Some butterfly shots
Garden Photos # 16
nice Jen.. love the flutters ... JT is amazing.. and of course I love the BESV!!
love this time of the year too.. tons of them!!
Very nice pictures Jen! The female black swallowtail looks almost identical to the spicebush swallowtail. I have a real hard time telling them apart as well! The way to tell is by looking at their orange spots down near the center bottom of the wings. The orange will have a black spot in the center if it is a Black Swallowtail and if it's a Spicebush there will just be some orange. The male spicebush has two orange spots on each side again with no black spot in the center. The male Black Swallowtail is easiest to tell because he has a lot of yellow going across the wings. :) They move pretty fast so I usually don't get a chance to ID them properly unless they are a male black swallowtail.
Oh and I forgot about the black form of the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and that one looks very similar to the Spicebush!
Really great shots from everyone!!! Drooling here at all the colors! Gotta be quick....Robin, love that glad!!
Allison - your caladiums are fantastic! Makes me want to try them again. Bill sells the best ones! The first year I got them, they were gorgeous like yours, but the next year they didn't do much. It was something I did wrong and not the quality of his bulbs. His are awesome. Maybe they aren't right for the snowbird way of life.
Celeste - your Mountains Bow Down is really pretty!
Jen - love the butterfly pics! You and Meredith know your butterflies!
Bedtime........got to get up early! 'Night all and thanks for the beautiful bedtime picture stories! :)

I love the deck on a late afternoon watching the Mponarcs on their nectar trail. They are as big as the house wrens still feeding chicks.
