Thanks GG, the birds get to the cat food, before a cat ever appears here. I see a cat once in a while, mostly in the morning. You did a nice job with the Dove landing.
DAILY BIRD PICS VOL 429
Oh my goodness ginger, love that shot.
Nice shots Burn. Love the Crow. Nanny told me to throw cat food out to attract the crows to my back yard--neighbor's big fat tom cat ate it!!
LOL!!! I don't understand your crows GG! Mine come almost on cue for cat food or corn!
BestMissy, been reading about that Brown Jay and just dying to go see it and the Rose-throated Becard -- so many cool birds down south! Glad you got that jay! and all those great shots.
Wonderful shots everyone! I agree with Mrs. Ed -- this thread is going fast! Almost missed it. Looks like it's warming up for you northern folk. We're supposed to get rain -- yeh! I think we were downgraded from exceptional to extreme drought or is it the other way around? Hard to remember which is worse exceptional or extreme. Might get 4 to 6 inches which would be great.
Missy's shot was better, but I was still pretty happy to find the Great Kiskadee at Sheldon Lake again. I hadn't seen it in months and was afraid it had gone back south.
A friend has 4 varieties of hummingbirds wintering at her house which seems grossly unfair to those of us who have none! I may have heard one in my shrimp plants this morning, so keeping my eyes open. This was my best pic and of course I cut off its tail. Then again usually my clearest pic is one in which I have cut off the head -- way better to cut off the tail. I think this was one of 3 Broad-tailed hummers that she has -- 3! Such a hummer hog!
Wow so many wonderful pics from everyone! Great job guys!
*** Just a little reminder- If there is anyone who is interested in starting a Daily Bird Pics thread that hasn't done it before, please D mail me.***
Again, beautiful pics everyone!
Nanny, I'm amazed you even could find that creeper-great job. I love those fast little guys.
Gras, love your photo. Glad you got a tiny bit of warmer weather-if that's what you call it. brrrrr
Teddy, nice one of your wp.
Granny, cute shot of your birds and the waiting line wp. Awesome capture of the dove!
Lily, love your downy.
Mrs Ed, great photo of your hawk. Love that bell too.
Burn, great photos. Catfood, I'd forgotten about that.
Ginger, love your duck photo.
Elphaba, great photos.
I've been watching this eagle for 3 hours now, just waiting for it to fly off the tree. It's still there! Guess it's not hungry because I can see ducks out on the lake.
It's not the crows' fault Nanny, that big fat Tom cat is a hog!!
Love the hummer Elphaba. Fantastic.
Duc, wonderful shots all, but I just love the Finch cleaning his bill. How wonderful it must be to be able to see and photograph an Eagle. Mourning Doves are busy here also. Yesterday and the day before, I counted over 50 feeding on the feeders, and on the ground. Guess the bad weather brought them in.
Here is a Titmouse getting ready to select just the right peanut. LOL
New visitors; for years I've only seen one pair, maybe two pair though at different time. This is my first time seeing a half dozen of these Pekin ducks together. They maybe domesticated ducks on the loose? Duc, I've seen an eagle hunting in my backyard, that is something I don't enjoy watching, though I know they gotta eat. I'd rather see them eating "shushi" rather than those that has feathers like that of their own. Yike!
Kell, cute little duckling. Elphy you've seen some colorful birds, and how lucky is your friends who has hummingbirds wintering there nearby.
GG, your "crash landing" Mourning Dove is a nice shot. Burn, thus far I've not seen any Blue Jays around here, so I enjoyed yours. Thanks.
Mrs. Ed. would you please ask your sis and nephew to share the recipe (on our bird feeders thread)? I purchased a bag of nuts labeled for woodpeckers, I'd like to make some "cakes" for them.
While we on the subject of the colorful birds. Red, those sapsackers are beautifully colored. I've some nice shots of them. I agreed with others who commented that "too bad they cause much damage on young trees". I too had lost a young tree in the garden, but thought it was our work in the garden that caused the tree demise. Looking back I think I know better. I still love those "suckers". lol
GG, love that Titmouse that picks and chooses her/his peanuts. So cute!
hah, sorry GG I kept interupting. Those dee dee dees are cutie pies. They don't ever sit still, do they? lol
Gee lots of nice pics today....can't really pick a favorite!!
Was sitting here thinking this morning( I really try not to do that!) but any way....thought We haven't had a pileated woodpecker for a bit now. I guess because it has been so mild they just have had no need to come here for food. So of course you know who showed up later in the day!!
First to come was the Mrs.......
Nice shots Pileated Queen.
I guess I might as well give up on trying to get the Pileated to eat here, I can't figure out some way to entice him without the squirrels eating whatever I put out for him. So I will just enjoy seeing your pictures and have a bit of pileated jealousy if that is ok. We rent, we don't own our house so I don't think the landlord would like it if we started nailing things to the trees. I thought he would like it here, there are trees everywhere around this house and I guess I could try to find one of those pileated suet feeders, but they are expensive and I would have to order one, and I have no guarantee that they would use it even if I did, I heard one of their enemies are squirrels, and there are a lot of them here.
Granny, cute titmouse and dee photos. Where do you find such nice peanuts? We have to buy them in shells and then clean them.
Lily, love the ducks.
Red, pretty pigeons and wp. Nice shot of the muscovy.
Nanny, I'm again jealous. Love that pileated!
Here's a through the window closeup of a female house finch.
My hubby asked me if I wanted this new gadget for my camera (of course he was just kidding)-it's really awesome, check it out. I know Dave will soon have one!

And, doesn't it look like this cedar waxwing is wearing dark glasses rather than his normal mask?
OMG!!! How cool would that be!!
Hey that CW does look like he has sunglasses on!
Duc, love those shots, but that CW is a hoot. Wow, that new gadget is wonderful. So when ya gonna get one?
I buy the peanuts from Dr's. Foster and Smith.
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=8430
Free shipping over $49 and they are very reliable and have good products. Just purchased some safflower seed from them. If the Titmice keep at it, I will soon have to replenish my supply of peanuts. What is nice about these shelled peanuts are that they are pieces, so the little birds can easily handle them.
That gadget would be great!
Duc, Great window shot of the Kinglet! Love the Cedar Waxwing too!
Granny, I doubt I'll ever get one of those gadgets, but I can dream! Thanks for the info on the peanuts.
This morning I looked out at the tree line about 500 feet behind the house, and saw these two hawks sitting side by side. They stayed put long enough for me to get lots of pictures but it was so early the light was poor and I wasn't able to get anything to brag about. Then they both flew to a tree in our yard and perched about 10 feet apart, then flew off together. Thankfully none of the song birds showed up while they were there. I have never seen two working together like that.
