All you D G friends , both met and not met yet
Life is good .
Today, I am thankful for...#10
Amen to that one Digger!
Tam
I'm going to echo what everyone has already said. I'm VERY grateful for you all.
And also for the NatGeo channel.
Today, I am thankful for:
Shrek, in all his incarnations
Gingerbread, in all its incarnations
Echinacea in all their incarnations
:-)
I love Donkey!!! MK had the audacity to suggest it might be time to give my Shrek Christmas DVD to some little kids. No way! If she gets to keep her Tigger and Winnie the Pooh, I should get to keep my Shrek and Donkey. :-)
Today I am thankful for art supplies so I can make Christmas gifts. ~N~
Grateful for all the different sorts of interests that people have, my freinds on DG (future and present), a warm house. It's going to be very cold tonight.
My DH won me a stuffed "Donkay" out of one of those claw machines. Nobody gets that but me! LOL ^_^
Guess It's confession time. I have a stuffed goose I'm very fond of.(stuffed as in soft cotton)
Vickie
Was given a large stuffed mouse after emergency appendectomy at 9, three days before we were supposed to be moving from Denver to Space Coast Florida. Named him Topo Gigio because that is who he looked like to me, and he went EVERYwhere with me. He was somehow left behind when we moved from Florida to Indiana two years later and my parents wouldn't turn around to go get him. I still grieve that loss. When we made it back to Indiana, my grandmother crocheted an elephant for me. I got to pick the colors (white with a black saddle cloth). She made it and stuffed it with what looked like crumbled upholstery foam. He is a permanent part of my household, leaking foam stuffing and all. From the perspective of that child still in my head and heart, I won't lose this one! From the perspective of a (sometimes) adult, it is fascinating to me to see what we hold on to that is traditionally the purview of children. And it is good for us to do so, I think. So y'all go on and pet Tigger and Pooh and Donkay and the goose for me. My elephant waves a hi. :-)
Sorry you lost that mouse! How sad. LOL over his name. ^_^ The elephant sounds cute as heck.
I have several stuffed critters to which I'm very much attached. One in particular is Lambchop. My DH got me that one years ago and it's never been far from me. It has special meaning.
Speaking of toys...my DD heard me singing "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas" a few years ago and that year she gave me a small hippo figure. LOL It was so cute.
Thanks for bring all this up, All. I'm thankful to have all these memories.
If you plan to donate to a charity, check out the World Wildlife Fund website. I got my DH a cute little gund stuffed Blue Footed Booby last year. He loves it. They have an amazing array of animals available for a donation. Good cause and a cute gift.

Today I am grateful to have had time to fit in a good workout during the day. (Over a late lunch hour). I am so lucky to have this job, which allows me to work at home and have time to fit in a healthy lifestyle.

Thankful DH didn't want to grill tonight . I whipped up some chicken salad for sandwiches and didn't have to make all those side dishes.
Grateful that the tooth extractions went well for our female cat today. She's up and wanting to be out with everyone.
Cute on the hipos, boobies, Lampchop, etc. I still have the crocheted stuffed bear that I was given when I was little.

Oooooo...now, I know what I'm having for lunch tomorrow.
Warm weather . (sometimes )
Yes, Sally. Warm weather today and tomorrow are good for me. Doctors appointments tomorrow and warm travel is better. Sometimes cold is good. Snuggle with a hot drink and a quilt. Be glad for central heat. Make a big ol' pot of soup. Baked taters. Going to get to do that starting Sunday. Lows supposed to be in 20s by Tuesday. Ah well. Short cold spells make me appreciate Spring and living in Texas. :-)

Today, I am thankful for
My dogs, Willie and Zuzu - they make me laugh and give me something to hold on to.
My sister Cathy - she is going to follow me across town Sunday morning to drop car at body shop--finally!!--for hail damage repair, bring me home, and pick me up for work every morning that the car is gone. With all of her chasing around she has to do, that's really love and devotion. (hugs to her)
My new pillow that arrived today - supposed to help with the weird neurological stuff in my head, neck, and jaws. Yea! The linebacker look will be going out of style around here!!!
Rain all night here
Christmas with my great g b . He likes my D H but crys if I try to hold him . I'll have time to win him over .
Debra , It's getting down to the low 30's in a few nights . Much better than in the mountains in North Georgia .
Have a good visit with your sister , maybe stop for coffee .
Today, I am thankful for
my sister (again and always)
having two days off in a row
fudgsicles
Todays, it's daylily forums, mango popsicles(love the fudgesicles but I don't eat chocolate anymore), rakes, sunny days and the movie Avatar. My brothers and I are going to watch it on their new flat screen 55" TV tomorrow. Should be great!
oooh, mango popsicles! i would miss fudgsicles, but that sounds wonderful. my friend shelley works at a chocolate company and she can't eat it either. :D
Yes, the mango pops are yummy. I don't eat choco because it makes my RLS kick up something fierce. Sigh...I indulge on occasion. ^_^
Being conservative with energy and posting this in several places. Because I feel badly--and because I can. :D
It is chilly (41 degrees) and raining here, today. I am still in pjs with coffee cooling fast. Answered a Craigslist for what was described as a "sweet little Lhasa" and the one photo looked like a fishbowl-effect Lhasa. Get all the way over from the east side of Dallas to north of Fort Worth to find he is a big ol' Bassett Hound in a Lhasa overcoat. Given the circumstances of why he was being given away, I took him home hoping it would be fine. And it ain't. Not that he is mean or vicious. He is just BIG, about 45 pounds and easily four foot from nose to tail tip. My two are 10 and 18 pounds, respectively and the littlest one has a leg injury where he stepped on it during a "get away from me, you big lug" dispute. So now the search is on from ME to find him a good home. He was kenneled most of the time at his previous place and NO WAY am I letting him go back to that. Poor baby was mincing around his big ole...um, poor little feetsies like he'd never touched the ground before. You should see him now chasing the middle dog around the house, out the back door, through the yard, and back around again playing tag. He is polite and quiet aside from the pecking order squabbles. He is just too BIG and not what I was looking for...sigh...my own doing for not asking more questions...sigh... :/
BUT, I am posting in this thread because I am thankful to have removed him from being kenneled all day AND at night. I know some dogs need a little confinement, but dadgum! 10-12 hours during the day, let him out for a few hours, then put him back in all night? Unh-uh, no wayno. He and my Willie made themselves comfortable while I was in the shower and I didn't have the heart to make them get off.
He's looking like he loves that spot.
Grateful for christmas lights, mulled cider, and white elephant parties.
Ooh, lights. I like lights. :-)
We are having a White Elephant exchange at work for the third year. My "boys" think it is the most fun work activity ever. Most are Latino and had never heard of such a thing until we introduced them to it. Since all but one came to us from high school (he went to school with the rest, but joined the National Guard and came to us just a little while ago), it is fun for me to show them all kinds of new things.
He's still learning how to be a dog . Please keep him another two months and you'll wonder how you ever got along without him . He'll fit in awhile later . My friend has an English Mastiff in the house , (she rents from me now ), its a 12x50 mobile home , carpet and all . I couldn't ask for a better behaved house dog (horse ? ) Give it some more time and you'll be so blessed wit a great house dog . I had two German shepherds and they fit in just fine .
Sally, I don't really LIKE the dog. I was looking for the Lhasa personality as much as I was the size. He is DEFINITELY more Bassett. :p Not to worry, I will make sure he doesn't leave until he goes where he will be loved and coddled. One of my employees lives on 50+ acres outside of Terrell. I'd ask him to take the dog, but Floyd already has six dogs, four cats, and a pig! Howsomeever--he has lots of family and connections and I sent him Bo's photos asking for help.
I know you'll do the right thing and be sure he has a good home . Hugs to you for that .
Today I'm thankful for a wonderful greenhouse. My DH spent the last year repairing it and making it water proof again. I spent a couple exhausting days cleaning it from top to bottom over the last few weekends. Today - I spent a few hours in it, puttering around, repotting some plants and just enjoying a wonderful afternoon in there. (Well.. except for my hands. I repotted cactus that I'd started from seed the very first winter I got the greenhouse, 11yrs ago. Even using tongs and being as careful as possible, I had to spend a bit of time pulling out spines when I finally gave up.)
Debra - its folks like you that make me thankful for DG. I love knowing there are people out there with big hearts like yours!
I'll send the dog's picture to my in-laws in Bowie, TX.
Today I am thankful my DW is recovering and we finally understand what the problem is.
I am also thankful for the first Christmas card of the season. Thanks for thinking of us, Vickie. (Jim)
Today I am thankful to find humor in what could have made me MAD on some days. The connection between wall pipe and hand shower hose was leaking a bit before, then DH fixed it and I did not notice it was leaking ALOT until I was almost finished with my shower. When I tried to tighten it, the who hose came off. No big deal as i could still rinse off as water came out as if a garden hose was open from the wall. HOWEVER, when I got out I discovered first my slippers and towel were a bit damp, but since they were closest to the shower doors were actually pretty dry compared to the rest of the large bathroom. Amazing how a roll of paper towels and Kleenex on the counter can absorb so much. Door to bedroom 10 feet away was even sprayed. Walls, toilet, clock, etc, etc. Kept me laughing though to keep finding more wet stuff. Well, it IS a BATHroom, so everything should be able to get wet..... Floors needed washing anyway.
Yes, I guess TX will get the cold AM's we have had. Was 28 at 6 this morning. Tomato plants that were huge bushy jumbled masses are toast! DH said it was the coldest night he has EVER had - while in bed with blanket and quilt and thermostat only down to 68!!!!! Daddy turns his down to 65 in TX and I would have off if I were alone. He said he will sleep on the sofa this winter and keep the heat to 74!! OMG. That propane fill of 100 gallons will go fast and I will need to have bedroom door and vents CLOSED.
Question: What temps do you guys set your thermostats to for daytime and for sleeping? I doesn't help that while he is going through his phase of being THE coldest person in the house (of me and 2 late teen girls), but I am retardedly going through a late change of life.
Thankful we were lucky the winds were not so bad here as they were in parts of Los Angeles County. No leaves left on the deciduous trees - now they need raking - some good for composting!
Ohhhh...I hope you find a good home for the big lug. He's very cute and I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding one.
We set our temps at between 65º and 70º for day and night. Our house is so well insulated now, the furnace hardly kicks on at all during the day. We put sweaters, hoodies or sweats on for added warmth if we get chilly.
Mulled cider is wonderful.
We have a wall of south-facing windows in the living room so we set the thermostat at 66degF during the day but its typically warmer on sunny days, 68degF for a few hours in the evening and then 55degF at night while are sleeping. (When we both were off at work during the day, we kept the entire house at 55degF). Upstairs, we keep the MBR at 62degF during the day and 68degF for an hour when when are typically getting ready for bed and for a couple hours in the morning when we are getting up & getting ready for the day. I'd keep it at 55degC at night but DH gets too cold so we comprimised at 60degC.
I'm thankful for programable thermostats & zoned heat! Thanks Quilty, for the reminder of these wonderful energy saving devices.
Tam
65 during day and 68 at night
Quilty, that happened to us once. We had all kinds of water issues when we moved in this house. Including a water main break just out in the street the first night in the house. The hose broke off the shower, the line to the toilet broke, the water main break...this all happened within 2 weeks of moving. LOL It's funny NOW but it wasn't then. You have to laugh or you just start screaming. ^_^
When we stayed home in the winter in Georgia , I had it on 70 all the time .Don't use the electric heat here in Tex , propane heat is the way to go with an automatic heater. Electricty is too expensive so bought a 300 gal propane tank .When we leave Georgia , we have the tank there filled , then turn the thermostat all the way down to keep pipes from freezing in the house. We have double paned windows there and keep the drapes closed .
I'm home all day. So 70 during the day. We do have large windows facing south and the furnace rarely runs during the day. Night time is 50 something. The temps are set so that the house is warm when we get up and cools after we go to bed.
I sleep with heavier weight microplush blankets (from Target) or doubled up light weight microplush blankets on my side of the bed in the winter. I find the cotten blankets are too light. Dh hardly uses any blankets. An electric blanket for your DH might also work. I can;t remember if he's been sick for a while but if so that might explain the need for extra heat.
Thankful for sunny days in the winter, good books to read, and working phones.
We sleep on a memory foam mattress which keeps us surprisingly warm. One comforter is all we need, no blankets.
I use down comforters exclusively . Light and so cuddly
I am so thankful to be back on line. I had phoneline problems and had to call in for pro help. The wonderful man brought me back to civilization.Has anyone told you what wonderful people you are? I am very very thankful for you.
Also thankful for pizza,cookies,fruit cake, chocolate covered cherries,snow,Christmas decorations,varigated poinzettas,Christms trees,soups,hot cocoa,candles,computers,live webcams from europe,Daves Garden,ice cream.
