Love the robins in the birdbath and those TX birds are really beautiful.
DAILY BIRD PICS VOL 429
thebestmissy,
Great set of pictures. It appears you had as much fun as we did birding the same area last month. How long did you have to wait to see the Brown Jays? We kept missing them and spent more than ten hours over three days waiting before seeing them. Although, it’s not much of a hardship killing time in Salineno Birding Area.
This is a picture of the same Hooded Oriole perched on the same re-bar, as the picture you posted above.
Nice shots everyone. That Owl looks scary. Like the Texas birds. I had the fortune to see a few of them while in McAllen Tx last summer at the old pump station near the border. I have not seen a Sapsucker in ages. With the icy weather, I had lots of visitors today. This is one of them - female cowbird.
Grasmussen, We were very lucky in Salineno. We waited about 1 1/2 hour to see the Brown Jay. We got there at about 9 am, and it had already been there at about 8 am that morning, so we were a bit dubious. He showed up again at about 10:30 am, so we got to see him. That's funny that our Hooded Oriole photos are alike. I'll bet you did a double-take.
Very cool owl photos!

We have had an unusually large amount of I think they are supposed to be purple headed finches, they are a lot more this year than I have seen in a while. Here is a picture where I caught two of them on the round feeder at the same time, I thought it was a pretty good shot. Something is wrong with my Irfanview, I can auto adjust colors but when I try to save it it won't let me do it. That is why my pictures are kinda foggy, I take them through the front door glass.
Nothing new here, but I wanted to stop by and catch up on all your beautiful photos !
Thanks Resin, I don't know what is wrong with that darn Irfanview, it did not do that before. My hubby said I have to rename the file, I did not have to do that before either. I was thinking of loading another program to fix up the pictures, is Photoshop a good program to install? I have some pictures I would like to fix up and am going to try to get some more pictures this afternoon.
missy, you used the singular when referring to the Brown Jay. When we were there in early December, an adult and a yellow billed immature bird always came together.
Hadn't realized Brown Jay was quite so rare in TX
Resin, Brown Jays rarely cross the Rio Grand River, from the Mexican side. I was told the only records in Texas have been at feeding stations along a forty mile stretch of the river.
Actually, I wasn’t surprised by the Hooded Oriole photos. I believe only one male Hooded was there, and it always slipped in to the same feeder hanging on that re-bar.
Enjoying all of the great pictures. Love the Robins, Duc--they remind me of warmer weather. LOL
Here is a White Crowned Sparrow, a House Sparrow, and an out-of-focus woodpecker (not sure if it is a Downy or Hairy, would suspect that it is a Downy). Did not see the woodpecker until I uploaded the pictures.
Wow wow, when I stepped away for a little while and look at all those that I missed. Very nice pix everyone. I can't make individual comment, though, I enjoyed learning more Jays than just the one I get down East, and those out West that Duc often sees. The Owl is scary looking, I agree.
? Downy woodpecker? Cute little one.
Yep, Downy Woodpecker
Resin
I've been reading about an over-abundance of Snowy Owls to the North. Birdwatchers are going out to see one and seeing two or three at a time. Keep your eyes open, Northerners!
GG, I regcon the Robins lost their way perhaps? Nice pix of the Goldfinch and Cardinal combo. I think I've a white-crowned Sparrow, but it has yellow marking on the top of the head, is that a gender thing? It has been very mild a winter here. I think 'our' goldfinch is about to molt thinking it's spring. Oh thanks Resin for the Downy I.D confirmation as well.
Seems like forever since I saw a White-crowned...nice ones GG!
OMG. Missy and Gary, too funny about the Hooded Oriole!
I haven't seen a robin for ages, guess they are all up in Alaska.
This thread is going too fast for me!!!
Finally got a chance to download some stuff. First up, I've had good numbers (for me) of American Goldfinch. During storms, the most I've seen this winter are about 13. Here are some.
That is not fair that your hawk sits so nice on the fence for you!
Yeah Marna--what did you do, threaten it?
Oh what a beauty. You all take such good pictures. Amazing.
Great photo of the Hawk, Mrs-Ed !!! The one I see here like to hide among the branches in the neighbord's tree. DH saw one grab a Dove, behind the house, yesterday.
Best missy, beautiful assortement of birds. It great to see birds from other area.
Gary your caption on the Owl, goes so well with the pic. I'd stay back for sure.
Great pictures all.
The Pigeon are being a nuisance now, had only two at the start of winter, they have told a some friends of the buffet table here.
Nice shots Burn. Love the Crow. Nanny told me to throw cat food out to attract the crows to my back yard--neighbor's big fat tom cat ate it!!
