Best/Worse/What did I Learn today-chat with friends!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debbie, love that hummer!
No napping for this grandma.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie you can almost see his wings flapping! Knew you'd be proud..

What kind of mischief did you get into today?

I'm giving up on rose of sharons..

Laying in my pjs, have a hankering for something sweet, almost tempted to get dressed and go to variety store next door and see what is tempting

Crissy how did the luncheon go?

Been trying to stay up to read jeff/Julie's blog but if they don't post shortly I'll fall asleep..guess it doesn't matter seeing the called earlier..know they are safe

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

What a great shot Debbie. I love the hummers too.
Busy day today. My friend Elaine came over a gave me a lesson on how to make a 60* table runner. I think I'm going to like doing them.
Then Norm brought Brandon home with him to stay overnight. Sean is with other grandparents while Mom and Dad are at his company party.
So my two men took me out to eat - prime rib!!! It was sooooo good.
Now I'm fading very fast and heading to bed. My eyes are still healing I guess. They are burning a bit. I'll use the drops...
Sleep well my friends...

Lyndonville, NY

Well, I got in all kinds of trouble. Told a neighbor off...made her cry...she deserved it and if I see her again she will get another dose. Won't go into details...but it wasn't pretty and she is a "sick" person.

DH took me to Batavia to get my birthday present...a new phone. Which he has now taken over and played with before I could even touch it. Now I don't want it.

I was out watering the garden for a bit....the hummers, cardinals and blue jays are all out and about...hope to get more pictures tomorrow.

Debbie

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All / Greetings Night Shift !

Debbie - that is a GREAT photo ! Katie - thanks on the hibby ! They are my fav. plant. We have some pink ones called "Mallow" and those aren't tropical so they die down and come back every year....
LK - how cool... I can't wait (or can wait) to have GK's.... will be fun all over again but get to enjoy the second time... LOL
My Rose of Sharon doesn't look the best... but it is blooming. BUT all my hibbies have ants all over them... any advice ?

Katie - all your plants are new to me... I mean heard of .. LOVE macadamias... but never seen a plant so very very interesting....

Today I re-potted Three plumerias... one hydrangea.... a clerodendron... and a hibiscus. I hope I did right... also put some plants away. Hoping a swap will turn up...

Our Norwegian Friend emailed me... she is okay. Hubs got home at 2p and we went car shopping. No clue what to get....

Hugs,
Mary

WOW, kept hearing a strange noise......

Its pouring!!! And lightening. We need rain so bad.

Baton Rouge, LA

Barb - I LOVE PRime Rib ! Yum !

Deb - per your FB post she deserved it and Kudos to you! What kind of phone did you get ?

Lyndonville, NY

Oh Mary, if you find a Ford Escape ...you can just send one my way! Love those cars!

Lyndonville, NY

Mary it is a "go phone" by AT&T Its an LG Thrive

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Deb ! One of the ones I test drove today was a "Ford Edge"... I think we looked at Escapes... or maybe it was an Envoy I like... anyway I WILL try the Escape because I learned that the Fords might sync with my iphone... (I dont' really know what I just said)
LOL... if they do a "Buy one get one free" then I'll get you one... and drive it up to you... then I can visit Dianne and Betty while there...
We have AT&T too.. it's big in our area...
Think I just cracked another rib coughing ... I swear I'd pay $$$ to get over this darn whooping cough....

Back in a bit,
Mary

Verona, ON

We just love our Escape - easy to handle, can park it almost anywhere, good on gas, would get another one when this one dies. We have 4 wheel because of where we live and it is outstanding in the snow and on ice.
Interesting Mary what you said about grandkids. Told my DH one day don't really mind not having kids but am sure going to miss the chance to be a Grandma.
LK I meant to respond to your question about DH's pain and forgot. You'd think I was taking what he calls 'his stupid pills.' The doc really upted his pain meds so now he has long lasting morphine plus Oxys as a breathrough pain med.Its really helping, especially when he takes his night pain med with a sleeping pill the doc ordered. The only time he is really out of pain is when he is sleeping. The morph is really playing with his mind - lots of weird dreams.
So envious of your rain Debbie. I am watering twice a day and everything is still wilty looking. The fushias are especially unhappy with the weather but all of my hibiscus are doing great. Lots of flowers on every plant!!
Excellent Thunder that your sailor wants his quilt. Just think, every time he uses it he will be wrapped with love from you.
Stormy is barking so that means the raccoons are on the lake side deck. Grrrrr! Debbie cover your eyes and don't read this - I swear I am going to shoot them. I think a cottager is feeding them as they are very bold.
Mary did you enjoy our walk this morning? I know it was the crack of dawn but ya have to get out there before it heats up although I am thinking it doesn't really cool down that much.Now if we can just do something about those deer flies.
BBL
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, just let the furies/out and the other in, actually felt on the cool side, not so sure cool, just nit as hot/humid as it's been..could use cooler weather today, wouldn't have stayed all day with Elvis's had it been.

No rain and as Dianne says, we sure do need it up here! Looking at weather there is a good chance for rain/thunderstorm most of this week coming, will almost be enjoyable..not so sure Sailor would agree, she'd have trouble with the boom and bangs..

Debbie sorry about problems with your neighbor, i'm sure you felt bad about making her cry. Know she deserved it because you aren't the type of person to yell without cause and hurt someone's feelings. Took a lot to get to that point. Kudo on the telephone, this new ones are so high tech.

Hmm as daylight approaches i see the trees blowing in the wind, feel of rain..is that good or bad?

Mary, difficult shopping for new vehicle, so many makes to test drive, options unbelievable. Greg and mel had an escapade and loved it! You still having issues with whooping cough, drats it's lingering.

Dianne, we are having an influx of raccoons and bears, guess there is little food in the forest! Such side effects these drugs have but the alternative of not taking the drugs is unbearable pain so no option there.

Enjoy your day, just looked at the clock and have a zillion things to do before 7am

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty - what can you possibly HAVE to do on a Sunday morning before 7am???
And yet, here I am - up with you!!! Norm will be leaving this afternoon around 2pm to drive to mid Maine-Waterville area. He will be gone at least three nights this week. We just found this out last night so today is "get all the travel stuff together" again. He hasn't had to do this for 2 1/2 yrs so the routine is a bit rusty!!! LOL And I have to get myself back into the self-sufficient mode too.
It has been wonderful having him here with me but he has spoiled me rotten and now I need to manage for myself again. Foolish things like going to the dump or doing the food shopping. I haven't had to do that for a while and now I need to learn to cook again too. He loves to cook and has been doing it all since he has been home. I offer but he says he wants to do it...Between us, I think it was a bit of a guilt complex because he wasn't working. He had very strong feelings about his "job" in a marriage. He feels it was his "Job" to provide and when he wasn't he felt bad about himself. I tried and tried to tell him it doesn't work that way, that it is an equal sharing of good times and bad and he would agree and then go be quiet off by himself somewhere. I wish you could have seen the way he smiled yesterday knowing he was going to work again. I don't think I realized how really important a job was to him. It's not all just the money. It's his self-esteem too and when I think of how long it's been, I'm so very proud of how he has handled himself. Enough of this drivel......I'm just happy I have him!!!
Yesterday, my friend Elaine came over and spent the day with me showing me how to do some different table runners. They are done with a 60* triangle ruler and it took quite a while for me to figure out how to do it. It involves mirror images and I was having a hard time grasping the concept. But I got it finally and will show a picture when I get the camera back. Brandon borrowed it to get horse pictures.
Brandon stayed over last night and is stirring so I'm off for a while. I'll catch up later.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Betty an Arkansan luncheon is where a group of us Arkansans get together and have lunch. It was wonderful, had a wonderful surprise by a couple of Mississippi gals and a Louisiana gal showing up unannounced! We were shocked that they would drive all that way just to see us!!! So we toured Charlotte's gardens, sat and chatted, did door prizes, sat and chatted, ate lunch, sat and chatted, then went to Gorman's to shop, I left the house at 9:15 and didn't get back home until 5:30, it was wonderful. I need more of those days away from home I think.

My mom has a 2010 Ford Escape, her second Escape and it's wonderful, I'm not a Ford fan but would definitely buy one if I had the need for it.

We got a good rain yesterday evening, it rained big big drops for about an hour, took awhile to get here though, we were under the lightening for a long time with no rain, but it finally rained!!

Dianne I am so sorry your DH is in soooo much pain, lots of hugs and prayers going out. I know how you feel about not ever being a grandparent, I'm going to miss it too but oh well, I like my freedom.

Barb I know just how you feel with the not cooking and being self efficient, I haven't had to do anything in 1 1/2 years, but I'm not that nice, I think he should be doing it since I get up and go to work everyday! LOL!!

Mary my Rose of Sharon isn't looking the best either this year, but is blooming, and mine has ants on it too, but it always has ants on it every summer, this is it's 3rd season. I'm just going to spray it with some Malathion when I spray again in a few weeks. I know nothing about potted plants, I just stick stuff in the ground and hope it grows LOL!!

I noticed this morning that my tea kettle is rusting where the spout is connected to the kettle part so I guess I need to get another one. The last one lasted 6 years, this one only lasted a couple of years. I'm going to look for a glass one that can go on the stove top, glass won't rust. I need to get outside too so I'll see y'all in a while!

mulege, Mexico

I'm up and barely awake. Just realized it's Sunday and Tony won't be coming to work. Checked my dragonfruit blossom and it's almost fully open.

Barb, sound like things are good with you, Unemployment is difficult, maybe more for men than women for the reasons you mentioned. How impressive that he did not take his frustration out on you.

Are you familiar with the quilting books of Bethany Reynolds? First was "Stack n Whack." She does a lot with repearting patterns and mirror images and such. Sound similar to what you are doing.

I've been doing a lot of clean-up work the last three days. Still not done but I may take a day off today.

I'll be back later. kb

Lexington Park, MD

Mary love the color of the cajun hibiscus.
I am looking into getting some passifloras. Still doing research as not many will winter well.
Betty hope you have a great time with Elvis. That is today?
Barb so nice to hear the excitement in your entry today.
Going to try and do some weeding this am before gets to hot.
To all have a great day.
Crissy sounds like fun to be had by all at the luncheon .

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Katie a day off does sound good! It's a good do nothing day around here.

With the rain we got yesterday evening it's very steamy outside, so I picked some tomatoes and cucumbers and came back inside, so glad I don't have to water!!!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm on break now from laundry and making sure Norm has all he needs. He is planning on coming back Thursday and will be going again next week too. No idea how long it will take to train him but he will be doing it in Maine.
It is a very comfortable 78* here now with very little humidity. I can actually go outside and still breathe. Most of you know I have COPD and the high humidity does me in quickly. So I'm a happy camper this morning. Don't know how long it will last but I'll take it while it's this nice.
With Norm gone this week, I hope to get a lot of catch-up sewing done. I hate to go to the machine when he is around. I feel like I should be with him. At least available should he like to go somewhere or do something. He's been terribly bored these last couple of weeks. That's probably not how he feels - it's more like "go away and do something so I can nap !" LOL
I'm really getting excited about our trip to Canada. It is getting close now. I've started putting things in one place that I want to take - thank heaven for an SUV!!!! If anyone has something for Betty and doesn't want to pay Canada postage, send it to me and I'll fit it in somewhere!!!!
Off to get dressed. Norm wants to go for a ride.. We do that quite often and will stop somewhere for a coffee or and ice cream. I'm going to miss that while he is gone.
~~~waving to all~~~and sending prayers to all in need.
Baton Rouge, LA
Hello To All !
Lazy day today... rib very sore so I'm not moving much. Thunderstorms rolled in and we lost electricity for a while but it's back now...
Oh Laura - bring that camper here.... Passifloras are taking over my back corner and I'm trying to pot them up for a swap...
Barb you sound SO happy ... it's infectious ! I like to pack that way too... just tuck a few things aside. helps to not forget anything... I know you'll miss Norm and your schedule will be off but I bet on some level you are both so excited about this new turn in your lives....will give him some change of scenery and you can get your sewing done without feeling like you are missing him....
Katie - can you send a pic of your dragon fruit ? never heard of one... Crissy - I will have to put malathion on my 'list'... nice to know everyone seems to like the "escape"... will have to test drive it... Boy that lunch sounds like fun... gonna have to check my mail to see who you met in Louisiana... so let me know if you haven't already LOL...I could have ridden with her...
Dianne - today is pretty peaceful so I'm gonna pretend we went on our walk together because that is how it feels when you describe it... LOL....I hope you guys have a pain free day... at least praying for it. I think you should 'adopt' some grandkids LOL...
I remember when a single mom,... DS was little ....3 or so... my grandparents had all passed and I had this thought to try to find some local folks to 'adopt'... they might not mind a visit and I would have loved an extra hand and some good advice...
I'll pop back in a bit...((HUGS))
Mary
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)
Mary, Cindy Riverland flew up from LA to MS and rode with the MS girls over here. She's having back/nerve problems and can't drive/ride in a car for very long at all. You really need to test drive an Escape, they're really cool! What a great idea, 'adopt' people!!
Lyndonville, NY
Our nursing homes here do that....they have "adopt a grandparent" weeks, and you come in and meet them. Usually at the beginning of school the Kindergarden & 1st graders do....go on a field trip....and the class adopts grandparents to make cards and such for through out the year. It really is nice.
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)
They do it here for kids too, they didn't do that when I was that age! LOL
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Mary, I hope you have been to a Dr. for a follow up on that cough, and for your ribs?
Baton Rouge, LA
Hello All !
Hey Linda :o)... yes unfortunately I've been 3 times... twice to the Dr. who diagnosed whooping cough (first one said it was allergies... that will be $152 please)... just finished second round of antibiotics. UGH ! Folks have told me it's the 100 day cough... and Dr. told me nothing can be done for cracked ribs...but that it is common with whooping cough. If I don't get better this week though I'll go back.... There's nothing they can do for cracked ribs... but it sure is painful.
good news it's been a lite day for the cough... my body knows that it's too painful LOL....
Your cassia still seems to be surviving ! Sure wish we coudl get the front yard bed made this weekend but too much rain. (I"M NOT complaining I promise !)
Have ya'll got some rain ? hope so....
Love the "Adopt a Grandparent" idea Crissy & Debbie !
I'll check back in a bit. DSD1 thinks she needs a going away party before college and that her friends should be allowed to bring alcohol.... and yelling at DH... of course they come in here and bother me to 'discuss'. Um... hello? I don't think so. Sure wish DH could act like a Father just once.
Mary
Lyndonville, NY
Mary, I don't know about your town....but at ours (and I am going thru this so I know) PARENTS of any MINOR or on ANY Premisis that is in charge of an under age party.....can go to jail...if ANY minor is caught with alcohol. AND...there is a current court case up here thats that exact thing. Kids brought liquor to party.....parents there to supervise....BUT the other kids parents pressed charges. Even though they took keys and everything at the door and kids were staying the night. SO...stick to your guns and be careful.
Mary, have you gone to a lung specialist? Pulmonary doc? Thats what you need. Seems something else could be going on, and they should do a blood panel to see what your "titer" is for Whooping cough. Did they put you on steroids?? Something isn't right!
Had a much cooler day here.....no A/C on at all. There is however WAY too much drama with the girls and Shane also has a friend over....they are watching Arthur...new one.
PT in the morning so won't be on til late.
Debbie
Baton Rouge, LA
Hey Deb... YES THANK YOU for backing me up. I believe drinking age is 21 in LA... and My thoughts are even if alcohol was involved in a party here.. and we DID NOT know... we would still be liable... I think...
Perhaps a good idea to google the laws. But sad to me that I feel I have to do this. When I was 18... or any age (even now)... if my Dad said "NO" that was enough. You did NOT question any more. why would Dh even bring her in to discuss ? theres NO discussion.
The second DR that diagnosed had blood work done... I registered a "7" or something where it should have been <2.5
I've had something of a relapse with my 100 day cough. Not whooping cough thank goodness. Not allergies either. Just a virus that won't die.
Tony's wife Fely stopped by for a visit this morning. A pleasant surprise. She speaks allmost no English but we managed a nice visit. I showed her the mango on the tree that we'd planted together and the flower on the dragonfruit. We looked at a lot of the other plants. She told me several times how much their three children like me. I've kind of adopted the whole family and vice versa. I an extra grandmother for them. And they are a family for me.
I went to town to get money, fresh orange juice and chicken legs for the dogs. I also got most of the backlog of dirty dishes washed. Haven't done much of anything else. Have that almost-sick thing going on. I've been in such a good mood for the last few days that I'm feeling quite grumpy about this setback.
We got a little thunder from Dora today but no rain. Got an email from my neighbor who is in Washington for the summer. I like her a lot BUT have also had some problems, mostly with her husband. I don't want to rock the boat but I'm quite annoyed with him. One more thing to feel grumpy about.
Tony will be back in the morning and I'll be all better.
Evening all, or is it morning yet..16 1/2 hrs. Makes for a long day! Highlight of thenday, seeing Chilean Miner #12 sing..he was terrific..entire day was wonderful..bit sunburnt but I'll live
Gab in a few hours
Baton Rouge, LA
Oh Betty How Wonderful ! I am so in awe of the ordeal they went through... I'd be crazy (er) for sure.... can't wait to see your pics... what "Elvis" has been up to. I've read a lot about him in the trivia book I'm reading. IE: His friends could not complain around him about ailments because he believed that he had "Healing powers" and they would have to have him 'lay hands' upon them and then pretend that they were "all better"... LOL.....another one... he once pulled a gun on James Dean when he met him.....
Katiebear... good to see you post too ! Here we are all talking about adopted grandparents and here you are one as well... so wonderful... I sure hope you don't have the whooping cough... it is (I believe ) a bacterial infection.... So wonderful that the family has adopted you ... and you ... them.... must be difficult when the neighbor you like is out of town and who knows what has been going on...
do the dogs eat chicken legs? that is a no-no here... but I'm here to learn....
Hugs,
Mary
Moning...blinking, it is monday right??
Grumbling, forgot to get the sealer from DH, so now re-seal has to wait til tomorrow, lol shucks.
Friday night we had some serious monsoons over here and again Saturday Morning!! So had another, waterfall down basement stairs and level was so high it knocked out the Water heater pilot light!! No hot water for an entire day and No A/C either, yuck...
But it's now all dried out and back in working order...Hoping washer/dryer is dried out, I need to wash towels.
Well, DH has been putting off his share of cleaning the basement...Hehehe, no choice. So he and the Boys did the basement clean while Alissa and i worked on upstairs... Was a good thing, I had a lot of things in plastic tubs or 5 gal buckets, everything else trashed, feeling bad for the garbage guys, they will be Busier then ever today!
Hoping to work outside today, weeds grew overnight with all the rains, But on good side, should come out fairly easy.
Well, my Boy is off to football camp! He'll be back on Wednesday, geesh missing him already...He's into wearing headbands lately, has a few and wanted more!
And, Tiff's ex and Our Anthony went to high school together...Small world. Anyway she is doing well, Started her family pretty young. She's 23 and has 2 Boys, 5&6. We met her 5 yr old, Anthony, what a cutie, and a chatterbox, lol...And oh gosh, Visiting, was so fantastic, it was as if never separated, those girls.
AND, another of "my" kids, introduced me to her friend as her second MOM, just tears me up...She is going to come back and visit again this weekend and We are hoping she will bring her Sister and mom. Her Mom, Jean and I were pretty inseparable ourselves, OH gosh, we had some pretty fantastic times...
Hi all just dropping in to let you all know that you aren't forgotten. Nothing much going on here other than regular summer fun. I am still working PT at Lowes garden center and will be there for a couple more weeks. Thought I would be finished the first week or so of July but they needed to keep me on and wanted me for as long as they could have me. I told them I would work the first two weeks of Aug but after that we will start traveling. The children and Grands are in and out all the time using the pool and yesterday we spent the morning at the river on my son's boat.
We still don't have the GH up yet, wanted to stain the concrete slab and that took a 30 day cure period. While we were waiting Ric took a tumble and dislocated his shoulder and cracked a couple of ribs so GH is on the back burner for a few more weeks. We have lots of heat here too. Takes a couple of hours to water the gardens everyday. Put up a new gazebo a couple of weeks ago the old one was getting pretty rough and we lost the top in a storm. Got a beautiful display model at work for a great price.
Just heard Ric up must go see how he is doing. But I will be back when I can. Miss everyone.
Well here I is, yikes I was tired, guess having fun does that to you!!! Going to go back and read, know I glanced at the posts last night but mind wasn't absorbing much of it...
I thought of you all yesterday, omg
One of the Elvis's sand an American Tribute song, turned his back showing the American Eagle on his cloak and the Canadian Flad fluttering in unison, then all singing we are one....
Victoria Harbour, ON
Had front row seats, could almost touch the Elvis's and I had a good mind to from time to time except I remembered it was a Gospel Brunch and one should do such a thing...
Now right beside our table waiting to come up and sing was this young man...we spoke for awhile and he was just too adorable
Now Jim Anderson, he has quite the story to be told, if anyone should believe in the Lord it's this guy...Jim lives just up the cover from where I lived on the lake..although I knew of him we had never met..
Fell off the roof, told he would be paralized for life, NOT, needed heart replacement, NOT
He gave a great sermon..songs were wonderful as well, few I had never heard..guess Elvis had a lot that were not released prior to his death but have been since.
tried downloading the video of the chilean miner..not sure how to do the clip onto dg..but I'll post a photo
Can't tell you I've never seen a crowd go so wild as when he sang...what a change in these Chilean miners lives..from quiet to fame, got to wonder how some mange with the changes..
We were sitting with all the Elvis's and Elvis's family while watching the show, not sure how that happened...but this young 7 years old sang his song and had to wait until 10:30 to see if he had won..he was ever so patient and enjoying..guess he was learning
Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Poor little fella came in 2nd, lost to a 5 year old..omg the 5 year old could show Elvis some moves, guess they are so limber at that age..lol
at the gospel breakfast the performers had the crowds just a hopping!
