New room everyone! Come and show off what you have growing, or maybe winter sowing???

Not my garden, just one I found on Google.

Oh that pic is wonderous!

Never have seen a Mother of Thousands bloom, Debra. Good growing!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I love the picture you found on google, can we all move there?

Sure, why not? LOL! Wish I knew where it was!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

If we knew where that gorgeous garden is, LK, we might be able to recruit a new plant swapper. Look at all those perennials, including daylilies, not to mention the blooming Cherry Trees in the background. Our Cherry Tree is a herald of Spring and is in full bloom for my birthday.....yours is only a couple of days after mine, Debra. And by the way, I spotted Polly in your pic and she looks very happy under your care :)

We had a skiff of snow last week-end. What's up with this unusually warm Winter? I told hubby if it ever does get really cold, I want to see more snow. Not piles of it but a pretty snowfall with just a few inches. I just let the critters out and back in for the night and we have a cold rain falling. Tomorrow might be a good day for a pot of beans and cornbread muffins for supper or spaghetti with garlic bread.

Neener, if the forecast is spot on, you ought to wake up to a blanket of snow in the morning.

Hope the snow you already have doesn't spoil the visitors coming to your Daddy's B-Day party on Sunday, Susie. Living to be 99 years old is special and quite remarkable. I wish him many more!

beautiful shot of your kitty, Susan. I too wish for some snow, usually this time of the year we are under at least a half foot of snow, and it is so dry and dusty, I am taking pails of laundry water out to the yard gardens. * sigh*
oh well, I can just go down stairs for some spring or summer preview.. not of prennials, tho..

Love your basement gardens Debra - Court told me this morning he didn't like the lights I had in the front room on my plants. I told him you were my "inspiration" and showed him your pictures, above. He said "mighty fine piece of basement there."

Excitement here - well besides taking in another stray dog yesterday - my 'purple knight' alternanthera cuttings have flowers on them! I've seen pictures of them with flowers but grew this all summer with no blooms. So cute. :)

I took cuttings of a plant from Court's mom last week that I haven't been able to identify. I'll post a picture later. Maybe you all can help. Leaves are lanceolate and multicolored white, green dark green. I thought it was an alternanthera but it is not. Then I thought it looked like euphorbia marginata but it is not. It has black/dark stems. Beautiful foliage plant. I hope they root.

Have a pleasant Saturday.

p.s. This is a picture of the dog that I took on Christmas day. She'd escaped from her home, which I found a block or two from here. The owner was not in the least bit happy to see her and when he took her around back I heard her scream. :/

A couple of neighbor ladies were walking with me and one looked at me with the same look of dread and like, "oh (expletive)." One of my friends said, "She'll be back." Meaning the dog would get out again, and here she is sitting on the couch next to me today. I pulled her in off the street yesterday morning. Today I was about to walk her back home and stopped to show her off to the neighbor who helped me take her back Christmas day. She is the one I exchanged "the look" with, and now after she comes home from "Lil Gym" with her toddler she is going to take the dog over there to visit for a while. I doubt that the owner will be looking for the dog based on his lack of excitement before. The proximity thing is the only thing that makes it hard to harbor a dog that lives just around the corner. Keep you posted.

Who could be mean to such a sweetie?! She knows you'll fill up her belly and give her lots of hugs & snuggles. You have such a big heart, Manda. I wouldn't blame you a bit for keeping her.

Awwww (((Debra))), she sorta reminds me of your dear Duke.

Hubby raise different breeds of hunting dogs back in the day when trapping and selling pelts wasn't so frowned upon. That was a hobby of his long before I met him though, and he's been wanting a Beagle. Manda, you know the story about me picking one up for him and having to promptly take it back.....they do love to roam.

We saw our first wave of Robins today. So exciting! There were hundreds that lit in our Cherry tree chattering and singing and gobbling up the dried cherries. A few lone Bluejays were with them. Haven't seen any Cedar Waxwings and this late and warm I'm wondering if we will. They usually show up in early to mid January and pick the tree clean.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

ohhhh a beagle!!!!!! Oh gosh, I do hope you can keep him, they are such loving loyal dogs, never ever had a dog friend as good as my beagle..

I planted some more bulbs today and saw some I had planted already popping up//// no rain yet and so cold, no snow, no ice, an unusual winter so far, same temps without the wet stuff..

I have two yorkies for new doggie neighbors to the west of me now, they yipper yap at me when I am feeding the birds and squirrels and the two labs next door their treats, so I met those two yipper yappers out at the fence line with some snacks, they promptly sat and ate their treats and then just sat and watched me.. I hope the new neighbor to the south gets a dog, then I will be surrounded by dogs on all sides..
you have robins fruity? gee is it close to spring? joe says only two more months, but it feels like our winter is just delayed on the wet stuff, i hope..
I got a seed pod with ten seeds in it from my red tropical hibiscus, couldn't believe it! here is a hibiscus someone sent me, can't remember its name but it is going to be fun watching it grow this summer..

Love that beagle, he is so cute, but I agree, they are naturally hunting dogs and they love to run!
Debra, how lucky for you to get a seed pod from your hibiscus!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

gm, linda, that same hibiscus is all bloomed up this am.. I have set back some seeds for you to try in your little box I am putting together. What is your weather like? No rain, snow or even sleet here for a longggg time..

It is supposed to be 75 here today. No rain, but very humid. No complaints here.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

what is your weather in the end of May time? Sister and I are driving south to the coast and following it west a few hundred miles. Is it nice there in May where you are at?

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

How I wish you and a bunch of others were coming this way in June. Plans for our next Round-Up are in the works.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

We have a week in June reserved... I will present that to my sister as our 2nd bucket trip list destination..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Weather in May is quite warm. It will be nice to meet you somewhere. Let me know when.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

How far from San Antonio are you? I CAN"T wait to get out of Kansas for a while..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

160 miles. Not quite 3 hour drive. Let me know where and when, and I will be there. They have a real prett botanical gardens that will be in full bloom.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

The only time I had an opportunity to visit San Antonio was several years ago and it was in May. The City has so much to offer and I'd gladly go back. I ate lots of delicious authentic Mexican meals the few days I was there, and, Debra, you have to have at least one Texas size Marguerita. Our group went to the Alamo and also took a boat ride down the River Walk. What a beautiful place literally dripping in gardens and blooms. You would love it! Several out of the way places close to the River Walk had handmade Silver and Turquoise jewelry, and there was a huge market not far from downtown that had the most beautiful Mexican pottery and textiles for sale. I bet you know exactly where I'm talking about, LK.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I don't know that place, but will try to find it!

Crossville, TN

I love San Antonio!!

I have to share this: At church this morning when the children went up for their Children's Church (then on to Sunday School), The gal that was doing the program today was talking to them about plants...how do we take care of them? What do they need? She asked "Where do plants come from"? One little boy spoke up very loudly....CHINA. The whole church roared! Leave it to kids. Jo

Copied this for Faye!

Hello everyone, It's been another longggggggggggg two days here. Ray got up Sat. morning and couldn't put his weight on his left (good) foot. (The right one had 5 screws put in last year.) Took him to the Dr. She doesn't know what the problem is. The foot is red and swollen, and hurts when touched. The foot now looks like it would explode if a pin touched it. While in Hospital he was told the red place on the top of that foot was Gout, but the Dr. Sat. said she didn't think so. Took blood and we wait for results. The Hospital records showed no blood check for Gout, but they treated the foot as if that was the problem. If it is Gout, it cannot be treated with Prednizone (sp), the usual treatment because of the open wound from back surgery. I felt so sorry for him this morning. He has been so good about all that has happened to him and this morning he was almost crying when he said "honey, what else is going to happen" Ray is so good, it breaks my heart to see him always suffering.
Love & hugs to all
Faye

Awww - Susie that is such a cute picture and I'm sure he's delighted to have a little bit of his independence back. I used to try to find all kinds of gadgets to help my nana that way when she was still living at home. Then at the nursing home - o boy, your daddy is a lucky guy. :)

So the GOOD news (!?) first: I decided the right thing to do was to take the dog back and inquire about their intentions for the dog. As this was the second time I've taken her back after capture I didn't feel shy about saying, "would you be interested in giving her up to a good home?" The woman turned to me and said YES. Good GOD, the husband piped up, "I have a bag of Gravy Train if you want it." Easy peasy as Neener would say. I don't often get to quote scripture since mom passed away, but "ask and it shall be granted unto you . . .." It's a sin, but the woman (who seemed nice) said "we can't get her to come inside the house." That dog's tail couldn't have been any farther up her belly tucked between her legs. I couldn't drag her to the door when we got there and have to have my neighbor lady hold the dog while I went to the door.

Whatever was going on at THAT house, the dog has NO problem entering my house with a high head and tail straight out and up. AND she is now staying across the street with my nice new young neighbor family (mom will be 40 in March and dad is 40, just) with 2 girls (3 and 7 years) laid out on the sofa, doing yoga (she's got the downward dog stretch DOWN!). No problem going inside the house. Beautiful animal. Sweet as can be. Perfect. Just about 2 blocks away from the place she couldn't bear to be.

That fills me with joy for the dog and the family as they have been wanting a dog and took one in from a shelter over the summer but had to give it back. It started to bite/attack people. Sad, he was a nice little man. We thought perhaps he had some undisclosed health problems as he had a seizure or two. They were devastated, so receiving this gift has made every one happy. :)

About me - I have been dragged around the block by the new puppy and also had to pick up and carry that beagle for a ways. My hand had been bothering me last week increasingly and now I am incredibly worried. The hand injury from the spring, you know/remember? I am so screwed, I sent an email to my "lawyer" (crazy that I had to hire one) to ask about options this morning. I have been trying to get back into see the hand specialist since before Christmas but have been told that since my comp case is "over" I would have to pay myself. As If . . .! Since I was released by the doctor with no restrictions, there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to break a dog on a leash or carry one if I choose. It is NOT healed, and I am so worried.

Will try to take consolation in the happy dog story. And some of the bright colors here inside. Like this coleus that is not supposed to be doing so well in my bedroom window:

And this verbena that Froot gave me and I brought inside before the frost:

So glad to hear you got to keep the dog! God was on your side!
Love those blooms!
Sorry to hear your hand is still bothering you! Hope that lawyer can figure out how to help you! Workers Comp is a pain in the butt!!!

Jeezy Peasy I lost you all. Not surprising though. I've lost just about everything including my mind this winter. :0)

Daddy looks happy Susie! You are so lucky that he can be taken care of at home. I know it is a lot of work for you, but your reward shall be great.

Love the pretties Debra. I'd take some pics of my Christmas cactus, but that means I'd have to find the camera.

Manda you are the best. You know why. Hope that hand feels better soon.

Faye you give Ray a big old hug from me.

Had snow over the weekend and it isn't going away very fast yet. :(

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Faye, hopefully the medical staff will find out what is up, plz have them look for a blood clot, that redness and swellling sounds like what happened to Joe a few years ago.. hope they find out what is up..
Susie, Daddy looks so happy and sweet...
Amanda, I would contact a lwayer too..
Neener, yer not lost..

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Ha ha - Debra - I was giving HIM legal advice. Seems I have to do EVERYTHING myself.

Um, Neener, you are a peach. Fairy tales can come tru, they can happen to you . . .. Before I broke my hand at work this is the song that I would hum all day long. Maybe that's why you think I'm the best. :D

Susie - I would break my brothers' neck if they opened my mail. Good thing they are all at least 400 miles away. :D

LK - how sweet you are to send Susie's daddy birthday treats. We are all such a bunch of goodie goodies - I wonder where the mean girls hang out on DG? Ooops - I know. Never mind. ;)

Loveya!!!

Hello all..Singing praises and thank you's. Ray has been pain free today and his foot isn't swollen anymore. God is so good. Thank you all again for your prayers.
Now maybe I can stay here long enough to at least find out what is happening in your livers. love you all and I know I've been selfish in posting my problems and not reading the forum. I'm sorry and will try to do better. I really do care but had a poor way of showing it.
Susie do like the pic. of your Dad. Made me remember Mother when she was so dependent on her children. At least she had more than one daughter that was willing to stay at her home and take care of her. We took turns and stayed a week at the time until she died at 99. We did this I think for about 5 years and the blessing was ours to have gotten that special one on one time with her.
Nita & Martha, cannot tell you how happy your cards made Ray. Nita, still don't know how you find the time to make the special treasured cards& envelopes you send.
Love & hugs to all
Faye

Very clever recycling idea, Susie, and what precious memories. Our hallway upstairs is lined with photos and still have several boxes of old family photos to 'do something with'. Many are pics of my Dad when he was stationed in Hawaii in WWII, and he and my Mom after he came home. Some of the old black and white Kodak pics with 'pinking shear' edges are dated 1950's and 1960's.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So glad to hear Ray is doing better! Did you get any results from the Dr?

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)
