Yes, I remember the vet's bills (for just a few external treatments) giving me "sticker shock" to my budget, and that was a decade ago...it's probably even worse now.

I know this sounds cynical about medical/vet services, but: I remember reading about seminars offered to professionals, teaching them how to "pad the bill" in legal ways. Sad.

it is a bummer.. but has to be done.. hoping for the best

I can't remember a time when I didn't have a vet bill! LOL With 3 dogs, a cat and a rabbit.....I don't want to talk about it. It's not that I have to fit it in, it's part of the budget. Kinda like your house payment, can't even think about it....it's just "THERE".
Good luck to you & Patches Karen. :)

Sorry to hear that Karen ):
I agree Celeste our dogs are figured into the budget!

Luckily we didn't need meds for Abby and Atticus and they are all doing better. Still coughing but not like it was.

Good to hear! Will pray that it continues to get better. :)

Re: vet bills Recently I decided to put away a $20 bill every week to pay for vet bills. Yeah, right. Should have been a $50 and I would still be behind. And then one of them curls into my lap or into my arms in bed at night and I feel loved and needed - priceless.

You're so right....I just have to suck up the vet bills.....must say Suey only goes for her shots.....she's been very healthy......I do take her to have her nails clipped every 6 weeks....

I am at a loss for words on this one:

Marilyn - you can clip her nails yourself or use a dremmel to file them back.

Thanks, guys.

BA, that's awful about vets being taught to 'pad the bill'. We pay enough as it is.

Memory, I should start a separate account for vet bill money, though I have a feeling it would be dipped into for car repairs, too.

Memory, I clip Patches' and Jerry's nails myself, though I have to have help with Jerry to hold him still. He hates it. Patches doesn't like it much, but she tolerates it and pretty much stays still.

I really can't cut Suey's nails....she has very long nails, but easy to cut into the quick...the groomer uses both clippers & file on her....I'm just too uncomfortable doing it.....that's an awful story about Romney's dog....I read the article in our paper....cannot stand to see dogs in the back of pickups either!

South Hamilton, MA

The Romney story is a reprint from the 60s. Shouldnt have done it, but people weren't as careful then. I don't like back of pickups either. One bounce & they can be thrown out.

I cringe every time I see a dog with his head hanging out a window

made the mistake of buying dog food with fish in it...whew it STINKS!!!!!!!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Poor Seamus! How could anyone do that to their dog? Of course back then it was nothing for people to put their dogs in the back of their pickup trucks.

Lucy, how can that Romney story be a reprint from the 60s? It happened in 1983.

ok 80s But it was still some time ago. dogs in pickup trucks usually have no person with them. We always had ours in dog crates with the crate doors locked. even when we went to the vets as well as dog shows. I don't know why so many people take their dogs to outdoor events. They get in people's way especially frightening children.
