Morning! Just realized I haven't received my notice to renew my auto tag--called was mailed in August so I have to go down in person to get new tags before I leave. Not what I planned for the day.
Doctor's appointments went well. I am having some issues with the implant but it is related to a very old (48 yr.) eye injury that left scare tissue. Eye is doing very well, everything looks good according to the doctor but says it might take a little longer to completely adjust because of the scar tissue. Now that I know I can deal with it. Other eye on hold until I go see Mom and can assess what is happening. Other doctor had an emergency so had to reschedule--not a problem.
The student who she did the pancake cake for didn't believe it was really cake. Kept insisting it was pancakes until he took a bit! Was fussing at her for ruining perfectly good pancakes with chocolate icing. Last laugh was on him.....Kim said he ate the entire thing! Talk about one sick child today. LOL Said thanks for mentioning Nutella---thinks it would be really good to use that on another one.
Off to the tag office and a few more errands that must be taken care of before Tuesday.
Have a great day all!
§Sweet Interruptions 226§
Sorry to hear you have errands to do! Sounds like your headed south again Tuesday?
Jaye, no new growth, much less buds on my brugs! the poor things are stunted at about 3 foot tall, and very few leaves!

Lk, errands are just a way of life!! You can only procrastinate so long doing some things! LOL
Okay ladies, something that is very near and dear to my heart: Prostate Cancer Awareness----it is this month in addition to Ovarian Cancer Awareness. Encourage the men in your life to have their checkup!!! With regular check ups it can be caught early and treatments have advanced so much in the past 7 years. In case you are wondering, yes my late husband was checked regular (job requirement) but the type he had was not a common form. His was the exception not the norm! Still it is good to be checked and be aware. Thank you for letting me on the "soap box"
Hubby got his check up last week! All is good!
That kid will never forget Kim all his life. Doing something special like that, makes Kim an extraordinary teacher. It shows she truly care for her kids. She's an awesome mentor, I'm sure!
May your eye continue to heal, Maid M.
Don't you worry about Kel. He had his intensive check up last month. All clear. The wonderful part was his insurance covered the cost!
Thumbs up on that!
Woooohoooooo... LK, I got my box!!! Thank you dear, dear sistah!!!
I'd post in the swap room, but I have to get batteries first for this little camera. It would be tomorrow afternoon when I could go into town. Or maybe Sunday.. hmm.
You are such a sweetheart!!! Love everything you sent, and you dare called me up asking me when is it okay for my assigned buddy to mail 'her' package! You are sooo bad!! Got me fooled!
LOL good for you, LK - Jaye needs to be surprised now and then LOL
She sure did a good job, Susan!
It would have been another regular day, if not for her box. PLUS, there were quilting mags in it!!! That's GOLD to me!! Lolol.
hey folks
been crazy busy
had to deal with SSI with Jess. they gave her to many food stamps ? 452.00 and i thought it was a bit " to g ood to be true ?"
LOL so i had her be cautious and she had 300 for a back up, so they took that.
kids had soccer 4 games this week
played in this heat. 97 not including heat index made it over 101... mama was not happy ! one ref started to toss his cookie's !
mama got in a tiff with the president of the soccer association.
we forgot to bring LUcy in one afternoon. she got a whole 30 min outside off a leash ..... came home a slobbering , foaming mess. wtih the biggest grin on her face i think she had fun.
no rain here either.
tomorrow is farmers market and kids want to spend some money they earned this summer.
prayers for Janice surgery
Glad you got your box of jammies Jaye! Hope they fit OK, and enjoy those magazines! Hope they are not duplicates.
Hello Ladies,
I read everything then come to make a post and forget what I have read. Dang CRS!
Thoughts and Prayers to Janice
Umm that pancake cake look so yummy
Must go to the PJ swap and see what you Ladies are getting
Got the a/c going it 100 today ugh and again 2marrow. Can't wait for next week when I'm up in the Redwoods where it will be in the 80's, but the mornings will be chilly 40's bbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I know Doug and Harlee will be snuggling up to me, lol I am like an electic blanket.
Got a text from my daughter " We miss you, Taylor wants to know why you can't come stay when she is not sick" aw that gave me tears ^_^ so I told my daughter that I will come up and stay a day or two next month. Taylor said to me "Grandma, I want some birdhouse to paint and some paint just like yours, oh and I need brushes too" lol love it!!! So I am going to start picking up houses and paints everytime I go shopping.
Doug's 94 yr old grandma is going to be coming to live with us. His mom can not handle taking care of her anymore. So the options we have are put Nanny into a care home then we would have to move out of this house because the minute HUD finds out she no longer lives in it they will close it up, or bring Nanny here to live with us and take care of her and get paid for it. All she does is sleep, pee and poop, lol that is what Doug's mom said. I told Doug we need to start getting our priorities in order and start looking for a house of our own because I don't think Nanny will be with us too much longer. If she makes thru this year it will be a wonder. He has to have some letters written by friends and family about him before and after joined the Army, before they will give him an honorable discharge. Trying to get him to do things is like pulling teeth. He get frustrated really easy.
So now the Harley's have been put on hold :( A home is more important.
Haven't tried them on yet, LK. The prints are so dainty and sweet. You picked them well. But I want to take pics of them first before they're wrinkled!
I'm a subscriber to Quiltmaker, (love that mag) do you want me to send it back to you? I don't mind..
Sue, the soccer mama!!! The soccer association will be making sure they'd avoid another confrontation from you!
Yep, soccer is a national sport and played in hot, humid weather in many countries. My dad would drag us all to soccer matches when his favorite team's playing. Only time he'd go by himself, unless it's out of the country.
My favorite team in the late 60s was Manchester United :D
Lucy must be wishing there will be more days like that for her!!
Bless your heart, Cindy. Poof.. there goes another dream!! But you're right, a house is more important than the Harleys, and that's your original plan.
Not easy being a conscientous caregiver, but Nana will be well taken care of by you.
That's good that Taylor's interested in picking up craftmaking. She'd certainly learn a lot from you.
Time for bed.. house is quiet when Kel starts working nights. Lola and I will have the whole bed to ourselves and no snoring noise to wake us up. Best part is I'm able to play the music I want to listen to in bed!!! He'd normally play his reggae or something incomprehensible like Tom Waitts!!!
Good night sistahs. May you all have good restful sleep!
Good morning!
It certainly feels good to extend one's sleep!!
Coffee is ready, it's croissants and rolled ham!
Morning Jaye! Thanks for the breakfast.
We lost our power early this morning so my coffee was really late!!! Just finished a cup but thanks Jaye. Might have another one.
Off to Borders to see what they have to sell. They are closing the store and all fixtures are reduced 80%---might find some bookcase left Kim and I could redo for the "dungeon". One of her fellow teachers got some last weekend and say they were really good prices and nice units. Here is hoping some are left.
Very breezy here this morning with rain predicted after midnight--heavy rains according to our weather report. We shall see.....................................
Gotta finish a few unfinished things...right Jaye? LOL
I m sad to say that Cookie's mom has been moved from the hosp to a care center and will be close to needing hospice care. she is doing well considering.
i did not talk to her yet but Ric has informed me of her mom's condition. So i hope i get this right ? . I wanted to keep you all updated.
I do know she is feeling the love from all of you and your prayers.
very hot here today. very humid. down right awful out.
staying inside
went to farmers market
did the mall thing
kids got there stuff
i got lots of canning and drying to do tomorrow.
here is the post that Ric gave.
Well I just got off the phone w/ Joyce and got her permission to post this.
She's doing well w/ her leg and the Surgeon is tentatively saying the screw will come out in 4 weeks.
Then she should be able to go to a walking boot.
As most of you know her Mother was diagnosed w/ Cancer last year.
At her age she opted not to have treatment.
Well her Mother had been in the Hospital for the last 12 days.
The Cancer has spread and is now in her lungs.
She is in a center at Otterbein that is the stage between Hospital and Hospice.
From what she described, and my experience w/ Dad, it sounds like she's shutting down.
Cookie is spending most all her time there now.
She has no internet connections so I will be her contact here.
Feel free to call me for other info if you need it.
She's hard to reach by phone but I'll pass any and all posts on to her.
Ric
Thanks for the update on Cookies Mom! How is Cookies leg healing? Please let her know we are still sending prayers her way!
Thank you so much Sue!!! You're our link now to Cookie. We'll keep her in our prayers and I do hope that she's getting some family help. Thank you Ric... thank you.
Marion, I got to stick to LK's advice. Finish what you start!!! Lololol..
Mercifully your lights return, Maid M. It would be hard to dress in the dark!!
Noles has speared!!!! Hope your team wins!
Thanks for the update on Cookie's mom. Sending hugs and many prayers her way, I know how difficult this can be.
Okay, so LK is responsible for telling you to finish what you start. Hummm, did that include the Bailey's? LOL
Kim and I went to Borders (bookstore) but I should have stayed home! Oh did I get into trouble....bought 6 48" tall by 36" wide bookcases with adjustable shelves. The best part, they are solid wood. Can't buy the flimsy ones at the home improvement stores for that price. Now we will be able to get our books out of boxes and closets and displayed like they should be. Some shelves obviously will house knick knacks (dust catchers) we have collected in our travels. We won't be able to get them until the end of this month but that gives us time to finish the wall where they will live in the dungeon. So we eat beans for a while...it will be worth it.
Last I heard FSU was winning but then my sister called with an update. Mom is doing better with the infection but it has taken a toil on her physically.
Off to do something productive that doesn't require money!!!
Hi - did two more Christmas cakes today (will do at least 2 more, and that will be 6 - may do more to make sure I have enough to sell) and now I have to go buy some dark spiced rum for the "soaking" every week! Sure makes it moist!
Better go now - cya later!!
I thought this was worth cutting and pasting over here.
A classic
CRABBY OLD MAN
When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in Moosomin,
Saskatchewan , it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.
Later, when the nurses were going through his meagre possessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.. One nurse took her copy to Alberta.
The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the St. Louis Association for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.
And this little old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet.
Crabby Old Man
What do you see nurses? . . . .. . What do you see?
What are you thinking . . . . . when you're looking at me?
A crabby old man . ... . .. . not very wise,
Uncertain of habit . . . . . with faraway eyes?
Who dribbles his food . . . . . and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . . . . . 'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice .. .. . .. . the things that you do.
And forever is losing . . . . . A sock or shoe?
Who, resisting or not .. . . . . lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . . . The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking? . .. . . . Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse . . . . . you're not looking at me..
I'll tell you who I am. . . .. . . As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, . . . . . as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten . . .. . . with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters . . . . .. who love one another.
A young boy of Sixteen . . . . with wings on his feet.
Dreaming that soon now . . . . .. a lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . . . my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows . . . . . that I promised to keep.
At Twenty-Five, now . . .. . . I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . . .. And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . . .. . With ties that should last.
At Forty, my young sons . . . . . have grown and are gone,
But my woman's beside me . . . .. . to see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . .. My loved one and me.
Dark days are upon me . . . . . my wife is now dead.
I look at the future . . . . . shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing . .. . . . young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . . . and the love that I've known.
I'm now an old man . . . . .. and nature is cruel.
'Tis jest to make old age . . . . . look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles . . . . .. grace and vigor, depart.
There is now a stone . . . . where I once had a heart.
But inside this old carcass . . . . . a young guy still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells.
I remember the joys . . . . . I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living . . . .. . life over again.
I think of the years, all too few . .. . . . gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . .. . that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people .. . ... . . open and see.
Not a crabby old man . .. . Look closer . . . see ME!!
Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within.
We will all, one day, be there, too!
PLEASE SHARE THIS POEM
The best and most beautiful things of this world can't be seen or touched. They must be felt by the heart.
Marion - thank you for sharing - it's so true that the older ones have their "Me" overlooked in order for the "job of the day" to be done.
I'm hoping to get a job in a care home, and I wonder who I'd meet should I be lucky to work in the building.
You're lucky to find those bookcases Marion. All my bookcases are 'specials' found at Big Lots. It's been 5 years, and I'm surprise how they hold up to the weight of very thick "coffee table" books!!!
Kel said, if I don't mind looks.. if need be.. he'd get those shelving units from Lowe's just for hardware. Hmm.. don't have a dungeon.. but he can put them in HIS workshop!!
Good to read that your Mum's infection has cleared up.
You and Cookie sure have a lot on your plates.
Marion, I love that poem. ALL nursing home facilities should put up prints of that in all the rooms.
The sad thing about service, Susan, is that most homes here are understaffed, and they're hard pressed to get things done as quickly as they can.
Bless your heart Susan for doing more than 100% for your church.
Our church sure needs you!! When the pastor called for a bake sale, ALL of the church ladies brought store bought stuffs. Said it's cheaper to buy!!! Me.. I just tithe more!!!
You know, I'm yet to check my Google email.. will have to do that asap right? More recipes.. more yummies!!
Morning everyone! Coffee is ready!
This is from Betty's thread. She got an email from Janice, so I am pasting it here.
Surgery went well yesterday. They only had to take out the tumor and one lymph node. No cancer was found in the nodes. I am home and having only a small amount of pain. My friend Jan from Lansing is down and taking good care of me. Pepper is giving me good doggie kisses and staying close.
Obviously all of your prayers and good wishes helped so keep them up when I go into Radiation Therapy. They wont start that until the breast heals some but it will be a 5 day a week for 6 weeks things so I will be busy.
Love
Janice
Jaye - the Christmas cakes are Not for the church's sale. They're for my table sale. I'm hoping to make some $$ for Bob & I. Sorry to disillusion you, m'sistah! At the last sale, in May, I didn't sell a gosh-darned thing and only bought stuff from my other church friend's tables lol I did buy a table runner with Praying Hands and embroidered it for the church's piano seat, but now I need to put it on the seat and get it to the church....... another one of my "to do" list items!!
Morning sistahs.
LK, would you please post that for other praying sistahs to know too.
That's indeed good news that she had no complications and that her BFF would be taking care of her. We'll just have to continue praying for her won't we, and we'll gladly do that.
Well then Susan, I wish you a very successful sale! I used to soak the cake in brandy, of course not the VVSOP kind, but the cheaper old pale!! It was my Eurasian girl friend's recipe, that every few days before Christmas, just pour some brandy over it, and that will certainly keep it moist, besides 'curing' it! Her recipe calls for very finely minced preserved fruits and nuts. I'd never mince the fruits, but would coarsely chop the nuts.
Another Sunday not going to church. Anyway, Kel came home late this morning and I don't have the heart to wake him up to look for a church.
So, guess I will follow one of the televangelists' sermons. It's gonna be an easy peasy lunch. Already have beef roasting in the oven. Roast beef sandwich, anyone?
May today be a grand Sunday for y'all, and Crissy, enjoy your Labor Day holiday.
Jaye, I posted it in the other room also!
Todd cooked a best beef brisket yesterday, and I made pico de gallo, and potato salad! YUM!!!
Oh hush up Sis!!!!
I'd love to do a brisket, but couldn't find any at our regular low priced grocery store :P
Yes, thank you for posting. I saw that!
good to hear of Janice surgery went well and no cancer in the nodes
good luck with your sales !
we got several inches of rain and some nasty storms with it too last night.
today is pickled beet day
was going to do the squash too, but no onions ..uhg... how did i forget that ?!
got tomato's in dehydrator and some green beans. cranked it up to 155 . hope it helps with this humidity in the basement .
got one more 25 lb box of tomato and then i think i m done ! ? with tomato's
honestly i wish i did more corn but just didn't have the energy this year.
welp time to get busy
Todd said the briskets were on sale, $1.59 lb. Not too long ago, they were only .99 lb!
Thanks for the report on Janice.
Well Lee's outer bands are pounding us with rain and some winds. Nature sure did a pruning last night on the dead limbs and leaves!! Yikes but I woke up to a messy yard..plus 2" of rain last night. Emptied the rain gauge so it will be interesting to see what we have today. We have a lot of thunder and are in a tornado watch area so life goes on. LOL
Kim and I are settled in for a long rainy day and night only to be repeated tomorrow if the weather reports are to be believed. Nothing compared to what LA is experiencing for sure.
Dumb me seem to have missed how far out the outer bands reached from Lee.
All have a wonderful Sunday.
Be careful Marion. Just call your handy yard man when it is done, and he will have it cleaned up in no time.
Sue, your pickled beets and beans were awesome, when I had them last year!!! Goodness girl, you need to start selling them at a fair.
Oh don't worry LK, Kim and I are being very careful. That is why we have settled in for the day. To many items falling from the trees albeit small items, they still hurt when they hit you.
My lawn had called me almost 3 weeks ago to tell me he was coming the next day to work but was a no show. Turns out his grandson in NC got hit by a car and he was gone. Grandson doing okay but was extremely lucky. He was playing football with some friends and inspite of being told not to run into the street, he did without looking of course. He has several broken ribs, broken ankle, fingers, and a lot of cuts and scrapes. Doing okay but long recovery.
Well the rain had slowed a little but there is more on the way according to radar.
Oh my gosh, sounds like he was a very luck boy! Praying he heals quickly.
Yes, he was extremely lucky. Thanks LK, I am sure Lynn will appreciate the prayers for his grandson. I was very lucky when I found him to do my yard work...really nice person.
That boy certainly has an angel! How did I miss your post Marion?
Flooding is expected in my old home town.. but then those Cajuns are taking this in great stride. After all, LSU won and that's all that matters, say my ex :(
Be careful Marion. Hope you don't find any slithering creatures and I don't mean gators!!
Trust me Jaye, I look really good before I walk around--especially the back yard area. Not going to be doing much of that today or tomorrow....raining to much and to many items coming down. LOL Just don't want one of those things to be me going down.
I'm bored!!!
Spent too much time on FB!!! Should have looked for a church :(
Not raining here, should be a good day to spend outside, Marion, but I don't feel like it!!
Well, Kel's gone to work.. cats are snoozing.. think I'll just clean the pantry!! Cans need dusting anyway!
Thank you Jaye i m glad you liked them.
The more i can in the pressure canner the more i like my dehydrator LOL . i have beets in them at moment. But it sure is a pain to keep the pressure at the right temp. and so much more work !
these are for the fair I did the big boo boo too. i had two groups of beets small golf ball size and then some larger ones.
well the smaller one were for the pickled and the larger ones for the reg beets. well guess which got where ? duh ! i thought i had enough in the second batch but didn't so ??? bummer.
but i ain't doing anymore
on to other things to get ready for fair next year.
careful out there Marion
sorry to hear of the little guys accident. so glad it was only broken ribs and not a head.
