Oh, good tip......
offee Break #73
Last summer I found the tip: "can of non diet sprite or 7 up and 1 /2 oz bleach (sugar and disinfectant I guess) which worked VERY well in the large vases with cut flowers.
Ha - the Detroit comeback Chrysler commercial was filmed in New Orleans and La, but NOT in Detroit. Guess security would have been too much $$.
This is scary. Any upstaters hear about this near you??
http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/80beats/2012/02/06/whats-causing-the-bizarre-plague-of-tics-in-upstate-new-york/
Not far from here, About 25 miles, been in the news a lot.
Parents must be freaking.
Back to healthcare. In the past week, I have read that the gov is seeking to redefine both Alzheimer's and autism. In both cases, the change would EXCLUDE many people currently diagnosed as having those disorders. Coincidence? Maybe. But this comes after last year's change in recommendation for mammograms and papa for women. Again, in both cases, the change was to do it LESS frequently.
60 Minutes did a piece on this several weeks ago
I agree with Victor.. she totally lip synced .... and poorly.. I saw it right away and walked away from the tv to do dishes
On which, Bill?
How do we know you actually did the dishes, Allison? I think you mimed it.
you are right!!!
Re the NY people with a tic: There are ways to look for actual conversion disorders. Certain personalities just aren't susceptible to it, so an MMPI or a historical interview would help to examine that question, just as other ideas were ruled out because those exposures didn't apply to everyone. And a positive diagnosis would not mean it wasn't from a toxic exposure, either.
The move to change aspergers, autism and other diagnoses is not limited to New York. DSM-V which sets the official standards for diagnostic nomenclature is working on it. I haven't decided where I stand on that question, although I've seen several petitions to the DSM committee made up of psychiatrists and a few psychologists. Soon as insurance money is offered, you can be sure the diagnostic standards will be tightened.
When I said 'gov', I meant national, not state.
This is interesting.

I think I'll mime doing the dishes from now on. Thanks for the idea!
:)
After the video, I think I'm mime eating.
Scary news about those neurological tics......hard to believe so many would be affected at once.....I'm thinking air-borne toxin....
Why is there something on the page saying up to 5 photos may be downloaded? Are we being rationed?
I'd like to mime cleaning.
Very interesting about the tics. Very scary, though.
Tomorrow, if you think of it, my DGD, Maggie Pearl is having her adenoids and tonsils out. She has been sick and is finishing a round of antibiotics, but they are going to do the procedure on schedule. She will be at AI DuPont Children's hospital. So, tomorrow morning early I will need to go be with her brothers and get them to school. Hopefully this will help open up her passageways. She also is allergic to peanuts and eggs.
Good luck, Jan!
Whoa - how u do dat?
after you load the first one.. a new line popped up for 2nd, 3rd photos
thanks to Pirl .. she told me
Cool!!
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that is cool
Now they have to get it to where when you enlarge it you have the option to foward to next image
Hurry!!
MrsLidwell, I will have to try that with the Miracle Grow for cut flowers. Nice tip. Thanks!
Love the new feature! It's about time they let you download more than one image at a time. That was so tedious!
Great hummer shots, Allison, but then you always get great hummer shots.
Karen
Anytime!! I'd be a little afraid of trying the soda/bleach solution also. Surely bleach can't be good for plants, even diluted lol. I actually usually use bleach, or a cleaner with bleach in it, to wash out my plant pots, but I make sure to rinse them very well before putting a new plant in them. My MIL told me to do that as it will kill any potential harmful bacteria.
That is just crazy about the tics! And, as a parent, there would be no way in heck some dr could try to pass it off on me that its just due to stress! ESPECIALLY after finding out that there are other kids coming down with similar symptoms, at about the same time! I actually wonder if those kids that are affected could have the same class together and maybe theres something in the classroom causing this outbreak. Would make a little sense to me, since its only about 12 kids affected so far out of the entire high school! Or, heck, aren't we still considered to be in "flu season"? This year is the first year that they implimented combining the flu shot with the H1N1 shot (where previous years, it was seperate vaccinations).... and I know for a fact that there is a "small" chance of a neurological disorder as a potential side effect of the flu vaccine. Maybe that area of NY got a bad batch of the vaccine, those kids went and got the flu shot, and bam, had these issues? For all we know, if this is a possibility, it could take a while for the symptoms to show up after receiving the shot. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a cheerleader for not vaccinating your kids, by any means, but I will admit that there are some vaccines that I dont make my kids get... one of which is the flu one... and even moreso because of the combination of the H1N1 vaccine. I already have a child with a medical disorder (juvenile diabetes) that can eventually cause neurological disorders amongst other disorders and diseases... I don't see the sense in me having a dr inject a vaccine into him to help ward off the flu when the potential side effects can be even more alarming. Anyway, my point is... since the flu vaccine does have a "potential serious side effect" of a neurological disorder (though not one similar of tourettes), for all we know, those kids could have got a bad batch of the vaccine given to them unknowingly, or a "new and improved" version of it, with and unknown link to some symptoms similar to tourettes. I just find it odd that out of a whole school... only a handful of kids are having this problem, and the fact that it started all around the same time for these kids. This has definitely got to be something more serious than stress induced neurological problems!
I wonder if they'll ever find out what's causing those tics
The soda/bleach combination came from here
http://www.mastergardeners.org/picks/extendlife.html
and really kept my flowers in vases fresh for a long time.
The longer the investigation about the LeRoy teens tics goes on the more the information begins to rule out environmental cause.Even tho there are natueral gas fracked wells on the school property. If it was environmental there would be a cross section of diverse people affected. No boys ,no Faculty and tic symptoms would have appeaed earlier.
The latest theory is These girls have been tested and all have streptococal bacterial components. The easy fix would be antibiotics and steroides.
Parents ar ruleing out conversion reaction. The girls have not had any traumatic incidents in their lives.
Note they are all the same age, there is an adult woman in a nearby town with ticsin earlier reports .
We always expect a quick cure and I doubt that will be the case. The story will die and we may not know if a cause was found. LeRoy is west of me about 30 miles so we continue to get news.
I never really thought it could be linked to the natural gas wells either, to be honest, cuz, like you said, it would have affected a larger number of people in the surrounding area, not just this small group of teens, plus the adult woman (and I though I read that a younger child was also having the same symptoms?). Who knows, maybe it is linked to a viral or bacterial infection of some sort... or, maybe an allergic reaction to the medications they were given for the strep (though even that I think would be a stretch, I think) Keep us posted on the developments of this, please! As a parent of a child with type 1 diabetes, I try to stay as current as possible on various illnesses going around, and medical drugs for things that could be administered to my child by a doctor. More because, well, anymore I have a hard time trusting our current pediatrician group, and because I'm just an over-worried, overprotective mommy LOL!
I believe we need to be well informed about any medical preceedures, tests etc.
There is more of a tendancy for profileing in a medical setting. My doc has ordered a colonoscopy for the second year in a row no matter how I argued I didnt need one,
When I called the proctologist they said I wasnt due for 5 years and would notify me when it was time.
My doc walked into the consult room for a regular diabetic visit and asked "are you going to lie to me today?" I said" No do you want me to?"
Never thought of the flu vaccine as the cause, but certainly is a possibility....love the new photo upload...
Not sure what you mean by profiling, Jo.
Like the pics thing too, but agree with Jen.
Just got a message. Maggie is on her way home. Surgery needs to be rescheduled. She is too congested.
Bummer. Good luck.
