Thank you, Barb! I'm pleased I was able to negotiate a better wage, and Monday start instead of tomorrow - I just couldn't dump helping my friend at such a short notice!
This gives me time to check out where they're situated and for me to get a whole bunch of stuff done!!
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Chat with friends!
Hello To All ! Good Evening Night Shift !
OH SUSAN !!!♪♫♪♫Great NEWS... I'm so glad for that company that hired you...they are lucky to get you :o)
Wow - Barb... you'll have 2 GS's driving soon, right? He can steer a horse I'm sure he can steer a car LOL..... and Kyle right behind....
Betty - so glad you made the appointment... I wish I could remember - I wrote it down the test that "jeri" on here told me every woman should have... I'll look for it...
she is the Master Gardener that came by my house...
Suse - so enjoying that book.
Deb - see you've got to check back wiht us... we need your mothering ! I hope the kids are still taking care of YOU....
Dianne - I hope you and Warren had a good day.
Went to chirpractor for you today Katie ! It's been a while.
I'll pop back in a bit...
Mary
Susan, that is great news! Congrats. We will continue praying for Bob to get the next call for an interview!
Wahoo Susan! So happy you found a job and negotiated the pay and start date! Still sending prayers that your DH will find something sooner than later ... especially now that you have something. Those male egos are tender ...
Barb, congrats to Brandon! That's great! Also meant to comment on how happy I am that you got to visit with your family and they made it home safe.
Betty, sending big prayers to you for your Dr apt tomorrow. Take it easy with those projects and give that arm time to heal. OMG, I don't even know what to say about the doggie situation ... shaking my head ...
Katie, so glad you have Tony and praying your arm gets better, also. You be careful too since you don't have the same health care benefits ...
LK, we got rain again today. Did you?
Debbie, so happy for your good news today. Tell the furkids to behave tonight! LOL
Dianne, always sending hugs to you ... Tell Warren he's always in our prayers.
Andy, hope things are better in your neck of the woods tonight. Thinking about you and your sister. The scenery in your area sounds beautiful ... especially when you described your parent's home. I could see it in my mind's eye ... ☺
Joyce, if you're lurking, sending prayers to you and your Dad. Hope he's adjusting a bit now. I know it's difficult. My Mom is fortunate to be at home but is still struggling ...
Laura, so how did that apple sauce bread turn out? I'll take just a tiny piece ... ☺
Best ...
Too many things to count ... DH, home, family, food, friends ... my Moses
Worst ...
It rained and I didn't get to go for a walk
(now if that's all I have to complain about ... you know life *is Good!!)
What I learned today ...
It takes time to catch up after having your DH home for 2 weeks. ☺
Okay, it's taken forever to type this so I'm ~ing to everyone else for now ... Off to get squeaky clean ... I'll BBL.
Oooh Susan, that is fantastic news!! When I was hiring I paid special attention to those that said they could leave their present employers in a lurch to take the job I was offering, meant they would do same to me...yep, now we need to pray Bob gets a job...bet he is thrilled that you start Monday.
Barb, do you think that"s the reason for the skunks?? Kyle was telling me that skunks can only spray every so many days, sometimes I wonder if he just tells me these things or if he has so much knowledge. Lol. Have to check that out?? If it's true then there must be a slew of them
Mary, was it the bone density test!!
Suse, you are in need of rain though aren't you, perhaps not now that you have the wateringnsystem in that new garden area. Lol. Your hubby doesn't work far from your house does he? What kind of temps came with the rain?
Glad that life is good for you, you deserve it.
When do you go to the memorial?
Dianne, prayers coming your way...
What has Thea been up to? Hmmm
Hm... Betty - of course I can't find where I wrote it down.. "so I wouldn't forget" LOL...
I'll dmail her when she dmails me back...and ask....
I just got REAL excited thinking about Christmas and our swap... then started getting worried... what If I can't find the perfect Swap gift?
So I wondered if there were just a Handful of questions that we could all answer about ourselves that would provide some clues.
Better to answer now before we "know" who Warren draws for our Buddy....
Betty - what do you think ? And if so what short list of questions would work ?
(HUGS)
Mary
No rain here today. It has been really nice, temp wise, but no rain.
Oh LK - we are in a "mini" drought as well....
All these violas I've planted and cuttings taken...
We did get a quick Tstorm last night but as dry as it's been... I swear everything was dried out by tonight....and Hubs and I had to water AGAIN !
I recently found out you can get vaccinated for shingles. My mother had them and they were awful. Next visit I asked my doctor and got the vaccination at the end of our visit.
I was in a lot of achy pain today so I didn't do much. I did finally re-find www.robomargo.com. I couldn't remember the name of the site and it got lost when my previous computer died. Spent quite some time looking over many of her ideas.
My teacher Amma will be in the SF Bay area for a week starting November 20. I would love to see her but don't know if I'll be up to making the trip. I am due to see my doctor in San Diego about that time. Also, I could order a big box of wrapped hard candies from www.bulkfoods.com for Christmas. I have lots of stuffed animals and I think Dana brought more with her.
Sue - good news about the job. Makes me tired just to think about regular work.
I did make a trip to town and got a box of chicken legs and brown rice. Must keep the dogs happy. Max is still a little growly around some of the food. The others all know there is enough for everybody so they are quite patient with him.
Wish I had a little more energy but the achy pain really saps my strength. I'm grateful it isn't worse and I can take it fairly easy. I did most of the dishes and about half the laundry so the day was not wasted, work-wise. And it was beautiful and I enjoyed that. The tree trimming that Tony is doing is opening up some nice views.
We'll see what tomorrow brings.
hugs, katie
Wow Katie - those are some really awesome websites ! I sent the First one to DH... he is wonderful at collecting odds and ends and maybe will give him some ideas...
Are you looking for Christmas items for the neighborhood kids ? or do you just love ordering the candies for yourself ?
HUGS<
Mary
Katie - I'm more tired from NOT working - all the extra projects I do (quilting, volunteering in my friend's office, Bible Study, UCW meetings, board meetings, volunteering at the church...... shall I go on? All you at-home ladies know Exactly what I mean - most days your time is Not your own because you have So Much on the go!!!
I got a good sleep and don't feel as achy today. Should be able to help Tony with the tree trimming.
My Christmas present to myself is to dress up as Santa and drive around giving out candy and stuffed toys. I go to several neighborhoods where the kids know to watch for me and stop for any children I see along the way. I've been doing it for over ten years. Missed once a couple of years ago when I got bitten by a neighbor's dogs a few days before Christmas. The kids were wonderful about understanding and I took some candy and presents around on New Years but not in costume. The big day of celebration here is Christmas Eve and most families have a late dinner and lots of people get drunk. Besides being a present to me what I do gives the children an alternate idea of what Christmas can be. I've had some incredible experiences doing it.
I love the robomargo site. Lots of ideas and links to even more!!
hugs, katie
Katie, that is so nice of you to do that for the kids! God has definitely placed an earthly angel in your part of the world as well! I know that means so much to those kids.
Good morning ...
Katie ... that's awesome!
Betty, hope you will get some answers at the Dr this morning. Missed you when I checked in today. And yes, we really need the rain, so I wasn't complaining ... just a little grumble there because Moses and I needed a walk. ☺ My DH is about 3 miles, so that's not far ... We go at the end of the month for the memorial service. I'm getting my hair cut and highlighted tmr, so y'all send up a prayer that I'll like it.
I am misssing Thea also. Wonder if she's still having computer issues?
Mary, I liked your idea of swapping info ...
Okay, can't remember what else, so y'all have a blessed day ...Will try to BBL ...
Be back in a bit, disorganized this morning, took too much on then Cathy dropped in when she saw my car in the yard!!
Off I go
YAY Susan!!!!! Hope this turns into something permanent!
Katie nice websites and how cool!!!!!
LOL Suse I know exactly what you mean when you say you can't remember what you read! I try to type as I go but sometimes, especially lately, that hasn't worked.
Betty waiting to hear from you about what the doc said.
And we crossed, took over 30 minutes to type just that little bit!!
Goodmorning to all.
Katie Thank you for the robomargo site too cool.
Mary I like the idea of swapping info for the x-mas swap.
Off and running again.
Hello All ! just popping in ... came home for lunch ...
Wonder if Betty has a quick questionnaire we can use ? just a few questions we can all answer... Something you used back as Recreation Director ?
Katie - YOU are an angel. Does feel so GOOD to give... I really miss feeding the High School Band and spending time with them. This may not be as good a price but I've used this site many times for giveaways...
www.orientaltrading.com
((HUGS)) All - it's a gorgeous day here and hoping you are having a wonderful day too...
BETTY how did it go at the doctor, or are you still there waiting??
Just in, going for hot bath, thinks because the inflammation arm, knees, joints, ache and pain that I've an infection going on, spent afternoon in hospital getting tests, won't know till mid week.. High winds, rainy, bit of a headache, be back a bit later!
Betty - so glad you saw the Dr and they're pretty sure they know what it is! An infection can be sure - takes longer the longer you leave it y'know!
Just in from cataloguing books in the church library. Before that I was at Jackie's office for the last time before my job starts on Monday. She said "they called me and said they don't need you for the job anymore" LOL I'd just gotten a confirmation etc from the Agency, so I knew she was just teasing lol
I's tired...... been working on computer entries and then writing out 11 pages of author/title/subtitles....... I can't begin to tell you how many books Margaret & I did! She read the info and I wrote it - talk about writer's cramp lol
Busy bunch of girls, OMG went down stairs to make sure sewing machine and iron was off, drats 2" of water on the floor, had torrential rains but sump pump should have been enough to rid the water as it came in, not sure if something was blocking the float! Means my quiet, sit relax, look after Betty night went by the wayside
I've now filled the wet vac and used every towel in the house to sop it up, guess I'll be doing loads of wash all night
jeff called just as I was using bad words..wanted to know if I wanted him to drive up north, nope.. Then he told me to call my other son, nope, know they are all in the city at snowmobile show..
One has to learn to do things on their own..
best of today... hearing Caleb on the telephone asking if I can make him his Halloween costume, easy one this year, a jester suit
Worse..Flooding but I could have gone to bed and woke to quite a mess..
What did I learn? Hmm should do periodic checks of float valves and other household workings
This message was edited Oct 14, 2011 6:04 PM
Jester suit, Easy? LOL... only for you Betty !
Sure wish I could drive up and help you though...I'm hoping Greg stops by on his way home to give you a hand...
The In laws had a Jester suit they gave to the kids... don't know if you remember last Christmas they gave the kids all their old costumes....
You need to take it easy gal ! An infection... got to make sure that doesn't get worse...
((HUGS))
Mary
Ah .... Where is my Night Shift ?
On my Mind... My boss (the boss's boss that fussed then apologized to me) invited me and hubs to watch the Saints play football in our company Suite...7pm Sunday 10/23 in New Orleans
Mind you... it's a WORKING event... I'll host a couple of my clients...and ALL My bosses will be there...
so my mind is spinning... "How will they turn this into a way to yell at me" " Will I be excused from the next day's 8am meeting" "will my clients have fun?" I know I WONT... but I'll try. and "What do I wear?"
will they make me cancel my day off Friday 10/21 when I was headed to the Round Up in Alabama? what turmoil.
I can't miss the round up... I've been so looking forward to it... and most my cuttings are ready...
Hmmm...
Mary - here's hoping you'll be able to make it to the Roundup! With your cuttings intact :-)
I hope your "working" event goes easily.....
(((((((Mary)))))))))))
Oh Mary look at it as a way to 'shine'! I'm sure your clients will already be hep to watching the game in New Orleans , know I would..as for your time off to head to the gathering, tell them you've offered transportation to others/have part of the meal to bring and you just couldn't cancel...be firm but in a soft voice showing them how disappointed you are in not being able to comply..???
As for the costume, I'll pick up materials this week and get it done..only other one might be Noah to ask but I'll enjoy because likely it's the last year..heard Jeff say to Caleb last night, 'why don't we go buy one?' In background 'if we have to'..no way, that is what grandma is for!
Wind is up, not raining at the moment..
Only thing on my agenda other than play is pick up a gift, the corsage, my SIL by 4:30pm..so am sure if I leave by 3pm should be able to get everything done..
Will add to the top of thread a few questions for the Christmas swap if ok with Dianne..
Both she/Warren and Debbie are in my thoughts!
Morning everyone! Betty, sure hope they figure out what is going on with you and treat it quickly!
Post pictures of the costumes when you get them done?
I'm up early today. Still achey but not too bad.
We got a lot more tree trimming and leaf shredding done yesterday. We are almost done with the part closeest to the house and a big pile of branches blocks the area from the road so I'll be abe to start planting soon.
As we were finishing yesterday Tony saw a "big" rattlesnake - about 4-5 feet long. I've been watching for snakes and scorpions as we've cleared - this was the first. I didn't see it. It got away done in the arroyo. They don't llike us any better than we like them. Those around here seem especially anxcious to stay away from people. We have lots of arroyo area that is wild and cannot be used for building so I hope it finds a safe home there.
Debbie, I think of you as I thankfully work on flat ground. Our work in the arroyo will continue later but for now I don't have to worry so much about falling.
Cooked a big pot of chicken and rice yesterday so I might have a couple of days when I don't have to cook. The new dog Max is learning to share with the others. He's not used to having home-cooked food and plenty of it. I once adopted a llittle dog, Sam, who would run up and down the feeding area trying to guard three or four dishes for himself. He finally learned it wasn't necessary.
I looked at the Oriental Trading Post and like some of their things. Part of what I do is try to give "green" toys, that is toys I get from thrift shops and such. Tony's wife has promised to do repairs on those that have a small tear or an eye missing. I have a couple large tigers that I've repaired with big button eyes and Halloween tiger ears made for kids. Most the the kids (and some adults) here are glad to have a present of a stuffed toy and don't care if it's not brand new. There is one thrift store in San Diego that sells their stuffed toys for 4 for a dollar and I always check there and pcik out the newest looking ones. I get cheap hard candies from bulkfoods so the older kids also get presents.
Last Christmas I stoppped on the road for some Americans on ATV's. They had a little girl who was about two and her eyes got as big as the proverbial saucers when she saw "Santa." She was not interested in toys or candy, was just awe-struck at having Santa appear before her in Mexico on Christmas morning. That and big hugs from two boys about nin years old and probably "too old" to hug relatives are two of the best memories from last year. There was also the expression of Tony's son Antonio when he opened his absolutely unexpected present of a new laptop. He graduated high school last year with a special certificate in computer stuff and the last second-hand computer I'd gotten him had died. He also gave me a big hug and the whole family (about forty people) applauded. Best present I ever had.
Tony is here and I will get going and see what we can get done today.
hugs all around, katie
Plans changed today, forgot to mention that last evening I called the quilting shop to see what else I had to bring with me today and a lady said there was a death in the family and Glenda was gone until late Tuesday! Saleslady wasn't sure what class I'd be attending, when told her it was a private lesson and doing the 12 month quilt she said ahhh you are the lady that took on doing 3..guess with all going on Glenda forgot to call to cancel,,not a problem, nice being home..am thankful I called first though!
Just put the fireplace on to take away my chill, did vacuum and dust, now comes washing the floors then downstairs to sew and have about 2 more loads of sopping wet. Towels to do..spoke with Greg this morning, he'll drop in and rid the large shop vac of water..oh oh. Just remembered I didn't take out the filter, oh well needed a new one anyway
Katie we have rattlers here, fact Beausoleil Island, part of our Georgian Bay parks is a sanctuary..often camped on the island and as you say, they fret more when they see us than us seeing them..yet, I'm terrified!
Your Santa stories bring tears to my eyes, think I remember telling the girls here than when Roger was alive I made a gorgeous Santa suit and Mrs.Santa dress/apron and on Christmas eve after all our chores were done we'd pack up a few rolls of instant camera film..we'd go to friends/family homes who heard about our tradition and while children were sleeping Santa and Mrs claus would have pictures taken of Santa leaving gift on the bed while they slept! In the morning they were able to see for themselves that Santa had been.
Still have the costumes, actually think Jeff has them
A couple of years ago I made costumes for Lenny and Suzanne so they could do same but life gets in the way and they don't fine time to do same.
We have Ganz the Teddy bear manufacturer that has a warehouse sale for 3 weeks in November, they sell teddies and other Christmas goodies at bargain prices ..usually come home with bags full of teddies for mall Christmas donations and other gifts, already have it marked on my calendar.
You'll be glad to see the clearing project done ..does major clearing need done every year?
LindaKay, will post photo,s once they are done..will be seeing Noah tonight so will get a feel as to if he's going to be trick or treating and if the 2nd costume is needed..almost hoping not!
Hello To All !
Quiet day - hopefully you all had gorgeous weather and doing wonderful fun things...
Awe Betty - somewhat sad that the costume making is phasing out... but then great grands will come back to the tradition at some point I'm sure.
Katie - a SNAKE ! UGH! I don't think we have rattlers here. Got tears in my eyes reading about the Computer gift and others. Wish it were a few years ago when the kids were culling through their stuffed animals for sure we could have mailed you some to share... will keep my eyes open...
Love "That's what Grandma is for" LOL..... Good idea Betty will think of how to tie my trip into others...I am headed to near my sisters and had considered having dinner with her next Friday night....((HUGS)) Susan thank you for the well wishes....
Hubs and I went to a Model A Club day... there were 16 Model A's there...lots of people...beautiful weather... I took a "class" with 3 other women on how to drive a Model A but was the only one too chicken to actually do it. I mean these cars are their Babies ! what if something had happened? Hoping Hubby will get the bug to get ours running again then I can surely learn on my own and if I crash it... then won't feel as bad LOL.....
Oh Questions ! YAY ! Going up to see.... ((HUGS))
Mary
They are not there yet... I know Betty will come up with some good ones for us...
Best: Hoping Hubs caught the "Model A" bug and will fix up ours.
Worst: Still stressing over next weekend
Learned: I learned SO much about Model A's today... Hubs laughed at me when he realized I didn't realize what he meant by the trunk of the car. I mean... it's ACTUALLY a TRUNK ! LOL... I said "Doesn't have a trunk" then realized he meant the sturdy suitcase that straps on the back rack....
I also learned that the convertibles were more prevalent back in the 'day' and actually less desirable....
Betty - the "pictures of Santa leaving presents" is a wonderful tradition! And taking teddies for donations is so sweet - much appreciated by the wee tots!
Mary - a Model A? kewl! I think that's what my grandparents had, on the farm - with the top, etc. They used to use a calf-skin rug over our knees to keep us warm when we were out in it. Not a great heater as I remember.....
Talk about a storm, winds are high enough to sweep vehicles off the road..heavy rains..didn't go along with the others to MIL's, came straight home to see if I had another flooding, nope! No sooner shut the lights did Greg knock at the door, checking to see if I needing bailing helpers.. Got smart, went and got a battery for the water meter, set in at a level so if water gets higher than the float an alarms sounds..hope I have all the bases covered.
True to form, we were all waiting in the restaurant for mil to arrive, I walked over, gave her the gift bag, took corsage out and pinned it to her jacket during which time she looked the other way and not even acknowledged me..mental note to self. 'why do you keep putting yourself through such events?'. One day I shall learn
10th Anniversary of my grandmothers death today, was a bit emotional, she raised me so she's who I call mom..
Best.. Ricky who is one of Roger's younger brother who was always sweet on me was there, haven't seen him for forever, had mega laughs with him!
Worse...guess being somewhere you really don't belong!
What did I learn today..sometimes it's best putting past on back burner, some relationships just aren't fixable
Will respond in the am ...just tired tonight
In my neighborhood
Wind Warning
Issued at Saturday, 15 October, 2011 8:28 PM
Very strong winds this evening.
A deepening low pressure system near James Bay is resulting in strong west to southwesterly winds over much of Southern Ontario. The strongest winds are expected to the Lee of Georgian Bay and in the Picton Sandbanks area. In these locales, sustained wind speeds near 60 km/h are likely, with wind gusts reaching 90 km/h at times. Winds will diminish somewhat later tonight, but are expected to remain brisk through Sunday.
Betty, sending BIG hugs! I so know how you feel. I have been in the same boat here with my own MIL. Hurt worse when she HAD to insist on coming over Thursday night. The hurt doesn't go away....but we do what we have to because of our husbands. Roger would be proud of you for standing tall.
Feel better.....more hugs
We have that same weather. It is nasty!
Waving to all
Debbie
(((((((Betty)))))))) you lady, are one in a thousand. You keep the home fires burning, and are there for all in need, yet there are some who just don't "get it". Your MIL is one. Like the fridge magnet Jaye sent me "Friend's are God's apology for family"
Awe Susan.. I like that....
Waving to Deb... glad you are getting around as best you can.... what's up at the homestead ?
