We are fortunate that Grapevine Lake is miraculously down only 3 feet at this point, but the overall county levels are down by 75% so our stage 1 water restrictions are kicking in on Monday.
How hot is it?
Hallelujah!!
Winds and rain here this evening, lots of lightening and thunder. We got almost one inch at our house here in Bryan. I was shocked when we first heard thunder because we didn't expect it. It has passed and tomorrow is supposed to be hotter than ever. Trees are dying all over this area and this is just the beginning as it will take years for some to die from this stress.
Congratulations on the rain. Every little bit is appreciated and welcomed.
Silly rain runs out before it gets much to our place but Chapel hill got it good today and it was the first day this week I got off my afternoon route and wasn't soaking wet from driving in the heat with no air
We've had thunder at our place and wind but that's it and I keep telling Dh to stop putting things away or rolling up the truck windows when it thunders leave it out so it will rain but he doesn't listen so and sure enough the rain never makes it here
Podster.... Fort Worth is one of the cities supplied by Tarrant Regional Water District. We then turn around and sell water to numerous towns around north Texas. Here is their website that names the different reservoirs. http://www.trwd.com/overview.aspx
We are going on water restrictions in FW Monday. Our water table has been dropping and is now to the stage one restriction level. That means two days a week for sprinklers, and hand-held hoses other times. No watering 10a-6p has been in place for a year or so.
Sheila_FW ~ thanks for that link. I find the different water control sites very interesting and full of useful information. I love the "lawn whisperer", very attention catching.
I guess my interest is spurred because this area has never seen it like this. We always have adequate rainfall to fill our smaller reservoirs. A larger plan was not needed before. And so many people that I ask where their water comes from look at me curiously and say... the water faucet of course. That is sad because awareness is a large part of conservation.
Mibus2 ~ around here rain is so odd. It is so spotty, the road might be wet up to the county line. We live 200 yards on the other side and we will be dry as a bone.
One day a few years ago, DH said it's raining out. He was looking out in the front yard. I looked out the kitchen window (back yard) and said no it isn't. How odd from one side of the house to the other.
We had a cruel joke yesterday. Lots of thunder and a dark cloud right over us. Must have gotten all of 100 drops of water. Still hot as blue blazes. The Texas Forestry website has a lot of information about the trees. None of it good.
The lighting in the south was spectacular last night. It lighted up the whole southern sky. So far away no thunder reached me. Cool night and morning. Cool is relative. Oh well, I thought it was kewl.
Big Surprise, no rain here. Just heard that this is supposed to be the hottest weekend of the summer, I could have sworn we already had the hottest weekend....
Supposed to be the hottest here in Odessa... pitty, I won't be here to 'enjoy' it.. going to the mountains of Ruidoso... oh well, someone will have to tell me about it. (ducking now)
Yah better duck! LOL! We heard thunder this morning and smelled the rain, saw the sky darken just slightly.....then zip, just like the parting of the red sea. One to the left and one to the right....and we are stuck in the middle again. Song time...getting dingy from this heat!!
In the hundreds and continuing the hot saga here.
Tammie ~ last time you left home, it rained didn't it? Are you trying to score again? 8 )
We got a surprise shower Thur. evening. Good solid rain for about 20 min. Nothing registerd in the rain gauge, but I got run off into the rainbarrels. Gotten to check that gauge for a crack. Every Silverado sage in town busted into bloom after the 2 in. rain we got about 2 wks ago. One limb on the bush I have out back was so full of blooms it broke off. But the bees were haveing a field day. Of course now the mosqitos are out, but I'll take them if it means we've hd some rain.
First football game of the season last night: 105 at kickoff.
Don't know bout the rest of you folks but I'm not giddy about setting anymore records. I am really hoping that the weather returns to the average mark and cools slightly. I want to see all my little plants burst with new growth before the killing frosts set in.
My attention has been changed. Glad we are not in the middle of a hurricane and my home is a safe haven from the heat.
I feel the same way Christi.
The drought/heatwave is going to be hard on our pocket books from many, many angles but our homes won't be destroyed as with the hurricane.
Just got back from a family/friends visit to New Orleans. What lovely weather--in the 90's and it actually rained 2 days!! Tonight, hubby and I walked to get the mail and it was hot as a desert at 9pm. Except in the desert, it cools off at night...
You know its bad when your summer is more severe than the deserts of south africa! I am with you Perko. we have set enough records this summer, except for all time lows...
C
Our water restrictions start here this week. We will be getting up at the crack of dawn to hand water the main beds. I have put too much time and effort into this yard to let my plants die prematurely.
I am with you though Christi, for prespective, it could be much worst.
Supposed to be 112 today in Austin. Good news though. Looks like next weekend they are predicting temps in only the 90's.
Its 111.5 on my covered porch so thats in the shade. Its terrible when the 90s sounds sooo good. At least seedlings will grow and Swiss Chard should germinate in those temps. Thats the one thing I cant control is the weather.
108 here today, it sure is getting monotonous!!!
Topped out at 113 in the shade. I agree frostweed.
At least you know what the weather will be every day...
I don't ever remember it being this hot back when as a I was riding bucking dinosaurs and racing raptors at Fred's Rodeo.
On a different note, I have been in my garden every waking hour for almost 7 years. This weather has forced me into some of the projects I have had on my mind to do inside. Sorry, deep cleaning is not even on my list anymore. Got out the quilts, afghans and other oddities that I have "intended" to do. But at the very first day of 90 or under, I'm gone. Once again to tend the bounties Our Lord has provided. Very relieved that Irene's impact was not quite as bad as predicted. However, when I see how many places are flooded, I would say "impact" is a relative word.
Christi
I'm afraid that eventually we will be flood to. It seems like every drought , in Tx, is ended with a flood. In the summer of 07 we got 18 inches of rain in one night. LouC 90* sounds almost cold at this point.
Yep, when it finally gets in the 70's here, look for me in a sweater. LOL! We won't know how to adjust!
DH said they had a chance of rain in next weeks forcast..unless it changes. At least we can hope.
Last night I was out working in the yard and thinking that it was actually feeling quite pleasant. I checked the temperature and it was 96. It is amazing how much this extended heat wave has modified my perception of "pleasant"...
112................Lord, I wish fall would get here soon!!
"eyes"
TOADSUCK?? That's a new one for me. Going to Google map that now!
111 on my car thermometer coming home after church at 6:30pm.
It's in Grayson County for all who doesn't know.
That it is....

Have missed you eyes. Hope all is well with your husband.
Dog Days of Summer- bad as winter waiting...
Exactly. Used to work for two guys from New York. Business would be very slow in the summer. Told them it was comparable to a blizzard in the north. People hibernate.
John is doing fantastic..........to God be the Glory! Dawg Daze indeed!
"eyes"
That is truly a miracle from God. Very happy for you both.
