We felt it here, actually not me, but the woman sitting next to me did, then looked at the rest of us in the room, and none of us noticed anything, so she thought her butt was twitching, but it was a long twitch. She felt better when others in the next room also felt it.
Weather In Your Garden # 104
I was at work when the building started shaking. I was just about to clock out for lunch and decided to skip the clocking out part, just get OUT. They kept us outside for about a half hour, at least it was a beautiful day to kill some time outside. I don't scare easily, but I'll admit, I got scared!
this one felt different from the one we had last year.. last years felt like an explosion .. this one.. shimmy shake.. I was watching my spray bottle out the slider door.. water just sloshing around
You have to hear hubby tell the bathroom story...oh man soooooo funny!!!
Oh and HELLO??!!!!! did anyone know that CO had an earthquake last night??? Why did I not hear about that this morning?????
http://www.kcoy.com/story/15318988/colorado-has-strongest-earthquake-recorded-in-40-years-monday-evening
I was in my art class....nothing at all.....when I came back to town, I asked a few folks...nothing. But my son called & he said his workplace rippled....the computers were sliding. Lots of ledge on the western side of the state, that's why we didn't feel it, but the central part of the state is sandier........
Yes, Jen, my art teacher knew because her daughter lives in CO....we were actually talking about it when 2 class members came in....one was on the phone with her son who said his office in Newington, CT was evacuated because of an earthquake....the rest of us were like....What?
Well this is the dumbest thing I read about the earthquake from a geologist
He was talking about why the differences among the east and west coast earthquakes
"it was felt so far away because(among others things that make sense) It's older "
REALLY??? the east coast is older than the west coast??? and when exactly was the west coast created??? before or after Columbus "discovered" America
WOW GUYS.....glad you are ALL ok!!!
How's your mouth, Pixie?
Im fine this was just the consult and get my date. I go Sept. 13th, they will put to sleep, take them out and i'll be good as new in a few days.
May you be pain free!
Hope so, thanks.
heard about the quake. It was felt in Cleveland, but I didn't feel it here. Possibly too far west to.
Hope it solves your mouth problems, Celeste.
Didn't feel anything here, but a friend in Concord did & wonder what happened. they never have TV new on so when bad storms are to appear, I call them.
Interesting article about the quake on Yahoo.com: http://news.yahoo.com/why-virginia-quake-shook-entire-coast-205833903.html
He speaks the truth Jen. The east coast is much older than the west coast as far as the formation of the continent. For instance, the Rockies were formed much later than Appalachia. The east coast has been settled much longer, which is one of the reasons why quakes are rare here. Those plates in the west are still butting up against each other causing occasional mayhem. I guess the continent is a lot like people, the older we get, the less we rock and roll :^_^
Purely speculation on their part
56 now going to 81
Good morning, everyone.
Currently 69 degrees in WNY going up to the mid 80's. Chance of thunderstorms later today. Maybe an aftershock or two also. LOL ☺
Have a blessed and wonderful Wednesday, friends.
-Dave
Will do, Dav.
Absotutely glorious here!
It's 61 right now, today will be a mix of clouds and sun. High near 80F. Winds S at 10 to 20 mph
Another great late summer day! Hope to get into the gardens to weed.....
had rain overnight. 81 and sunny now. Also nice breezes.
Just another beautiful day!
75° but sort of humid. 1 1/2 hr of weeding had me wringing wet'
Yes hotter and more humid today the a/c had to be turned back on :(
Sherrie! Long time no see!
Been through one too, (where else.. down south of course. lol)
Rain & crazy wind for hrs on end then bright and sunny, then rain for hrs again.. then afterwords, ugh! just as bad as the storm, no water, no cash machines, no gasoline.. no nothing, (except plenty of mosquitoes). Maybe it'll go away and go somewhere else or maybe the wind wont be so bad... may have to clear out the garage and park my car in it.. UGH!!
77°, H 57%, a little breezy with winds from the SW @ 17, (something wicked this way comes..), clear skies.
* Got some pics of overturned airplanes at Miami airport and a 2x4 that went through a concrete wall nice and cleanly. But I took them with film yrs ago, ... somewhere in basement stuck to each other by now. - The row of telephone poles about 1/4 mile long that broke like toothpicks all at the same point (about 3 ft off the ground), when the wind hit them, - like dominoes, really nice shots! (photographically speaking of course). - just wasn't into filing all my pics back then..
WC - don't you love the signs on Long Island for "Evacuation Route". The LIE looks like that daily so can you imagine if we were told to evacuate?
No evac though the LIE that's for sure! Sunrise Hwy would be the same thing. I saw a guy cross the double yellow Monday because of an accident on Middle Country, he was too impatient to wait he started driving against traffic! If it really got serious it would be bumper to bumper on the grass by the road, people would throw away all the rule books.
- Only way out is via ferry or just make up your mind and evac before the storm hits if you intend to leave. I'm staying unless they predict a tidal wave of 75' or more, then I'd have to re-think my strategy.. (lol!)
We had more hurricanes in CT when I was a child.....Flood of '55 caused by Connie & Diane....I still find tornadoes scarier, but that's because I'm not near the ocean where they can do such terrible damage......
But now you know when a hurricane is coming. tornados are erratic.
They come out from nowhere and blow up your house from the inside out. The low pressure is so intense the windows blow out from the difference in air pressure. My aunt's neighbor in Iowa was obliterated, her [my aunt's house] remained untouched, - that was about ~25yrs ago.
One thing is for sure, hurricanes always bring along tornadoes, guess there's just too much swirling and low pressure areas around them, when they hit Tampa there were always one or two dozen from Palm beach to Orlando. Only saw a baby one out in the citrus fields once, big enough to lift a car or two, but not big enough to destroy a solid house.
Water spouts were the only weather phenomenon that left me with 'white lips' so far, but then again I've never seen a full fledged mid-western tornado, - that would probably make my hair fall out! lol!!
Hubby and friend were walking toward the beach while everyone was going the other way.....HUGE water spout in the ocean...they are both like "COOL!!!!"
I was on a dive boat, off the coast of Belize.
73°
69 now going to 84.. said thunderstorms for later
