Been outta pocket chauffering DH around.
Today I am thankful we did NOT go through with the 2000 Florida car purchase, as the 2001 similar Cadillac we purchased locally that was also pronounced "just wonderful and honky dory" has been found to have problems here and there. The radiator will be replaced on Monday, but glad that wasn't an issue when I would have been on the road in, let's see, somewhere in the middle of nowhere in West Texas in 100+ heat!
Katie - Isn't Mulege where they have the phosphorescent looking waves at night? Seems like that is where I saw them, when we camped on the beach many years ago.
After talking to my Dad, in Plano, I am thankful they had at least SOME rain so as to not have at dry conditions as some places. He did go out to golf this AM, early, after the cool low of 84 degrees! I am thankful their AC keeps working.
I am thankful for our last couple of cool days. Last week was 'normal' at 98-100 degrees and today was 79!
Today, I am thankful for...#6
Today, I am thankful for:
15 grain bread. Goooood toast.
Smoke detectors.
Only six more weeks to September (it's 97 degrees at 9:10 this evening).
Hi, quilty. Glad to see you. :-)
I don't know about the waves at night. I'm usually in bed and don't remember from when I camped on the beach many years ago.
Today I am thankful that it is slightly cooler and less humid.
Thankful for about twelve hours of sleep last night.
Thankful that I found the packet of goldenberry seeds that went missing about six weeks ago. Amazing what a little housecleaning turns up.
hugs, katie
Today, I am thankful
...that the National Weather Service's thermometer at DFW was "jiggled" yesterday and the high was NOT 107, it was only 105. Don't know why that difference is comforting, but it is...
...that the boss' daughter's Jetta A/C was fixed before we swapped cars for the weekend (Dallas to Austin round trip is much better in a 45+ MPG Prius :-)...
...that my current daylily obsession is as easily satisfied with a $1.00 plant as it is with a $30.00 plant--soooooo many splendid specimens from which to choose... [drool, sigh, slobber] LOL
ooooh! those are niiice, thank you. :-D
Those are beautiful, Kwanjin. I do not have any day lilies, but love the varieties that are available. The plain yellowgold ones you see in masses outside stores and such are rather boring. I understand that they are hardy, as my sister who does not garden grows them in the Dallas area.
Yep, Stella De Oro. Commercial landscapers went nuts with them all over the area some years back. And they cascaded to residential yards. The thing about Stellas, though, is they bloom all summer and you just about can't kill 'em. :-)

Today, I am thankful for:
Eli Wallach
Folk art
The progression of seasons.
I echo Kwanjin's earlier post. Today, I am thankful for Ranier Cherries. Delicious!
I am also thankful my husband's growing addiction is to something as benign (and as beautiful) as daylilies. :-)
Kay, add sometimes fragrant to those daylilies. :-)

Today, I am thankful for:
Maple Bacon Cupcakes. Oh, yes I did!!
http://www.sayitwithsugar.com/AboutUs.html
The visit of my friend and travel companion, Shelley. Coming from New Jersey, our early 100 degree temps have been a shock, but she is adjusting...LOL
Water. Once again. (Pray for rain.)
Today, it's Janis Joplin and wild Summer storms.
Hold on, Hold on, Take another little bit of my heart....
Goes well with summer storms, for those of you that have those storms.
Joplin and summer storms does sound like a poetically perfect combination.
Just listening to the temps on a U.S. weather map,, CA sounds like the place to be right now.
Today, I am thankful for the freedom to take a day off when I feel like I need one. k*
Today, I am thankful to have no crises, emergencies, whining, 'where's the key,' somebody-ticked-off-the-boss phone calls today while seeing my friend off back home to New Jersey.
I am thankful my dogs were well-behaved--for them--while she was here.
I am thankful for nail sets.
Glad your dogs behaved but sorry for you your friend had to leave.
Today, I am thankful for Mexican chicken salads and re-blooming Columbine.
Today I am grateful that the electricity is back on.
I'm grateful that I can be tired and a bit sad and know it's not the end of the world.
Today I'm grateful that I don't have anyone in my life who ridicules me or tells me I'm stupid.
Grateful that it's good weather for lots of plants.
kb
I'm thankful for cool bright moonlit nights.
Thankful for tomato sandwiches and potato chips.Vanilla icecream cones.
Am thankful for the space program we've had. I remember the bitter pride when the Russian Sputnik was launched than the glorius pride when we took over the space race.Than had to shed a few tears for the last launch for us.Maybe the next generation will be wiser.Thankful the space program gave us Tang.
Today I am grateful for having gotten some sleep. For air conditioning. For blue skies. For my dogs.
kb
Ohhhh....I would love to get some good nights sleep. I haven't had one in awhile.
I was waxing philosophical here and ended up writing much more than my usual, so I put it in an independent thread.

Today, I am thankful for:
Language.
Blue Bell Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Bars.
Roses.
Wow. I am thankful I 'know' someone like Deb.
I am grateful for another good night's sleep. I'm feeling so much better.
Thankful that I finally have the energy to make serious inroads on the last of several messes left by a former friend that I invited to live with me and that turned into a disaster. Another cheer for Tony please; he has saved me from doing this again without thorough investagation.
Thankful for slightly weather.
Hopeful that hurricane Dora will bring us some gentle rain and not swing inland and hit us with her full force.
Thankful for friends here at DG and elsewhere.
katie
Slightly cooler weather. I forgot a word. kb
KB, what's the weather like for you there? Other than the hurricane?
Three cheers to Tony!!!
Temperature is 90 F. So it's hot but not like they are getting across the States. It's overcast (unusual) and a little muggy. Pretty good for this time of year.
katie
Okay, I now have my Tang education thanks to Vickie and Google. My gereration probably tends more to think talking monkeys, not astronauts, when they think of Tang. The monkeys were their advertising spokespersons(?) when I was little. I haven't noticed it in the stores lately. Is it still around?
Kb, I'm glad you got your electricity back so fast. Low 90's is still way too hot to be without electric fans or AC.
Today, I am thankful for a librarian with a sense of humor and The Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center. They have list of recommended native plants for every state, not just Texas. Way cool! ~N~
Cando, I'm thankful for wonderful , beautiful earth angles like YOU ! Made it to Tex and my sons last night. My tard's draggin.
Sally, glad you made it home. Vickie seems to be having a good time with her new baby. :-)
Today, I am thankful for...
...what seems to be a better tolerance for heat. Or at least more numbness so I don't feel it as much? LOL
...a problem employee who managed to quit about a week before I would have no choice but to fire him.
...having the luxury of sleeping late tomorrow if I want. :-)
I hope to spend some time with her someday , maybe we can make a party out of it . Wouldn't be a party without you too .
Welcome back Sally, Scoot is sound asleep behind my chair. All babies seem wore out this morning.Everybody was chasing everybody all thru the house last night. I cannot decide if Scoot or the cats are the agressors.Kinda think they take turns.
I now know what you mean about Scoot being abused. When i get enough of everyone acting up,I roll up a newspaper and smack it in my hands.(They hate the noise.) Scoot took one look at me and slunk behind a chair totally cowed. I spent the rest of the evening with him in my lap.I hope he will realize i will never hit him.I would like to kick whoever beat that puppy.
He is a delight. He and Dillen make a good barking team.Cricket allows him to rub noses with her.The queen has given acceptance!!!LOL
Did you have fun?
I am very thankful for my 4legged family.
Would'nt it be great if we could have a plant swap(even without the plants)
Debra,The disaperence (SP) of your employee calls for one of my favorite expressions "God is good" The tolerance for heat has not improved here.I'm hypernating.
As soon as you drove off , we missed him. I only picked up a fly swatter and he setteled down , no noise .He likes to go for a walk on leash. When he sees you coming with it , he gets real happy , and only have to walk him around the yard a bit . Try it , he loves it.
good to be back with the family for a few days , beats freezing to death .Hugs , Sally
Nadine, Tang is still around, although I do not see it advertised. I have found it near the Crystal Light and Kool Aid. I even bought some (although, years ago when the 'monkeys' drank it, I don't think I liked it. I saw it recommended to keep as a 'storage food' item because of it's shelf life and because it has a good amount of Vitamin C. I am guessing if you have to put a bit of bleach in your storage water, it would disguise the taste of that. Side Story: Years ago a man I had worked with for years retired to achieve his retirement dream of sailing across the Pacific in his 36' sailboat. For years he had treat us to sails around the Long Beach, CA area and across to Catalina. First he sailed down the Pacific Coast before going across to his ultimate destination, New Caledonia where his son and new family were living. He invited me to spend a week with his family on the boat in and around Puerta Vallarta. The first time I was thirsty I was asked "do you want beer, soda (very sweet Mexican soda), bleach tasting Lemonade, bleach tasting OJ or just plain beach tasting water?" Yuck. Turns out as they were sailing, when they would stop along the coast they would fill their holding tank whereever they could, then throw a bottle (or less) of bleach in to kill the parasites! Margaritas in town were a great option.
Today I am thankful that the 1994 truck we have given DD to drive is almost finished being painted and upholstered. We had that truck since it was new, but it had really become an eyesore! I think it was considered the ugliest thing in student parking last year, her senior year. Said she did not need to lock it as no one would figure there was anything of value in it!
Wow! I'd be very happy to have that truck.
Today, I am thankful that...
My sister generously picked up and delivered my prescriptions so I didn't have to get out in the heat.
A daylily I've been drooling after, but deemed too expensive, was found on sale AND buy-one-get-one. Oh, frabjous day!
The local Domino's stopped overbaking their thin crust pizza. No burned crust! Yea! :-D
Today, I am thankful for:
The breeze that-finally-came through this afternoon. After having worked outside for 90 minutes with mostly still air, it let me slog through 10 more minutes to finish the immediate planting. Whew, done!
Fresh squeezed orange juice
Miss Elizabeth Taylor
Oh, Liz....we do dearly miss you.
Today, I am thankful for digital cameras(again), cream cheese frosting and Edward James Olmos.(He made a most excellent Admiral Adama.)
