Randy and I saw an airdale over the weekend.. just beautiful.. but I would never want a dog that big either
NE Pets forum #17
This description was why I never looked into getting one "The Airedale Terrier may have dominance challenges toward family members he sees as submissive. This can lead to willfulness and disobedience. "
Airedales are very tough dogs to manage.....not for the beginner! But one of my males, Skippy, was a doll, except he didn't like other dogs when he was on a leash.....off leash, he was better....but there are so few places that a dog can be off leash......Robin actually liked other dogs....he just hated people. But for the few he did like, he was loyal, sweet, & very funny! Suey & I miss him terribly.
hugs RD
Well, this made me cry!

Thanks, Allison....and Memory that was a great story....when Doug & I found out our Irish wolfie only had 2 weeks to live, we took her to a different, favorite hiking place every day.....when I came home from school on the 29th of Sept. she was having trouble breathing....she was 120 pounds....we couldn't bury her, so we took her to the vet's that minute....we cried all the way there, & all the way home.......
I received a pet sympathy card from Robin's kennel today....I never called to tell them he was gone, but someone must have....it was signed with a personal message from every worker he had contact with.....that's why I love that kennel.....they were so good to him.
On a brighter note.
Jim & I were doing wood and Mr. G was with us. Jim has logs here and there. Mr got running and jumped from 1 log to the other (the logs were 4 feet off the ground). He jumped from log to log.
9 feet plus, just playing. I know it was that far, I measured it.
He is not that big as some of you have seen him. 60 lbs or medium dog. He is one brute as far as strength. On the other hand he will cry to come into the house like a spoiled little kid. Pitbulls have a bad reputation.
That is so true about their reputation. We just had a 20 month old child in Connecticut killed by three pitties in the apartment where the child was visiting with his parents.
The two next door to me were raised with tiny babies in the house. I would trust Wanda and Daisy (!) forever with people but not with my cats. Wanda tries to get my two gray strays who always manage to hurt her. And as soon as I hear the noise of crying dog - I come out and stand between Wanda and the cats until her people get her back. I really think the cats would win with her - that said - someone was walking a pittie down the street and it saw the grays talking to me close to the sidewalk and almost pulled the owner's arm out of socket. I was yelling at the grays to go in the back yard and they were ignoring me - making eye contact with the dog. They were going to take him on! Stupid cats.
Cats don't like to back down...I read that article about the pits...you have to supervise any dog with a baby! Mr. G has a lovely personality.....
He really does.
Yes, Mr. G. was a real sweetie at our RU.
Yesterday we took our girls and my son's dog, Donnie, to the Blessing of the Animals at my son's church in Conn. There was a young bull dog puppy there our dogs all liked. It was a fun event. Our 9-year-old grandson went with us. He's on the left in the photo. :) My son couldn't make it, so we went in his place.
It must have worked. The dog in the middle looks like he's praying :) Seriously, that sounds like an event I'd love to attend given the opportunity.
They were blessing the animals at several churches near me today as well, but I had to feed Mom & sister, so I couldn't get there....handsome grandson.....he's tall for 9!
How nice Louise!
My dog Bella is a boxer pitt mix, and is very sweet, and very strong. She also weighs about 65 lbs, but doesn't look it. It's all muscle. And it's crazy how agile and accurate she is. I've watched some amazing jumps!
A co-worker had a little lap dog for more than 10 years. She would sleep with it. One night when she was going back to bed, the dog was on her pillow, so she pushed it over. The dog bit her in the face, and hung on. She had trouble getting it off, ended up with a swollen mouth and stitches. Pitts are just really strong.
Ouch - not sure what I would do. not being in that position? 85% sure the dog would go south. I have no tolerance for a dog that bites.
Mr. G has gotten Jims hand while playing as a puppy or young dog. Jim scolded him and he tucked his head and tail. So thats a bit of a different incident.
Mr. is not going to be a puppy much longer. He will be a teenager Oct. 13th. He will be 2. It seems just yesterday I put him on here! Yak makes me feel old.
I know what you mean Sherrie, Jake my Chinook will be 12 next spring. His arthritis is bothering him already and the winter cold hasn't even arrived. His eye sight is failing, he's down to only 40% sight in one eye and I worry about him falling down the stairs because if it. Brian will be cutting out a piece of the railing in the front so he no longer will have to use the stairs. As you would for a baby or an elderly family memeber...we are making changes to accomodate and keep him safe. :)
Wow.....that dog, Debi, was in charge of that lady & he knew it....you can't let a dog put teeth on you, even in play...that's why adopting a grown dog is sometimes risky....you don't know what kind of training or socialization the dog has had....Suey was fine...Robin wasn't.
My point of the dog bite was it was a little old dog, had never bitten before, slept with her owner every night for more than 10 years, in the middle of the night, awakened, probably frightened and bit her.
She couldn't believe it happened.
any animal can bite
sorry about Jake Celeste
That's funny, Rosemary. That's our Carli in the middle, doing her "Oh Please, Oh please, Oh please!!" thing.. Both of them do it when they want to get to someone or something.. I think she wanted a splash of Holy Water. LOL
Yes, Marilyn, Ben is almost as tall as I am, and he's only 9!
Basketball scholarship, Louise :>)....Yes, Deb, you're right...any dog...or any pet for that matter, can bite.
Some small children as well.
Funny AYC!
Giggle....
:)
he he.
Yes, Sherrie, they do....my parents poodle went senile at age 14....he didn't recognize me at all......
Sad but true.
Cute.

Very cute!
Aww. Cats are so computer literate, and so cuddly. My dog wouldn't do that!
no clue
Sounds like a pheasant that lost its tail!
I agree with Robin, sounds like a pheasant to me.
We used to have ring neck pheasants. I read that the population is quite reduced, which is why everyone doesn't recognize them.
