Betty, I just sat here and cried. This is the first time I have let the fear of surgery get to me and the shawl is such a comfort. Jaye is right - it is a very special piece and Judy, I can't thank you enough for your wonderful vision.

Victoria Harbour, ON

And so you should feel good, meeting you and spending time together I know just how special you are..

Holy/holy talk about howling, not sure what the night will bring..I'm wishing for a snow day or bad eather day tomorrow. Thank goodness there isn't soft snow to be blowing. We left work at 4pm today as it was pouring rain, heavy fog and calling for flash freeze..what a winter.

Just got off the telephone with Darlene, 1 1/2 hrs ig gabbing...passes her night. Talking about reno's to my basement for lack of anything heavy to talk about. She is hoping to co e paint tomorrow with the girls, Ann won't for sure seeing as she called me last night to say she had been ill all week and wasn't coming for bingo tonight..so glad Darlene will try to keep her Tuesday painting going..am sure there will be days when she just can't but that is just normal..

Almost scalded myself, been getting brave trying to lift a coffee with right hand without left helping out..coffee all over..gong to try hot chocolate with peppermint in it and be watchful then off to bed I go...

Enjoyed your company today,
Sleep well my friends

Good lord willing we'll gab tomorrow!

Hello To All !

Betty - The thing I've procrastinated so long... I have one of my Mom's scrapbooks from when she was in nursing school...she must have been 19 or so? pages have crumbled to pieces. Sis was going to throw it away. I want to somehow arrange it all in a new book. I did find in it a love note from Dad to Mom... that is a treasure....

Mom was just like ya'll though... we found many many unfinished projects... knitting, etc.
Dianne mentioned a story about one of the items we sent our "secret Santa"...those humbugs she sent me were wonderful for my cough.
I had the "Kiss me ... I'm German" shirt idea from... remember Betty & Ya'll back when we had the foreign Exchange student? Rico - yes German with an italian name. He spent a lot of time with us. I bought him same shirt for Christmas and it became his favorite shirt...
Suse - missing you.... !
Susan... maybe it's time to comtemplate a move? just think about it...
Thea & Judy - isn't it nice to get a little something in the mail!? Thea I thought about you... a lot with that book, you know I would not have found it... you got me looking for it... and it's heart moving but I knew you'll like the German midwife.....

Judy - I love reading your posts when you are such a good mood I can 'hear' it in your voice...
Barb... Love you TOO!
Okay - I'll pop back in a bit...

What a night!!! It was a "blast". NOT! Heard a crash...thought the front storm door flew open. It usually bounces back and latches. A few minutes later...another stronger crash. Shane and I went to look, opened front door....and storm door is in three pieces broken, still on hinges. Just as we say a few "OHHH Crap" words...the door swings back towards us...and the glass crashes and shatters all over the entrance and front porch. Top half of the storm door window is shattered down the end of the porch.

We no sooner get that cleaned up, glass inside and out.....and sit down, we hear another loud crash. My garden chair on the front porch went flying along with a planter full of dirt....one of the large coffee cup styles.....that is smashed. Never thought the wind could move that as I barely can! Will be a big clean up tomorrow!

Baton Rouge, LA

OMG Debbie - are ya'll in a Tornado ?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh, please be careful. Have Shane move things so they don't come flying through a window!

Lyndonville, NY

Just a heavy wind storm. We moved everything...look everything down.

It has died down to about 40mph....

Grrr!

Going to bed! Lets hope there isn't a yellow brick road out front when I wake up in the morning!

Baton Rouge, LA

"click your heels Three times" There's no place like home !

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Debbie, that's crazy YIKES hope nothing else gets broken :(
I am trying to settle back into work...and lonely home...I get a little depressed after all the kids have been here, and then gone....I find it too quiet, have to re-adjust......

I will just about get into a routine, then I will be taking a week off for hubs, He is having back surgery on the 24th, fusing a few more discs, this time very low on the spine. and when I return to work I am hoping I will have mostly nights for a while, so he won't be home alone for very long, I will go to work and just a few hours later my son will get home.....I asked for the schedule to be most nights, but was told "they would try to accommodate" , no guarantee ??? I do usually have to work at least two early shifts per week to cover co-workers days off....right now I feel like my luck I will get all days!!! just have to wait and see..

procrastinate -- I have a few quilts I have been working on for a few years. and they are actually pretty close to the finish.
I have quite a few quilt tops finished, and many blocks with sashings cut, just need to put together. for a very long time the ONLY quilting I did was by hand, so it took quite awhile, so I have tops ready.....and now I am learning more ways of quilting on machine.

I think I already mentioned my secret Santa thing, had something else planned, ordered fabrics, they did not come with other stuff, called store, items now out of stock :( had to change plans :( luckily saw item on a cruise around blog land....yahoo made table runner, before, and after being sick. got a lovely note from Santa via Dianne :) found the Christmas Cowboy Santa in a box of many wooden pieces, and just knew I had to send it to Dianne and Santa.. had much fun looking for, then at coloring books:) trying to decide which to send. and I just love all the goodies I received ^_^

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Holy Jumpens...the wind Debbie described just woke me from a deep sleep!!
Sounds like a freight train is driving through!!
Nothing can fly off around our house because it is all weight down by snow and ice, but our poor trees are creaking and cracking like crazy!!
Better press send because lights are flickering and most likely we will loose power.

Stay safe Dianne and Debbie!!!

Verona, ON

Evening everyone!

Have my red wellies on just in case!!! Like Debbie we have wicked winds blowing across the lake, west to east. While it is 17*F out there it feels much colder. The cats are running around the house bawling every time the winds gust up. We too like Betty were warned about a flash freeze tonight. Our lane is a skaking rink even after it was sanded today.

Results of DH's Cscan were telephoned in while we met with W's Radiation Oncologist Monday. He has several blood clots in his neck and lung area. He was started on Mon of shots of Fragmin a blood thiner. He is to receive 28 shots to start to the tune of $1129.69. Gulp! All but $6.11 is covered by insurance. Whew! I don't know how some people could manage that huge bite out of available income. A visiting Nurse came today and will come again tomorrow to supervise me while I give the shot, then I will be on my own. Not concerned at all about doing it.

Lights are flickering again so I think I had better get off of here.

Dianne

Verona, ON

Ahhhh see you and I are in the same boat Thea. You stay SAFE too!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Sending hugs and prayers your way Dianne...hopefully the blood thinners will do the trick and that the blood clots will be all dissolved!! So glad you don`t have to pay for the meds!!

Well I am off to read, because I surely can`t fall back to sleep with this wind blowing outside!!
Lights flickering again...stay safe!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, brrr high winds and snow
Looks quiet out there , for now at least, Barrie got him badly with storm so will wait for Suzanne to call re going in today..I would just be as happy staying home..Darlene just call to check on what weather was doing here..not sure she and the girls will come?

Off to get ready, gab in a bit

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ladies, sure h ope those trees don't crack and tumble down on your homes!
Morning everyone!
Dianne, those shots work pretty good. My Sister was on them for about a month, and all is well now!

Lyndonville, NY

No power loss last night, all is well here. Just a mess to clean up in the yard and front porch.

I have PT, DS is going with me.....

Stay safe today!!! Snow is starting up here....I just love winter. NOT!

Debbie

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning everyone...what a night!!!
Lost power during the night but just for a bit...trees are still all standing and roof still on the house...lol

Debbie!!! don`t say the S-word!!! Beautiful sunny day here but once again bitter cold. Have fun at PT and I hope you won`t be too sore afterwards.

LK I am soooo jealous of you...bet you are sitting there with shorts and t-shirt!!!

Wishing you all a great day...off to sewing!!!
Love and hugs
Thea

Victoria Harbour, ON

Here at work, was a beautiful drive in, brisk, as you walk you can hear the snapping, trees ladden with snow, highway clear but yes Barrie did get more snow than we..unless the wind picks up again it will be a winter perfect day!

Debbie, omg you had quite a time of it..on Breakfast television they were showing storefronts that had windows break, many power lines down. Sure hope you get to your appt. and home safely before the snow piles up.

Thea, think Dianne, you,me and Debbie have same weather...good day to cozy in. Tomorrow Paul is in court for a client, Suzanne at Trustee's office so just might put the telephones home tonight and work from home tomorrow and Friday..what a long weekend that would be.

Dianne, thank God for our health system and coverage..wow, what on earth could you do buy find the $$$ if you didn't have coverage..sure hoping the needles work. Suzanne and Cathy are prone to blood cloths so they have taken same and with a watchful eye are fine.

Thunder I'm so enjoying quilting on my machine..I do them in panels..2 rows at a time with sashing on then as with the 12 Months of Christmas quilts only have about 5 or 6 rows to hand sew on the back of the quilt..

So this weekend I'm picking the following: finishing Suzanne's quilt and if I do work from home Thurs./Fri. hope to finish the 5 scrap sewing bags..there I've said it now I have to do it right?

Brought in stained glass pieces to foil today and Suzanne's quilt, changing a few blocks so have some wripping to do..that should keep me out of mischief for the day

Verona, ON

Betty was your foil still in the packages? That will help determine whether they are usable.

WIndy and cold here. The boiler came on last night and I have it set at 59*F - guess I must of let the woodstove get too low. No hydro for awhile last night so I have been running around playing catchup with the clocks.

BBL
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dianne the foil does not seem oxidized and looks ok, was in a tool box..one I'm not so sure of the 2nd seems fine.
Should have brought my foiler in, quicker on most..right now I'd foiling rocks and agates. Looked at the feet for the jewelry boxes and they seem to have rust..would you say I have to repurchase???

Called Gail/Ken at the stained glass studio, they are located on one of the back concessions, will drop in tomorrow early evening to pick up supplies and just maybe go Saturday for a few hours, get me back into the right way of doing things.

My question to you though Dianne, is light steel wool, do you think if on it's own I was to sand the piece I almost have done a bit (is tacked is most areas) if it just might be enough to remove oxidation????

Know you can't get back into it right now but you could help an old soul finish some projects..lol

How is Warren this a.m.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

My goodness you all you had southern wind storms! That's crazy!! Glad everyone is safe,

Debbie have a good time at PT and be careful cleaning up that mess, I can relate to you on that one. Those straight line winds can be just as nasty as a tornado.

Betty glad you got to work safe, I've been wanting a snow/more common ice day since June, haven't had one yet and usually by now we've had a few of them.

Well I'm at work and need to get to working, I have a phone call to make and I don't want to make it, I want someone else to do it for me. LOL!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Crissy, sooner you make that call, you can tell yourself, whew, I am glad that is done with! ^_^

Victoria Harbour, ON

Be brave Crissy , make the call and get it behind you then you can enjoy the rest of the day!

Much the same, usually by now we've had 2 or 3 if not more days

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm sitting here, crying, at work.
The person I have to work with the most, is an emotional bully! He tries to tell me I should know something that he has not told me, and then berates me if I don't follow a process I've never been shown.
I had a quick meeting with him (called by me) to explain how I'm feeling, and that I really Need this job, as my DH is newly out of work, and that I want to do a good job.
He asked me if I'd done a process re: an email I'd gotten yesterday - sent to someone else really and only cc'd to me.
I said I was going to ask him how to do it and he said "You KNOW how to do it". No, it's a new process, but he's angry at me now, and all I can do is cry.
I threw an empty Kleenex box at him. I have to leave the company - I can't work with this man - he's not realizing I can't read his mind about processes that he hasn't taught me for a specific file that comes in...........

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ahhh Susan..how absolutely horrid!! Are you heading home? Why not ask Bob to come get you, not good to drive when as upset as you are. Life is cruel!!!

Verona, ON

Betty using 0000 steel wool should get the oxidiationoff enough that you can solder. Remember to clean off the bits left after you finishing with the steel wool.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will pick some up on my way home..do I use a cleaner or just the steel wool?

Finished foiling 2 jewelry box pieces and almost finished the lamp pieces..1 piece missing but it's a blue I think I have or kind of standard royal blue waterglass

thanks for your help

Verona, ON

Just 0000 steel wool should do it. The cleaner just is one more thing to get off of the foil and glass before you solder. You might want to WIndex the areas you steel wooled before you solder. Try the steel wool on the feet for the jewelry boxes. If they are already rusted there is nothing to lose.

(((Susan)))

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Dianne..not sure how patina will stick to the feet, probably only about $4.00 to replace so not worth the hastles! June's husband made me stands for doing lamp shades..levelling when doing solder, now to remember where I hid them lol

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

During the time when I was sitting at my desk, after Dmitriy left, my boss Andy came by to talk to me and I was visibly upset/crying. I told him I could not work like this, that anger in the workplace is not acceptable and I cannot handle anger anyway, that I didn't feel I should have to. I told him I would have to leave the company. He hoped we could still work this out. I told him I didn't feel I could talk to Dmitriy in work-related stuff........ He went and spoke to Dmitriy, and Dmitriy came to talk to me. He didn't say anything about the upset, but he was gentler, and he spoke about something entirely different. He was incorrect, and I told him that it wasn't the way I knew it to be, so he said we should check with Andy. When I checked with Andy, I was right and he was going to explain it to Dmitriy.
Andy is going to intercede in everything until I feel comfortable knowing what I should, in my job, and also so he knows what the process is. In the meantime, I believe Dmitriy's been told he should check with Andy on stuff, too. At least, that's the impression Andy gave me.
We'll see how things go........ I told both of them that I couldn't afford not to work here....... but I will leave if I need to, and they know it. They both know that Bob had lost his job.......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good for you Susan for standing your own, maybe that is all it will take..remember, with all going on, you are a bit tender and easily could take things to heart when they could be set aside...know that's me when I'm upset!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I know, Betty - Bob always tells me to let it pass me by, but I'm a (as you say) tender sort, and cannot put anger and such aside as easily. Both my manic-depressed sister, and my dat had tempers and I was often the brunt of them, so cannot take anger at all - I retreat (whether physically or into tears - both happen).
I know there are a lot of people like me, and that's why emotional outbursts are not appreciated in the office, whether anger, or tears.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Breath in, breath out Susan, am sure now you have had a talk with both you can unwind a bit..same here sometimes, Paul/Suzanne have their outbursts at times, say 'not personal' just part of business but i don't go for that in the least..when I say both of them, not normally with me but I'm really a personal who like a straight line life, few ups, few downs and when not like that it hits me hard

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry you had a bad day Susan, and sure hope you can work things out! Your a strong woman for standing up to your boss, and telling him how it should be!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

A co-worker said I should not only tell my direct report (Andy, which I did), but also his boss, and the temp agency so it's recorded.
She's right, of course, and I will tell John, and the agency.
I surely do not appreciate being talked to like a 2-yo, or scolded.
I've calmed down quite a bit, and for today it will be fine.
