Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Come sit and chat awhile

Verona, ON

Well hang on to your hats Ladies!!!! Warren will NOT be starting chemo right now.We are not sure whether to be happy or be more concerned about the reason why the Oncologist did not want to start treatment. In 2003 Warren was in renal failure and was close to dying. Our family doc has not been straight with us about the extent of the damage and how his kidneys are functioning now. Now you Betty will really understand the dilemma here. The tests are not great for kidney function and seems like they haven't been for awhile. The Oncologist even with thinking of using 2 drugs easier on the kidneys has decided not to go forward. He is not comfortable doing it at present. There are a number of other things involved but I won't bore you with them.
Need to dash Stormy heard SAilor and wants out NOW! Old dogs - old men when they gotta go they gotta go!!

Barb I forgot to mention how excited I am for you - your Colorado family here to visit after long last. I can just see the smiles, hugs, tears now! Makes me feel good!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dianne, so sorry to hear he can't have the treatment right now! Praying the meds he is on, continue to keep him comfortable, and not in too much pain.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Barb, have you had any test results yet?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dianne, my heart goes out to you, it's the roller coaster ride I don't like..think everyone tries to sugar coat as to make things easier to accept and chip away at the sugar layer bits at a time until the unevitable..I so wish they would give worse case senerio, then if things improve it's 'oh joy' happy days!!! I was lied to so many times by first class doctors, even but hours before Roger died..Like Christmas morning, he said, 'you'll be glad to know we've a few tests to run then Roger will be off home, perhaps within a few days' then that night a poor little orderly seeing me walk the halls asked me if I had spoken to the Dr. 'yes' told him what the doctor said, of course I was excited, had called all my family and Rogers family so they would get the good Christmas news...orderly said, 'insist that the doctor tell you the truth, do you realize that your husband could very well pass away tonight???' won't continue, because this isn't about me but Dianne, I can feel what you are feeling, each of us different and yet the same..we want to have hope, we want to make things the easiest for our loved ones, even when things look dim, but what we want most of all is the 'truth' so we can deal with our emotions and with what needs done...sending mega hugs! Your family doctor really should have told you about Warren's kidneys as I think most treatments would be based on their being able to take in meds without further adding to what is going on..

At work and a full day to play...worked on base coating the santa faces (24) but still have the eyes, cheeks etc to do..that will be today's project and then I can mail some out..don't know why I fret about them, only real thing you see is a bit of cheek and the eyes...could really leave all else blank but I don't like to...lol

How about 6 for LindaKay
6 for Barb (my Sean is always looking to do a craft for his teacher)
6 for Laura (kids might want to craft something)

and that leaves 6 more for the taking..

Will have to go find the old thread so you can have a look, read and follow through..I'm always here should you need me..and Barb, you just did yours with Norm looking on so should be an easy project..LindaKay, did you order and receive the hair? perhaps you could put the site here so others can do same..have it somewhere but where..

Decided tonight my bed will be filled with Christmas project books, at least when I wake up I can browse..got to find the 5th Annual Christmas workshop project..

Laura, enjoy you camping, hope you are in charge of 'resting' wouldn't want to do further damage to your back! Something must be going on for the little one to not be enjoying and doing well at school. Let's hope answers can be found...yikes, now you have me wanting to make applesauce cake...shouldn't be a problem because I've loads of apples I brought home from Meaford on Saturday.

Suse, happy belated Anniversary, it was yesterday right? Sounds as though you had a near perfect day with hubby..how much longer is he off and on holidays? Is pine straw Suse the pine needles??? hmmm if so, perhaps I should rake mine and put them in my gardens..

Shirley, I think it's because you are using 'Tubby's DG name' and so they take that feature from use...not sure but think it's how they explained it to me.. maybe they could put the membership under TubbyTee/Shirley so it will enable it...I did put your name in with those 'participating' I think your memory garden will look spectacular...I've my little area in my neck of the woods which reminds me of a dear friend! Yikes, talk about a lot of freezers..think older ones aren't as efficient and use up mega power...sorry to hear your sister is not well and do hope your mom is settling in...

back to painting for a bit!

There is a huge color fest in Thurmont with all kinds of vendors. Food and crafts. And all kinds of apples.
Trying to work on a christmas tree skirt. Will take a pic when done.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Be sure if you see any new ideas for Christmas projects you take photo..sounds like a lot of fun..too bad it wasn't a long weekend as it is here for Thanksgiving..drats, those nieces of mine, know I take Friday's as working from home days, didn't they have a gentleman scheduled in to drop in and sign some documents 'maybe tomorrow' so guess I'm coming in..

Lexington Park, MD

Sorry to hear Warren is not getting the treatment, but chemo is hard on the system, so I'm "pleased" he's not getting it right now..... if that makes sense.....

Forgot red for lips and blush so after lunch will go pick some up at $$$ store, then they are ready for shipping!

mulege, Mexico

I'm still here. Tired from two trips back-to-back but I'm sleeping ok so that should pass.

Tony did a major tree trimming today. I'll have lots of light in my east yard - nice now that our weather is starting to cool a bit.

Dogs are all doing fine together. Scout went to town with me this morning. Max was fine with the others while I was gone. Max is settling in really well and seems to be accepted by the others, except for an occasional growl.

The new kitty is mostly living on the roof in spite of the dogs many invitations to come down and play. She is friendly and likes to be petted - but not by dogs. Smart cat.

Too tired to follow much - hugs and prayers for everyone.

hi - just got home from starting to catalogue books for church library..... tired - chat tomorrow, or maybe tonight

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All;
Susan - is that for the Church library? Katie - hope you get some rest ! Hoping kitty has a place to jump away from teh dogs... they can gang up when you least expect it... unfortunately that happened to my Mom...
Barb - so happy your CO Family is in town... think you said 3 years since you've visited in person...
Dianne - you say it's positive news so I am Very very happy for you and Warren ! I don't understand some of that medical stuff.... but trying to follow along.
Laura - glad you are coming to visit me. (I live on Hagerstown Drive). LOL... well if teachers are concerned then they are nipping it early... so that is good. Suse - don't know what an Aberia is... Happy Anniversary ! Is Moses getting used to his new chair?

Dianne - may I request that Warren wear a Santa Hat when he pulls our names for the swap? I'd be happy to send one if you do not have one.... :o)

I'll pop back in a bit. SO glad tomorrow is Friday. Hubby called in to a radio show last week and correctly guessed the LSU and Saints winning Scores.... so he won filet mignons, spinach madeliene and bottle of wine... we had a fine supper tonight.....

Best: Good Day at work.
Worst: Had it out with DS19. He can be so mean... He will have to apologize for how he spoke to me. I simply pointed out the obvious his priorities are not in order.....

Learned: Hmm... let me think on this and get back....
Hugs,
Mary

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Well, it's been a crazy day. It's tried raining off and on so that ended the work outside. Went to town and got the supplies I needed. My dear Sis in MO called while in town. She was crying and upset. She had to put her doberman to sleep today. He was diagnosised with cancer about a month and half ago. Thank goodness she still has her little dog to help ease her pain.

Mom is doing better and will be more so once they get her UTI cleared up and her leg heals. She's been winning at bingo so that's good.
She still likes to do things on her own and that's alright.

Betty, if they take Tubby's name off or change it in any way it will look like he never was and I didn't want that. So in order to send me a d-mail or stuff on DG it still has to be sent to me under his name. They would even take the forget me nots of of his site and I can't do that. I always feel like I am communicating for both of us even though he is not here in the flesh. I know that when I laugh he laughs and so on.

Well heading for bed and try to play catch up tomorrow. Sweet dreams to all and wish everyone a brighter tomorrow.

Shirley

Hi y'all ...
Looks like everyone is tired tonight ...I'm beat, also! LOL We raked straw and I have 2 large truck loads dumped in my back yard. We'll go back tomorrow and finish up. Then we're going to get some 2x2 treated lumber and make a bed for my 3 jasmines and 2 gardenias on the back line. I'm going to rip out my little dwarf gardenias on the front and replace them with something different. I'm just not satisfied with them, although I do love my big gardenias, these are just too tiny. We'll edge that bed with the 2x2, also and fill it with straw. It will look so pretty when it's all done. ☺

Dianne, I'm so sorry Warren didn't have his treatment as planned. I know it's difficult to go with your mind all set on something only to find the plans have changed. I'll say this, though ... something similar happened with Danny ... and we believe it was God's will. Tell him we're right here praying! As for you, don't forget you have all of us when you're stressed and need to talk. It's so difficult to be a caretaker. Please remember to take care of *you also.

Debbie, we continue to pray for good news tomorrow. Saying extra special prayers for Paul.

Laura, so sorry the meeting didn't go well. Give the little man a hug. I hope it will all work out.

Barb, hope you're family arrived safe and y'all are having fun.

Excited with everyone about the Christmas swap. Can't wait for the particulars.

Betty, sorry you have to go in tomorrow. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Oh, and pine straw is the same as pine needles. ☺ They make a lovely bed. Danny goes back to work next week. I'll miss him, but it will be good to get back on a schedule ...

Okay, ~ing for now. I'm bushed!
~Suse

Hi Shirley and Mary! We cross posted! ☺

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Suse ! We sure did ! Send me your dwarf gardenias ! LOL... I unfortunately killed mine..maybe I overwatered it ? But like yours... it never really did well...
Shirley ((HUGS)) to you and Sis... so hard to lose a companion...

I was touched by what you wrote about Tubby. I still have my Mom's phone number programmed in my phone... Like I can pick up and call her any time...

I suppose Ya'll are my surrogates... hope you don't mind ((HUGS))

Still agonizing over what I may have learned today....
TGIF tomorrow. This weekend... Hibby meeting Saturday - we will learn how to over winter our hibbies... I'm suppose to go to dinner with DS, DSGF and her mom but I will get an apology first....

oh - got a surprise in the back yard today...

Baton Rouge, LA

Oh I figured it out....
We could never understand why the Weather APP on my I Phone defaulted to say "Cupertino"... I'd never heard of a Cupertino....
So today I figured it out ! That is what I learned.
Here is the FIRST bloom of the year on my Yellow Hibby.....

awwwww Shirley - so sweet of you to want to keep Tubby's memory alive this way - must be confusing for d-mail though lol Sorry to hear about your sister's loss. I used to have a dobbie and they're wonderful companions - so protective.

Mary - congratulations to your win of filet, spinach madeliene and wine!! (and you didn't invite US????) lol

Yes Mary, it's for the church library - lots of books, and we have to get a committee to decide which books are religion-based for it, plus I'm "re-learning" (there's my LEARN for the day....) the Dewey Decimal System! Yikes - everything is in the 200 series lol

Verona, ON

Mary I am laughing so hard there are tears running down my face - I SO needed that laugh. I am quite on overload and very sleep dreprived right now so when I was reading your post this is what I read ..... "Hubby meeting Saturday - we learn how to overwinter our hubbies". Well , when I reread your post I just started to roar. Betcha all of us at some time or another have wanted to learn how to overwinter our hubbies!!
I'll be your momma anytime Mary, I'm even up for taking on your DSDS# 1 and 2 Not so upset about not having kids but sure do miss the chance to be a grand.ma and DS as grandchildren. Don't have any of those either.
Right about this time Barb must be having all of her loved ones in for big hugs. How happy I am for you Barb to have this weekend with your Colorado family. Maybe you should have a turkey as you really are having a Thanksgiving feeling this weekend, aren't you?

What's everybody up to for this holiday weekend? I am cleaning outside windows and screens and some flower beds. And oh yes SLEEP, I really need some badly. Badly enough I will break down and take the Rx sleeping pills I have.

Enjoy your weekend everyone - an extra day to spend with your loved ones. How nice!!

Dianne

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep........... wha's that? lol
Mary - I agree - I will be your momma Any Ole Time! I miss my DD DSIL in Winnipeg and all the rest of my family. Ya could say I'm "Family deprived" (no, not depraved!! lol)

this weekend we are busy - have dinner for 9 in a dining area meant for 6-8, and a full turkey dinner - I'd rather have more than there's room for, than too much room and too few guests :-)
tomorrow I'm off to Jackie's office to work on some more invoice/receipt entries (from back ONLY to 2010 now - 2009 is entered.....) and then to send more emails to companies asking for their catering business :-)
On Saturday I'll be over at the church in the am cataloguing more books with a friend - as she says, things will go smoother and more enjoyably with two! Quicker too!

Tonight was funny - was supposed to be Choir Practice, but our keyboardist thought it was Wed, so she was doing her laundry and didn't hear the phone ring (she was downstairs). We left at 7:45 (early) after 45 min of accapella(sp?) singing.
On the 1st Thurs of every month, after Choir Practice, Bob & I take sandwich donations to the homeless shelter. We thought everyone had brought theirs so when practice was "over" we left and took them to the Centre.
We got home to find a message on our phone saying "where are you, we dropped sandwiches off......" so back to the church to get more sandwiches and take Them to the Centre.
When we got home Again, we found a message from the lady we give a ride to, to practice. She was calling to say "Marilyn thought it was Wed today.....".

Sunday, it's church, and give a ride to a friend to go shopping, then home to finish cleaning for our dinner party on Monday!
I'll be good to get back to working with Jackie on Tues LOL

"Directions to over wintering Hubby's in the South"

Over wintering Hubbys in the South is pretty easy with a bit of planning. You first need to find a good bed to plant them in. A nice sofa or Lazyboy will do fine. Make sure they have FULL TV on them... with just a bit of Shade.

They will need to stay planted there at least from September through January. MULCH is very important. A Blanket from time to time will work. And feeding them from time to time is essential. Pizza is a good nutrient.. and popcorn will work as well. Make sure they have FULL TV with FOOTBALL on at all times...as they will wilt if not.

Nachos with Cheese from time to time will keep them perked up and full...

If the Team they are rooting for are losing ...then supplement their nutrients with BEER... that will help them grow.... just maintain a measured dose.... and make sure they are not overdosed.

It is easy to overwinter Hubby's in the South with these few tips... Please feel free to add your own tips in as well...

Coffee is on.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, was up part of the night as well, thought with working from home today I can always get a few cat naps should I need them. tried staying up for results of the elections and managed to get a feel of if we now now majority or minority of same government..leading party had 53 and needed 1 more seat so guess I'll have to wait for the news coming out to see what happened.

Read your posts, got teary eyed and also had a good laught. Want to heat to town by 7am so I can be back for work shift at 8:30 then I can sit and comment to the posts..

Gab in a bit!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Quick good morning here. My kids are stuck in Chicago and won't get here until this afternoon sometime. Gives me time to make brownies!!!
Talk to all later.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Morning!

Well, I've been up since a bit after 4. Had one pot of coffee and will make another in a bit. Will go get dressed and start my day. I've got a million things to get done before SIL and friend show up later today.

Betty, hope you get to stay home and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. It makes me hungry for turkey already.

That yellow hibby is beautiful. I've never seen that color for outside around here. The ones that are yellow or peach have to be left inside. Darn!

Well, off I go and get something done. Wishing everyone a wonderful day and will try to chat later. Haven't caught my varmit that's invaded my house, but I will. If the rain holds off today I will set the smoke bombs off. We have to be out of house for 3 hrs.then I can come in and clean and hope and pray that the smoke got him.

Here's wishing sunshine for all!

Shirley

Victoria Harbour, ON

Omg, can't be bad weather can it? You must be so disappointed Barb/Norm!!
Guess you have to make the best of it..

Hoping our Debbie gets home today, would do her a world of good having family and furries around her.

Just got back from town, yikes turkey is far bigger than I needed but love leftovers as does Greg, usually he goes home with half the leftovers..another hour and my work day (work) begins bit I've a zillion things to keep me busy..

Took a photo of the su rise this morning as I drove into town and just a few seconds ago photo's of all the tables in my craft room....what a disaster..I'll be impressed with myself IF I can what is on my to do list...

Finish scarecrow and set him outside
Finish the tux topcoat for nephew
Finish all the panels left in the 3 quilts
Cook thanksgiving dinner without burning
6-8 pies
Close in back deck
All garden art /outdoor furniture put away except rusted iron pieces
Decorate outside area for fall
Go through patterns to find a Project for 5th annual Christmas craft workshop

And relax

Now let's see when Monday night rolls around just how much I've accomplished

Mary, sounds as though you've had experience over wintering " hubbies" hmmm think they would have it pretty good! Hope your anxiety over an issue sorts itself out and isn't as bad as you thought....

Time for breakfast, back on my next break

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yikes Shirley, what kind of varmin do you have lurking? Nice that you will have company today, are they staying for the night/weekend? I'll send you some sunshine along with turkey, I've plenty to share...I'll even throw in a piece of pumpkin pie!
Something must be in the air, all up well before dawn..

One thing about it, lovely view of mornimg sunrises...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Coffee is ready, and fresh banana bread.

Betty, I thought you had to work today? Going back to read, guess I missed something?

An airline captain was breaking in a new blonde stewardess. The route they were flying had a layover in another city. Upon their arrival, the captain showed the stewardess the best place for airline personnel to eat, shop and stay overnight.

The next morning, as the pilot was preparing the crew for the day's route, he noticed the new stewardess was missing. He knew which room she was in at the hotel and called her up wondering what happened. She answered the phone, crying, and said she couldn't get out of her room. "You can't get out of your room?" the captain asked, "Why not?"

The stewardess replied: "There are only three doors in here," she sobbed, "one is the bathroom, one is the closet, and one has a sign on it that says 'Do Not Disturb'!"

lol..smilling here!

Wasn't suppose to be at home but Paul told me not to worry he'd make other arrangements and for me to have a nice long weekend....talk about wearing a happy face...

Good Morning!

Been a busy, busy week. But I've gotten tons done...including some much needed weeding.
Sigh, Steve wants to go to the Cottage this weekend, so I'll be gone again until Sunday sometime!
Yesterday was just too nice to be in, soo washed all my windows, haha, can't believe how filthy they were.
Steve mixes this fantastic solution, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

Shirley, Soo, good to see you! Wondering if you received a package yesterday?? Please d-mail me if you can.
Bummer that i didn't include my phone#...So sorry to hear about your sisters Dobey. Sure is tough to loose a pet.
Sounds like you are getting a lot done too...eeeks, what varmit are trying to get rid of, yuck hope the smoke bombs get em.

Betty, Susan,Thea Dianne and all Canadians...Happy Thanksgiving weekend!!! Hope the weather is beautiful for you all.

Betty, sounds like you have a full plate... scarecrow is coming along so nicely, will be a great welcoming, How nice Paul gave you a surprise day off.

Dianne, I hope you get some answers. I know not what to say, it's already such a painful experience for you both and then not get truthful answers, shaking head.
I am praying hard for you Both. Sounds like you are having fun with the Christmas swap!!

Linda Kay, OMG...your Halloween mini garden is so adorable!, LOL, In all my running,Ive been keeping eyes open for a tiny witch, can't believe with all the stuff they sell not really much in the way of witches anymore.

OMG...Was laughing at the jokes!! Always great to start the morning with a good chuckle.

I'll be back in a few, we not leaving till 2 or so...need to get things gathered.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Have yourself a nice weekend Judy, lots to pack up at last minute but you will so enjoy..will everyone be going with you...

Need to get my windows done as well, almost tempted to hire someone..don't like heights nor do I like windows..most time they look worse than when I started so you'll have to ask Steve if he'll share his secret window formula.. had one which involved, drats can't remember the name, so strong you get a headache just smelling..oh yes, amonnia/water and forget the other ingredient..not going to try by hook or by crook, likely a formula for a bomb if I do..lol

The weather over the next 4 days will be spectacular..tempted to have thanksgiving outside, however if I do that cannot put away all the lawn furniture until Monday..

Another corner of my messy world..

Sewing going well...lol but then I've kept the hardest row for last, will try the pattern but me thinks I'll not be able to do it..maybe some of you will figure it out for me..lol

Shirley, is the sister visiting the same sister that lost Dobey? bet you said that right? I'm trying to go up as best I can and read the previous posts, should go get my ipad upstairs then I can work from the two of them...

Here's a chuckle for you....

For all of you who love thinking up titles.

The Psychiatrist and The Proctologist

Best friends graduated from medical school at the same time and decided that,

in spite of two different specialties they would open a practice together to share

office space and personnel.

Dr. Johnson was the psychiatrist and Dr. Jones was the proctologist; they put up

a sign reading: "Dr. Johnson and Dr. Jones: Hysterias and Posteriors". The town

council was livid and insisted they change it. So, the docs changed it to read:

"Schizoids and Hemorrhoids".

This was also not acceptable, so they again changed the sign to read.

"Catatonics and High Colonics" - Still no go.

Next, they tried "Manic Depressives and Anal Retentives" - thumbs down again.

Then came "Minds and Behinds" - still no good.

Another attempt resulted in "Lost Souls and Butt Holes" - unacceptable again!

So they tried "Analysis and Anal Cysts" Not a chance. "Nuts and Butts" - no way.

"Freaks and Cheeks" - still no good. "Loons and Moons" - forget it.

Almost at their wit's end, the docs finally came up with:

"Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones - Specializing in Odds and Ends".

Everyone loved it.
