Sometimes, all it takes to help us through a rough day is to remember small gratitudes. The thread is to talk about anything for which we are thankful that day, be it big, small, or anywhere in between.
Today, I am thankful for...#6
It's the obvious thing I'm thankful for today. The fact that our forefathers...and foremothers...had a dream and did the hard things to bring it closer to a reality. I feel fortunate that dream is my inheritance. (Jim).
Amen.
Today, I am thankful for neighbors who ran out of fireworks $$$ early. And homemade custard.

Today, I am thankful for the surprises newly opened in my yard every morning. Walking around, clippers in hand, before getting in the car is a soothing near-meditation to start another working day.
Thankful for bagged ice.
and Lilies.
And bungee cords.
Today, it's
Guacamole
Savory crackers
Star Trek: The Search for Spock
Today, I am thankful for thumping car stereos as they faaaaaaaade into the distance...
Today, I am thankful for cooler weather. It's overcast and only 77º rather than the 102º we had on Sunday.
lol, i'm with you, kwan.
I see it's been hot over most of the country. Nice to have a cooler day.
No end in sight for us, only hope it doesn't turn out to be one of those summers like 1980. Ack!! But I am happy for those who have the more bearable temps. :-) I can sit in front of a fan and enjoy vicariously.
Today, I am thankful for:
Having ceiling fans in every room of my house (except the bano).
Batteries
Sharp scissors
Is it my imagination, or has the format changed again?
Another thing to be thankful for. They went back to the old format.
Today I am also grateful for twelve hours of sleep.
The safe return of Rosie the dog who ran away two days ago.
katie
Katie, so glad for you! It's awful when the 'kids' are missing.
Today, I am thankful for sheer curtains, CDs(both kinds) and 24 hour convenience stores.
Today, I am thankful for surprise packages that come from friends! Thank you, Deb!!!!!!! I forgot all about this!
....that the temp is 95, instead of the 105 predicted for today!
....that there are plants still blooming and thriving despite everthing the weather has thrown at them.
....that my DW is in a good mood. :-) (Jim)
you are welcome, kwan.
woo-hoo, jim! that's great...'cause, it IS 105, here. :-D i have a bad feeling about the next six weeks. hope i will be able to give thanks then because i am wrong!
Today, I am thankful for the decent TV on schedule for tomorrow afternoon into evening. (The Pacifier, Red River, The Bone Collector, all four Indiana Jones, Fail-Safe, Rangers and Cubs baseball, and Dogs 101 marathon. It's gonna be reeeeeeeaallll hot again tomorrow, safest thing to do is stay inside. So I'm not going to be a sofa spud, noooooooo. I am taking care of my health and well-BEing!! :-) And I have spare AAs in case the ones in the remote give out.
I am thankful for enough milk and strawberry ice cream left to make a small shake.
I am exceedingly thankful for considerate mail-order plant vendors.
I am thankful for luncheon meats, soups meant to be eaten cold, fruits, salads and all the other foods that make it possible to have nutritious things to eat without turning on the stove or oven. k*
Oh boy, is that ever true!
Ayup. And small toaster ovens for what HAS to be heated, but won't heat the whole kitchen
===========================================
Today, I am thankful for:
Betty Ford
The U.S. Space Program
The spontaneous and generous community support for the family of Shannon Stone: husband, father, firefighter.
Isn't he the baseball fan who fell? What a sad thing...
Today, I am thankful for cooling rain that deeply watered everything. And trowels, weed killer and...something else I can't remember right now. LOL I'll think of what ot is after I hit "SEND."
Yes. Those of us who follow have followed the Rangers for some time feel as if we are almost family. The team is accessible and comfortable and it's easy to become attached on a personal level. Which makes the horrible nature of this accident even more magnified because so many of us feel as if it were our own friend or neighbor who died. And because the player is our cousin or brother who is also hurting. I have railed against the intense, almost obsessive focus on sports in Texas, particularly with high school football. But there is no better group of people to call on in a crisis, no matter the sport, than the fans in North Central Texas.
Duh, my wife didn't log out and I didn't catch it before hitting "Send".

Ah-h-h, that's better.
Very busy week. Barely had an opportunity to skim the headlines. I do remember seeing one saying "Former First Lady dies at 80-something or 90-something. I assume that was Betty Ford?
I'm thankful for Gloria Cole's article today. I've been trying more than a year to ID a plant my wife just calls a 'Florida Easter lily." I know now it is some sort of Crinum. I may never know what kind it is. There are over 50 species and I haven't even looked at all the cultivars. But, I'm sure it's a crinum.
When I realized I'd forgotten to get Kay a wedding bouquet to carry for our wedding ceremony, I snagged an appropriate looking flower from the garden and wrapped it in a lace handkerchief.that I borrowed. That flower sort of has sentimental value. I'm glad to have a better idea of what it really is. Although, not knowing its botanical name certainly hasn't kept it from thriving. It had to be blooming in late Oct. That's when we were married. I haven't the foggiest idea why the local common name is Easter lily. It isn't even in the lilium family where I was searching for it. I need to find a better approach to ID-ing plants. . Waving at you, Carrie. SOMEONE could suggest that as a subject for a future article. (Jim)
The crinum lily Jim referred to does bloom around Easter…in south Florida. :-) Here, It blooms in June and, sometimes, again in Oct. It is a very old southern passalong.
I’m thankful for microwave ovens. Along with toaster ovens, they make high summer more bearable in the kitchen. It only reached 92 today, but humidity is at 79%. It may be the dog days of summer elsewhere. Here, it feels more like the frog days of summer. :-) )
I'm logging out, Jim. lol. k*
Today, I am thankful for:
Flower vendors who give one-for-one bonuses.
Reasonably priced house cleaners. (Thank you, Hilda!)
Gmail
Today, I'm thankful for Ranier cherries. Mmm...
Today,
I am thankful for water. Plentiful, beautiful, cool, clear water. Robin, we are mowing (that's Nadine :-) and dancing and praying and doing our best to induce rain for you. [hug]
(Just heard on the news 2,000 pounds of ice were poured in the wave pool at the water park in Arlington today to cool down the water. I guess it's hot, here. LOL)
I am thankful for Robert Preston, especially his performances in Music Man, Victor/Victoria, S.O.B., and Last Starfighter.
I am thankful for the parents I was given. VERY far from perfect, now days certainly would be under the eye of state CPS, and I often wished for someone else--ANYONE else--to be Mom and Dad. But, I would be a very different person had there been a different family and a different upbringing. I like me most of the time and "me" is, in large measure, a result of what was learned in living through and past my experiences with them. Feeling philosophical tonight, can you tell? [grin]
Debra, MK says much the same thing. She says, "I wouldn't wish it on anyone else, but I'm glad I went through it because it got me where I am now. "
Today, I am thankful for nature’s odd little twist. We thought we had lost all our shampoo gingers to unusually long winter freezes, but the excessive rain has reached rhizones that were so deeply buried they escaped the winter kill and stirred the roots to life. The ginger has returned.
My first idea for getting it to rain in Kansas was to mow while singing the Kansas state song. But, I noticed tucked in among lines about roaming buffaloes, antelope playing and no discouraging words, there was the one that goes “where the sky is not cloudy all day.” That didn’t seem like a good one for the job.
Then, I remember seeing music by a band called Kansas in MK’s collection. When I asked Mama Kay to sing me something by Kansas, she sang a haunting song called “Dust in the Wind”. Beautiful song, but totally inappropriate for my purposes.
I will be happy to do my “I can’t mow today. It’s raining” spell for the people of Kansas as soon as I come up with a song that will make sure the rain falls in Kansas. If I’m seen starting the mower and it rains more HERE, I will be in serious trouble. Some blame me for yesterday’s downpour and it wasn’t even my turn to mow. It is like living in a sauna at the moment. The natives are uncomfortable and could turn hostile at the slightest provocation.. ;-) ~Nadine~
Nadine, we just need to fly you to Robin's place in Kansas and let ya fire up HER mower!
The moon is bright enough to garden by...too bad the temp is still 95 at 10:00PM. Soooo.....
Today, I am thankful for CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING!
I am thankful that, if you keep the newspaper wrappings continuously damp, bareroot daylilies will exist quite happily standing outside in their open shipping box until beds are ready for them. :-D
I am thankful the friend coming to visit for a couple of days next week is not a go-go-go, gotta see it all, kind of woman.
that is a delightful photograph. thank you for posting it. :-)
You're very welcome. It made me smile when I saw them so I just had to share.
Oh! And today, I'm thankful for Mozart.
Beautiful photograph.
Today I am grateful for airconditoning. And, as always, Tony who comes to work calm and cheerful and commiserates when I've hardly slept. And he appreciates me almost as much as i appreciate him. We both are grateful for the gallon of fresh orange juice I got in town from my friend Manual (another person I'm grateful for) yesterday.
I'm grateful the errands are done and I don't have to leave home for a few days.
Grateful for the beautiful place where I live. It is so hot and humid that I start feeling like I need gills. Then I walk outside and there are the River Mulege and the Sea of Cortez coming together both a clear dark blue and the sky is a clear lighter blue and I ask my lungs to settle down and let my eyes bask for a while.
katie
lovely description, katie. :-) can "see" why you like living there.
