WHO'S AT YOUR BIRD FEEDERS
I am so bummed the bear broke my heated bird bath
:(
love the winterberry!!!
:(
winterberry...on my list
Jen, house finches get an eye disease that leads to total blindness...that's what you're seeing on that finch....Sherrie, robins will winter if they get enough food.....no snow, so they're happy in NH this winter....
I see a lot of finches with eye disease, wonder why they are susceptible...
The robins cleared of my ornamental pear tree and have been working on the Holly, so glad to still be seeing them, makes me hopeful for spring.
The eye disease must be why I dont see as many Finches as in the past.
We have flocks of winter robins and non migrateing geese. There are many ponds within a few miles of this area.
The geese come and go flying low,its a great feature of this neighborhood.
You're correct, Jo......the population was very high, the eye disease spread right through them, knocking the population way down....I had a pair at the feeder yesterday, they were the first I've seen in a long time.....
I have Goldfinches but not in the numbers 5 years ago.
Purple Finches and Red Poles have not been here since 3 years ago.
There were a few red polls in the state last year, but I never saw any....I love the purple finches, but I rarely see them either...and it's been years since I've seen a crossbill.....

Lovely and something about Mourning Doves in snow, very sweet. They mate for life .
We have had a lot more Cardinals this year.
Fantastic pix.
very nice!!!
Those English Sparrows are real nut jobs. I have a "hit and run" gang of 10-15 that raid my feeder for a day until its empty.
John, loved the bluebirds in the snow....also, seeing your goldfinches reminds me I've not seen one here....I did find a sad pile of feathers near the feeder....they looked like nuthatch feathers....I'm hoping not....Chuck, great photo of the downy!
That baby birds in the birdhouse pic is AWESOME
John/Liza what is in the log feeder suet balls?
flowAjen, Bluebirds seem to like a mix with a lot of the Grape Preserve.
Log feeders are filled with a home made mix of Chunky Peanut Butter, Uncooked Oatmeal, Grape Preserve, Raisins and Cornmeal used as a binder if necessary. Sometimes a little used cooking fats and oils from the container on the back of the stove.
Equal parts Peanut butter and Oatmeal, Easy on the Grape Preserve, hand full of Raisins and the rest to suit. If mix is too soft add Cornmeal or more Oatmeal to bind up into a Firm mix. Better to let it set a while before using.
cool, thanks for the info
Did not take any photos today so guess what ?
I love the log feeder but we have so many squirrils they just eat the whole log.
I go thru o plastic tube feeder per season. Squirrils eat huge holes in them so nothing will stay in the tube.
I believe you are right and now I realize I also have seen a Flicker from time to time.
Thanks for the ID.

Thats sweet. I bought an assortment of berry laden suet packs and the squirrils ate most of it. Finally they tore apart the cages. I am down to hanging feeder this year.
I have a red bellied woodpecker every so often.....even the jays stay off the feeder when he's on it!
