Sports Talk!! Part 8 Spring Training Edition

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh yeah. Doubt anyone had Lehigh!

South Hamilton, MA

DH will have to watch the news on the old set as Wisconsin plays at 6:10.

Thomaston, CT

There have been 7 upsets so far....I only picked 3 :>(

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Can I brag a little bit? DD was awarded the Coaches Award at the Indoor Track Banquet. She had a spectacular race when she outran two state champions. Coach said she gave them windburn on their shouders. The award was also for four years of dedication to running. She came a very long way from being a floppy, premature baby and a toddler that always sat down.

Next competitive sport concerns who can post the best prom dresses on the Facebook prom dress wall. No guys are asking yet, but they're all buying their dresses now so they won't have to worry about duplicating someone else's. Seems we ought to be choosing brackets on this one.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great - congrats! My son is doing track for the first time this spring. What is her distance?

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Wisc. won, Mom can breathe now! Quite the nail biter.

South Hamilton, MA

It would help if the Badgers would make their free throws. Tired, I guess.

Both jumper 2's sisters ran cross country. they are in their 40s so a long time ago.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

DD is a sprinter generally, often 600 m, but I think she was in a longer race for her surprise upset. She doesn't reveal her times. DS goes from 600 m to long distances when he can. XCountry and track are really great sports, though time consuming for the kids. The kids are wholesome, and it doesn't have the same social pressures as the team sports, which each of my kids eventually left behind. Don't know if they'll run in college clubs or teams yet.

Thomaston, CT

Congrats to your DD, Rosemary! Love to see the kids run.....

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

I admit it is a thrill, win or lose, because they look so purposeful, young and attractive. Wish I could have been there for that special race that happened in Boston. This is our last season now. Maybe they'll change their minds and run in college. Course I wouldn't mind if they joined an orchestra there either. Guidance and letting them go--such a delicate balance, and it comes of up kid sports regularly.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Tebow a Jet!

South Hamilton, MA

He might be better at a running back. They say 'down' on Sanchez. What they expect from a QB who only had one yer of college experience.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - Mets are 3-0 and both the Yanks and Red Sox are 0-3. Did I die and go to sports heaven?!! ;)

Big win for the Knicks too. Exciting finish.

Thomaston, CT

The Waterbury paper this morning said "Let's Break Up the Mets" We should be so lucky.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ha ha! I am sure Pelfry will end the streak promptly tonight.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Cleveland won last night, after losing their first 2.

Thomaston, CT

Pelfrey is unpredictable for sure.....he has brilliant flashes, then he forgets how to pitch.....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hubby is super happy at how well the Mets are doing and how bad the Phillies are

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

DH is a Pirates fan so was happy!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

The Red Sox finally won a game! Now the Boston media can take a deep breath and stop trying to convince all of Red Sox nation that the sky is falling.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you have that right gsox - dan shaughnessy should be held under some dirty water..........at least until he turns blue!

Thomaston, CT

UN-DE-FEAT-ED!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You guys think the Boston press is bad? Try NY!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

The press in New York is probably just as critical as the Boston media, but it seems to me like the Boston media actually tries to incite panic and make things worse. They are just feeding the neuroses of the Bostan fan base.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Same here. Especially with the Yankees.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i agree with your summary gsox - do not have enough knowledge of the NY writers although in national press they are always compared to each other as the worst in the game.

Thomaston, CT

Well, the Mets slide begins...it was fun while it lasted!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, and same old injured Wright.

Thomaston, CT

Yep....team seemed stunned last night.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And I think it's time to give up on Bay.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

4 games in - you should write for one of the NY papers :) Nick Cafaldo one of the best writers here in Boston is predicting good things for Bay this year now that he is healthy again.

Thomaston, CT

He may be healthy but his timing is way off......

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

O-M-G! 9-0 turned into 15-9.

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

What's funny is that when the Sox were up 9-1 or whatever I told my husband they would find a way to lose that game. I don't get booing the manager, though. Boo the bullpen. Oh well, at least the cutaway to the perfect game was cool.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ah - so it was YOUR fault!

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

Yep, it was! We will also have a frost now that everything in the garden has come ahead of schedule...blame it on me! My motto- expect the worst and you can never be disappointed. ;)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

easy to jump on - painful to lose

South Hamilton, MA

Do you think that Epstein knew that there was not much pitching available & jumped ship in time? If it isn't good it was his fault, after all.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

I do not think so - he just wanted to get out of the boston pressure cooker. Every year teams re-build their pitching staff and bullpen - still to early to panic - bard needs to go to the pen and start closing games.
