The Argentine ants were all over my shower last summer. I resorted to calling an exterminator and he was not able to do anything even after 3 visits. Seems they will set up housekeeping in the drains. I finally gave them a taste of Drano and that took care of that at least temporarily. I have Terro baits set up everywhere. With the heat and the critters, almost seems like the plagues of Egypt in the old Testament.
How hot is it?
There may well be something to that ~ Christi! Plagues and pestilence and...
I'm in New Orleans visiting with family. Not only hot, but has rained some. It is SO HUMID, it's really like a sauna. It must have been 98% Friday night in the Wallyworld parking lot!! I'm ready to come home to Houston tomorrow for some nice, "dry" heat--hahaha!
We visited "The Big Easy" some 30 years ago in July. I could not get a deep breathe the entire time we were there.
We did a mission trip with our youth after Katrina. Temps were in the 90's and it rained every afternoon. Sweaty doesn't even begin to describe it! But believe it or not we had a blast.
Yep, we got out of the car at home today and said it was not this hot in New Orleans, but more humid. We used to live in Kenner by Lake Pontchartrain. Sweltering describes it in summer. Hope we get rain here SOON!
I was in NO in Feb about 1979 and it was 22 degrees one morning. Outside breakfast of cafe and beignets at Jackson Square that day didn't happen. Me and several others froze in our suits with no heavy coats. Oh the good old days.
BTW :
Wind:
From SSW at 16mph gusting to 22mph. At least a cooling breeze and it is here now. HA HA.
TEMP:
86 at 5:30am.
Forecast high 108.
Wildcat,
My front, back and pasture all look like that. I'm also watering my foundation now. My fireants have taken up residence in or near my potted plants. When is this going to end????
I do have some of my potted plants sitting in about an inch of water since we are now in phase 2 of water restrictions. I can water on Tuesday and Friday, but not between 10 AM and 6 PM. I really wouldn't want to either so that doesn't hurt. lol
Tina my toes found some fire ants in the hay mulch around some shrub I was watering this morning. It still burns.
I don't have any water restrictions except for the DW when she tells me not to waste water because of the size of the bill. I always reply that I don't waste water then it goes on and on.

Left the water hose at a trickle under the red oak all night. Local nurseries are warning that pecan and red oak are particularly susceptible to shedding large limbs to protect themselves. Witnessed that yesterday when a limb almost as big as the trunk broke off a pecan in my neighbors yard. Not a breeze, nothing. Marianna Greene, garden editor for Dallas Morning News wrote quite a detailed article in last Thursday's paper. The worst damage is yet to come when it turns cold. Depends on how one defines "wasting water".
22 F sounds good to me right now.
New game.... rain spotting while TV channel surfing! My mother and I realized we were both doing it unconsciously when were were watching a program and had to rewind when we did not hear what was going on because we were both watching the rain outside the window in the scene. Then later we were 'spotting' rain whenever it showed up in a commercial. A good tactic for anyone in advertising right now would be to include rain.. it would be a sure way to get anyone in this area to get them to stop and watch their commercial... I have found myself actually watching commercials that have rain in them! It is getting insane.
Remember that road trip....going to Ruidoso on thrusday! ..anyone care to join me???? I sure hope it rains while I am there.. if it does, I will let you know.
We were in Ruidoso some 6-7 years ago in the motorhome. They were experiencing a long-time drought at the time and the dirt was the texture of talcum powder. It was extremely hot. Have been there many other times and we loved it. Wound up leaving early. Arrived in Artesia, New Mexico and it was 114 degrees. Kinda like home has been all summer and still going.
My neighbors trees are looking very bad as they don't water anything. I think next spring or this winter there will be some problems.
I wish I was there right now.. just checked weatherbug.. current conditions... temp: 73 with scattered rain showers! With my luck by the time we get there it will be 95 and sunny.
Might remind them they are creating a fire hazard by letting the trees die. They should at least keep the trees and shrubs alive. Maybe let the grass die. If I have to let my grass die, I will but there is no way on earth I am going to let the plants die... they protect the house and shade, hold the soil and last, will be the most expensive to replace in the future.
Most people in my neighborhood don't water. I just worry about the trees falling on the fence or the wires. They also give my yard privacy but there isn't much I can do about the situation.

...and today we have enjoyed our 47th day of temps in excess of 100° ~ I saw 107° at work.
Can't imagine how horrible it will feel (humidity wise) when and if it ever should rain.
I wil still take the rain, my plants need it so badly.
Do you think rain at these temps would be like boiling water falling from the sky? LOL
104 here today supposed to be 107 the rest of the week. I'm starting Cole type plants this week, I sure hope it cools off before they need to be potted up. I just don't have room inside for THAT many plants. Normal summers are bad enough, but this summer.....
Currently 87 and cloud cover from horizon to horizon. Dark clouds. Windy.
Imitation thunder storm? Can't be be rain.
I have learned to believe it when I see it on the ground. Yesterday was another cloud tease here too.
We have clouds too and it is only 91 at 3 pm. Wow!!!
NO rain, it passed me by but it is a little cooler.
C
Back up to 93 at 4.30 and the sun is out again, Shoot!!!
Rained here today and is much cooler as to things dying I have a Rhodedendron that looks like a goner i have tried to keep it watered but the heat was most likely just too hard on it .Last year it looked kinda bad but managed to pull thru ..Sure would hate to lose it as I planted it 11 yrs ago so now it is quite large and I can't imagine trying to replace it The pic is several years old but it was pretty even then and No Lucy is not smelling the blooms she is after a butterfly...But hey It made a good pic ..
Riding in a car going through a thunderstorm in Roswell New Mexico streets areflooding.
I did my infamous bring on the rain ritual this afternoon when the clouds were darkest and I had limited sucess. If someone else wants it to rain here is the ritual. Retreive one can of your favorite soft drink from the fridge. Get your frayed web lawn chair, mine is a rocker. Get a soft pillow to place on the frayed seat for comfort. Remove all your clothes including socks if your are wearing any. Put one of your camouflage hats on your head where you will be invisible to your neighbors. Sit down on the pillow, take a big slug of your favorite soft drink and wait for the rain. I did this this afternoon and felt three drops hit me on my arms.
On second thought I did have a lot of humming birds flying all around. NAH!

It is now down to 79. BURRRRRRRRR!
Clearing in the far west of the horizon.
I am missing it! Raining at home! Flooding advisory! 1inch in an hour and still raining. Can't wait to get back home sunday to see buffalo wallow/ freedom park full of water.
Nothing here. Still hot as blue blazes.
I heard thunder and it was raining in Burnet Co. but stopped at the Countyline. So now not only is it really hot but humid too. Oh joy!
Tammie it looks like your area got drowned! You need to post a picture so we can all remember what that's like. :)
Lisa, looks like there may be some showers this evening if they ever start moving east at all...
I hope. I shouldn't have had the kids unload the feed from the back of my truck. I have had it get rained on more then once....
No such luck. At least it rained somewhere else that needed it!
Once again the rain stopped at the County Line. But we do have the humidity, again. I'm really surprised that my Stupice tomato plant is still setting fruit.
Lisa maybe I should get some seed from you for that one. If it can still set fruit in this heat, it's a find!
It only got to 95 Friday. I want a creek filling rain.
