Patio Drain

Anaheim, CA(Zone 10a)

Thanks. I really underestimated how long it would take to get to this point. But, we're getting there. She has narrowed it down to a few different options.
BUT...Sunday evening she was sitting on the patio watching the girls play in the backyard while I was sweeping up and she says, "You know what would be REALLY nice...? "If you could extend the patio out a little bit." (she wants to push it out to fill-in a 6' x 9' area) That's 54 sq. ft.! Do you know how many bags of concrete that is??? (sigh)
Of course, the grass struggles there (because there's a low point in that corner) and I've had a hard time keeping it looking like the rest of the yard anyways. So, it wouldn't be a BAD thing. Just don't tell HER that! I'll need to do that and possibly extend the block wall before I put on any stone.

I suppose we'll re-visit this conversation over dinner tonight, so I'll keep you posted and maybe post a picture or two of that area.

Thank Goodness you have a sturdy L'il Ranger for all that concrete...LOL Don't ya just hate it when an idea that means a ton of work is actually a good one?? An alternate might be decomposed granite which would allow water to permeate the area below. You could edge it with the same stone as the wall covering. I just have a thing about large expanses of concrete and the tendency to look "commercial", but you are talking about a relatively small area so that may not apply here.

Looking forward to your progress reports.

And how is the patio drain looking now.

The drains went well. However, I've been commissioned to build a playhouse for the girls, so my concentration has been focused there. I'll post some pictures once I get started if you're interested.

Glad to hear the project went well. Oh what fun...a playhouse. Surely you know we will need to see pictures, Mike....GRIN

Of course. It's a bit off-topic, but I'll continue to post. However, my 2-year old and wife are currently reviewing my drawings and are sure to request revisions! The 4 month old doesn't get a say in the matter, apparently.

I'll keep you posted.

The playhouse will become part of your landscape...sounds on topic to me....nothing like trying to keep the customer satisfied...grin
