She's about to...62... Fall is almost here!

I am glad to see Home makeovers is down there building "normal" type houses and building a whole block, that is amazing. I still can't imagine going thru that. Hope I never know.

Brighter note, I picked probably the last of my tomatoes since we are getting down to 29! I thought this made a pretty picture sort of looks like harvest time.

What a touching story of truly unselfish heroism, happ, and a happy ending to boot being reacquainted with his girl. Our tomatoes have been gone for months but a neighbor's plants are still going strong. With a hard frost predicted this week-end, she brought us a huge bag of mostly green Romas and some other kind last week. Since I don't fry much and figured it had been umpteen years since we had fried green tomatoes, it was high time! So far I've cooked two batches for our lunch and served a big cup of butternut squash soup on the side. Yum yum!

Your Jack-O-Lantern looks so spooky, Debra...lol Who carved it?

I haven't bought a single pumpkin yet this year. I don't like anything cooked with pumpkins and the darn things are $5 each for medium size ones at Wallyworld. A bit much since I only want them for decorations and am going to an old-timer's farm on the other side of town to see what he has. It's a pretty cool farm with cows, goats, sheep, and pigs. He grows Strawberries for Spring pickin and corn and pumpkins for a Fall harvest. Whatever is left he feeds to his animals. He grades pumpkins, loads them on several old-fashioned wagons and props up pieces of cardboard with the prices at the end of each wagon. And you won't believe this, but whatever you buy is on the Honor System. Grab an envelope from his false mailbox, write on the outside what you bought and how many, and put your money in it. He's the only one I know around here that does that anymore except a fellow in the next town who sells large fresh brown eggs for $2 a dozen.

Joyce, that just makes me go on a rant. Millions of people pay insurance premiums of all kinds for years and years and then never use it. I know, I used to sell it. Then when you need to use it, they say "some reason" doesn't cover what ever claim you have? Pshaw!
tomatoes? You had tomatoes? what is that? LOL
college girl works at a grocery store, paid three bucks for her large pumkins and carved them. She is getting two more tommorrow, and bakes the seeds, and I turn them into pie after halloween by slicing, baking and blendring the meat, we use it in everything.

I remember farm fresh eggs.. and deilvered milk, boy, those were the days.

The brug tree and oleander is ever where from Esther..

Debra what a pretty picture!

We have a farm that puts out a trailer on the main corner of town, and everything is on the honor system, starting in the spring with strawberries, then going to whatever is in season and finishing in the fall. It is nice that this community is still honorable.

I just couldn't believe the insurance company wasn't going to pay under workers comp, I realize it was an act of nature, but he was at work, trying to protect those other folks. I had never heard of such a thing! Once it got out in the public the insurance company sure changed their mind. Sad that wages for those folks are so low and health insurance is soooo expensive. I know at our company it is so expensive but I am lucky the company picks up a huge amount of it, but one day I know they will start passing those increases on to us.

Well glad I didn't pull all the tomatoes cause now the freeze has been take out....why do I listen to these people...rofl.
I plan on fried green tomatoes, but that is all I know how to make except for eating the red ones.
I am open to any receipes that don't require canning, I can freeze, but canning is a tad scary to me, sides not having any of the stuff to can with.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

wrap those green ones up individually with news paper and stack them in a box and put them in a cool dark area and eat them all winter long, that is what I did all these years except this year, we had our last tomatoe at xmas dinner last year, Joyce.

the basement gardens are being organised one evening at a time, I just finished the brug room, AGAIN. I coulda swore I wasn't gonna keep all these, and I have a bucket of root balls out in the garage. *sigh*
