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning sistahs.
Happy Sunday everyone!

Sue, I would have stressed out on finishing a prime rib steak!! Lololol!!!

No caffeine for me today LK.
Didn't go to church as you can tell the time. BP is high, and that's where my headaches came from. I'm taking 2 kinds of bp med, and am out of one. Thought with only one, perhaps it will be okay.
Naaaah... now my left eye and temple is throbbing!! Won't mess with bp meds anymore!

Plans for the day: Nothing!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

sis lk, congrats on the baby. no news yet on sammy.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Jaye, you don't need to be skipping those meds. Your taking them for a reason.

Thanks Kathy. Please keep us updated on Sammy?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Little Dylan is going home this afternoon! His lab work is good, so he is being released!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

For sure LK, I'm getting the other one refilled. I never have any problems with BP until I came here!! Lol.. oh well.
Praise the Lord Dylan's home.

Sis Kathy, no news means Sammy's still under close observation.
Prayers continue for that wee one.

well all the chicks that i had well guess what ! 16 are boys ... i have 4 girls and there are 11 others that are mixed so i can't do anything with them grrrrr. sucker i was i tell you.
glad Dylan is coming home hooray hooray.
Jaye how is the BP ?
praying for Sammy to heal and be well .

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Sue, at least you'll have 4 brooders :D
I try my very best not to do anything that might hike up my bp. Unfortunately when Kel had to bring up his mother's stupidity (which I had begged him not to mention that woman at any time--only to inform me if she died)... I had to hold the sides of my head!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Jaye - holding your hand, while you hold your head......

LK - so glad Dylan's Going Home!

Sue - don't understand about the comment "11 others that are mixed".......?!?! Does that mean boys & girls?

We have a Snow warning - " Details
A low pressure system is forecast to develop over Northern Idaho tonight and move eastwards through Montana on Monday bringing heavy snow to parts of Southern Alberta. Current indications suggest that the heaviest snow will fall in areas west of highway 2, between Olds and High River. Snow may be mixed with rain at times and will be quite wet and heavy. Heavy snow should begin Monday morning and end Monday night. Total accumulations of 10 to 20 centimetres are expected."
20 cm is 8", but I suspect it will break some trees and branches, it being so heavy. Winds are starting to pick up......

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

jaye, TAKE YOUR MEDS.
sue, i just ordered another bater. my guinnea and peacocks are laying. i have about 50 guinnea eggs. gonna hatch some out. got baby chicks coming in april.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

he is so precious. just beautiful. good job grandma

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Awww.. he must be a good baby.. still sleeping with all that picture taking. You make a purrty grandma, LK ^_^

Afternoon everyone.
We went through a heavy thunderstorm that knocked off our cable for hours. No winds, just rain and thunder.
Haven't been outside to see whether there are any damages.
Before going to bed, there was this throbbing pain emanating from the inside of my right elbow. Used one of those heat patch and this morning, the pain went away.

Sis Kathy, any news on Sammy?

Sue, guineas make the best 'watch' chickens that will alert you when intruders come into your yard. They also make the best tasting gumbo, ain't that right sis Kathy?

Kel is at school for a whole week, and I'm without a vehicle until the evenings.
Got lots of sewing to finish. Can't be lazy anymore.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

sammy has made a little improvement, but not enough that his kidneys will work on thier own. the biggest concern is sammys age. he is way to young to have kidney failure

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

How old is Sammy?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

sammy will be 8 in august. he is a shih tzu, so his life expectancy is 15 years.

what a purdy baby. Must get his looks from his grandma. :)
