My SIL's dog ate a whole box of chocolates planned for grandma. The family spent Christmas day at the Vet emergency room, and Betsy the dog got no presents, only coal from Santa--to eat.

Char-coal no doubt. I'm thinking that Betsy survived and the family budget did not?
I'd say it was an expensive Christmas char-coal purchase for Santa. Then I heard everyone tried to ride the unicycle that was a gift for the 9 yo, so there may have been some other medical trips too.I would have been a nervous wreck.
We don't give Wall-e anything stuffed. Has to be super heavy duty for him.
He got a big new twisted bone, a new ball and some chewies
oohh so sorry to hear about the char coal!!!.. poor silly baby.. Lily did that once.. she took a chocolate chocolate chip muffin out of Randy's pocket.. not fun
DH got Bella a little doghouse full of rubber chew toys. She would open the door, get one out, chew it apart to get the squeaker out, then go back for the next. They lasted about an hour. He said he wasn't going to get her any more toys but did anyway.
So nice that our pets were able to enjoy their gifts. Even naughty Betsy must have enjoyed all the attention. We're grateful every day that we made room in our busy lives for this pooch. We always say he's got the best disposition in the family, and if voices ever get an edge to them, he stands by the door to go outside, a clear signal to us to take a time-out.
I'd love to get Cliffie a magic mushroom, but he'd need a stronger one and the very large toys to hold treats seem to be VERY heavy. There are only a few stuffed toys that Cliffie doesn't completely tear apart. He's had our DS's less favorite childhood stuffed dog for a few years now. Once in a while he shakes it and then presents it as a trophy , but mostly he sleeps next to it. I still haven't been able to photograph them nose to nose. Otherwise, the twisted rope toys are an acceptable chew toy, and miraculously he seems to know the difference. It's still a major effort to keep our daughters' rubberized hair ties out of reach because he can find and make them disappear silently.
My granddog, Ollie, likes to carry an old towel around with him...very funny to see such a big lug with a 'security blanket'!
Awwww, cute stories from all of you. Bailey and Carli got some rawhide bagels and some stuffed toys to chase after. I always give each one whatever at the same time so there won't be jealousy, but they always want to play with the same one together. Lol ...twins!
Happy Healthy New Year to all of our Fur Babies - and to their families as well!
Louise
Louise you reminded me of when we had 2 dogs and neither one liked rawhide. One of them would take it across the yard, and a little while later the other would be taking it the other way. They didn't want each other to have it even though they didn't like it.
hee hee
Wall-e was puking and the kids were actually going to clean it up since I was sleeping...LOL thinking that would have been more of a mess.
def the thought that counts
Awww, cute shot of Abby and the kids, Ronnie!
Debi, I always say I'm not getting Jerry anymore stuffed chew toys, but I keep getting them. I just have to remember to supervise him when he plays with them. He can chase and fetch them, but he's not allowed to chew them. Patches used to do the same.
Bad Betsy! Jerry ate a whole box of raspberry thin mints, about 5 oz. The vet said it wasn't a lethal dose for him (he's 60 lbs.), but I could induce vomiting by putting a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide down his throat. It wasn't necessary, though. He said I could just have him ride it out. He might get excited and have diarrhea, maybe a little vomiting. Never got any of those things.
Jen, I think you're right that it would probably make more of a mess. It was nice they wanted to help, though.
Karen
Very cute, Ronnie!
It's funny how much dogs vary in what toys they like. Debi_k's dogs don't like raw hide, but a raw hide bone is absolutely my dog's most favorite thing I can get him besides cheese.

Cute photo, Ronnie! She's a licker for sure....Louise, my airedale twins were the same.....one day I gave each a small raw carrot....they looked at one another, & spit the carrots out at exactly the same time.....
Caught a mouse in the trap the other day but only by his front leg....he had dragged the trap all the way from the kitchen to the dining room and was hiding under the hutch with his leg all bloody...EEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Poor little guy.
I'll send him to you
Might take him a while.
Yep that trap will slow him down some
I see you too are still having trouble sleeping, Jen!
I do feel sorry for the mouse...just don't want them in the house!
Oh man....with all the sleeping I'm doing with this cold my sleep patterns are all screwed up...the other night I was wide awake at 4am, probably didn't help that my family left all the lights on when they went to bed even the garage door into the family rrom wasn't shut all the way.
Aww...Cyrus looks like a snowball!!
He looks so huggable...need a puppy here!
Ooooo I just wanna squeeze him!
Love those colors. Just like our old cat, Casper.
Marilyn, that's funny! My dogs love carrots.
Oh, poor mouse, Jen.
Cyrus is so adorable. Sounds like you got lucky to have such a nice puppy. Jerry is super naughty, but I adore him in spite of that fact.
Karen
that's why I love those electric traps Jen.. no gore or suffering ... Cyrus is just kissable!!!
I was thinking about those electric traps that night...may have to go get some...
even with months old peanut butter in them... I caught a mouse under the sink.. didn't even know it was in the house.. just leave it set under there.. went to get something from the cabinet.. and saw the light flashing.. I scrape out the old P.B. with a plastic knife and toss it.. they don't get a chance to get it.. but I like to change it every few months
I was using those real simple plastic traps and I maybe catch 2 a year by just using flour(my neighbor had been doing it that way for years) guess that one was too sensitive and didn't give him a chance to crawl in further...we have poison in the garage and attic in those enclosed bait stations so the kids or dog can't get at it
I wouldn't use poison in the house.. they usually go for water and end up dying in a water bowl.. or toilet.. after plucking rats out of horse buckets we stopped doing that.. ICK
Don't know where they go to die but have been using it in attic and garage for years...probably behind the walls
They don't go to Florida like everyone else??
LOL!
