Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Come sit and chat awhile

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, our weather is pretty much the same...perfect day to walk the trails and look at the colors but by the time I get home it's much too cold and can't believe how quickly it gets dark out now..

With all the problems you've had with your back Laura, you should move your computer up onto the main floor that way you won't be lonesome...

Don't know that pain killers don't create more of a problem..

Barb that is so neat..which room will you hang it in..I did a miniature paper piecing quilt, actually not sure where it is right now but these small things take sooo much time..

LindaKay, will look for halloween witch just incase..

Betty, are you doing them by hand? That is a lot of work! Thanks for looking, let me know what you find for a 2 inch witch.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, all but around each article, will zig/zag..by hand might take me till 2015

Drats, Darlene just called, Missy just came in smelling pretty, she also got sprayed by a skunk

The technique was taught from the book "folded Log Cabin Quilts" by Sarah Kaufman. I don't see any web address but the publisher is
C&T Publishing, INc www.ctpub.com
Strips are cut, folded in half and pressed well. Then they are stitched on a muslin back every 1/4" to acheive the effect. Each edge you see is a folded strip. Was fun to do but a bit time consuming. I love learning new techniques and how to use new tools and rulers. I think that's why I enjoy the classes at the LQS so much.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb, almost like the folding of our Christmas cards we did last year???

http://www.connectingthreads.com/books/Folded_Log_Cabin_Quilts__D45246.html

This site has that book for only $7.63.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks for the site LindaKay..just what I need, another project..lol
off to check it over.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Great find LK!! I hate to tell you what I paid for that book as it was a requisite for the class. And of course, they want you to purchase there. They do give 10% off any and all that you buy there for the class so that helps......

Victoria Harbour, ON

You can guarantee when you purchase in class you are paying dearly, but worth it to learn the technique..

Missing Katie/Bev/Shirley and Susan...

Updates please...worried about you all!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I am here. Been running taking care of sister neighbor she has been befuddled and wrecked front of her car sent her to ER but she would not stay. She came back home and we were in the garden and she fell didn't get hurt but can't find her today and am worried. Run to see Scotty and to Wally World and to check on my sister. I am pooped and feel like a zombie. I don't know what to do can't get in touch with her grandkids.

mulege, Mexico

I'm home and safe. Tired and have a stomach ache. I'll be fine after some rest and when I'm more used to my new puter.

katie

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

If she is elderly, Bev, you can report this to the police and they will look for her too. Just a thought for you until you can reach someone.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Bev..that is scarry, she could have a concussion, I'm with Barb, if you are concerned and there is not improvement that would be the best way of reaching her kids..hard when you know someone should have stayed in hospital after the operation and they are fighting not to.. You'll be run off your feet..try and get a nap.

Katie, glad you are home safely, anxious to hear how you like your new computer...

What are we sending?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

wha'?? I have no idea about the Christmas Swap. I just found you again, from back September 27th! I've not been able to read all the posts (you ladies have been BUSY!!).
If it's a swap box to a budy, I'm sorry but I can't afford to do it now. We're getting a little run down on the $$ side.

So glad I found you again!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Got to tell you, a bottle of fabreeze does nothing to help this skunk smell..no sooner opened the door that Missy was out..imagine even she doesn't like the smell. Not fond of trying to give her a bath but have to do something.

LindaKay, we'll have to get more specifics from adianne as to what can be included...

Susan it's understandable...sending hugs in hopes a job for you and Bob is just around the corner! We've missed you, by the way how can you work when you are busy from morning to night as it is...ohhh whirligig arrived today..starting to read it tonight after Ann leaves after t.v. Bingo!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Glad you got it Betty! Boy, I must have sent it 2 weeks ago, and that's Bad!! Gosh, I got something sent to me from Del Rio on Sept 27th (Thurs) and got it today - 4 business days! What's up with out Postal System?!?!?!?!

Verona, ON

Betty you need to get some SKUNK OFF. We got ours at the vet and a little goes a long way. When we lived in Pickering a Momma skunk anaad her 5 babbies fell between the retaining wall and a neighbour's fence. Called SPCA, 2 guys came immediately. Well never believe baby skunks can't spray because they got the 1 fellow square in the face. Skunk Off worked well on him and his clothes. My Samoyed did not look wondeful in Pink and was embarrassed sitting the the driveway. This Skunk Off worked immediately.
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will drop off at the vets tomorrow Dianne..sure need something!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I've heard that tomato juice works too but I've never had to try it......

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Apparently we had a skunk last night in our neighbourhood...... friend of ours said it was as tall as her wheelwell! That's a pretty big skunk!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lol that is a big skunk..washed Missy with a cloth until I can get to vets tomorrow, she's NOT happy..now Riley is outside, let's hope skunk sprays don't come in 3's

No winnings, Ann says her foot is much better..no cane tonight.

Kyle dropped in, was telling me his grandparents were leaving with a couple January 1st to spend winter in Florida, they were all going over plans when he said he wasn't feeling the best, coming down with something, left for home, didn't get up this morning...died in his sleep at 74.

Well I'm going to try this sleep thing, let's hope it's what people say its cracked up to be!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

his grandparent's friend died?

Yes Betty - it IS what it's cracked up to be - very good for you!! lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, so sorry to hear about him passing in his sleep. Sounds like he was having a heart attack or maybe a stroke, and did not know it. Sending prayers to the family.

Susan, glad you found us again. What have you been up too? Glad you got your box. Was wondering how long it would take.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Betty - SO Glad you got Whirligig ! Please sign the back after you read it.. and see if Kyle and even possibly Noah might read it too...
Who will get it after Betty? Where is the other copy?
Barb - Tomato juice... remember that Brady Bunch Episode ? LOL.... When do you get test results ?
Susan SO GLAD to see you again we have MISSED YOU! ((HUGS))♪♫♪♫
So excited about the Christmas Swap .. I've never done a swap before... can we do silly things like all wait to open on the same day ? So we can have our own "Christmas Day " ? or is that not a good idea.... I suppose if someone sends a perishable item....wouldn't be....
Susan... If you can do postage then perhaps you can join us and make something or regift so you can be a part of it ? I heard someone makes a yummy RUM CAKE .... LOL.....

Bev - I thought of you today as always... was at Lowes and they had a crate of Daylilies.. and the weird thing...they had SUCH a beautiful fragrance ! Never realized some daylilies could smell so good...
LK - love your Halloween mini garden !

Betty - well - I do think MIL enjoyed her 'surprise' bday. We didn't have gifts ...just cards but she seemed to really enjoy everyone singing and enjoying her cake.... A Holiday Road Trip would be fun... but understand it's hard to get a companion... If I could quit my job I'd join you in a jif.
Laura - get an IPAD.. .I'm gonna tell Santa I want one too... they are more portable so if you are having pain perhaps easier to use. Not that I have one...Your kids are SO Beautiful by the way... I'm sure you know that.....
Thunder - yes a good trip.... ((HUGS))

Can't wait to hear more on the swap !

Had a guy come by to give an estimate... I'd like to replace the nasty teen/pet ruined carpet in our living room with stained concrete.... not as expensive as I thought.... so may be a project...

Back in a bit... ((HUGS))
Mary

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

My computer is not working, I am on a borrowed one at the moment :( hubs thinks the monitor may be dead?? so if I am not on, don't worry.
I am wondering if I can borrow a monitor to test the theory?? as I sure don't have the money to buy one, and then find out it is the computer itself!!! and if it is the computer :( I am sh** outta luck, as I sure don't have the monies for a new one :( sucks big time!!!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Thunder - couldn't you take your computer to a techie and hook up to their monitor? Or even to a friend's monitor to see if it's that, that's the problem? Doesn't have to be a purchased-by-you-monitor!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Mary - I don't know if the Rum Cake would be able to cross the border - they'd smell it and then enjoy it LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Early morning 'hi', watching an old movie, think it was from before I was born, now that is old!

Thunder that is terrible, you depend on your computer system to be a lifeline for you and the boys / DIL and grand baby ..am hoping it's something very minor..what exactly is it doing or not doing??

Verona, ON

Tea time Betty I am up too.

Had a wondernful NOT dose of the flu or my body just gave way on me. Still a little shakey but that could be lack of food. Need to be in Kingston at the CC for 10:00 so will trot back to bed.

Tomato juice does work BUT you have to leave it on the animal for a few hours to break down the skunk odour. Thats why my Sammie Rogue did not like looking pink for all of the neighbourhood to see.

Mary loved your suggestions for the Christmas swap, anyone else have some idea. I have never done one before and just wanted it to be fun for all of us. Some of us aren't so 'gifted' at sewing or knitting or such but do wanted to share the Christmas season with our family here. As I said I have never organized such a thing before so am open to all suggestions and ideas.

Body says bed but the tea sure tasted good!
Dianne

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning all...what's up with all us Ontario girls being up this eary!!! lol
I fell asleep before 9pm last night so after 7 hours of sleep I was ready to get up.

So sorry to hear you are under the weather Dianne...having the flu on top of what you have to deal with sure is terrible. I hope you can get a bit more sleep and will keep you and Warren in my heart and prayers. I am so looking forward to our Christmas swap and I know you will do a great job organizing it.

Betty I hope that your furries won`t get sprayed again and that you can get rid of the smell with the stuff from the vet. Did you find any christmas crafts yet for us to make? Can`t wait to see what you come up with.

It is still so pitch black out and I am still a bit sleepy...meaning my brain is not fully awake yet and takes me even longer then normal to just write one sentense...going to snuggle back in bed to a bit...bbl
Love and hugs
Thea

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hope you were able to get some sleep Dianne..sending prayers that hospital experience will be easier for you and Warren today!

Kitties want outside and I'm saying " no"'...let Sailor out but stood and called her right back in..guess one gets used to the odor!

Susan, not if it were wrapped and in a tin.. Think they are more concerned with plants/fruits/meats that can spread diseased into their crops.

Mary, am hoping that Santa brings you an iPad..yes, they are more than convenient! Love mine. lilies that smell so sweet are orientals, am I right Bev?

LindaKay, did go check for a witch at the Halloween store..no go..hmm what else could you include in your miniature?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thea, maybe it's the drastic change in the weather, not sure why..been over a week that I'm without much sleep!

What do you have planned for Thanksgiving? Family coming to celebrate with you or are you going out to their pLace..weather will be gorgeous.

I'll be picking up materials needed to close back deck and at least part od a day to put everything (garden art) put away, so there goes one day.

Dianne, forgot to say hope you feel slightly better , hard putting in a day when you are Not well.

Lexington Park, MD

Goodmorning to all.
Dianne hope you are feeling better.
Been up since 4:20. Ready to get my day started.
I am so excited about the Chrismas swap.
iPad is on my Christmas list I think it will be much easier to carry than a lap top.
Need to get ready for school. Have a parent/teacher meeting for little man.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Think we're going to call us the nighthawks..lol

Brrrrr cold morning, have the chills..best I get dressed warm

Laura, hope all goes well at parent/teacher meeting..how is your little one adapting to school and riding the bus?

Lexington Park, MD

I am currently driving him to school and he rides the bus home. Since this change he is doing much better.
High today 74 which is perfect for me. But do not like when it gets cold.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Good morning all you earlybirds!!! I'm even here early for me and I've been up since 5am with Norm. He had an early start and I had some Xstitch to get done. I still don't know what is going on inside my body but the Drs office called and wants me to get some lab work done. I guess it's been over a year since last time. I'll talk with her later today and hopefully will know more. I'm off to the shower - talk later.....
