She's about to... 64... Spring time is coming...

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Jim is on the way home he just had to stop off at the drug store then to his bank then to the kids , then get grociers & Then i guess he will be tired out enough to come home & Rest . Now he thinks he;s super man.
i have daddy laying down he's been so worried over jim & so many other things that he is just wore out from no sleep for the last 5 nights .
i put a air mattress on his bed ask him to try it out for a hour so i will know if he will be able to sleep on it tonight
how sneaky went in a bit ago & he was out like a light.
I do hope this mattress will help him sleep . well i guess i need to go start our super soon you all have a great evening in case i donn't get back on .

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

I haven't been sick and would be worn out with a day of running like Jim's. Glad he's on the mend and Pops (and you) will get some sleep.
Frankie is quite a big handsome guy now. I'm surprised we haven't wild ones yet. They're so funny in Summer all in a line down in our field after a rain eating bugs.

Gave in to my itch and started a few veggie seeds today, and weeded.....again for well over an hour. Darn Winter weeds are driving me nuts and I'm out of Preen and seed starting mix too. Look out Lowe's, here I come.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

LK, what's the latest news with Heather? Are you a Grand Ma Ma again yet?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

are we godmothers yet?

I love those turkey shots of Frankie, susie.
gosh fruity, what is preen and seed?

dafs and grape hiyacynths are almost blooming here, but blooming everywhere around me.. when the violets start blooming it is time for spring
going over to daughters to dig up some trilliums, does anyone want any?
Susie, I also am glad your brother is doing better. Hope Dad continues to sleep on his new bed.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No baby yet! She is home from the hospital, with new asthma meds, and the Dr. told her that if she has not delivered in about 10 days they will induce her.. Still waiting!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm out of seed starting mix, the brand I usually buy if Jiffy. It's mostly vermiculite and is very lightweight and fluffy. Preen is a granular weed control. It doesn't kill existing weeds but helps prevent new ones from popping up: http://www.preen.com/products/preen-garden-weed-preventer

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Really? TWO birthdays! HAPPY BIRTHDAYS to you both.. hope you had good days and good times.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Yes Happy Birthday to Betty and I have been wondering about Jax toooooo....

Susie I love the pictures of your turkey. I wish I didn't love animals sooo much. I would have so many more. My heart can't take all the breaking. I wonder what it would be like without critters in the house, then i think it would probably feel very empty. Would I be lonely?

I have to leave the house and hide in my secret hut out in the yard to get away from them the way it is now! :D

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm well into seed starting. I may be in trouble soon if the indoor seeds germinate as soon as they're supposed to. I have them in the iguana's room, and she was so intrigued with what I was doing today that she decided to go over there and climb those shelves and knock a bunch of plants down, pulled a pretty thick ficus limb down in the process. :/

She weighs 8 pounds or more. Don't suppose she'd have to hang on that branch long. I tied it up tight tight tight. I wonder if I'll be able to save it or not. geez - I've been working so hard and for so many years on that plant. She really made a mess out of it years ago. -sigh

That's all for now. I am using the online journal this season to keep track so I'll go there now and keep entering my seed starts...

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Happy Birthday, Betty and Jax! I'm late to your parties and can't bake worth a flip so I copped out and sent ya'll ecards.

Rita's just trying to help ya, Manda. (should I duck and run?) My cats are such nosy critters too. Round-Up, Shadow's runt two years old has belly tight as a drum waiting to deliver kitties and we don't have a clue who the dad is unless it's a big yellow Tom cat. Night before last we heard a crash in the garage and still haven't found anything broken, but I know something out there bit the dust. Crazy cats but I love em.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Happy Birthday Betty and Jax.

Hope everyone is ok, those storms ripping thru everywhere, golly I sure worry about you all.

Guys I don't know what the deal is, but following my husband home last night and a deer runs into the side of my car! again, how can this be? I know I drive alot, but this is the 5th deer if I counted correctly, I lived out here 20 years and never had an incident with a deer! 3 deer have hit along the rear quarter panel of my car (at different times), 1 totaled my last car on New Years Eve coming home a couple of years ago, and this one has wiped out the passenger fender over the tire and bent up the hood, which in turn busted the head light and on and on. Then just to make matters worse it was still drivable with alot of strange rubbing sounds going on, and just coming into town and the police are parked on a cross street and he pulls out behind my DH and I knew he was going to stop me and I get stopped by the police for my headlight being out!!!! He didn't give me a ticket, but dang. DH has been on me to buy a new car, so I don't know how helpful he will be, dang I don't want any stupid car payments again! Sure don't want to turn it into the insurance company, good grief....

Ok sorry I am thru whining.....I think....well out loud any way......hopefully.....geehz! rofl...I have to put it into prespective, it is just a car, it is just money, and retirement may never come at this rate.....sorry again said I was going to stop whining....well out loud... ;)

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Mmmmm - sorry happ - that would rattle me too. Go right ahead and whine, we're here for you...

Is there new development going on so that they are having to migrate/travel different corridors in your area? That might explain why you're having such trouble.

I admit I am afraid of that - you all know what a sissy bleeding heart I am, and it would hurt me if I had an encounter like that.

I know it can happen in broad daylight too, but I try to avoid driving at night if I can help it. Makes me sound like an old lady, and I ain't, chronologically speaking.

A.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Good morning everyone. Do hope no one is in the path of the storms. It is raining here and I'm paranoid, always looking at the sky like I could do something to make it right..duh!
I've never hit a Deer but have had to hit brakes hard a few times.
How about Baby & Mom? What's the good (I hope) news?
Susan, wish I had energy like yours and Debra's. My yard needs me so bad and my energy level is quite low.
Did have to take Ray to 5 different Doctors this week and by the time we get home I'm pooped.(or lazy) Ray still has the tube in his Kidney, on oxygen 24/7 and as weak as a kitten. His coughing seems better because he has prescription cough med. Mon. the Doctor trips start over but hope it won't be as many.
Hope each of you will have a great week end and a super week.
Love & Hugs
Faye

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Awww, Faye you're the best wife ever. But then again if I had a peach like Ray at home I'd be the second best . . ..

Hugs to both of you. You are in my heart. :)

A.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Happ, sounds like those deer like your car! Maybe it is the color, or just lots of deer scent on it? Sorry, the devil made me say that! LOL!

Faye, were still sending prayers for a speedy recovery for Ray, and you need to get some rest please? A few (((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))) for the both of you!

Still no baby...

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

In VA and WV, both States from our own not-so-pleasant up-and-close personal experiences with deer, if we tell our insurance agent "I hit a deer", it's always the driver's fault and expense to repair the damage. But, if we say "A deer hit me" they'll process a claim and mail a check. Crazy laws, but the deers win either way dipping in our pocketbooks. happ, it sounds like you're long overdue for another vehicle anyway with the miles you drive every day. One that's hardly been used that would pass a third party's inspection wouldn't have such a high payment like a new vehicle, but I know you know that. And *snickering* I bet Debra would be glad to take you for a whirl in a few Hondas.

There isn't a lazy bone in your body, Faye, and know how you regularly work rings around me at the height of Summer. Remember all that granite, bags and bags of potting soil and mounds of mulch you've spread? Rather, I think you're exhausted from the stress you're under, and there's nothing more tiring than having to visit the doctor, multiple ones in your case. Our sweet Ray just has to get better.....really soon. Love you bunches.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Faye, lots of hugs, and sitting is doctors offices is hard work for sure, so you need to rest. Nothing lazy about that at all.

When I met up with Debra last year I think, I went for a drive with the sales guy in a Honda Fit, it was really nice car. For sure going to look for a used car, new cars are out of my price range, because they usually have over 100,00 miles in 3 years or less and paying off anything in the new price range is just too much money to pay out. I have this idea that once the loaning institutions came up with 5 and 6 year notes the price of the cars followed.....

My gosh in light of everything I have no reason to whine, just a momemt of good grief.

Those storms ripping thru the south, are horrible and it is just now March. Long spring ahead of us.

Have some hibiscus blooming and going to have a brug blooming here shortly....

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

gosh, Joyce, I am just glad it wasn't worse, i talked to someone whose hubby is paralyzed from a deers legs came thru the windshield broke his neck..
sure will be glad when Ray is 100 percent for Faye,,and well, for himself too..

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

You guys are the best! No way could I ever have better friends. Thank you all so much for making me feel better about my not accomplishing my much needed yard work. LOL, not worried, it's just like my house work, It will wait for me because no one else is going to do it. BUT, when Ray is well, he does house work when I am working in the yard..Yep Amanda, Ray is a peach, the very best. We're off this morning to have a CT Scan on his kidney, and Wed. Dr. Ogle will X Ray through the tube looking for the kidney blockage. Thank you so much for your continued prayers.
Joyce,do hope you can find a car that suits you and one that you can have around as long as you want.
Wishing a blessed day for you all.
Ray & Faye loves you.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praying for good test results Faye!

We have our hummers back for the year! I put the feeders out yesterday, and they are feeding this morning! I am so excited to have my hummers back!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

That's so exciting for you, LK. Are your hummers Rufous? I hung feeders out several weeks ago in anticipation of our Ruby-Throated returning. Still too early I guess, even with our non-Winter.

Ray is back in the hospital with a 102 fever from another tube infection and probably has kidney stones. They won't know the results until tests are run later this week, and she also mentioned he will be on antibiotics longer than he was the last time. EMT's picked him up in the middle of the night. Faye has been there every minute and is spending tonight with Ray in his room, which was just assigned a little bit ago after being in the ER since 3:30 this morning. She asked all of us to please keep praying for them and sending good thoughts. Faye sounded good, even with all the stress she's under. As always, she sends her love.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

My hummers are black chinned hummers!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

I've tried so many times to get decent pics of our RT's. They're quick little buggers and usually outsmart me flitting from one feeder to the next. Never have seen Black Chinned except in books and on the web, LK, and hope you're lucky enough to get pics of yours.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

When they start coming in more, I can feed them out of my hands. I will get pictures later, and post them.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

How cool is that!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh dear, poor Ray. I will continue to pray for them both, I admire Faye, she is a strong loving woman.

Wish my hummers would come here.. guess we are still too cold?
I have a tulip blooming in my basement.. somehow I forgot I planted a tub of bulbs, they are all up, and the moon light amaryllis is shooting up a stalk, I hope that means a good thing.... go to my basement thread to see the blooms of the tulip and the calico pipe vine.
Fruity your box of seeds went out today. Have I forgotten anyone?
Joyce? get on craigs list to look at cars before you buy one, okay?

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Linda I envy you your hummers and feeding them out of your hand must be such a joyful experience. I just imagined it and I think I would be overcome - it would probably make me cry. -sniff-

um . .. sowed some more seeds into milk jugs yesterday and check and lo' - there are seedlings in my jugs from 2/27 and 3/2!

I have sown over 50 different kinds of seed now. If you are bored you can look at my new efforts of keeping the journal online. I feel like I need to be doing something besides playing with seeds, but I have no motivation to look for work or do school work or anything this week. Last week too - because of the cat. And the week before because of the cat. HA!

O well. I will try to talk myself into it slowly. I don't want to get ahead of myself. For sure I am not anymore able to look at work in horticulture which upsets me because of the hand injury - last year's - not this week's unfortunate cut.

It changes everything. I don't think a career counselor would help. When people ask what I am going to do with my degree, I respond, knowing full well, that the economy is going to dictate that and whoever hires me is going to be where I'm going.

Blah. Uplifting, eh? Super Tuesday my arse. I hardly noticed a thing.

Have a positively sunny day. :)

A.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Where is your journal? I want to see it. Gee, I hear ya about the job industry. Too bad you aren't qualified for disability? Or is that out of the question?

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Nah - not disabled - it'll be a permanent injury with a permanency rating, not disability though. Of course, the expert doctors will disagree, but since it's my dominant hand, I can't really use a trowel without sensing the injury. Even though it's healed a lot since it happened, I still have a stretching/pulling sensation and occasional stab of pain doing the smallest normal everyday things.

Anywho - here's a link to my journal:

http://davesgarden.com/tools/journal/viewbycat.php?cat=98685

I think you'll be able to open it up as public. It's in there with the blog and other stuff under "my tools."

I have to shut this thing down or I'll be on here drinking coffee all day!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Amanda, that link does not work, it say's no new entries?

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Amanda I've fed the hummers here out of my hand before. It is an awesome experience to have them land a on your hand. Takes a lot of quiet time and patience to get it to happen though and you have to sit awfully still. Not sure you could handle that. :0) Love ya ya know..

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

O Neener, yer silly.

Linda - try this link:

http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/hp/AmandaEsq/

The first one worked for me, but maybe it's just me.

Enjoyed a couple of hours on the back porch today before the parade of neighbors came to call. Now I'm out back in my secret (not so secret) hidey hole and trying to get some work done. Ha ha - see how well that's going.

xox
A.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I found it, I had to click on your blogs...

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

We can click on anybody's name, then see on their page if they're keeping a Garden Diary.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Nope - didn't get any work done out here. Maybe tomorrow I'll come out straight away and hide in my hidey hole.

I don't like that name for my hut - sounds too much like hiney.

Maybe "Mando's Hideaway" a la Billy Crystal's "Fernando's Hideaway"

Or just the hut.

Or my oasis.

I'd like to maybe make a sign to hang in or out. It's a work in progress. I'd take pictures but I don't think they would do it justice. It's such a nice place of quietude.

Better git before I fall asleep here.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

morning all just a quick hi for i have a couple apts today to take care of all is well my little sis is coming today to sit with daddy so i can go chat soon when i get back .
have a great day .
susie
wishig everyone well .

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ladies, please say prayers for Susie, I just got a phone call, and was told she is in ICU, with possible pneumonia. She collapsed at home, and was rushed to the hospital.

Susie, get well soon please?

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Holding you close, Susie, for a speed recovery!

Been weeding again most of the day and tackled the last two Pampas Grasses. I dread moving the clumps but they're taking over one whole end of my little Spider Daylily Garden. So much for a 'dwarf' variety that wasn't supposed to get over 4' tall and 2' diameter. Hubby said he'd use a chainsaw to cut the clumps in pie slices before I dig and plant them around the guide wires and telephone poles. Win-win and is one less reason for him to use RU or have to weed-eat.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Oh Dear, Poor Susie! Prayers for her and her family as she recovers. So much on her plate right now, hope she gets rest while she is forced to stay down.
Fruity here u are eradicating pampas and I am trying to get it to grow! LMSAO
