Today, I am thankful for...#10

(Debra) Garland, TX

Welcome back, Vickie! I second all of those thanks.

(Debra) Garland, TX

I am thankful for flannel pajamas, clean cotton socks, and hot decaffeinated green tea

(Zone 7a)

Today, I'm thankful to have the use of my arms and legs. It was one of those days where I lamented the fact I had no shoes until...

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Today I am thankful, oddly for me, the heater. After the 3rd morning at less than 30, I do want SOME heat inside. Thanks for all your info on how you set your furnaces in winter. I am impressed I am part of a group who seem techy enough to program their programmable thermostats! DH did not care for the ammunition you guys gave about how cool you keep your homes. The last 2 nights he has slept on the sofa and the temp stayed set at 70. He says it is so much warmer. Of course he is sleeping with a flannel sheet, long jammies and sock that he would not do in bed. I am sleeping in our bed with the vents closed and the window cracked open a couple inches and with more blankets. He says I like to be cold. I do not. I like cold weather because I love the weight of blankets and cuddling under them. I love to wear sweats and sweaters and socks and not have to walk around in tank top and shorts in winter inside the house so the temp can be 76, lol. Oh, and also to be able to drink hot drinks.

I am thankful for the GS helping DH set up 3 big tarps on 2 sides of the horses corrals. DH wants to keep them drier and warmer in winter.

I am thankful the winds are not as bad here as they are in some parts of SoCal, as we brace for another wind event. Parts of L.A. County are still without power from last week.

Dahlonega, GA

Gee, QG , do thet make anything other than sweats and scrubs ? that's a long way from pant suits and pointed toe hi- heels . Thank goodness those days are over . (and panty hose )
Thanks for being old enough and retired , but the days go faster the last few years .
Thanks for Gracie , the little dog that keeps my lap warm ,winter and summer. She is the closest thing to Gertrude I could ever hoped for . Where mama goes , she Has to be there too .She looks all over for me if I get out of her sight and I love her dearly .
Thanks for the 14 1/2 years I had Gertrude. Bless and rest her soul . I know she had one , as does Gracie .
Thanks for a D H that doesn't cook , I don't have to clean up the mess he makes .
Thanks that D H lets me sit in the van while he goes in the store for groceries, and does all the driving .
Thanks that I'm not in the northeast during these cold days.
Thanks that we got a good friend to rent our old mobile home , help look after our home place in Georgia and feed our wild , ferel cat .
So much to be thankful for ! And so much more .

somewhere, PA

Yes indeed - so very thankful for the introduction of "business casual" and ushering out the era of daily pantyhose & pumps.

I'm thankful that as long as I keep my wife supplied with warm soft things to wear in winter we don't argue over the thermostat anymore.
How did Scoot react to snow, Vickie? My mutts were hilarious the first time they experienced it. (Jim)

(Debra) Garland, TX

Thankful for banana chocolate chip pancakes

For being able to inspire food experimentation (Go all out Nadine!)

For gas heat and cotton blankets.

(Zone 7a)

Warm slippers(again), cinnamon pine cones and Blue Man Group.

Dahlonega, GA

Flannel sheets , the thicker , the better .
Yes, please update us on Scoot , Vicky. Has he calmed down a bit from his teen age antics?I hope to see him again someday . Maybe this summer .
I'm thankful every day for the loving heart of Cando.
Thankful that it's going to get all the way up to 53° today and after tonight , will warm up a bit .

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

LOL on Keeping the wife happy with warm stuff to wear. Does help on not fighting over the thermostat.

Grapefruit juice, Dr Oz, and warm blankets. It was 12degF last night. 18degF outside right now.

Dahlonega, GA

Brrrrr, Susan , you make me feel guilty . Not ! lol

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Brrr is correct.

Also adding cold weather clothing to the grateful list.

Midland City, AL

I thought I heard something about possible snow in Dallas on the news, but I was half-asleep. Did I hear wrong, Debra?
Today I am thankful for all those people over the years who have shared their culinary expertise. Professional chefs and home cooks alike who have worked to develop recipes and, then, shared their knowledge. Especially those who took on the challenge of dietary restrictions like sugar-free, gluten-free, meatless dishes, etc. They’ve made it possible for everyone to share in the simple pleasure of eating together.
Also, I don’t care how many Snuggie jokes and parody commercials friends put in my email, I’m still thankful for my Snuggie. :-)

Dahlonega, GA

What's your Snuggie's name, Sansai87 ? LOL

(Debra) Garland, TX

It snowed about 40 miles north and west. We got cold rain. It is 20 degrees below normal for this time of year. Going to be down to 28 or so again overnight. But warming back up just in time for the weekend. :-)

I am thankful that Floyd (employee who's wife will divorce him if he brings home another animal) may have found a home for this dog that won't get ME in trouble with said wife. :D Fingers crossed.

Thankful Kay is feeling better.

Thankful to have all of these friends here. :) (hugs)

Dahlonega, GA

Yippee Debra . Maybe the pooch will have a good Christmas too !

(Debra) Garland, TX

Wish I could upload video here. The two bigger dogs are having a high old time chasing each other around the house, up on the furniture, down through the sunroom, out the back door, lapping the yard, tumbling back in to rassle up on the couch. Unless I am sitting or standing somewhere. THEN it has to be right around my feet and legs. Turn and move though I might, they follow and continue to chase and tussle, but always around ME. Afraid I'm going to accidentally hurt one of them, or they will accidentally sink a tooth into me. That new home needs to come soon...sigh...LOL

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Sounds like they are going to miss each other. Seriously about the tussling around you. Use a squirt bottle or squirt gun on them when they get too close. I always give a verbal warning before using it. Another method (if they are not food agressive) is to throw a treat in a direction away from you.

Grateful for pet carriers, sun shinning into the house, and a working car.

Today I am thankful for the wonderful stone mason we hired to replace the rotting old railroad tie steps. He's doing a terrific job. And he's like a member of the family already. Gave us poppyseed roll from a local bakery (that he worked for years ago). And for sunshine pouring in the windows on our first cold day in a while.

Will try the spray bottle. Came home today to find the living room curtains laying across the couch. Dogs playing behind the couch pulled on the curtains so hard, the pole's bracket came completely out of the wall. And an 18 inch, 2x4 leg from the dog ramp one of my employees built for Russell has been ripped off. A few scraps of splintered wood laying around, but no other sign of the leg itself. Sigh...I do NOT like this dog. Come onnnnnn, Floyd!!! LOL
=================================================================

I am thankful for salmon cream cheese, debit cards, and lightly scented shampoo

(Zone 7a)

"Oh, the places you'll go..."

Today, I'm thankful for Dr. Suess. My mother hated his works and we never knew why.

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Floyd also sounds like he should take up some kind of activity that gets rid of all that energy early in the day. I'm guessing that he's had too much kennel time and not enough training by the former owners. All of which makes for a hyperactive and lonely dog.

We have one that if she's not worn out early she can be a handful later. We think she must be part sled dog. Doggie daycamp (lots of running), running her 1 to 4 miles in the morning, a 20 minute game of fetch, or an early 20 minute walk are some of the things we do to wear her out. Also might teach him "settle" and "leave it" commands. Both are easy to teach.

Grateful today for not getting the ugly pink painting at the white elephant gifting party (esp since I took it), that grocery stores make up party size veggie platters, and that it's the friday before finals which means school is over next week!

(Debra) Garland, TX

Floyd is my employee who thinks he has a home for the dog Bo. :D

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

whoops. So Floyd proably doesn't need influencing to behave with a spraybottle either? :-)

(Zone 7a)

Maybe he does. I know some people who could use a squirt or two.

Today I am thankful to be involved in our local rock garden society chapter. We've got a holiday potluck today. :-)

LOL! I know some people who could use a little watergun training too.
Scoot loved the snow but decided it was warmer inside. He's doing good. He and the cats still have issues but nothing serious. The cats hate the snow. The cats put him in his place in a hurry. He is still the most loving dog I've ever seen.He loves hugs. He'll walk up to my chair and stick his head under my arm. and he loves Dillen. Where ever Dillen goes Scoot is close behind.Dillen seems to injoy it. We all got cabin fever and cats and dogs made a racetrack out of my hall. They can race all they want in the hall, but I hollar if they try coming in the living room running. No one wants me to hollar at them.LOL
Scoot is a good barker. So I've got 3 dogs that let me know if something is around.
I am thankful for my furbabies. I would be so lonely without them.

(Debra) Garland, TX

If you ask his wife, I am sure the answer will be a resounding, "YES!" to the squirt bottle. :-)

Vickie, I am glad you have your furbabies and Scoot is fitting in so well. Know that makes Sally feel better, too.

Had my first experience with a TIA episode on Friday morning. Very peculiar. Nagged them all into letting me come home late yesterday. So, today, I am thankful for many things:

It wasn't a stroke

It has (mostly) dissipated

CT scan, carotid doppler, echocardiagram, and blood work are all good. No word on MRIs yet, but I always knew it was my brain on the fritz, not my heart! :p

I can use it as a lever to MAYBE get my temperamental, volatile, loud boss to tone it down for a day or two. I used to think it was funny that I once received a raise that was seriously labeled "Combat pay." Not so funny this many years down the road.

It is an opportunity to let my sister feel like she has "paid back" a little of what I have given her. Hurts her pride that she has to take so much money from me, and she likes feeling as if SHE gets to be big sister and send help the other way for a change. :-) Can't make her understand that it is ONLY money, so this is helping a lot to let her feel the scales are more balanced.

And, I am not ashamed to say it, I will use my condition to put more urgency on Floyd to get..this..dang..dog..out..of..my..house!!!!!! ROFL

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

I'm sorry to hear about the TIA. Sounds like the boss needs some squirt bottle training.

Grateful for finishing my final, helpful store clerks, and cold weather clothing.

Midland City, AL

ROFL! I might go back to restaurant management if I could use a spray bottle.
Today I am thankful for my new Green Amber Project t-shirt and that I didn't have to wait until Christmas. (We only exchange silly gifts on Christmas morning.) ~N~

(Debra) Garland, TX

I am SOOOO happy you liked it, Nadine. I wanted to get the design just right for you!

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Green amber t-shirt? Picture?

(Debra) Garland, TX

The shirt was ordered through cafepress.com/greenambergardens. It is my store I set up to help pay for the web support for my greenambergardens.com. Nadine likes, respects, and appreciates bees. So I made a couple of designs with that theme and added some tshirts and mugs for her from which to choose. She liked the Shakespeare-quote one. :-)

Today I’m thankful my attempt at frugality in the kitchen went well. I made too much PB oatmeal for breakfast. I added an egg; a little Bisquik and some almond extract to the left-over oatmeal and baked it as a quick bread. It went over well. (Jim)

that is a really great way to save the day Jim! Would not have thought of that.

Still working on the afghan.
Debra, Please take care of yourself and pay attention to those tests. The stroke I had was only a tiny lil spot and they almost did'nt find it.But it caused problems for awhile.
Am not doing anything but being lazy and crocheting.I need to cook and bake stuff.

(Zone 7a)

I'm thankful for photography handbooks, warm milk before bed and Stephen King.

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)
