Celeste, S/Cyrus is one beautiful animal! I just can't get enough of the photos you post. I have this urge to hug him. :)

Memory, that's wonderful news about Sampson. He sounds like he's doing really well. Congrats.

Lucy, thanks for the input on FIOS.

I took the dogs (the gods!) out to the Duxbury Bogs conservation area again today and had a nice long walk. They got to interact with one rambunctious puppy. Jerry wanted to play longer. He was having a great time. Patches was all set.

Great news, Memory.....I've got a few extra pounds for him if he wants them!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

LOL, Marilyn!

More on Sampson - his blood work came in today and everything is in normal range except for thyroid - which is low. That is to be expected and should come back up slowly. The HyperT can mask kidney and liver disease and it didn't - Sampson is fine!

South Hamilton, MA

Good to hear.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yay for Sampson and Sampson's Mommy!! Merry Christmas to you both!!!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Wonderful Christmas present! So happy to hear this! ((((( Sampson )))))

I just ran into a warning about Purina One for cats. There have been reports of deaths of healthy indoor cats eating Purina One. I don't have any more information and I am at work and it is month end close - so if you are feeding Purina One - feed something else until this gets sorted out.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Glad he's ok

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Uh oh - that's what we use.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Here is one of the links to the details on Purina One. http://www.villacattery.com/2011/12/mainecoonrescue-ot-purina-one-may-have.html

Hope they find the cause of the cats' problems!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I would not change based on that. Hardly a pattern!

Just a picture of Sampson snoozing today. He has quite the fur coat now!

Sampson is a beautiful cat, and I'm sure glad he's doing well. Merry Christmas, Sampson!

Patches has had a fatty cyst on her back for many years now. Some time ago that vet said it could break open someday, and it would be messy. Well, it happened on Monday. My sister was squeezing it, and it popped open like a giant, bloody zit! Eeeewwww!!!!! What a mess. I called the vet, and they said to bring her in. They shaved the area, flushed it out and gave her antibiotics. It oozes fluid every day, so I'm always squeezing out at much as I can and keeping the area clean. Jerry went to the vet with Patches and got a Bordatella booster shot and a heartworm test (negative). $212 later.....good thing I had money.

This yodeling cat video is funny and a bit creepy. http://youtu.be/nAvLlPCbyQQ

We bought a used car named Siris. The family kept asking us "How's Sy?" Is Cyrus getting a shorter nick name? We can't prevent ourselves from ending all of our pets' names with an i sound, I guess because they're too cute.

Thomaston, CT

Karen, my granddog, Ollie had the same problem.....Suey has one, too, but I'm going to have the vet take it out.....

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

If Patches' cyst breaks open again I will have it removed.

awww hope Patches is ok.. sounds like it hurts

Cliffie spent the night guarding our tree and presents. Merry Christmas to all! Cliffie even got a Christmas letter from Karma the Bengal cat telling him it wasn't much fun hiding under the beds just because relatives bring their "monster." All in good fun though.

Cliffie is a good boy not touching the presents....had to have the french doors closed to the living room when the airedales were alive....everyone of them would have ripped open every package.....

Durhamville, NY(Zone 5b)

Cliffie is cute. Growing up we never decorated the bottom of a Christmas tree to prevent dog tails and cats paws from breaking things. They were always tied to the wall so they couldn't be tipped over.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks. We got really lucky. While I was preparing the turkey I dropped a bowl and he gave alarm barks and then came to see me. He was so happy to get some toys as we opened the presents. He came and gave me a lick on nose and toes after he threw his toys around a bit. This guy was smart to know who brought the goodies.

Oh, how cute.....my Suey got a chew toy as well today....

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

On Cliffie's first Christmas with us, we had to keep him away from the tree. He was attracted to the glass ornaments. He'd chew them up and spit everything out, which gave us a real scare. As we bonded, he got much better, but for a while he'd eat my daughter's clothes, whole. He still can't sleep in her room at night, but he usually guards her outside her door. There's going to be one lonely dog next fall and we'll have to console him.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, poor Cliffie! Yes, some dogs are chewers for a bit, others their whole lives....just before she died my female airedale, Jazz, chewed my Hitchcock deacon's bench....she was 11!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, Cliffie sounds so sweet and well-behaved. What a good boy.

Jerry got a few chew toys for Christmas. One he chewed up in no time. It wasn't supposed to be a 'chew' toy, but a toy that dispenses treats as he plays with it. He got it apart and chewed up the threaded part so it couldn't be screwed back on. It was a magic mushroom toy: http://www.busybuddytoys.com/View.aspx?page=dogs/products/toys/busybuddy/magicmushroomtoys/description .

I also got him a hedgehog stuffed squeaker toy. He loves it, but I have to supervise him with it. He's already chewed a small hole in it when. He chews up any stuffed toys and always chews the squeakers out of them. I can't get nice, soft stuffed beds for him, either, as he pulls all the stuffing out. At least he never swallows any of it.

The day before Christmas he got into a box of thin mints, which are coated with dark chocolate. Ate about 5 oz. I called the vet. They told me it was not a lethal dose for a dog of his weight (60 lbs.). Thank God! He didn't even get the runs. Must have an iron clad stomach. Jerry is so sweet, but sometimes he drives me crazy.

Patches broken open cyst is looking better. Still oozing off and on. When it does I squeeze out the stuff as much as I can. Allison, it doesn't seem to be painful for her, but maybe a bit uncomfortable. She wants to lick it, but she can't reach it.

Karen

Thomaston, CT

Suey chews up stuffed toys as well, so I only give her edible treats.....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Lily tore up a rubber goose my sister gave them... ate the foot clear off.. was the most annoying sound coming out of that thing.. sounded like a real animal dying... amazing how toys are not yorkie chew proof.. they broke the squeakers on 2 others within 5 mins.. amazing the jaw strength of such a small dog

Thomaston, CT

Allison, my granddog had a dying chicken.....annoying is right!
