Morning everyone.
Coffee is ready. Toasts and jellies this morning. Something simple as I'm having black bean chilli the whole day!
Made from scratch yesterday, so it should be better today right? Tasted it this morning, and it's a bit tart from the tomatoes!! Didn't have any sugar so, I added a can of cream of mushroom soup. That saved the chilli, made it rich too!

It's gonna be a good day for Kel to start on his Honey Do list. He's off today, and I have plans that he fix the back porch stairs (which is actually a ramp) before I break my legs trying to balance myself on rickety planks!

That means going to Lowe's and getting what he needs. Maybe I can find me some plants that are on the sales rack. End of season always see a few orphans.

Have a wonderful Monday sistahs!!

PS.. Marion, I watched "Thor" last night, wasn't impressed at all.

Good morning. Thanks Jaye as that was on our list--I wasn't interested but Kim is. If she does get it she can watch it in her room!!

Found some "sick" plants at Lowe's (Bird's Nest Fern) for 50% off--other than Kim didn't water it while I was gone, it is going fine. I gave it a good soaking when I got home and it appears to have recovered. That girl!!! She does forget Mom's plants. LOL

Had black beans and brown rice for dinner last night. Yummmy. Chili sounds sooooooooo good--might have to do that soon.

Busy day today so might get chance to check back later. Have a wonderful day all.

Morning everyone! Thanks for the new room Jaye!

Morning Sistahs!!

Who amongst you all are starting to winterize plants? I'm sure Cookie's already bringing in her tropicals. Plus she has to winterize her pond!

That's what I started doing yesterday afternoon. Brought a few pots in and at least 20 more to go :( I'm telling you.. I've vowed no more potted tropicals, this is killing me. At least the haul is down from 60!!
Next year, I'll just concentrate on gingers if I want more tropicals :D At least the hedyciums don't mind freezing temps as long as they're mulched at least 6".

Watched a disappointing Colts game, darn, that team sure needs a better back up QB. Peyton must be itching to jump out of that box and take over the game!
At least the Saints won!
Watched Jeff Durham, the ventriloquist... had a barrelful of laughs! My favorite puppet is Peanuts. Of course, there were a lot of bleepings! That finished off my night well after the ugly fight Kel and I had.

It's not trouble in paradise. More like burning hell!! Did a rather shocking thing yesterday, which I'm not proud of.
I'm not violent, and normally I'd just bow my head in prayer, asking the Lord to calm me down when I find myself wanting to lash out.
But lately, I've been struggling with controlling the need to act out on my anger. It's been too long that I kept my wrath bottled up. The effects are not good. The headaches.. the yo yoing of blood sugar... sleepless nights.. binging on food..
But it felt so good after I broke a chair! I can't believe I had the strength to lift up a heavy dining room chair and turned it into a flying weapon!!!! When that chair hit the hard floor, it broke into 2!!!
No, I didn't aim it at Kel, wanted to.. but I don't want him to miss work :D
Thank God the cats were not in the kitchen.
If I were to leave Kel, his parents won.

Ok.. back to regular happy thoughts!!

Marion, don't forget sour cream to add to your bowl of black bean soup. It's sinfully good.

Who here grow glads? I grew them back in Louisiana and didn't do it here as I hate staking more plants. A FBer told me that she avoided staking by mass planting. Seems they support each other that way. Think I'll do it her way. Glads make beautiful cut flowers.

Have a better day today, Sistahs!

Morning Jaye! Sorry your having problems with Kel and his Mom!

No glads here. As much as I love them, I have tried a few, but it just doesn't get cold enough for them. Same with iris's. I get the green part to grow, but no flowers! I am hoping my lilies will bloom for me this coming spring.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Jaye, extra prayers for you and yes, your MIL would win. It does sadden me to know things aren't well and I am always here, just remember that. I love the both of you to much to see anything happen.

Nope no glads. I am in the process of mulching everything with the chopped up leaves on my yard. Do have some winter plants to get out but thinking they might be pots instead of in the ground. Kim has cleaned her balcony outside her bedroom and we are planting lettuces in planters on the railings. Gets the most sun in that location. Yeap, weirdness runs in the family! I grew red lettuce, which I am having trouble finding this year, in a planter with my Flowering Maple last year.

Will check back in later......

Hello Ladies,
WOW Jaye you lost your temper whoo hoo!!!! Doesn't hurt to vent once in awhile as a matter of fact it's better to let it out than to keep it bottled up!

I grow glads and I do NOT stake them up. Actually the best way to grow them so you don't have to stake them is to dig trenches then fill in as they get taller that way they won't fall over. But planting in masses is pretty!!!

Hmmm LK you know that you can put your glad bulbs in the frig for the winter then plant early spring. Same with your lilies.

I never dig up my bulbs, lol and my lilies need to be thinned out really bad this year but I'm afraid to disturb them and not get those tall ones again.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

we used to grow hollyhocks at the church (donated by the Scouts) but someone decided they were too old fashioned and pulled them up - However........ a new hollyhock is growing out of a crack in the sidewalk lol It's only about 5" tall, but they are determined li'l things and are popping up in the lawn lol Too bad they mow 'em down, eh?!?!
For awhile I was going to say they were Glads, but they're not lol

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Good morning! Midway to weekend. Bet Crissy is looking forward to getting the work week over with!

Thanks for the extra prayers Marion. We love you too. He hasn't met 'regular' mothers until Dallas. He really has a dysfunctional family.
It wasn't better yesterday, and neither will it improve today. Only time he'll have relief from 'her' is when he's at the prison :(
Our house is not a home.

Thanks Cindy for the tip. I'm actually looking forward to planting glads. There are more choices of ruffled.. double petal.. and the bulbs are much more cheaper than amaryllis and lilliums. I'll share that tip with my FB friend.

Hollyhocks are beautiful Susan. Too bad that persistent survivor will get mowed down.

Will be trying to keep myself busy today. Cutting more fabrics. As I had said earlier, sister said she rather the kids get quilts.. don't have to be sent out by Christmas!! She said to take my time as she understood the process of making one. Whew!!
My nieces have chosen the colors for their quilts. Fortunately none wants pink! Thank God.
The oldest, Dewi, wants Oriental prints, the youngest girl wants mauve, lavender to purple tones and the middle girl has been wishy washy. Knowing her, she'll be wanting one with brown, earthy tones.
Alex will still be a throw, my choice.

Better wake up Kel. He has to bring his dad to the doctor's. That's another thing too, she refused to make doctors' appts. to fall on Kel's off day.
It's always during his working days, knowing he has to work at night and need the day's sleep.

I'm really stressed... thank God I can voice it here.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Jaye! That is what we are here for. VOICE away!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Jaye, you know I am always here! This so sad Kel's mother doesn't step back and let him live his life--I know many do not. Being a MIL I know how hard it is not to interfere with a son and do believe me when I say, I really have to work at it. It has not been a easy task to do but each day I try.

Well it is TGIW (thank goodness it is Wednesday) day for us. Kim has a fall break starting tomorrow but most of the day will be spent with some medical test. She is okay just time to make sure the diabetes is being managed. Hopefully before she returns to work next week, we will have some time to go to a movie or do something else special.

Have a great day everyone.

Jaye, please, oh please, take care.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Marion she gets a fall break, and also off for Thanksgiving?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes, but most of the fall break is furlough days--days they aren't paid. That is what is being done now to cut the expenses--give them days off and call them furlough. She will have approximately 9 days this year off without pay. In short, loses money --no other way to put it.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wow, I did not know that! Pretty sad!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Yeap, but this is the second year and more furlough days this year. They have cut the pay for teaching what is called an extended day --no planning period, classes run 30 to 41, not enough chairs nor computers for classes that large. Rooms designed to accommodate 25 students as a rule. Atleast she has a job.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

awwwwwwwww poor Kim - how long has she been a teacher?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Not just Kim but all teachers --this is her 24th or might be her 25 year teaching. It has to do with the economy of course. This is the way Georgia is handling their education short fall with the budget. Funny thing, no ones in the top levels have been cut. They aren't hiring any new teachers just adding more per class. Sad state of affairs.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yes, it's a sad state of affairs when the top levels don't get cut, but those with lesser paycheques to begin with do.....

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

As I said, at least she has a job--a little more stressful than I wish it was for her right now but nevertheless a job. In addition she is currently working on her Specialist degree headed for an ED.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

And what would that degree move her towards?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Completion of the Specialist would give her a 6K salary jump. The Ed is something she has always said she was going to do and it mostly would be for her Dad who encouraged her at every step of the way on anything she undertook. Also opens up other areas as far as teaching goes.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

well, Good For Her! When should she be completed with the degree, do you think?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Summer 2012 with the Specialist is the target date. Ed not sure of finishing time--depends on when the classes are offered she will need to finish.

I read Tink's article and was pleased she chose to write that. Someone just might read it that otherwise would not pay attention to the warning signs.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks LK, I tried posting and it failed. Thank God, she went to the E.R in the nick of time.

Well, Kim can look forward to a better Christmas next year!
I have to admire her for wanting to improve herself. It's a shame that a progressive country like ours do not appreciate teachers. We don't even have a Teacher's Day!!
Yep, the govt. is treating it like another business. Pay the top brass big bucks.. who cares about the rest!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm so glad Stacey wrote that, too - I didn't think it was long, but very necessary!

Marion - it will take awhile, but I gather it will be worth it in the end....

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

In Kim's words: " I could be 49 by summer, 2012 and no Specialist or be 49 with it" and for the ED, well, I just don't believe she will stop without it--that is just Kim.

Jaye, it is funny you should say that about respect. Kim has told me before that meeting with parents of students from other countries is entirely different than those from the US. Teachers are held in high regards but unfortunately we don't---after all it is any easy job, 3 months off during the summer (she works from last week of July to middle of May); and all the money in the world to buy the extras for the classroom that funding doesn't cover.

Sorry, I am getting off my soapbox before I offend someone!!!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

You have every right to be angry Marion.
In Singapore, teachers' housing are subsidized.
Reason: To avoid a brain drain to other Asian countries.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Marion - I think we all agree - teachers are not as respected as they should be, in either Canada or the States!
keep right on your soap box, dear!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Actually Jaye, I am not as angry as I might sound. Just embarrassed at us as a country and the value we place on education but fail to fund it properly.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sistah's please don't forget this is Wednesday, and 9:00 pm is prayer time.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks LK!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Three hours from now, which means we have 3 hours of straight praying! :-)

to tired to post
will catch up soon
hugs
sue

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm too busy to post LOL
helping Jackie at her office today, then Bible Study, then setting up the library at the church, then Choir Practice......... whew!!
cya later - know that you're all in my thoughts and prayers!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks for your faithful prayers sistahs. I had a good day's sleep today.
Shoulders are not slumped, and mind's much clearer.
To do list will be rescheduled for another day!! Lol!!
My furries thought I'm punishing them for not feeding them at the usual time.
Kel didn't do it, thinking I'll be up before he leaves for work. Men.. why must they be told and not take their own initiative?
I'm sure if my furries could talk, they'll be cussin' at Kel.

Hope you are all either getting rest or having a productive day.

Love to all!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Afternoon everyone! Susan hope your not working too hard? Sue, are you still making cider? Did you go to Cookies for your mini roundup?
Jaye, sounds like you needed the sleep. Rest is good for the soul.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

LK, my eyes sure need the rest too! They're so swollen from all the crying, my eyes are much more "Chinese" now!! Lol!!!

Yah, we need pictures of the mini RU. Guess we'll just have to check out the ORVG forum.

yep still pressing cider
just busy busy
hope to get things are quiet again soon
hugs

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

LK - of course I'm working hard - believe it or not (and you likely do......) I'm rather an intense person and take things to the MAX and to their logical conclusions - do not like leaving things on the "back burner" and believe things should be done properly........
