So sorry, Jo
Jo - condolences on the loss of Ben. They leave behind paw prints on our heart.
you have my condolences, Jo.
Yes, your new guy is adorable, playin. I could put up with drooling, slobber, gas, snorting, snoring, etc. in a dog. My sister not so much. I love bullies and plan to have one someday. That and an Irish wolfhound. That's funny, cause I went to a place in NV when I lived there where you could rent horses for trail riding. The owner of the place had several dogs, including a bullie, a wolfie and a basset. They all went with me when I went riding. I had such a fun ride that day.

Thank you, Karen, He is a wonderful boy despite his past life's experiences. I'm surprised that a bulldog could go along with the trail ride as they aren't much of a "hiker" as they don't have the stamina for long walks. I have one that goes with us when we go to the back of our property and then can't make the trip back. He'll just sit down and refuse to move so we either carry him back or tote him back in the wheelbarrow. They love to ride in anything and we do have to spell "ride in the car" in front of him. Yup, they are a unique breed!

I do like long walks, so I guess if I took a bully along I would have to bring a baby carriage for him when he gets tired. I know a woman in Plymouth who walks her cat through town all the time. That cat is 19 now, and mostly rides in a carriage. That is some cat!

My step mom in law's sis walks her cat in a stroller.....oh brother....
Wow I wish my cat would let me do that, I'm sure he'd just try to run!
my neighbor does the same, except it's a cat carrier on wheels
Wallingford will let me put a harness on him and a leash and we go out and eat grass in the back yard and the neighbors yard. LOL! I guess that is called mowing the lawn for other people.
After his recent escape and $ 300+ trip to the emergency room, I have been desparate to keep him from running out the door. I bought an adjustable window screen at a tag sale - the kind that people use for basement windows that aren't very tall. I stretch it across the door frame between the door and the storm door and it works! He has run into it twice now - it doesn't hurt him and it stops him from running out! By the third day he really wanted to go out so he went to where I keep his harness and started staring at it. So I got it out and we went for a "walk".
Years ago, my german shepherd would stare at the car keys, even though he had access to an entire back yard 24/7.
He wanted a change of scenery, and to meet other dogs, and to sniff new smells.
He also got his own $1.00 McD's double cheeseburger if we went a certain route.
good solution Memory!!
Yes that sounds like a great idea for those darting cats :)
What a smart dog! My cats hate the car, they cry the whole way to the vet.
Some of mine pee and poop in addition to screaming.
I had a Chihuahua that every time he was in my car he pooped! My husbands friend had to get rid of him and we liked him and thought he might fit in with our family. Sadly he ended up biting my daughter right near her eye and I decided I didn't want to take the chance of it being her eyeball the next time, so we found him a great child free home with one of my husbands friends. He gets to hang by the pool with other chihuahuas and seems very happy. I get to see pics of him on Facebook.
sometimes it is for the best... glad you can still enjoy him.. the lady at my barn had a king doberman .. but he was too large for the breed standard.. and she picked him up cheap.. name was Dino.. of course.. they went food shopping and left him in the car.. he got mad they didn't take him.. and pooped on her shifter.. that'll show em!!!
Lol I bet they learned their lesson!! :)
not a yorkie poo!!.. yes they did!!.. he was such a cool dog
Dogs are so smart! We're always amazed at their communication. Last night our dog Cliffie desperately wanted something, but he only perked up and wagged his tail when I said my daughter's name. She had gone out for practice driving the car, so he wanted her back, NOW!
I have to take my 2 dogs for a ride every morning and a walk every afternoon, or I can't live with them....they are SO demanding! The airedale stares at the treat cupboard...when that doesn't work, he hunts me down & barks at me.....I have to say "Treaties all gone" to make him stop.....
Dogs surprise me too, ours will go in her house if we are both getting ready to leave the house, but if only one of us is going out, she knows. She's my dog in the morning because I walk her every morning, and when the music comes on at the end of Jeopardy, she knows DH is taking her for her walk.
I think the average dog has a vocab of over 100 words...of course, ours are way above average!
Cat have two words - eat and treat.
the dogs do have a large vocabulary comprehension .. amazes me sometimes
When I get dressed in the morning and come out into the hallway my dogs, first thing, look at my feet to see what shoes I'm wearing. If I have my slippers on, they just go about their business because they know I'm not going anywhere. If I have going-out shoes on they go bananas and race for the door hoping I'll take them with me. And they know my garden shoes means we all go out in the yard for a while.
anytime I go in the yard.. and come back in the fence Lily checks out my hands to see if I have tomatoes for her
:)
My dogs know shoes too. When the sneaks go on they run to their leashes. When I lose track of the cat in the back yard I ask Casey "Where's Bugsy?". She brings me to him. The funniest was when Casey stared into the sky. I assumed she had no clue what I was talking about, but when I followed her line of vision, there was the cat up the tree. Casey knew and pointed the way! Dexter, on the other hand, is still looking for his fourth leg, no way he can find the cat.
LOL!
My wolfie would check my clothes....if I was dressed up, she went back to sleep!
Yes, I had "dog clothes" for walking the dog, so I wouldn't get "normal" clothes all gunky, and my dog quickly learned to interpret what I was wearing.
The late British dog expert, Barbara Thompson ???, said that a lot of dogs can reach the learning level of a five-year-old child if they receive training, or environmental input.
Even a three-year-old level is impressive.
Oh, my wife has a whole wardrobe for our Shih-tzus. She even got red, hooded coats with white fur edging on clearance a few years ago. Now Buster is getting his own little boy outfits, of course. He has a new t-shirt that says "What about WOOF don't you understand?". The dogs associate getting dressed with going for a ride in the van, which they love. They understand words like "supper", "cookie", and "wavy bacon" (generic treats that look and smell like strips of bacon).

Oh, that tee shirt sounds too cute!
Even horses know cars. When Jumper two's truck was replaced it evidently took the horses which she must feed less than a week to recognize the new car.
That's very smart! Right now, I have 2 nervous dogs leaning on me because of the thunder....I gave them their meds, but after last night, I'm nervous myself!
yeah that won't help em.. Jily came up on my side on the couch too .. she hasn't been nervous with a storm in a long time.. guess this one was too loud for her to deal with.. but she didn't shake.. so she is dealing with it a lot better than she used to
Not a fan of dressing up dogs, just my opinion
Wall-e ate a box of brand new crayons with the exception of the black and orange....stupid dog!
he is ready for halloween now!!!... love playing dress up!!
